You do a fantastic job. Now their parents can stop wondering if they will ever walk through the door again. And now their parents and friends can say farewell. Such an emotional story 😢😢 May those 2 young people now Rest In Peace.
I really hope you got some kind of award or recognition for your work. You probably brought closure and peace to so many friends and family members of these kids. I like to think I help people and change lives at my job, but this is a whole other level. Truly awe inspiring work!
The father told in an interview that he had been fishing on that spot for years. On a boat right over the car. That is a tough one. The amount of emotions when realising that your child was right next to you all those years I cannot even begin to imagine.
My church baptized me about 150 ft from where they were found and we've been kayaking that spot for years. It's crazy to me as much as that spot floods and dries up in summer, the car was never noticed
Its terrifying to me that you could go missing in 10 feet of water and your family never know what happened to you. Thank you for bringing the families some sort of closure.
It didn’t even look like it was possible for a car to be concealed it that relatively narrow , shallow and clear river for such a long time. So happy these kids finally can be put to rest and their family can start the healing process. As a mum of a teenager I can’t believe how anyone can live through the agony of not knowing where their children are. It must be the most devastating and desperate feeling in the world . Glad they finally have answers. All my love and prayers go out to them. And thank you Jeremy !
@@exploringwithnug Jeremy, noticed the windows were down when the car came up, did they extract the remains first or how did that work since you showed how the windows were up on your dive video? Thanks and keep up the good work
I spent 34 years as a Law Enforcement officer. You cannot put into words the meaning of finally recovering a long lost loved one for the families. I cannot imagine the hell the parents of these kids went through for over 20 years. Good job brother.
I lost a child in 2001. I know what happened to him so I cannot imagine the depths of despair these two families must have been in for 20 plus years. My prayers are with the families that can now have some closure. This is a big thing you did here sir. You are proving my point that nobody just disappears without a trace. I hope that you get a lot of subs out of this and can get funded to do more of these types of things. We all need closure. Thank you for your work.
OMG !! 20 years and only one man with persistance and limited resources solved the case and brought closure to the families. Extraordinary job ... well done man.

Thank you, sir. Jeremy Bechtel was my nephew. You have no idea how much this means for his family. I live in New Mexico now, but my son called me to give me the news. I was in shock but also relieved. Thank you so much.
I my heart goes out to you & wish Erin & Jeremy's family all the love & wishes of peace in mind & heart from knowing that Jeremy & Erin can finally get a proper burial before healing process begins...
I don’t mean to sound disrespectful but I didn’t hear if their remains were in the car. I would so hope that they were so they had them to bury with their family.

I can’t imagine how this must have felt, when you surfaced and said “They’re going home” I just lost it. You’re out here doing the work of saints. I hope you’ll be able to do this for many more years. So much respect for you, please take care. ❤️
I have been watching AWP for about a year and have seen you on there there. It is great how you all work together to find people peoples love ones.thanks for all your hard work.
This is the first time I've watched your video. You sir have a servants heart, one that chooses to put your ego aside and do everything you can to bring answers and closure to grieving families. May God Bless you and supply everything you need to continue in your calling.
God I love how the sheriff gave him his props. And the first thing he did was give him a hug. Literally starting tearing up. He didn't let his ego get in the way and validated someone else finding them. I've been watching these recovery videos lately, and some law enforcement have huge egos and are the polar opposite of how this fine sheriff acted. Props, and I'm glad you brought closure to this case and family.
I got emotional seeing that too. If only all law enforcement would be as gracious or even a simple thank you for the time and job well done to help those lost and their families.
When that officer hugged you, my heart just broke! You just know that case would have haunted him to the grave ,had they not been found! You sir, are a hero in the purest form! ❤
I remember when these kids went missing. I was living in Memphis at the time. It was all over the local news outlets and papers. I even rember seeing the missing person posters around town. Good to see the families got closure after all these years. Good work man.
How crazy it these kids have been missing for 20 years with countless people looking for them over those 20 years, then a RUclipsr finds him in one day.
@@purebloodnovacks8779 Google earth really has been a huge tool that didn't exist back then to narrow down search areas. And the thing is law enforcement isn't going to spend months searching every local water body. Nah he just wants the credit of discovering them. Thats why when he got the call he told the guy “dont make any more phone calls till im there” typical
@@BigClutchMarek or he didn't want the information getting out giving the family hope until it was confirmed by law enforcement. Duh! This is easily the most iconic moment of any of the diving recoveries on RUclips, imo, and that includes AWP who started it all. As a yankee from Minnesota, I remember this case from back in the day when it was all over the media during the early aughts and also remember how it was so terrifying because it was two high school kids who just seemingly went *poof* and disappeared forever.
I'm not usually an overly emotional man but when he was looking at that license plate and said "its them.. they're coming home" , it felt like I got hit in my chest and my eyes teared up something serious... It's incredible what your doing man, just incredible, really.

