Sure their auto version will be a hit when it comes out, but I think quartz is the right move in this model, as it's more pure to the 70s inspiration.
There you go. Exactly.
Perfect!
Thanks like this watch, may be part of my collection
Thanks, would you recommend over seiko at same price for my collection?
@@dennisdusing7847 If you’ve never owned a Seiko 5, you should try one. The new SRPD and SRPE series has a TON of great options in colors AND plenty of mods you can buy. However, if you’re not into modifying watches and buying aftermarket parts, this Tissot is better for you. You can just buy it, adjust the strap, set it and forget it. Great everyday watch for a student, office worker or one who works from home
This is a great watch. Tissot is killing it lately.
Yup. When you got fashion brands like D1 Milano, Paul Rich, and Valuchi doing these “70s themed” almost Royal Oak rip offs, I’m
Glad a respected brand can make a version that I’m not afraid to buy.
The only thing Tissot kills is the chance of good customer service.
Killllllin’ it!
It is, but only thing that isn't is quartz mechanism in it.
@@Fantac0010 The Powermatic 80 version is available though.
Great looking watch. While I know most "watch people" turn up their noses at quartz, I personally like having a mix. Quartz watches are always more accurate than my automatics, even though I store my autos in a watch winder. They are just so easy to throw on before heading out for the day and not have to worry about if the time/day is set correctly.
Objectively, quartz is superior to any mechanical movement.
It depends, running fast I would not adjust
I agree completely. Some of the most iconic watches of the twenty first century have been quartz. I have a mix in my collection as well. Particularly for sports I really appreciate the quartz movements. For example when I swim I just take it (Certina) out of the case and I'm ready to go.
@Teej Coolness isn’t objective and resale value is due to the brand name and overall watch package, not because it has an mechanical movement or not.
Quartz is rugged, shock resistant, cheaper to install, cheaper to maintain and magnitudes more accurate. If you _prefer_ a mechanical watch that’s fine, but that isn’t a position based completely on logic and fiscally sound reasoning.
@Teej No, I think _you_ missed my point. Lets say we are discussing the fitness of cars, we'd be talking about the 0-60mph, braking distance, handling, cornering, NVH, road noise, etc. The drivetrain underneath could be an internal combustion engine possible supercharged or turbo charged, a hybrid, all electric, front wheel drive, rear wheel drive, all wheel drive, front engine, mid engine, rear engine, longitudinal or transverse mounting, a manual transmission, an automatic, a computerized clutch, a CVT, whatever. But fast is fast. Lots of guys prefer a combustion engine and a manual transmission because they feel "connected" to the car and electric "doesn't have a soul." That's fine. That's a personal preference, but that doesn't change the fact that an electric Tesla is faster than a V8 BMW and needs less maintenance.
There's a weird disconnect with watch collecting. If you want finer details and better finishing, you have to ditch the quartz movement and get a watch with an inherently less accurate, 300 year old mechanical technology. I have mostly mechanical watches in my collection and I like them but they're not as accurate as quartz. Every single watch is both a time telling tool and designed to look good. For those watches I'm paying more for the "fashion" aspect than I am for the "tool" aspect. If a collector only cares about how a watch looks, as a fashion accessory, then it doesn't matter if it's a MVMT or a Rolex, they're both doing the exact same thing.
I saw Tissot official saying that later this year they would be releasing an automatic version, if and when they do I will certainly be picking one of these up.
I saw that too. Actually I commented on one of Tissot IG post of this watch asking and they did confirm they would be releasing an automatic in the summer 2021
Yep they announced it but it seems that it will not be exactly the same... They are talking about a "waffle" dial for the automatic version... More royal oak like dial.. Wait and see
Why not pick up a quartz?
@@RM-el3gw On the average, an automatic movement is a lot nicer to look at and it also appears more elegant / sophisticated, IMO.
@@RM-el3gw I certainly don’t mind quartz watches, I have a ton of casio digital pieces, and so In turn I guess if I’m getting quartz it’s going to be a full on digital watch, and if I’m getting a simple three hander, I just really like them to be automatics.
For me, it would be a breathe of fresh air to see more manufacturers produce high-end quartz watches again. Not just Grand Seiko. Assuming they are priced high enough, with a large enough owner-base, the manufacturers could guarantee repairability for the forseeable future. Especially for a large group like Swatch, where multiple brands could standardize on a few quartz movements.
