I had one of these, drove it for 12 years without it skipping a beat, I gave it to my brother after I bought a newer car that had better safety, it is going strong. I had a few rattles due to aging rubbers in the window seals, but other than that it has been great!
I purchased one as my first car which was written off only a year after buying it due to a bad hail storm, so I purchased a second. It's now been 6 years and 80,000kms of trouble free ownership. Yes it has a sticky dash when it gets hot and the passenger side mirror no longer adjusts but for a car that has over 230,000kms it drives perfectly, even after the abuse a p plater gives it. I have serviced the car every 7,500kms by myself and have not had to spend money on anything that isn't a consumable. A 10/10 car in my opinion, especially for a first car owner that wants something nice and comfortable.
My family had a Lexus 2009 IS300 RWD from 2010 till 2020 Full option with ML sound system and…… This car was a dream to own Fast Luxury and reliable when we bought this car is was in second grade and we had it till when i was 17. Our car had about 350k kilometer on the dash. After the 300k kilometer mark the issues start to rise like transmission cooling problem , lights and ECU engine over heating and…… but if my father didn’t just said this is a Toyota and would have actually taken care of that car I think we would have it till now. If you are planning to buy this car go for it but be careful the rear seat space is really small if your are taller than 175 you are going to get sick sitting in the rear seats. It was so good that I’m looking for a convertible for myself
Here in Uganda we have a Japanese import called the Toyota Mark X. It's a sister car with same exact engine and transmission. 4GR-FSE. VERY VERY Great to own. Mine is hitting 240,000km and still starts and drives like a dream. Great work Toyota/Lexus
See a lot of Mark Xs here in NZ too. Seem to be a favourite with car enthusiasts who mod them. Some look like oddly over capitalized muscle cars, but can look amazing with tasteful mods.
My neighbours bought one of these brand new & it was meticulously looked after. They had just retired & wanted a decent sedan without buying a Falcon or a Commodore. Nothing ever went wrong with it. It was pretty common for retirees to buy them. These days retirees buy those crappy Chinese MG's. The lexus is so reliable & if you are in the market to buy a reliable sedan, look no further.
As a previous owner of this I can clearly say that it is a PHENOMENAL CAR (it was my first car after all). I did always say it could've done with more power and torque for the 2.5 V6 because of all that weight it was carrying around, I still do miss mine but I'm glad I experienced one, and I agree that the Auto was better because mine was also Manual and I could tell that it wasn't communicating as well as the Auto I once tested out. In summary it's a great car to buy whether it's your 1st or 2nd because it will always work when you need it.
I've been driving a 2011 model, now at 256k km. Issues experienced: the automatic transmission seal started leaking at 180k km's, then gave in at 250k km's - which is unusual, which is why it wasn't picked up by the dealership. The only other problem I ever had was a failing boot mechanism at 240k km. I did renew the front shocks at 240k km due to the many, many potholes in South Africa. Parts can be expensive but are generally of a much higher quality than aftermarket alternatives. My model shows way less wear and tear than the one in the video, almost like new. No sticky dashboard (get a later model), no scratches on knobs, the leather is in good shape. An absolute pleasure to drive: smooth, silent, powerful, sporty yet comfortable, great sound system. Leg room is too little for passengers in the back. Average fuel consumption: 8.4ltrs/100km. I highly recommend this car: by far the best value for money available on the market. I just got offered more than what I paid for it 125k km earlier, but I'm hesitant to let go of it.
I was gutted by mine. I was so unlucky when i got my used one. I got a super rare problem with the gearbox that revealed itself after my car went limp mode and refused to change to gears 3 and 4. I spent so much time and money trying to find the problem and finally i got a mechanic who was capable enough to diagnose the problem. Even though the vehicle was in spot on when i had bought it the previous owner had not moved the car at all for years. The gearbox fluid became sticky and dried and that caused "chunks" to go in several places that basically destroyed the gearbox. Even a fluid flush and exchange was not enough to fix the problem. At the end of it all it required a completely new gear box but the mechanic who diagnosed it advised against it as the sticky gear box bits could be a sign of a similar problem with other fluids in the vehicle. After the whole ordeal i had to accept that i had literally lost a good 6K GBP down the drainer and part exchanged the vehicle for just 500 BPB. Yes, i could have taken away all the additions and sold them separately (like the completely new tires) to get myself more money and reduce the loss but by that time i was so starved for a car to go in and out of work plus the burnout of the whole ordeal that i simply decided to fully cut ties and start anew.