Yea I sure hope they didn’t mind congratulating him for completely solving this and doing their job for them after 20 years. The father of one of the victims has a lot of resentment towards the police for how much they fumbled and dropped the ball on this case for so long. The diver is amazing.
The Police didn’t have the equipment that they have now. This is just a theory, but it could be with it being a couple, the Police might have thought that the kids ran away together. Or maybe, they didn’t have a good dive team. There are so many different scenarios that could have happened, but they are now going home and the Parents can have some closure and start to heal.
I saw an instance where Adventures With Purpose finally, after many tries, found a missing young man who may have been murdered. The policeman was irritated it was on the weekend-his day off. CRAZY! These are real souls with crushed families. Why would you ever get mad at other professionals helping? EGO? Lazy?
Content creators like this should be highly compensated for their work which has true value and makes the world a better place. Unfortunately people of the world are screwed up in so many ways that they put greater value in people reviewing toys or doing trick shots on youtube instead of content like this. We are a shallow species for sure.
I love how friendly the cops were with you, too often they seem to get pissy with other divers who do the same work. It's a relief to see them accept the help and remember what is important
Well... I think... and I don't know, but it is a major crime scene until it's determined that it's not, and they don't want evidence disturbed? Like I say, I don't know if that's what it is, but I'm guessing.
I think this is a relatively small area, or was and it hit the locals very hard. Zero evidence of anything for 21 years..? They were all in agony especially the ones charged with finding out what happened.. Cold cases are the ones that haunt folks. That was genuine heartfelt appreciation when the Sheriff arrived, and yes he wasn’t going to let him make calls and start the rumor mill till things were figured out. Good on all for being delicate. RIP those two kids..
The main guy from the other similar channel wants everything to be about him, wants to be the center of attention and comes across as very narcissistic. I think that rubs off. Starts talking to the cops on a first name basis, like they're colleagues.

We had heard the story about the two teenagers over the years, and have come to feel like we knew them by being apart of this community. We know their families and know they are grateful, as is our whole community family for your dedication and giving back the families their loved ones. Thank you brother, you have truly made a difference in this world, especially here in Sparta, where you’ll always be welcomed with open arms and family that will do anything they can for you!

I have seen her husbands car around town with a handmade sign that says "what happened to grandma". It breaks my heart. Excellent job, and your editing was spot on. Thank you very much.
I hope some help comes and she is found. Please send this to all of these guys. They have submission methods. They're usually in the descriptions. I'm new to this channel but I'm sure they have an official way to ask for help. I pray she is found and brought home.

I've been a public safety diver for many years and I can understand how you feel when it comes to wanting to locate these young people however, I have one word of advice. No matter how experienced you are and how confident you feel in the water, please stop diving alone. I have recovered too many bodies who solo divers. Many of them were recreational divers who thought it was no big deal to go diving alone and were in water that seemed to be 'safe' with good visibility, no major currents or other observable hazards but still something happened and it cost them their lives. I have even had to recover bodies of professional divers with years of experience. Compared to diving in water where visibility is almost zero, even if it is shallow, there are unknown hazards where you could get snagged or you could have a medical emergency, your boat could have capsized, etc. I may be wrong, but it appears by this video no one knew exactly where you were until you contacted the sheriff. Did you notify anyone else of where you would be diving and what time you should be back? If something had happened to you and you needed help, how long would it have been before someone would have noticed you were missing? Not trying to be jerk about this but, the first thing taught to all divers is personal safety. Just trying to look out for you and I do appreciate you were able to put closure to this case for the families. Stay safe.
Thanks for your post, Eldon. I hope he listens to you. So many others are telling him the same thing. But he might not listen until it's coming from a fellow recovery diver.
Thanks for pointing out that most important lifesaving tip. My pucker level maxed out when he suited up alone. So many things can happen even in shallow water.
I absolutely love how the Sheriff hugged him and congratulated him. He didn't get an attitude and they were just genuinely happy that they have been found. Well done gentlemen.
I was very surprised how genuinely happy he seemed that the young man and woman had been found instead of being suspicious or sounding like ugh not more work. But seems like they had had contact before so he knew what it was all about, pretty good idea.