Same here! Making high-quality quartz movements and some effort to sell them would be great. Quartz is just so much more convenient.
people don't understand how much I love this watch and my collection is nothing to sneeze at. I just bought one for my 12 year old son and he is captivated by it. Tissot hit it out of the park, hard to find something of this value at this price point. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and sturdiness of the bracelet.
What's in your collection? Innocent question as I only own a 1975 seiko 4843 7000 And an eco drive 200m
Buying the quartz. Seven year battery and everyday wear. It’s good enough for me. Love the style.
Does it remind anyone else of a rolex oysterquartz? I instantly thought of it when looking at design and case shape
I thought the same 👍
I see Rolex Oyster quartz, but 1st sight for me was Zenith Defy
Yasssssss
@@scottlalonde2878 agree, but the original Defy doesn’t look like this at all. And this looks exactly like the original PRX.
I really think Oysterquartz is the inspiration. In any case, I like it and I don’t care. I’ll try it in a shop first, but probably buy it in the end 👍🏼
@@nikouai I can't remember what the original Defy looked like, if I've even seen it. In any event, Nikolay, please wear and enjoy your new watch in good health! 👍
I actually like the PRX quartz better than the automatic! I’m not a big fan of the waffle dials to be honest, more of a sunburst guy myself. Plus it’s well priced and would make a good daily wear piece or even a weekend piece depending on what you are willing to spend on a watch
Doesn't look too bad! I would wear one definitely! Plus I looked up the movement and it's a really well-built jeweled movement. $375 is a bargain cheapest I could find. Cheers
That's a reissue of the 1978 Tissot 40205 Seastar Quartz, their take on the late 70s high-end quartz models with similar style like the Rolex OysterQuartz, Seiko King Quartz and Grand Quartz.
Automatic movement to be introduced later.
This watch keeps popping up on my radar and your review explained exactly why fantastically. It’s not my cup of tea, but I see the appeal. Keep up the great work.
I had the pleasure of trying out this watch Tissot prx quartz in silver dial with gold hands Wow very impressed quality and craftsmanship put on the watch this watch can easily compete with watches costing in $1000's all day
Tissot has a home run hitter.
Being a kid of the 70's I'm digging this one!
Take a shot everytime he says "Full authorised dealer of Tissot"

The automatic version will be a strong competitor of the Maurice Lacroix Aikon!
Teddy, will you be comparing the automatic version to the ML Aikon when it comes out? Do you know if they are going to come out with leather straps for the PRX?
hello even for the glass and the bracelet which is switching on the aikon
TISSOT IS A STRONG SOLID TRADE I AM AGREE AND I HAVE THE BLUE PRX IN QUARTZ VERSION AND THE AUTO I PREFER MY AIKON .
I hope they also made date less prx with 38mm case diameter.
Tissot should also release this watch in 36mm
I think 40 is a sweet spot.
@@Wakardy it would be, but real lug-to-lug is quite big
@@gimbu8096 it fits perfect on my wrist.
@@Wakardy everyone have diffrent wrist, in my opinion smaller watches always looks better than bigger and more chunky even on big wrists
@@gimbu8096 yeah, I do prefer smaller than chunky. I'll go with a 32 instead of a 50, hands down.
But 36 on my wrist looks small, I have seen that 40 is my sweet spot, 42mm is my top( although case shape matters a lot) and 38 is the smaller that I'll go for me.
I know it’s a quartz movement but this will be my next watch, perfect retro styling and size! It’s sold out so I’m waiting for the restock.
Quartz is retro and vintage in its own right. Mechanical is more like 40s-70s and quartz is more like 70s-90s. It has far more soul than smartwatch.
Wearing my blue PRX I picked up from Teddy’s shop. Love it.
Love this watch. Design to me is most similar to the Rolex Oysterquartz.
Because it is a carbon copy of an oysterquartz 17000
A great review Teddy, superb close up macro video of the watch. I completely agree that the blue dial version will (should) sell the most although the white dial version is probably worth a look. I've not been a fan of integrated bracelets but the Tissot execution on this piece is wonderful. It's a 70's inspired watch so for me anyway a quartz movement would fit well with that era. If I like the watch and can justify the purchase that's enough for me regardless of the movement. Once out of lock down I think I'd want to compare the blue with the white dial versions.
