  • It's never easy having conversations with families, telling them you've done all you could to help them find their missing loved ones, knowing they're underwater nearby.
It's been said that if you miss them by a few inches, you might as well have missed them by miles.
Our search for Jose takes place 6-days after he drowned in the Sandy River just outside of Troutdale, Oregon.
That same week, a total of 7 drownings took place in lakes and rivers throughout Oregon.
With murky waters and hidden cave systems, it made our search very difficult in our hopes of finding and bringing Jose home to his family.
This documentary provides a glimpse of the sonar search techniques and diving Adventures With Purpose brings to the waters in hopes of helping families find their lost loved ones.
Hug the ones you love for you never know when it might be the last time you see them.
The AWP Movement would not be possible without your support, helping us travel the US offering our services for FREE to families searching for their lost loved ones... Thank you!
We'll be hitting the road on Sept 17th for a 44-day cross-country road trip, working 27 Cold Cases, searching for 36 missing people.

We need prayers for a diver that is missing off coast of Daytona. CG and Volusia S.O. searched for a Daytona Beach diver who submerged Friday in the Atlantic Ocean and has not been since was suspended Monday night.
Diver, Jim Evans, never surfaced while diving off Volusia County.

@@jbrobertson6052 I agree. While I understand the need to have some membership-exclusive perks, either have some videos that are released directly to the viewership at-large or shorten the time for videos to be member-only. It really sucks when I hear in a video that certain things will be coming out in a video "in a couple of weeks" and then it turns into a month or more because membership hogs the videos for 2 weeks.

We just had a 13 year old boy who went missing in February. They found his body last week in a pond by his house. There were divers that found his body. I thought of you guys when I heard that. That family got closure to where their loved one was at. I have respect for you guys and all other divers that find loved ones.

I'm a native Oregonian, I can't agree more with what Jared said. Rivers are not pools, you need a life preserver if you go into a river, especially with rivers here in Oregon. Your children need flotation devices even if they're only playing on the banks. The river beds are typically flat, the current literally rolls like a sideways tornado and there are submerged logs that will grab hold of you. The water will also hold you under, and without a flotation device, you cannot out swim the current, simple as that. Even what looks like a shallow slow moving river will take hold of you, not let you go, and will kill you in an instant. We see it every year.

And if your family decides to take a day trip N to Washington, or rivers are exactly the same, especially since the Columbia River flows S into Oregon. Please keep your families safe.

I don't know why you specify, "especially with rivers here in Oregon", when the rivers in Oregon don't even hit in the top 12 worst in the US. I was born in Lane Co and grew up, in part, in Oregon as well. I have boated and fished rivers in a few states and had anyone asked I would say Oregon rivers, are safe as rivers go. IMO all children should always wear lifejackets and in pools foating devices. Anyone on or in the river should wear a lifejacket and on the ocean if you're an adult it depends on waves and your speed. Since the "especially ...Oregon rivers" part just grabbed my attention. usabynumbers.com/most-dangerous-rivers-in-the-us/

I'm from Colorado and have rafted many times, Westwater, Arkansa, Kern in California. Love it. Respect that river and keep eyes on everyone.
Had to rescue people out of three feet of water that said they didn't need a life jacket because they were just walking the edge. I gauntey they will never go in the water without life jacket.

I don't think you and your team's realize the positive influence that ya'll have on other's. You are doing God's will in bringing closure to so very many families! And not just the one's that your team finds but how many other's are so very inspired to go out and search for other lost loved one's. I don't think you even realize how many you have inspired to go out and search for lost loved one's! How many police department's have been able to use your team's as an example to build and justify the expense of establishing dive team's that can go seek those that are lost. I really don't think you realize the impact ya'll have made on society. I pray for God's Blessings upon you and your team's and all of your families! Thank you and May God Bless you all!!!

HEY AWP- can you put out a summary video after people were found to tell everyone where they were found? There's a lot of us that follow the story and look at the maps and try to figure out where else to look so it would be really interesting to hear where a body was found if it was found by someone else (like in this case). It might also serve to educate your audience so better suggestions could be made in the future on where to look. It also helps those of us who are also searchers learn from each case.

Jared you are so good at reading the rivers but most people don't undetdtsmf I'd that rivers are living things that change over night. Where you could walk across yesterday vouldvbe several feet deeper the next day. A rock rolling under the water and lodges will cause a swift moving broom to dig out a hole around and under it. Living on the river all my life I have a deep understanding of it and know that you must not ho walking through it thinking you will be safe every time.