@@carriebizz Yes it is. I don't know why the local authorities never searched the Calfkiller River when Erin's family lived in that area. Instead they were clear over on the western edge of White County searching. When they searched. Thankfully this sheriff never stopped. I was in Law Enforcement for many years and a Firefighter once said to me that he wished his mind could forget what his eyes have seen. Same with you my friend. There's more to what you do than pulling off license plates. Stay safe..
I know a guy who is the chief of the water rescue squad in his city's fire department, and I can tell it takes a toll on him whenever it's a recovery and not a rescue.
I wonder during their final minutes, could they have escaped from the car? Maybe they passed out before or after hitting the water? I hope I don't sound inconsiderate. Sorry if I am.
All the law enforcement and emergency personnel should always welcome you guys with open arms. Your volunteering your time to help them close cases. I'm a Tennessean and used to drive through Sparta a lot in the 90s and 2000s. I vaguely remember this and am thankful you found them for their families
I am a former detective, I work missing person, and no, I didn't get my 20 and retired, I burn out working cases after 11 years, and what you are doing here are very noble, and I wish I have someone like you when I was working missing persons maybe I wouldn't burn out working cases, and I admire how you do this for the family and didn't ask for a cent back and bring them closure. We need more people like you. On the other hand, I want to address the question about how LE can't find them when they are 13 ft off the water. First of all, it may have been 13 ft, but river like that the mud and debris in the river bed, you may as well be in a 100 ft of water, because you aren't going to see anything anyway, it's not like it's clear running water in one of those national geographic episodes, as you can see from this video when he dive into the river, you can't see 5 ft in front of you. Another issue here is small PD like Sparta, TN, budget is very tight, small PD are always like this, you may think Police and Law Enforcement have unlimited resource but in reality, small PD like this wouldn't have 100k to do this and search the river up and down, if they have to do it, it's either coming out of their pocket or get help from TBI or TN State Trooper, I am not too sure if their county sheriff also have the resource to pull this off, and running a PD is not at all cheap, I used to work for a PD who only have 7 people, 5 of them certified LE officer and it cost over 2 mil to run a year, and those money they need to hire those equipment just weren't there, and it will take them ages to ask for TBI or State Trooper to either get the money or get the equipment to do this because every county and every city have their own case they are going to need help with. If Explore with Nug was not doing it for free, chances are Sparta PD may wait up to 10 years just to get this request thru, by then a lot can change. On the other hand, small PD like this means sometimes they are doubling or tripling their duty, it's not uncommon to work a few case at the same time, so there aren't just time to go back and think things over if you are knee deep in several different case that required your attention, meaning you either make the right direction in maybe 10 week working on a single case and you solve it, or not at all and it went unsolved, and the more you do have unsolved case the more case load you get because it just not going away, by the time you (or I in this case) knows it, you have 20 cases without direction at the same time and that's how cops get burn out. People need to understand when they call for defunding the police, this is where the funding goes, not all of the money goes into buying shiny new gears or firearms or police car, most of the budget goes into hiring people and training people for their job, and without these funding we are going to need to fall back on non-profit like this, or you are not going to get anything done, so next time people thinking of pulling funding off PD, think about this case, and how this close to never getting solve.
