46:46 - to be fair, Mace Windu is worried about killing the Zillo Beast because it's the last of its kind. Killing Jango was like the complete opposite issue, he got thousands of replacements just a few minutes later
I think if it had been an actual duel between Jango and Mace that ended with Mace forced to kill him, rather than just running him down and chopping off his head cuz he felt like it, it would be more justified.
That doesn't justify it in ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM. A jedi isn't supposed to take a life when it doesn't have to be taken, and yet Mace "Asshole Of The Jedi Council" Windu ran up to a man and brutally executed him like he thought he was a gladiator in a Roman arena.
Only thing I thought felt off was how his character was how he talked about the freedom not to kill for a living…. The geonosian brain worms gave me nightmares as a kid. Honestly still really creepy looking at them now. Also, what do keep them in? is the round thing a fruit or what?
I legit loved how they made cad bane such a skilled bounty hunter in this season. Man went up against obi wan and vos. Literally one of my favorite villains throughout all of Star Wars
I don't remember the name anymore but I remember reading a comic when I was a kid where Boba met the son of a runaway clone and pretty much exactly what you said happens in the story
By the way, the VO for the turtle Jedi in lightsaber lost is Greg Baldwin, Iroh’s VO from season 3+ of Avatar. So in essence, Ashoka teamed up with Iroh
Honestly it would have been *less* headache inducing if Bane made the little robot dude explode once in every arc he appears in. That way we could reason that the little robot just has a lot of spare bodies.
Since they are back to back in terms of episode order (even tho they were in different seasons,) I always thought that Cad Bane taking the Senate building hostage was what endeared him to Palpatine, so *BECAUSE* of the events of Hostage Crisis, Palpatine seeked out Cad Bane to hire him for The Holocron Kidnapping arc. But now the other way around makes like no sense.
@@seanmansfield4853 I think it's way cooler that way too. Palpatine getting completely blindsided by someone he's never met, and then deciding to put it to use
Actually, in the extended universe it's explained that the geonosians were enslaves and overworked to extinction by the empire. They died building the Death Star I think
They were used as slave labour to build the Death Star and after it was completed the Empire killed off their entire population just to keep DS a secret for now.
I’m ashamed how long it took me to realise Palpatine’s interest in the zilo beast only perks up after Anakin tells him the scales are *lightsaber proof…*
_"They really should destroy the entire Geonosian race."_ - _"Yeah, this planet really is rotten from the inside out."_ Endorsing genocide definitely isn't something I would've expected coming out of this channel
what strikes me the most about this season is how diverse its stories are. In 20 episodes you get a heist movie, a war movie, a horror movie, a kaiju movie, a samurai movie (kinda), a revenge/outlaw movie and I may have missed more. And with all these genres explored, Filoni and his team still managed to make it feel like star wars stories. This show, and this season in particular are a perfect example of how everything can be star wars and how lazy it is to just repeat some storylines endlessly ... *cough cough* sequels ...
Which is why this season is so essential. It takes tropey stories an makes them feel like Star Wars as a baseline for the more experimental episodes and arcs.
@@Nautolan77 it would have felt out of place anyways because of the animation because season 1 and season 2 were way more wooden and stiff middle of season 3 the animation feels smooth and fluid
@@lo9893 to me, the animation steps up in the beginning of the second season. The battle of Geonosis is the first time where I can really call this show beautiful and impressive. But you are right that every new season gets better than before in terms of animation.

Yeah way too much stuff happened in the war for that to make sense imo. Plus, the way the timeline is set up the characters ages get weird, like Obi-Wan's in his fifties despite being an old-ass man in A New Hope. Should've just made it last like 6-10 years, it is a galactic-wide war after all, with battles ranging from the outer edges of the galaxy to it's capital.
@@TheFirstCurse1 Yeah, honestly I'd be totally fine with the clone wars, or spinoffs like the Bad Batch, just continuing through the rest of the series up to the sequels. That would go a long way to make some of the weird stuff in Star Wars make more sense, and would flesh out the franchise a lot. It'll never happen, I mean that would be like at least another 20 seasons, but that would be cool. Personally Clone Wars is my favorite piece of Star Wars media, and the one I consider the best, so the more Star Wars is in that form the better it'll be imo

