This worked like a treat. This video is really well constructed and explained, that even someone like myself who is clueless about cars managed to do this. Thank you very much, this saved me a lot of money, as the garage told me I needed a new valve, even though the RAC report said it was just blocked with soot.
Fantastic video, thank you! Small tip, I found it far easier to access those 2* tricky manifold bolts by just removing the battery. Plain sailing after that!
Had my IS220d for years now, on 158k miles, this is a yearly job... i've also gutted the DPF so miles smokey in an effort for better MPG but these cars are notoriously terrible for MPG. Thanks for the video though, I done similar years ago but yours is a lot more step by step
Yes the Mpg is the worst part of these engines, my average MPG over 5 years is 34mpg, yet the same engine in my Avensis my average is 42 MPG. only thing I can think of is in the Lexus the compression ratio is lower than when they used the engines in Toyotas. You've done well doing your own DPF, think ill check out your channel.
Just bought a -08 220d with 130000km/80500 miles on the clock, been driving it for 3-4 weeks now, I’ve barley noticed that it has lost a little power day by day, but then last week it got REALLY tired, and finally the engine light came on the dashboard and it also told me to check the vsc. So, now I’ll just do this and it’ll be good to go.
Hopefully this will cure the problem. When mine went into limp home mode the VSC light also came on. If this doesnt cure the problem at least you wont need to do the egr valve clean in the future. Let me know if it works.
Just bought an 09 IS 220 almost 2 weeks ago & being that it's winter now & the crappy weather we've had the past week with non stop rain & 0 degrees or less most nights I hadn't had the opportunity to take it out until earlier. It drives great but the problem is I couldn't get any heat in the cabin so it was a task keeping the windows from steaming up. Apparently the car had a full service before I bought it & fresh MOT & a pre sale check. I drove it for 20 minutes & it was still freezing in the cabin. Am I missing something?
I would do an oil change now, just to clean out any black stuff that's in the oil. I usually just use the cheapest I can find of the fully synthetic type from Adsa. My Little Toyota Auris 1.4Ltr Diesel has 115,000 Miles on the clock and has never had the EGR valve cleaned. I usually try to give it a blast up the motorway at least once a month to keep the EGR and DPF a bit cleaner. That's a lovely looking Lexus 😍, I wonder how long you have had it and what you paid ?. I bought my Little Toyota Auris 2013 about 18 months ago for £3300 it's crazy there now selling for around £5K to £6K for the same model and with more miles on than mine.😊
Thanks for your tip Stephen. Sounds like your Auris is running well. I've had it since 2017, been in the family since 2014. I think getting the alloys refurbed made a difference to the appearance, Lexus charged £80 per corner.
Cleaned mine, I read on a post that you should run them back in so it re programmed , it’s still a bit Smokey so I’m going to blast it up the A19 what do you think.
I’ve tried this and it worked well, thank you for such a helpful video. However, the intake to the engine still look filthy and I’m not sure how to get that but cleaned. Also the car has a smell when l I have egr issue, is this normal?
Mine is 15years old, 50,000 miles Lexus says from what I told them WGR valve wants cleaning. how much should I expect to pay via a good mechanic, Lexus roughly quoted £1200, which aint gonna happen. Problems are poor MPG & oscillating idle when cold between 800 to 1200rpm. Thank you.
£1200 is a lot, I think it took me a few hours to clean mine that included setting the cameras up, however it did get fiddly removing the bolts from the bulk head end, I dropped one and it took ages to recover. But if you like getting your hands dirty and you are patient you should give it ago yourself.
@@amateurtorque6709 Yes you are right £1200 is a lot, especially as it is a manufacterers fault. Which I am completely sure they know about. Heater on - 1200rpm, heater off 800 rpm. Hence using inordinate amounts of fuel on small journeys. I would have spent the £1200 & had the same problem. Thank you for your response.
Take it to a local small workshop with a good reputation they will charge 1 hour labour approximately 60 pounds for a honest garage job done the electronic part of the valves should be fine as Lexus electronics is pretty good the mechanical part of the part gets very dirty hence needing a clean the egr valve itself costs over £250 I recommend you find a local experienced mechanic and stay away from Lexus they will rip you ass off
@@Aracneus21 400 euros Lexus IS still slapping your ass it’s a 1 hour dirty valve clean up job it actually does not need replacing 9/10 times it’s a emission device which your car actually does not even really need , diesel is a dirty fuel they say so they are digging the shit out of earth for lithium polladium platinum rhodium to make electric cars and cat convertor exhausts like it’s really gonna help in the long run everything’s designed to rip you off

Oh wow, DO NOT DO IT LIKE THAT. Be patient and of common sense, please. Remove the concealed back half. Then at least just soak in paraffin overnight. Don't scrape at it with a screwie FFS. If you can't figure out wind noise on ya video then I ain't going there bro. 😂😂😮

Thanks for the tip Derek, I will try that soon, its time I cleaned it out again.
Very informative video, satisfying seeing how much you cleared out.
Was laughing at the toothbrush comment 🤣
I gave the toothbrush a clean before I put it back in her holder

They get you around 30mpg around the town which is not bad

Thanks for the video bro. Gonna clean mine next few days.
Hope you get on ok, don't drop the bolt down the engine like I did 🤦♂

@@amateurtorque6709 worked out real nice, but the next time I’ll get an autoclave/ultra sound washer. Just detach the solenoid first.

I haven't heard of the re programming, however once the engine is up to operating temperature a good blast in a high gear is good for any diesel.

I tried to do this, but now I get a warning VSC. Please, do you know how to reset this warning?
I had a VSC warning when it went into limp home mode, due to the blocked EGR, but once reset, it did not come on again.