Who cares about money, this family deserved answers 20 years ago. You detectives are useless sometimes. Average citizens should not be doing your jobs for you.
@@seximexi5820 Who care about money?? Sure, I wish sometime some ground penetrating radar can simply just show up on any PD door no questions asked when we needed it. Everything is about money. At the end of the day, don't forget it's the chief who told nugs where to search.
@josephrochefort9989 There is an old saying in the force. "If you are starting to get too indifferent to the victim, it's time you choose another profession" The same motivation for cop is the same motivation for media to sell print, sadly most people found that entertaining on how people die under suspicious circumstances, the more detail the more print they are going to sell. I don't know about your sister, but for me, knowing how a person died put the flame on us and motivate us to catch the bad guys, so they don't do that to some other poor soul and we don't have to go thru that again, but there comes a time, you will basically see things the same way you used to, after you have seen the 111th bodies, you started to get indifferent, it's just another slab on the job, that's when you stop caring, and that's why the old saying said, it's time you find a new job.
Maybe cut a few billion from the military budget. And stop spending crazy amounts of money on turning police departments into military equipped forces. Then there would be be plenty of money to help the people .
@@josephmeveraert2306 I can tell you as a former police officer and military officer that what you said is categorically untrue. People use the term "Militarise the Police" when they see FBI is getting ex-Military MRAP or using military style assault rifle. But ignoring the fact that MRAP type vehicle was actually designed for Riot control, I mean they aren't everyday squad car you see patrolling the street and Law Enforcement has been using them since probably the invention of armoured car. The fact that we are ordering these military "hand-me-downs" instead of going after purposely built Riot Control vehicle show you how depleted their budget is, because it is simply cheaper to buy ex-Military MRAP than ordering a purpose build RCV. The number 1 budget for any PD countrywide is to pay officer and civilian employee salary, that runs into billions dollar a day across the US. The number 2 budget item for any PD is training, it takes around $20,000 - $50,000 to train up a single police officer, more if you are talking about specialist police.
The fact that you say, "this is not about me, its about them" when you are nervously talking earns my respect. There are other youtubers doing this type of stuff and sometimes I don't feel like they are doing it for the right reasons. Great job! On a side note have you thought about picking up one of those under water RV's with a camera? When you think you get a target from the boat you could throw it over the side and visually confirm what it is in minutes, vs pinning the target and then suiting up and diving it. They are pretty cheap and would make your search easier and also give some cool under water video content even on the "non target" items
I care less about motivation. There are RUclipsrs who specialise in destroying things, blowing stuff up, littering the environment with debris, filling swimming pools with bouncy balls or homes with styrofoam - and they earn incredible sums. Now comes along a bunch of content creators who are putting their skills to fantastic use while benefiting from RUclips's monetization system and suddenly I'm meant to be upset with that? Nah, I'll watch other channels like this all day long over the low quality content that reaches trending every day.
@@nxtchpforme9154 there are other channels out there who do this stuff and it just feels dramatized. Almost profiting off peoples trauma. Nug showed no footage of the family. For me, the most heart-wrenching thing about this story, is how those kids going missing tore their community apart. So many questions went unanswered. That frustration turned neighbor against neighbor. The boy's mom must have lived her remaining years in so much pain. She passed before they were found. It was really touching to watch that sheriff.