I just want to comment this and stress this: Cut lost his entire squad. He didn’t lose 20% of his squad. He didn’t even lose 50%. He lost his whole squad. Look at what it’s done to him. You can see the death in his eyes, but he keeps on going. This is why Cut is one of my favorite characters.
19:06 Technically, Star Wars has had zombies before, albiet in Legends. The books Death Troopers and Red Harvest both cover their own idea of a zombie virus created by sith alchemy and are pretty solid books imo.
I'm not sure how canon it is, but there's also Rakghouls from Legends/SWTOR (though they are more like zombie/werewolves than standard zombies). Basically a Sith made a talisman to convert people near it that would mutate them into monsters, however when he saw that it wasn't 100% effective (force sensitives and certain species weren't turned by the talisman) he made a virus that infected people to slowly transform after being bit/scratched by a Rakghoul.
@@karmicrespite5737 yeah, that’s a scary fate to succumb to, and I think they brought it into the Canon through the comics, at least the Rackghouls were, but it was brought on by a cursed amulet, i think

Fun fact, during the investigation of a Senator's murder, the lady also kills the Senator for Umbara. Guess how that's relevant for a breakdown in relations from a certain planet?
I read the comic where Darth Vader destroys the Geonosis Queen who is now using cybernetics to survive and he also pretty much killed all the other Geonosians as well
54:51 is a neat little character statement about Anakin, he seems to know each and every clone he encounters, the way he said that sounded as if he knew him personally, even tho Ponds was literally Mace's commander, Anakin still was the one to comment on it
I don't even think you have to argue that, I think it's explicitly stated wiping out an entire Village of people versus choking out a prisoner is very different
I still think that the best rendition of General Greivous ever, was in the 2003 Clone Wars done by Genndy Tartakovsky. In that, Greivous' first appearance shows him fighting 6-7 Jedi, and killing all of them, except 1 or 2 survivors (and I'm pretty sure the survivors were Shaak Ti and Ki-Adi Mundi, who need to be alive in order to die during Order 66).
It was Aayla Secura, Ki Adi Mundi, and Shaak Ti. The fur one also was left behind and critically injured (he had to live for the legends comics). I agree he was amazing and the battles of both Hypori and Courscant made him great
I feel skipping over analyzing Lightsaber Lost is a huge miss, in a lot of season 1 Ahsoka can be annoying and childish, and this is the last episode where she is annoying for the most part. Ahsoka wouldn't be people's favourite character if she remained the annoying Togruta girl, so it is good that the show takes it's time to teach her, even though it may be presented as a childish moral-of-the-story style episode. It's just as important, if not more important to her overall character arc in the show. Also I like the visual style of the cyberpunk genre, so seeing the streets of Coruscant is a win for me.
I did find it annoying that Anakin killing Tal-Marek was a 'OOOOO HE'S GOING DARKSIDE' Tal-Marek makes it clear he's gonna blow the thing up and kill THOUSANDS once he's escaped, not if they dont let him escape, WHEN he's escaped. And Satine refuses to shoot him because she doesn't want to be called a hypocrite! Being a pacifist means you're willing to sacrifice your own moral purity to protect the peace! Obi-Wans no better, he was going for the kill, until he's reminded 'Oh right, the woman I'm simping for will be sad...if I don't let HER PEOPLE die' Anakin decided 'Yeah simple math, one man vs thousands of people', isn't that the whole point? Use lethal force when needed?
Being a Pacifist means being a non confrontational person. You're a neutral party. Not whatever you're describing up there. That's a hero, not a pacifist. Well, yes, Anakin was right to kill Tal Marek. The little bit of the imperial march is an allegory to him slowly losing his path. A constant exposure to violence will eventually make you be desensitized with it. Same with what Anakin did in the interrogation scene but I do agree, not so much with Tal Marek but it's a tiny bit relevant so that's why the little imperial march made an appearance.
You don't understand this AT ALL. Anakin 100% could've disarmed and taken him out nonlethally, but instead his IMMEDIATE FIRST REACTION was to impale him from behind. THAT'S what that scene is about. And for fuck's sake stop misusing the word simp. It's gotten to the point where idiots like you just throw that word at anyone who's in a relationship. Obi-Wan cares about this woman more than almost anything else. If you've ever been in love, put yourself in his shoes. You'd understand immediately.
1. Satine has probably never killed a person so she was probably pretty scared to do it and I’m pretty sure you can see her shaking 2. Anakin yes does the right thing but has no regard for killing a human being and shrugs it off like nothing happened 3. Kenobi was probably scared to kill the guy in front of satine and probably thought if he made a sudden attack move he could’ve still pressed the button
I hope whatever James and Patrick recorded for season 3 and possible future seasons still gets released even if unfinished. This Channel just won’t be the same now 😔