We had a drowning just about 4 days ago on the river here. There was a group of friends kayaking and they said his kayak tipped over. They saw him go down and they couldn’t find him. Search and rescue were sent out to look and they had to stop because of it getting so dark. They were out the next day looking for him and he was never found. On the 3rd day some people out fishing happened to see him. People who doesn’t know the rivers here are in no way prepared for the temperature of the water or how fast the currents are. I was raised here and you can walk out maybe 5 foot and that current gets a hold of you and it’s super hard to get out of even if it’s not that deep. The water is normally in the 40s so the shock alone is bad enough to take your breath away and cause your body to freeze up. We have had quite a bit of rain on and off so there are logs and debris everywhere! Most of the time it ends up being a recovery as this one was. There are so many factors working against you on the river beside the temperature, the current, the debris, the snakes, and it’s deceiving because it can be so clear you can see the bottom but it may be 10ft deep. If you get caught up on a root system it’s like trying to pull yourself off of Velcro. There are also caves off of it. From where I live which isn’t to far from where he tipped over to where he was found can be easily floated in a day in a boat. My heart breaks for this young mans family and friends. You can’t find them all even on the lakes here. But at least you’re trying and that give the families some peace knowing someone cares enough to try no matter how many years have passed. God bless each and every one of you that take the time to look and to try to bring a loved one home. Thank you!!

For the peapole looking for blow up life jackets (the type they are wearing) make sure to check what tablets are inn them,(the tablets are what react to the water and activates the suit) These tables are usually made for saltwater and not suited for freshwater.
They will have a long delay in fresh water from getting wet to blowing up some up to 30 min's, but in salt water they function just fine.
These tables and canisters also have expiration dates so make sure to check them if you are uncertain.
Also packing them the correct way, not packing them the way they are supposed to will cause them to not blow up properly.
this is from personal experience, as we use this type of life-jacket at work but we have to test them every year.

I know you guys wish you could have recovered Jose. Thankfully he was recovered for his family.
I also bought 6 of those life saving devices that will cut the seatbelt and smash out the windows in case of fire, drowning, etc. I have one to each of my girls. Thank goodness for all you do

Just a bit of info: Vultures do NOT circle over dead animals. Vultures circling are them riding updrafts to gain altitude to continue their search. If a vulture finds carrion, it will land, not fly above circling.

I profoundly love how your videos are combined with your incredibly meaningful searches along with education regarding water safety. No matter how strong of a swimmer you may be, anything can truly happen. Please never ever swim/kayak/raft alone and always have a life jacket on hand.
God bless Jose and his extremely heartbroken family during this very difficult time of not knowing. May his friends and extended family wrap their loving arms around them and give them as much love and support as possible.
Lastly, thank you so incredibly much, AWP, as your work is unbelievable important and genuinely appreciated. I strongly hope your tireless work motivates others (with your similar skills) to do the same in their local communities across the world!!

Please don't beat yourself up to bad you have said many many times it's hard to find a body than it is a car the square foot area is so much smaller. I thank you for giving up your time to even try that's what's important is that you have at least tried for the family I hope the understand that as well

Thank you for explaining some of the more technical aspects of what you do. I appreciate how in most videos you explain how the sonar works. It took me several videos to finally understand what things look like on the sonar and how it works. Thanks too for explaining how the currents and eddies work.

9/11/2010, my Lil Cousin drowned. Our county dive team would not dive because their Sonar showed nothing. My Aunt hired a dive team and what Sacramento County dive team wouldn't do, the Davis county dive team found my Cousin in 4hrs 14ft down in the same spot he was last seen. His shorts were snagged on a branch. They saw him on his hands and knees position. He was lost for 18 whole days!! (California) You guys are awesome!!

Words cannot really describe the feeling you get, when you give your hearts effort into locating someone's loved one, yet despite All odds you are unable to locate and bring them back.... I myself have been a member of various law enforcement dive and recovery teams, and have felt this same feeling many times... I forget which team I heard this from but their Commander said it best when he spoke with the family of the missing person... Quote, "even though we did not locate them today, we now know for fact where they are NOT at, and that helps us focus our search and brings us one step closer to bringing them home to you"'.. ... I always make sure to let them know that even though I or whatever team I'm working with may not be able to spend weeks on end looking we make it a point to revisit and research until they're found.. and I am sure your group does the same.. it is a very Noble endeavor of what you and your group does and I wish the world was more filled with people like yourself... If your group happens to head towards the east I am located near Lansing, Michigan and wood be honored if you guys needed a place to stay for a bit on your journey.

Jarred, no one ever tried to find my cousin 40 years ago. We didn't have the means to travel from KY to New York. We were told her body is most likely in the Hudson river. Now, I know it's too late to solve her case. However, every effort you guys put forth is a great giant leap, more than you can even imagine. When able to bring closure, that's I icing on the cake!! Please, never ever underestimate the great things you all are doing! My cousin: Charollette Hiemans, Rochestér, NY. God Bless you all and prayers for safety!!