At what point do they remove the bodies? Before pulling the car out of the water? Sorry for the morbid question but I just wasn’t sure at the end if they were pulled from the car or not. I realize you can’t show that but it made me wonder
thats what i was wondering, when he first found the car he said all the windows are up and you can see them all intact, covered in algae, but when they bring the car up the front windows are knocked out
I'm sure they took out the bodies before the they removed the car. Can't imagine seeing the car in the air like that with two skeletons sitting in the seats.

Amazing recovery Jeremy. I know that there are two families, and two teenagers that now can be at peace. Their families will be able to grieve their children knowing what happened to them instead of being unsure where they are. My heart hurts for them for what they have gone through. You are a very compassionate person and seeing how clearly upset you were when making the call to the sheriff, I was crying for you. You did great. Keep up what you have been doing. God Bless you for bringing peace to these families.
Absolutely heartbreaking that their families have waited more than 20 years for this... absolutely wonderful that you kept searching and have brought them home... you could tell how grateful the Sheriff was by his response when you called to let him know and also on scene... thank you Jeremy for bringing resolution to those affected by this tragedy... wishing you the best on your next search...💕

Even though the river is very close to the roadway, couldn't the searchers 20 years ago have looked for tire tracks in the dirt and/or any broken or run over bushes & saplings, etc., as evidence that a car may have gone off the roadway into the river? Even where presently there is no guardrail, the river looks dangerously close to the road (see 17:11 - 17:25) and there's no shoulder. I can easily envision a driver drifting off the pavement on the right side, their tires hitting a rut in the dirt, and before they can react they are going downhill into the river. Especially inexperienced drivers like these poor kids.
Yes your correct - not knowing what happened , is what a parent can never get past . All the horrible pictures going through their minds of what could of happened . Now they know it was an accident / going to fast for that curve . 💔

Stay safe.

Jeremy- a man who listened to his inner voice telling him he could do more than search for treasures.
He is finding lost treasures. Somebody's lost children in this case.
I saw this 9 months ago and I came across this video again today and watched it again. It still had me in tears a second time. Jeremy you did an incredible and a very respectful job. I would definitely give you a hug and handshake if I ever crossed paths with you. There no words to describe the closure you gave these families and the towns people.I'm sure it was long overdue. God bless both of their souls. 🙏
I’m here today watching this for the first time…this man is surely an amazing person
I'm up to 8 times watching this over the years. It's an exciting, sad yet feel-good all rolled into one. Love the police response and the appreciation for the discovery.
I knew the Foster family after Erin went missing. They were definitely broken. I was in their lives briefly. I dated Erin's brother. THANK YOU SO MUCH for bringing some closure to the Foster family. Erin's parents are precious people and my heart breaks for them. -Tiffany

As a parent I cant imagine the utter hell these parents have gone through, wondering where their children are. Tonight they have answers, they know that a tragic accident ended the many Hope's and dreams these teenagers had, they know where their babies are, and at last they can lay them to rest. Jeremy "Nug" you are a hero. Your compassion and big heart pushed you on, and you have brought that whole town, the answers they needed.
Sleep peacefully Erin and Jeremy. Big hugs to the family, friends and all who helped to bring them home X 💜
His mom passed a few years ago sadly. But his family will have that closure finally and I sincerely hope they bury his remains with his mom who never gave up trying to find him

@@carriebizz Yes it is. I don't know why the local authorities never searched the Calfkiller River when Erin's family lived in that area. Instead they were clear over on the western edge of White County searching. When they searched. Thankfully this sheriff never stopped.
I think a lot of people assumed their deaths was due to some nefarious drug dealings, so they weren't worthy of too much time and money spent to find them.
This is just astounding!!! My heart goes out to you! This guy is an absolute hero!!!
When the Sheriff showed up and gave you a hug first thing, got me all teared up. It is so awesome to see how the Sheriff and his Deputies treated you. You did an amazing job bringing those kids home. Thank You!
I agree...so many times u see the police/sheriff talk down to these guys who do amazing work finding lost loved ones. But this sheriff is really happy to have found these 2 teens. I can't believe they were underwater for 20+ yrs....I graduated in '99, so these 2 souls have been there a long time. So glad this community hung on to hope and in the end worked together to help these families! Great work!
Thanks for helping in getting these two out of their watery grave. Now they will have proper closure and be laid to rest. They are in a better place now, they had bright futures, all washed away by the river water.
When you said “They’re coming home” tears instantly came pouring down my eyes. The amount of overwhelming sadness are words I can’t even explain. My biggest condolences for the families and friends… Thank you so much Jeremy, for truly putting these two souls to rest.

@@AbigailVHS Yes, cause they're "missing" for 20 years .
Both of them sitting in a sunken car for 20 yrs, waiting and waiting. Very chilling to even think about.

"If you are starting to get too indifferent to the victim, it's time you choose another profession"
The same motivation for cop is the same motivation for media to sell print, sadly most people found that entertaining on how people die under suspicious circumstances, the more detail the more print they are going to sell.
If these people get good results, who cares why they do it?

Incredible
Prayers for the family for answers and justice. Thank you for helping the family. Hope everyone had a good day.