Good review, just a minor point, I think you’ll find that plastic sheet in the boot kit is not a dash cover but a ground sheet for when you have to change a tyre roadside. Ols SAABs had them.
I will admit the manual is a bit sloppy but it still gives the car more character especially with the right exhaust set up like mines. Currently on 256k miles and still running strong 💪🏼
Appreciate the 'paying the bills' bar at the bottom, and that you keep it brief. It makes things feel more authentic so it feels easier to pay attention. Also, thanks for what you are producing. Top notch.
sticky dash was 2005 -2008 problem for this gen. If looking for one of these, buy the 2009 update model or try and find one that had the dash and door cards replaced under a lexus customer satisfaction program. This was not a recall, but a few owners took advantage of it. I bought one where all these were replaced circa 2014, they look brand new and were sourced from the 2009 upgrade model I believe.
There is actually a product called ”sticky dash fix kit” I used this for 1st gen IS. Works quite well and is cheap. Of course takes a bit of time to do but its not that bad.
did you buy it at 295000 kms? No repairs, really. No water pump or alternator? No oil leaks, valve cover gasket etc, no drive shafts either, thats incredible if you bought it new, amazing even!
I've owned a 2009 Lexus Gs300 and it was one of the most reliable vehicles I've owned. Had around 300000kms and everything worked perfect. No mechanical Or electrical issues. Very decent fuel economy. All you need is a Lexus specialist to service and maintain the vehicle, which is a bit costly but we'll worth it in the long run.
Idk why everyone cries about leg room, as a guy you won't be sitting with your legs closed anyways, it's not comfortable. I'm 6'2 and have enough space in the back. It's a sports sedan, it doesn't have to be luxurious or super comfy, want comfort buy a GS or LS Also why do you need interior light at day 😆
I've had a 2012 for 6 years. I put almost 200,000 kms on it. I had zero issues until a drunk driver drove into it on my driveway. WAs a great car. 10 years old and I would have got another 10 years.
I owned 2008 IS300 for 4 years. The car drives and feels fantastic but in my case had many issues. - Around 70km/h there was loud noise from rear differential. And had to change completely (used one). - AC and compressor is failed. Had to change radiator and compressor. - Steering wheel making some noise. Fixed by someone who had good experience in this kind of issues. Otherwise, costly too. - Back passenger door cover is literally melted and break off by nail very easily. Unbelievable. - Passenger airbag light issue. Sometimes goes off but the issue is there. - High consumption. In my country 92 petrol is very poor quality. I had to use 95. And my mixed consumption (mainly city) was 13.5L/100km. - The color was pearl white. And very hard to get parts perfectly painted with no difference to other parts. If these are not common problems then good used car to drive. Do not buy a car which is not driven and maintained well enough. Parts are very expensive.
I just got myself a 2012 IS250 F Sport, fully stock, with 190k original miles. I got it for a steal at $4k, owner to owner. The only issues are the sticky dash, which isn't too bad, and a broken fog light and bumper from a minor parking post incident by the previous owner. But this thing runs like a dream and sounds incredible! It's got the F Sport exhaust tips, carbon fiber engine cover, and F Sport air intake, all factory-installed. These ISx50s are seriously one of the most reliable and good-looking cars out there. In my opinion.
My brother has one and it's been faultless. Needs a rev to move and it has the "sticky" dash, but nonetheless brilliant all round. Does lack torque compared to a Aurion V6 of the same era. Turn in and chassis balance is excellent considering the ride quality.
@@phodacbitch I don't know what the fuck you think you read but the guy I replied to is claiming he wants more torque and gets it from the Aurion at the cost of the Aurion being fwd. I have no idea what you think you're trying to say.
