What a strange thing, how do you think it got here?

It was very strange! I am not aware of there being a previous record of a Dovekie in the city. I do recall that there were sustained strong winds from the Northeast throughout that week, so my theory is that it was blown in from a coastal storm and got lost. Some coastal birds such as Northern Gannets, Razorbills, among others, go down this route and end up somewhere between Ottawa and Hamilton via the rivers and lakes. It doesn't always end in a good outcome for them.