The only Tissot model that got my attention lately. I am swapping my Patek Philippe Aquanaut (imaginary) for this one.
To me it reminds me of Timex more than anything else.
Looks indeed like the timex q
Tissot is moving upmarket starting with the Gentleman and this following! Cant wait for the powermatic 80 variant.
This is a beautiful, accurate timepiece. Don't think you can ask for much more.
And real question auto version of this or the gentleman 🧐
A very tough call. Odd lug width versus an integrated bracelet. Two awful “features” Swatch felt the need to include.
@@Mister_Phafanapolis I kinda like the integrated bracelet look
I snatched the PRX and got the Gentleman quartz as well. Its also a hard call, but I did a comparison video to show off them side by side.
It looks so much like the Rolex Oysterquartz, Would love to see a hands on comparison video.
Just about to post this exact comment 😀. Totally an Oysterquartz.
100% copied
The comparison video would be great if this PRX was in a 36mm version
Love this watch! Bought from your store and it shipped and arrived on time. Great customer service. Thanks!
Saw it today, it is an amazing watch for its price! So 70s design but still modern in its own way! The bracelet is amazing and very comfortable!Good job Tissot and thanks for the video review Teddy!
Love this watch. Got it two weeks ago and have been wearing it a lot.
Are you wearing now? I need some help. I want to buy but I need your idea.
just copped the blue. fucking sleek as hell I love it
Great looking watch. 38mm would be even better
ill get one then maybe 37
I hope the automatic versions at least have the same size.
@kitch wrist size?
The Crystal/dial is actually smaller than the case size of 40mm... so it wears smaller
I just got the blue PRX quartz in 40mm and I absolutely love it!!! The bracelet is damn near perfect and the blue dial is gorgeous. The vintage looks, amazing build quality and affordable pricepoint really make this watch a no brainer for most.
Hey, could you give me an update on how the watch is holding up, I'm also considering getting one.
@@1s091 its still amazing. I highly recommend it
Now that I have 2 automatic watches I think they are slightly overrated. This could be my next watch!
Super similar to the rolex oysterquartz 17000
Just picked up one of these in Mint at my local jewelry store for $335.75. Unbelievable deal. I want one in every color now.
I really like it's a better price option, I would like a automatic but being a quartz I don't feel as guilty picking one up
They will release an automatic one
I like it. It reminds me of the Oysterquartz.
Exactly what i was going to say 😘 ... This PRX are really fine homage to Oysterquartz...difference is case diameter and no cyclops...but hey...its Swiss made...and it comes from a reputable brand too...and i love it...planning to get one of these soon 😋😋
I have one of these in the black dial. I have to say, it is very accurate and my watch's seconds hand hits the mark. If you want one that does the same I recommend to 1) keep reading as much as you can about this watch so that when you buy it you know what you're getting. 2) (and perhaps the most important) buy the watch in person. When I went to Macy's for this watch, I already did #1 and went to the display and watched the watch. Literally for like 20 minutes to observe the second hand. I was ready to buy it with the flaw that second hand misses the mark, but this particular item had a flawless movement. I ask for that exact watch to be sold to me and it just so happened to be the only one anyways since the store had a hard time maintaining them in stock. That said, almost all of the videos I've seen about this watch mention the flaw but I will say that there might be some items out there with a flawless movement. I've had it over a month now and it's only off +/- 1 second.
I do not need another watch in my life but this is so tempting! I really like the silver dial with gold hands.
DO IT!
There’s no question why they sell the heck out of these. Great everyman watch
I was going to purchase this watch off the tissot website but you are one of my favorite watch people on youtube so I will be purchasing this watch on your website within the next 2 months
For the money I say it’s a winner. Looks classy and crisp detail. I like it.
First thing I thought of was Rolex Oysterquartz!
OMG. I swear I thought it was a VC OVERSEAS!!!
I watched your Gentleman Powermatic 80 video... and bought it. Don’t do this to me again.... I’m just a humble man.
I bought a Tissot Gentleman a few months before he featured it in his video, and probably mentioned a few times in comments that he liked that it became my favorite everyday wear watch. Sorry if I had anything to do with that spontaneous purchase.