57:00 The clone wars team admitted that this was supposed to be a much longer conversation but they had to cut it down for time reasons. I wish we could have the full conversation or at least the script.
I'm actually curious if Palpatine purposefully made himself an ally with the Geonosians so he could find a way to use the worms to mind control the clones for Order 66. It just makes sense, since the clones didn't want to kill the Jedi.
He ordered the chips to be in the clones heads around 32 bby but he made the geonosians an ally because they made the death star plans and would be used to build it them He committed genocide and killed them all
@@CoolMyron I know that the chips were the THING that made the clones turn, but I was thinking that the geonosians provided INSPIRATION for the technology
Even though I would have loved to see the thoughts on the other seasons, I truly understand if it stopped here. Rest in Peace Patrick, thank you for all of the laughs and great moments
20:15 They don't make the Wookies who get introduced in later seasons speak English, but I think you're right about everyone else. I always found it super weird that Ziro is apparently the only Hutt who can speak English. Also, 40:17 that line from Anakin "What? He was gonna blow up the ship!" with the hilariously casual delivery is possibly my favorite line in this entire series. I crack up every single time, and there's so much there story-wise too!
46:45 idk why people have a problem with that considering Jango was armed and they were in a massive battle where it would be impossible to take a prisoner EDIT: The "you're going to have to" line was a dick move though
Yeah like Mace isn't a bad dude yet people just keeping repeating stuff like Jango death, the Ashoka trail and the council (both of which something Mace only had one vote on) not making Anakin a Master. He honestly done far, far less bad than even other Jedi yet people treat him like he's corrupt or heartless.
@@proudspartan313 Yeah, the dude is just a hardass, but he isn't heartless. Frankly it was right not to give Mastery to Anakin given he was so focused on how strong he was over the more important philosophical part of being a Jedi. Anakin lacked the proper temperament. But at his core, he was still a good guy who never really went over the edge and would definitely want to preserve the Zilo beast.
@@brendanmystery Actually if you look at the scene his jetpack is already damaged. Jango even tries flying away but Jango didn't know it was damaged which led to his demise. Mace also did disarm his blaster but perhaps saw in that split second Jango trying to fly off and didn't want to risk this agent of Dooku (who previously tried burning Mace, killed a Jedi & tried to kill Senator) getting away. Jango likely isn't just some evil dude doing it for laughs but he's still has blood on his hands. He's apart of a system that requires death be done and the separatists are more than willing to use someone like him for the upcoming war. (See Cad Bane in the video for example) Jango didn't seem to mind where the money came from.
Also Jango wasn't ordered by Dooku to go down in the arena to kill Mace, he just decides to do it because...reasons??? He even tries going for Mace's lightsaber only to miss and immediately get his shit kicked in by a dumb CGI monster. So Jango, twice, instigated the attack and go for the kill.
The Zillo beast was actually reintroduced by The Bad Batch in the episode Metamorphosis. I really like how they introduced the creature on a mysterious ship in a way that you could barely tell what it is at first, only to see it grow significantly by feeding on a power plant. It's definitely not one of the filler episodes and works perfectly well with what was established in The Clone Wars. Now we canonically know that the Zillo beast probably wasn't woken up by the electric WMD, but actually consumed some of the explosion, which is hysterical!
I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since Patrick and Chris’s death. They produced so many great videos with Schaff and I hope they’re watching his new ones from Heaven. Rest in peace you guys. We miss you 😢 🕊️
Also, I love how this show merges the two very different relationships between Anakin and Obi-Wan. In AotC, Anakin is whiney and disobedient and Obi-Wan acts like he wants nothing to do with him and berates him. But then in RotS, they're suddenly great friends. And CW does a great job of merging that. Being the first chronological episode, Cat and Mouse is closest in time to AotC and there's still that same dynamic. Anakin is disobeying orders and kind of whining while Obi-Wan is constantly upset at him for not listening, and there's more of that in season one, like in the arc where R2 goes missing. Early on, their banter is more arguing than poking fun at each other. But it slowly turns from barely tolerating each other into that brotherhood

I have a theory regarding the Queen that could possibly explain how she learnt Galactic Basic (English) that also tie back to the worms. I believe that the Queen was Force Sensitive and used beast domination on the worms. We currently don't know anything about the Worms' history, but my theory is that before the Queen, the worms were a simple hive mind that took control of the Genosians, but when the Queen was born she used her force abilities to take control of the Worms and use them to make a Genosian Empire. Then when Luminara was captured she used the force to rip the language of Galactic basic from her mind.

