I always liked this version of Clark Kent more than any other because it's not about the looks, it's about the personality. Clark wants nobody to know that he's Superman but wants to live his life as a regular person. So instead of altering his look, he creates a personality that's so opposite of his real self (aka Superman) that no one would ever think for one moment that Clark Kent is the Man of Steel. The glasses are just icing on the cake.
i always though it was rather the opposite, that he took care to make superman too perfect and two-dimensional to be corn-fed midwestern farmboy clark kent
I also think that is his personality Because he does say witty things as Clark when talking to Lois Etc. Plus he has been on earth since a baby. Nerves are natural but thrown out the window as superman.
When you really think about it, Superman’s ability to play the part of a klutz really shows his sense of humor. LOL. He’s fully aware that he’s making a fool of himself while intentionally using his antics as Clark to divert any suspicion of his true identity.
Polity is not the best; it's like niceness. You can be polite while firing someone without good cause to make the others do more work while you pocket the check.
Also, Christopher Reeve is the ground control voice with a Southern twang, as he was a licensed commercial pilot and professional hang glider! " _Ah, Daily Planet 'copter One; this is ground... Alright, we have Miss Lane for a ride to Metropolis Airport to meet Air Force One. It's an early flight... Ah, Roger, Planet One. You're cleared. Wind, zero-two-zero at fifteen, gusting. Altimeter two-niner-eight-niner_ ."
"Can I give you a lift to the airport?" "Not unless you can fly." Said it before and I'll say it again. Despite maybe a handful of very minor flaws this movie and the performances contain within are an absolute work of art.
Im from NYC...The helicopter crash scene was taken place at the old Daily Newspaper Building (Aka Daily Planet Building) located at 220 East 42nd St.(between 2nd & 3rd Avenue)..everything is there as it were in the movie.. even the Superman movie props in the lobby are still there..you can go inside the lobby..its free..and take pictures..So if you in NYC.. stop by...
I love this idea that he acts perfectly normal as a superhero, but is clumsy as a normal man, not knowing how to act. Like, I’ve always wondered whenever he bumps into someone or something, if they would feel the impact being harder than a normal person impact, given that Clark’s body is hard (no dirty joke intended) and invulnerable. And if he hits something like a door, it would get damaged as well, whereas it would not if a normal person hit it
Part of how he's able to do the role as the foppish Clark Kent, is that he incorporates his powers in a different way. For example, whenever he bumps into someone. He uses his super speed and senses to anticipate any oncoming person that would bump into them. While he can't feel pain, he can feel touch and vibrations, so that if someone touches him, he can push himself back so to lessen the impact of the hit so they wouldn't know they're hitting a man of steel. In the case of doors, same thing only he can stop a door from hitting him hard enough to shatter.
Exactly he cushions his impact and has stated multiple times in other media that he is careful to hold back his real strength/power. He's always walking on eggshells.
There actually is a scene in the movie where Lois squeezes in front of Clark, while at the office, and then immediately turns around and gives him a look of surprise. (speaking of 'hard'). I had never noticed it myself until I watched the special features and it was pointed out by the director, who claimed that in Europe they all caught the joke, but in USA they missed it.
@@Strawbb111 I don't see the director commentary on youtube, I know it from the DVD special features. But the actual scene itself is in the movie, about 52 minutes in, at the first meeting with Clark. Lois shows him to his desk and he scoots behind her for a sec. Hope that helps!
Hey a bit late, but as a an extra, I think the reason he did that was to make sure he didn't walked into the camera operator. That happens a lot where they want us to walk towards camera, but it's very difficult to walk around on set when there are light stands and wires every where, but yes great observation.
the shots in the dark of the chopper flying towards the top of the skyscraper looked great on film on the big screen. Helps build up a sense of reality, which heightens the danger.
I love it. This is what Snyder doesn’t get about the character. When Kal-El is Superman, he’s the ultimate American Boy Scout. When he’s Clark Kent, he’s the ultimate geek. He’s not supposed to be nihilist and angtsy. Those are some of Batman’s character traits.
ForceMaximus84 Actually Mr. Donner voiced the pilot who was during and after the crash played by Mr. Colin Skeaping. Chris Reeve voiced the other guy,the Controller.

Something that puzzles me about this scene. OK, I don't know much about flying a helicopter, but shouldn't an experienced pilot immediately landed on realizing their problem? Or could he not land it? He looks like he's fighting to take off in spite of the cable trapping the helicopter.
The Bill quote from Kill Bill 2 on why Superman was the best hero - because he really was a superhero and his alter-ego was Clark Kent, always reminds me of this scene.