Nice video presentation on the Tissot PRX 40 205 Quartz in purchase in 2020 right when it came out 3 years later dec 23 2023 on my 7.5 inch wrist feel like butter on the wrist the bracelet and dial are top notch highly recommend. Just purchased the Tissot PRX Blue Rubber oem for $60 can't wait to swap bracelet. this reminds me of a Rolex Oyster Quartz . always get compliments.❤
the blue dial is beautiful and went with the blue dial.
Teddy you're looking sharp my friend.
Thanks Joe!
1. Buy the watch.
2. Figure out what automatic movement fits the case and blue dial.
3. Find an exhibition caseback
4. Redo the brushed finish to a better level.
Funnily enough, I was most impressed by the brushed finishing when I tried it on wrist. Seriously impressed.
@@simonbailey2151 To be a bit more clear, a higher end watch has a more satin like finish. You've seen people polish their Rolex watches with a green scotchbrite pad. When the pad is new, the grain is larger then when the pad is old. The larger grain looks more sporty and the finer grain looks more elegant. The larger grain reflects less light and the finer grain reflects more light. You can go to a larger grain, leave it and use Nevr Dull polishing cotton to achieve the level of reflection you want.
So I've had many Omegas and the grain didn't always match. I refinish cases and bracelets as a hobby. I have done a Seamaster with large grain that made the bracelet look almost gray and really contrast the polished links as a friends request. I also have many Seiko 5 watches with a finish that rivals the Omegas and made them look more expensive than what they actually are.
I love stainless steel as you can fix issues or play with it.
@@Todd.T That’s really interesting. I got the impression that Tissot left the brushing with a larger/wider grain as a design choice. Anyway I really liked it. Cheers!
Good review. The PRX is a dead ringer for the Oysterquartz 17000, much more so than any other Genta-inspired piece with which it has been compared. I was surprised, therefore, that Ted did not acknowledge the almost clone-like styling similarity to the OQ. I've had several OQ's over the years and, having sold my last one, I'm thinking of replacing it with this PRX. I want the look of the OQ without its price tag, and the more modern diameter of the PRX at 40mm (vs the OQ's 36mm which always feels a bit diminutive on the wrist). Certainly not suggesting that there's a fair comparison between the OQ's 5035 over-engineered, mechanical-based movement, and the PRX's ETA F06.115. At least both keep quartz-accurate time though.
Just got mine yesterday :) loving it already
Love the Gerald Genta vibes on this. Great that there is an accessible entry for those looking to honour his style and design
It's a Rolex Oyster Quartz hommage, but there is nothing at all wrong with that, it looks fantastic. My only wish is that Tissot had released a 36mm size as well. Reason being, if you're going to do a 70's - 80's throwback piece, I think you need to be faithful to the time and own all of it from the feet up. 40mm is just a bit too big for this style of watch in my opinion.
Great Video and Great looking Watch i love it. I have the PRX with the Blue Dial Quartz Version. I think for the money you get a wonderful Watch with style.👍
Just placed my order for one of these through your site. Love the watch but also love your channel and wanted to support.
Thank you for your support, Jim!
I own the black dial powermatic, love it but after almost a year, I've decided that one complaint they need to address is to enlarge the crown to a more manageable size. It's simply too small
Waiting on the automatic, this watch will be my first Tissot to add to the collection!
This Watch is a Rolex Oysterquarz killer👍
The bracelet makes it too big for a small wrist, it's a pitty. A 36-38 mm would be welcomed
Yep I suspect that’s why it was on a >7” wrist in the review and not his own.
Just eat more cheesecakes.
I have the original 1978 Seastar. It's beautifull I am going to refresh and detail the case! If I get a PRX,I will get the quartz because the original was a quartz movement!
Purchased this classic time teller !!! Loving it this blue dial is stunning !!!
Cool watch. Very similar to the Rolex oysterquartz.
Great review as always. These are every bit worth the hype. I found two new quartz versions for $260 on rubber. Bought an aftermarket OEM steel bracelet and love it
Hope they release a mechanical by the year end for the holiday season
One of the best! Loving it more and more everyday.
Shame this isn't in the 37-36mm size range as it's truly a handsome piece. It's just too big in my opinion.
No plans for a smaller unisex/women size?
I agree...it should a max 38
This would be best in a 36mm. A very affordable alternative to the Rolex Oysterquartz 17000.
