  • @CurtGodwin
    @CurtGodwin 17 дней назад +14

    I opted for the '24 Colorado ZR2 because I thought it was the best value-for-capability midsize truck available today. The Tacoma (in TRD Pro trim) was on my short list - as was the Ranger Raptor - but the dealer adjustments for the RR were stupid, and the MSRP of the TRD Pro was unjustified (IMO). The ZR2 scratched every "itch" I had, has front & rear lockers, super capable out-of-the-box, and wasn't astronomically priced... and effectively the same price as a moderately-optioned TRD OffRoad (which still doesn't have a front locker) when the ZR2 is modestly outfitted (but still at/above TRD OffRoad level). I never thought I'd not only own a Chevy... but be happy about it, too. Yet here we are. 🙂

      @CowboysFanJosh 17 дней назад +4

      I made the same decision. Originally, I was waiting for the Tacoma Trailhunter (waited for over a year for the price release), which was way too expensive. The fully optioned TRD Off Road was $57K and the ZR2 fully optioned was about $54K. After doing thorough research, the ZR2 made WAY more sense. The ZR2 looks much better too.

    I have a 2022 TRD sport. I love it and even though it gear hunts on hills on highways, I have learned to ignore it. Everything is rock solid and no issues in 24,000 miles. My wife doesn’t like the low seating position. I like the new one, but until mine gives me any issues I am going to keep her and the 4x4 works good too even if tricky to get it in 4x4 mode.

    I have a TRD OR Premium iForce Max on the way. The ONLY issue i think is a nuisance (but have not verified myself) is not being able to use the tailgate view on the rear view mirror. I intend to put a cap on the back.
    There are camera relocation kits out there, but pulling the cab apart and then be left with an obstacle to muck around with where the camera ends up mounted would be a nuisance.

    The Toyota manual transmission is having serious issues! I have a 2020 TRD sport with 90,000 miles and it has had zero problems and probably runs better now than when it was new. For this reason I feel that I can wait for another model year or two until all the bugs are exterminated! I like the looks of the new Tacoma. It looks updated rather than radically changed. It’s certainly better looking than the Tundra. Btw, the composite bed has been beefed up over the gen 3.

    I drove the Colorado and I hated how it rode.. the suspension just felt (emphasis on feeling) not up to the task of keeping in the back tires in line. Just not very confidence inspiring. Also the center arm rest is made out of sand paper??
    The interior of the ranger felt cheap. I didn’t like low the center console was.
    Came back to what I drove first: the taco. and basically loved it. Handled well enough for a truck. Rode great. The interior ergonomics was the best. The new engine and transmission is great. Toyota safety sense 3.0 works well. Yea the taco is expensive, but so is everything else in this segment. But you get the best with the taco.

We have purchased this truck to be a long term tester on our own dime so that our viewers can get the answers that cannot be answered in 7 days. Also this is one of the highest mileage 24’ Tacoma’s at the time of filming. Sorry for any confusion, and thanks for watching.

    I have a 21 Tacoma Trd OR. It’s has slightly uncomfortable seats, the gearhunter Auto, bouncy ride & subpar mpg for its size. I like the improvements to the new Gen Tacoma, but the 4wd system & transmission worry me some due to TFL truck channel & reading about some major trans problems. I’ll probably wait & buy a 25 or 26, let the bugs be worked out & hopefully interest rates back to normal when Trump 🇺🇸 gets in. Ford interiors always feel cheap to me, toy like buttons. The GM twins 8sp auto trans would worry me, major problems. And I steer clear of any Stelantis products. The new Frontier is probably a safe buy & should last a long time. But unsure because Consumer Reports rates it reliability badly. Plus my 21 is nearly paid off, man, what to do. 🙄

    I think they're dead on, with the current market buying new is advantageous with some of the 0 and 1.99% offers out there.... yet if you pull out a loan calculator buying a used full size for a similar or slightly less price gets you so much more for your dollar.

    Imagine charging $47k for midsize truck and not including hood liner and / or engine cover at the base. As for the "it still offers a manual transmission," not sure you want that for multiple reasons. For starters, it has issues they can't even fix yet. Outside of those year 1 kinks, I would never opt a 6 speed manual over 8 speed auto with a turbo 4cyl. While these new bigger turbo 4cyl are leaps and bounds better than NA V6s, you really want the extra gears from a 8-10 speed auto to pull out the full potential of keeping it in it's optimal power band. The taco's new turbo 4cly was built and optimized for the 8 speed auto. The 6 speed manual was tossed in and adapted to something meant for two more gears.

It's a basic of a truck in my opinion but has just enough tech to make me happy. Also I can get it in my garage. I dodged the last hailstorm a couple of months ago.