There was one thing Mace Windo could have said to Boba after he said he would never forgive him: "Neither can I." It would have shown that Mace had felt remorse over killing Boba's dad(?) right in front of him, providing some kind of compassion and sympathy for Boba.
i actually really like the answer mace gives. Boba killed dozens of (in this situation) innocent people, in a petty bid for revenge. He doesn't deserve empathy (I mean, just in this arc. lets ignore the sex trafficking he does later). While yeah, he eventually does the right thing in the arc, if he really wants to move on as a person, he DOES have to forgive mace.
Personally, I watched Star Wars The Clone Wars before Attack Of The Clones so I was freaking out a bunch like I knew that Anakin would live but Mace? No I had no idea. It scared me so bad and gave me an intense experience.
When I was a kid I watched it before I watched basically any other star wars media (apart from the force awakens cuz that's what gave little me interest) and back then there wasn't season 7 so I was just like "this is a cool group of boys. I hope nothing bad happens to them"
Currently watching clone wars for the first time. Watched a bit as a kid but dont remember literally anything. I just finished season 2 yesterday so the timing on this upload was perfect for me. Loving the show so far, and since all I hear is that it gets so much better I'm really excited for the later seasons.
Every season outshines the previous in one way or another. And season 4 is where the show goes pedal to the metal and pretty much abandons all pretense of being a kid's show. Have fun lol. I'm rewatching the show now for the first time in nearly ten years and god it's so fucking fun
There are so many minor moments in this Season that I adore, especially with the second Zillo beast episode. I've always reckoned that the reason Palpatine wanted it on Coruscant was because he was infatuated with its strength and power, and being a Sith, these are things he admires and respects. Another moment is that the music changes in that episode, from action "BOOYAH, LETS KILL SOME FOOLS" to sad and lamenting and tragic when they end up killing the Zillo beast. Kevin Kiner honestly is underappreciated for his scoring.
Season 2 has always been one of my favorite Clone Wars seasons for the big reason you mentioned: Its consistent in its quality. There are other seasons that I think are of overall higher quality, but season 2 really manages to hit a consistent stride throughout, while providing some of my now favorite Clone Wars episodes (like Landing at Point Rain, Legacy of Terror, Grievous Intrigue, & Voyage of Temptation)
8:23 I was curious about this so I re-watched the holocron arc again and I THINK I figured out what they were going for. It ties in with the previous episode: Ahsoka is loosing her battle and refuses to retreat, Obi-wan say's she's following anakin's example. The reason her current reckless behavior is getting her in trouble is because she lacks anakin's skill, but still trying to act how he does. He needs to realize the example he sets for her will influence her actions, and possibly put her in danger.

They didn't die from overworking, it was because the empire gassed the planet to make sure word didn't get out about the Death Star.
It's revealed that the Empire sterilized the entire population on Tarkin's orders to keep the Death Star project a secret.
They were used as slave labour to build the Death Star and after it was completed the Empire killed off their entire population just to keep DS a secret for now.

what strikes me the most about this season is how diverse its stories are.
@@thomasffrench3639 Exactly ! Otherwise the Mortis arc for example would have felt maybe "out of place"

Honestly, I still can't get over how the Clone Wars only canonically lasts for about 3 years.
My headcanon is that it was basically 4, starting at the very beginning of 22 BBY and continuing all the way to the very end of 19 BBY.
Yep. Star Wars needs to be remade so badly. They could fix all of the plotholes and retcons while fixing dumb shit like this.

