As someone who used to have an 11-year-old account with Blizzard, I swear wow players have amnesia. They'll release an expansion and players will immediately love it, and then they'll finish the base content in a week or two and learn they aren't getting a content patch until a few months later - which makes them say "this expansion sucks" until the next expansion comes out. Rinse and repeat.

My PC broke before the release and it took an entire year before I got a new one, and I'm actually glad that it happened. My old PC would barely be able to run it while the new one runs it on Ultra at solid 60 FPS in FHD. Also most of the flaws the game had at launch were fixed- the bugs, inventory management, etc. I fell in LOVE with that game. I was playing it 3-4 hours a day, every day of the week, for two entire months. I was a full-on Witcher JUNKIE. And despite everything, I don't consider that time to be wasted.

I can't really blame people as much, honestly. You have to imagine the millions of developers who don't even have teams to help them convince investors with boatloads of cash to realize their vision. At the end of the day, developers are artists, and businessmen are looking at their art with a "why should I even give you this money?" look. These hype trains look incredible to higher ups, and investors. Even when you're not confident in your product, the hype around it will make sure you don't have your investors pull out. Some people go overboard, sure, but it's not reacting to something imaginary- It's given to them. Great video btw!
So I paused on the charts and discovered I never played a good chunk of these well hyped games or I played them at a much later time. I think I played and enjoyed like 10 total games in all the charts combined and I now realize why I'll still get hyped for things. I laser focus on what I like and because of that I haven't been burned a lot. I have been burned (Stickerstar...), but not nearly as much as I have been pleased with the games I was hyped for. Maybe I'm just really good at knowing what I would enjoy or I'm super lucky.

I had all the nintendo consoles until the wii, then bought a ps3 from a friend that was moving away to help him out, I played 3 games on it, one being a ps2 game and realized I actually didn’t like video games at all. I’m still reading and writing articles about GPUs and hyped games and ray tracing cores and shit but I honestly don’t give a shit about playing a game. I realized I only cared about the community and having friends to talk about the things I liked and have been playing physical games (role playing and trading cards) since and this year have been brutal. First it took me 10 years to realize I hated games but took me 6 months to realize I just wanted people around.
I feel like the whole world atm is hyped to Cyberpunk in a way im really not. Maybe it because of the delays, lack of showing non-scripted content during the latter part of the year, restriction for reviewers or that im just getting old. The old classical signs that something isnt really as it should be. So the hype just isnt much there
That's how i am. If i hear some news about a gameplay feature, i'll anticipate a bit, but unless it's something like Spiderman or Tsushima, where i know my bias or hype will carry me through, i generally just wait preferably until significant patches ora major discount. Didn't buy first two Watch Dogs till a year after they came out when they were practically free and enjoyed both thoroughly.

Generally I try to avoid reading or watching too much about overhyped games so that when I do end up buying them I end up enjoying them a lot more for what the game actually is rather than what they were expected to be. That has served me well since Spore. I occasionally get caught up in the hype around games, like I did this year for Crusader Kings 3, but that company was really transparent about what they were doing so it felt safer to do so for lack of a better word.

I was never hyped for cyberpunk 2077 because it didn't tell me the story or why I should be playing or if it was like Grand theft Auto or something else. The disappointment everyone had was what I was originally expecting out of the game because of all that.

I can't really blame people as much, honestly. You have to imagine the millions of developers who don't even have teams to help them convince investors with boatloads of cash to realize their vision. At the end of the day, developers are artists, and businessmen are looking at their art with a "why should I even give you this money?" look. These hype trains look incredible to higher ups, and investors. Even when you're not confident in your product, the hype around it will make sure you don't have your investors pull out. Some people go overboard, sure, but it's not reacting to something imaginary- It's given to them. Great video btw!

So I paused on the charts and discovered I never played a good chunk of these well hyped games or I played them at a much later time. I think I played and enjoyed like 10 total games in all the charts combined and I now realize why I'll still get hyped for things. I laser focus on what I like and because of that I haven't been burned a lot. I have been burned (Stickerstar...), but not nearly as much as I have been pleased with the games I was hyped for. Maybe I'm just really good at knowing what I would enjoy or I'm super lucky.

I had all the nintendo consoles until the wii, then bought a ps3 from a friend that was moving away to help him out, I played 3 games on it, one being a ps2 game and realized I actually didn’t like video games at all. I’m still reading and writing articles about GPUs and hyped games and ray tracing cores and shit but I honestly don’t give a shit about playing a game.
I realized I only cared about the community and having friends to talk about the things I liked and have been playing physical games (role playing and trading cards) since and this year have been brutal. First it took me 10 years to realize I hated games but took me 6 months to realize I just wanted people around.
Hype or no, I still want Half-Life 3 and Quake 5.
I feel like the whole world atm is hyped to Cyberpunk in a way im really not. Maybe it because of the delays, lack of showing non-scripted content during the latter part of the year, restriction for reviewers or that im just getting old. The old classical signs that something isnt really as it should be. So the hype just isnt much there
That's how i am. If i hear some news about a gameplay feature, i'll anticipate a bit, but unless it's something like Spiderman or Tsushima, where i know my bias or hype will carry me through, i generally just wait preferably until significant patches ora major discount. Didn't buy first two Watch Dogs till a year after they came out when they were practically free and enjoyed both thoroughly.

it usually takes a month or 2 after a huge game release for reasonable reviews and criticisms to come in for it. The first month or so is always full of people going batshit crazy and saying exaggerated things about the game, whether its good or bad

Generally I try to avoid reading or watching too much about overhyped games so that when I do end up buying them I end up enjoying them a lot more for what the game actually is rather than what they were expected to be. That has served me well since Spore. I occasionally get caught up in the hype around games, like I did this year for Crusader Kings 3, but that company was really transparent about what they were doing so it felt safer to do so for lack of a better word.

@@spessman9070 after over 40 hours with the game, I actually agree with you. The game is ok at best even if some parts of it are great. Most of the time the game is actually bad.
@@idokoren4333 I'm sure as time passes they will start fixing bugs and making what truly shines in the environment and gameplay the spotlight rather than the bugs. It might go the route of no man's sky and completely redeem itself after botched launch

i can very much corroborate the opposite is true. i've had a few games that i've played with no prior expectations and was still letdown by the experience and waste of time.

I was never hyped for cyberpunk 2077 because it didn't tell me the story or why I should be playing or if it was like Grand theft Auto or something else.
The disappointment everyone had was what I was originally expecting out of the game because of all that.

In regards to Cyberpunk 2077, i'm a little over 10 hours in PS4 Pro I literally have almost ZERO issues people are complaining about besides minor bugs like a floating stop sign and crashing after a few hours but even that isn't that frequently
I can only imagine this is people on the original PS4 trying to play a semi-pre next gen game on years old base model consoles
Seeing this "ItZ liTeRalLy uNplAyAblE oN Ps4" in the title while I'm playing it right now and its been almost perfectly fine is pretty surreal
