The line around the outside is three or two rail of my own design. Nothing very complex but mostly Atlas with some Peco cut up and a few half sleepers holding the third rail in place on cork. It allows me to run the few two rail items I own. Friends can also use it. I had a friend's son running Union Pacific shunters on it the other day. Dublo 3 rail runs almost silently on it. Two switches determine whether two or three rail power runs through it and it has a separate controller. My one regret is incorporating Dublo two rail points which are frankly a pain.
@@thedublorailway3803 : another useful insight to know. Here in the UK , Trix track has been used , but difficult to acquire in good condition. especially the later plastic sleeper versions which allow multiple stock to run with success.

Why
To be equally direct. Why not?. Sick of seeing it all going in one direction.
Because it's old school, doesn't look realistic enough, and the buildings look derelict, but each to their own
