Dovekie Rescue | Nature Near You

OVF Naturalist Kim Gaffett helped this little lost Dovekie get back to the water on Block Island. Built for a life at sea, their legs are set so far back on their bodies that they can't walk very well on land, and can become stranded during heavy storms.

I have to agree what an adorable little guy OR GIRL😏. So they fly to land in bad weather how are they able to take off again. Do they touch down near to the water or do they do their best to return to the sea in order to fly

Well, that's the thing. In storms, they can be blown over land and without assistance, they are stranded once they're on the ground.
