- A bit of 8f running over a couple of days. Watch for that dreaded front bogie refusing to take a set of points. I left it in given that I'd mentioned it. The pulling power of these engines is really impressive.
I have a 2-rail version which I love. But I’m building a 3-rail layout at the moment, an 8F is next on my shopping list ! Though they do seem to be getting a bit pricey in the UK.
I just picked one up in New Zealand for NZD125, about 60GBP. I think it's a bargain. I agree that things are getting tight. The 2 rail ones are plentiful and easy to convert
I seem to remember reading somewhere that their top speed was supposed to be 40mph only, officially !
Certainly all mine which are early versions do not run very quickly. This seems to be a function of the gearing and may have been to mirror reality or just a happy accident. I need to get my hands on a ring field motored version before I pass final judgement. For a bit of fun I occasionally have them haul passenger trains. The other thing I notice is their dislike of standard radius curves.

Pleased you enjoyed it.
what happened eastbound at 9:49 ?
Ha! The dreaded front bogie. I left the derailment in. The points were set straight but this locomotive has a wandering front bogie, any bogie. I've tried swapping and as it seems not to like going forward for long periods of time I run it tender first mostly, with a 4MT bogie and coupling. This is Australia and we are downside up. It was heading due south.
@@thedublorailway3803try putting a weight on the front bogie it does help.
@@thedublorailway3803Try adding weight on your bogie it does help plus good clean up and check wheels are not warped.