Everybody doesn’t have small wrists. You guys forget that. Having a 38mm and a 42mm option is a better solution.
@@GBullockNC yes that maybe true for non-integrated bracelet watches. But smaller cases that have shorter lug to lug are much better on integrated bracelet watches. Have you ever seen Oysterquartz on wrist? This has 36mm case size. Have you seen the Royal Oak 15450ST? Check this video out in a guy with a large wrist featuring his Royal Oak 37mm 1540ST: ruclips.net/video/KRdvE6bV3i8/видео.html please also watch Chrono24’s size comparison video of the Royal Oak in 37mm and 41mm: ruclips.net/video/GFsi0zeucKk/видео.html and tell me what you think and about bling bling rapper sized watches.
Can’t wait for the automatic
If I was going to buy a wristwatch this would be it. Something that looks good and keeps accurate time would be all I care about on a watch. I actually collect pocket watches since I'm too "fidgety" to wear any kind of jewelry in my body (probably a character flaw on my part). So when I go "mechanical" (instead of quartz) a pocket watch is my "go to" instrument.
Such a fantastic release! I've seen what may or may not be a legit photo of the Powermatic 80 variant (expected this summer according to articles I read), but it had the bumps on the dial similar to a Royal Oak. If that's the case, I definitely would prefer to get the quartz. I just don't want a watch that's trying to be a Royal Oak. You're right, it's a great price range for dabbling in integrated bracelets. I am seriously weighing this one vs. the Hamilton Khaki Aviation "Cooper" as my next purchase. It's a tough call.
The sharpness is crazy nice. Great Royal oak vibes
Might be a good pick up to add to my mix of watches. Like the blue dial and I like quartz for watches I do not wear frequently. Easy to maintain as well.
Hope there a Eta 2892 version coming.
instant buy
what a beauty. So elegant.
I get more of an old Omega Constellation vibe from this. Certainly better than Timex's variant.
I watched multiple reviewer videos and in one of them noticed how seconds hand is not aligned with the minute markers.. I came back to this video and same thing here.. Now I can't unsee it 😔
Yup definitely feels more like the VC 222 like you said.
Need to show the lume; very important to see time in the dark.
Water resistant no good should have screw down crown n case back...I used to have few Tissot but only problems is the quality not up to standard. Anyway nice watch thanks.
Very nice watch! Tissot doing work to cause Quartz Crisis 2.0.
Very nice looking watch. Don’t mind the quartz at all
Waiting for the automatic version !
This watch works great with a quartz movement beyond just the price. It fits the theme of the watch and allows it to achieve the thinness it needs.
Exactly. Those who are waiting for the automatic are in for thick surprise.
Is it not possible to get it this thin with an automatic movement?
danebengeschissen : probably, but it's expensive. Look what happened to the Timex Q automatic.
I don’t like everything what they do but this one is surly a must have I think including the gentleman powermatic.
What is an integrated bracelet? I take that as meaning you can't switch out for a strap? But I see where it does have quick change for straps.
i love it feels great... wears great once sized def looking forward to more.
Good for Tissot for bringing out a Less expensive quartz watch. I just with they could get rid of the 1853.....we get it!
Amazing review! Thanks
looks like many 70s era watches that homages the Patek Nautilus and Royal Oak in that era
I got the add for the PRX on the video how fitting now let’s talk about the real elephant in the room I wish tissot made a smaller diver then 43 mm 😫
Almost went with the Seastar 1000, but I’m leaning towards the PRX now due to its versatility and that price is ridiculous. It looks more expensive.
Wow. Just found my first quartz watch!
I recently got the blue dial prx and I have to say the watch is beautiful besides the fact that the dial is off center.. personally because I look at it so often it is noticeable and a problem..
Teddy, you're truly an inspiration.
Just ordered my black face with the new rubber strap 🖤🤘🏻
Mine arrived yesterday!
Bought the silver from your site based on your review. Can’t wait to receive it.
Thank you for your support, Brian!
Perfect. I love the old Oysterquartz, but these are 1 too expensive and 2, too small for my 8" wrist. Need to pick one up asap.
This watch is great and all but I have to let everyone know that when Teddy says Vacheron Constantin at 2:24, the auto generated subtitles say "vaginal constant hand"