@J Dude Nice
When I found that out, I was so surprised
I still think that the best rendition of General Greivous ever, was in the 2003 Clone Wars done by Genndy Tartakovsky. In that, Greivous' first appearance shows him fighting 6-7 Jedi, and killing all of them, except 1 or 2 survivors (and I'm pretty sure the survivors were Shaak Ti and Ki-Adi Mundi, who need to be alive in order to die during Order 66).
He was a badass in that show
Ah, poor Shaa-gi
Literally EVERYONE agrees with that statement.
Honestly Ahsoka is still boring

I did find it annoying that Anakin killing Tal-Marek was a 'OOOOO HE'S GOING DARKSIDE'
Tal-Marek makes it clear he's gonna blow the thing up and kill THOUSANDS once he's escaped, not if they dont let him escape, WHEN he's escaped. And Satine refuses to shoot him because she doesn't want to be called a hypocrite! Being a pacifist means you're willing to sacrifice your own moral purity to protect the peace!
Obi-Wans no better, he was going for the kill, until he's reminded 'Oh right, the woman I'm simping for will be sad...if I don't let HER PEOPLE die'
Anakin decided 'Yeah simple math, one man vs thousands of people', isn't that the whole point? Use lethal force when needed?
Being a Pacifist means being a non confrontational person. You're a neutral party. Not whatever you're describing up there. That's a hero, not a pacifist. Well, yes, Anakin was right to kill Tal Marek. The little bit of the imperial march is an allegory to him slowly losing his path. A constant exposure to violence will eventually make you be desensitized with it. Same with what Anakin did in the interrogation scene but I do agree, not so much with Tal Marek but it's a tiny bit relevant so that's why the little imperial march made an appearance.
Lethal force wasn't needed though. He could have just cut his hand off or used the force.
Anakin basically solved the Star Wars equivalent of the Trolley Problem: willingly killed one person in order to save the lives of many more.

The clone wars team admitted that this was supposed to be a much longer conversation but they had to cut it down for time reasons. I wish we could have the full conversation or at least the script.
I'm actually curious if Palpatine purposefully made himself an ally with the Geonosians so he could find a way to use the worms to mind control the clones for Order 66. It just makes sense, since the clones didn't want to kill the Jedi.
He ordered the chips to be in the clones heads around 32 bby but he made the geonosians an ally because they made the death star plans and would be used to build it them He committed genocide and killed them all
thats not how it worked. The chip controlled the Clones. That was in place way before the worm thing

"Study the bottom of my boot" is also a great line from this season lol. Always gives me a chuckle watching him and Obi-Wan banter in that cave
To be fair Ziro lived on Corouscant so its nit far fetched that he decided to learn the language.
In a season 3 episode, Greedo speaks English. I can see why they did it, since it wouldn’t work otherwise, but like, come on
Please don’t stop doing these Clone Wars retrospectives. I love them!
46:45 idk why people have a problem with that considering Jango was armed and they were in a massive battle where it would be impossible to take a prisoner
EDIT: The "you're going to have to" line was a dick move though
Yeah like Mace isn't a bad dude yet people just keeping repeating stuff like Jango death, the Ashoka trail and the council (both of which something Mace only had one vote on) not making Anakin a Master. He honestly done far, far less bad than even other Jedi yet people treat him like he's corrupt or heartless.
could have taken out the jetpack and his hands.

3:49 I can think of at least 2.
1. Droidbait lived up to his name
2. Droidbait really baited himself into this
I may not like Star Wars but I like Schaff's love and passion for it
Star Wars is just the American equivalent of the Godzilla series
RELEASE ANOTHER EPISODE OF THIS SERIES PLEASE!!! I love watching you 2 talk about this show.

Or alternatively, the Queen is just inherently a lot smarter than all the other Geonosians, and somehow learned to speak Basic.

I heavily agree, clone wars just got better as time went on. It adapted well imo
There was one thing Mace Windo could have said to Boba after he said he would never forgive him: "Neither can I."
It would have shown that Mace had felt remorse over killing Boba's dad(?) right in front of him, providing some kind of compassion and sympathy for Boba.
i actually really like the answer mace gives.
That's cool, but why care about Mace Windu? I guess he has a cool lightsaber but that's it. He's an asshole.
When I was a kid I watched it before I watched basically any other star wars media (apart from the force awakens cuz that's what gave little me interest) and back then there wasn't season 7 so I was just like "this is a cool group of boys. I hope nothing bad happens to them"
As much as this season gets a bad rep from some people, the Boba Fett and Duchess of Mandalore arcs are two of my favourites of the series.
Currently watching clone wars for the first time. Watched a bit as a kid but dont remember literally anything. I just finished season 2 yesterday so the timing on this upload was perfect for me. Loving the show so far, and since all I hear is that it gets so much better I'm really excited for the later seasons.
I was in your position before season 7. It gets better
“Droidbait really lived up to his name” Is a pretty good pun about him.
Farewell, Kings Patrick and Chris. May James be able to move on with you in his heart.