I own the 2012 facelift is 350 for the past 5 years now, not a single mechanical failures apart from changing the battery, keep up with all the service intervals and do a transmission drain and fill, these cars will run for a long time, I also put michelin pilot 5 tires and it handles really well
The only 1 issue with the 4GR engine is the carbon build up which is pretty common for direct injection only engine. It is a bit hassle to do decarbonization. Rev it up once in a while or add an oil catch can to minimize it.
I was somewhat disappointed to see such a rough example of the IS250 in the review. I have owned the convertible variant (IS250c) for the past 6 months and it is definitely the best hard-top all rounder. Currently it’s at 102k kms. Super smooth engine, gearbox and roof mechanism. Luckily I have the top-of-the-range 2009 Sports Luxury which has all the toys including adaptive cruise, ML sound system and everything auto. One issue which has been bothering me is the Excessive Sulfur odour on accelration. It was addressed in a Lexus bulletin in 2006 however, I am not sure how to resolve the issue. Most likely related to exhaust system and cats.
I'd like to get one of these for my daughter, but they are EXPENSIVE!! I have an IS350 Sports Luxury sedan (2012), My daughter has been driving for a couple of years and has my old Honda Accord, I think the IS250C is a beauty. On the sulfur smell on hard acceleration bursts, I have that too. I got my mechanic to check it out on his computer and everything was showing fine.
@@KnightIndustries572 that's good to hear on the sulfur note. I suppose would need to live with it. Where are you based? I'm sure she will love the 250c. It's my first car that I purchased.
In the US, the dashboard and door panels had a recall over the material degrading. I do like the simple layout of the infotainment system, and they're pretty comfortable for long trips. A friend of mine has a 2009 model and we've done a LOT to it from chassis bracing, to big brake kit, to coilovers, and more. I'm the shortest friend he has and I fit comfortably in the back. The font: I feel like I'm not sinking into the seats so I feel like I'm too high up. We had an interesting setup with him in that and me in a 2006 S60 T5. We nearly had the same kit minus the satnav on my car, but his came with almost all the options (no front parking sensors). If I were to do it again, I'd have probably gotten a GS430 or GS350. Shockingly he got better mileage than me all the time. My S60 would average about 25mpg(9.5l/100km), his IS350 always averages about 29mpg(8.5l/100km). Talking about the amp getting fried, that happened to his one day, but he ordered one for an IS200d that was an exact match. Overall, it's an awesome car.
Brilliant car to drive and own, had our (Auto) bought new since 2006 and it is still going strong and drives like new with 165,000 miles on the clock. It is also relatively easy to maintain if you have some DIY mechanic skills. Compared to a couple of unreliable and difficult to maintain German cars we had previously it is an absolute joy.
In Europe they never sold the IS350, so we stuck with the IS250. I own an IS250 F-Sport and an IS-F, both are 2010 models, both have over 200.000km on the clock. Both, look and drive like new. I went through a BMW phase for 15 years and the last 5 years I'm back to my Japanese cars. If you look after Lexus, it is troublefree motoring, unlike BMW or Mercedes.
Hi team, I’m a subscriber from New Zealand, I thank you for your videos, so many car people out there doing reviews, your much better you always cover the base on everything that’s important. My company car is a Cupra formentor VZ which I simply adore, but it’s not mine, and I know eventually I will need to buy my own car. Not having a high budget, your reviews are making easier choices for me . I have rheumatoid arthritis, and my hands are badly bent, most cars I can’t change gear on an auto stick shift. My Cupra is a small lever which is easy to move, my previous company car was a Mercedes-Benz and it had stick column change. Anyway, keep up the good work, I like the bloopers.
Great review guys , been waiting on this one - lovely car! Seriously considering buying one in Ireland. Only draw back is road tax 1080euro per year. Keep up great work 💪
Just purchased one for my soon to be 15 yr old daughter. She absolutely loves this car. It’s compact and sleek. Vehicle has 126k miles. I drive it now until she gets license. It’s actually my first Lexus ever. I have to say I’m curious why I never purchased a Lexus before
Mine is a 2010 IS250 sport luxury. Can’t fault it to date. Only repair was a wheel bearing. Everything else just services and tyres. Unfortunately the leather upholstery has cracked. My fault probably for not keeping it nourished. Has all the bells and whistles and I just love it.
Bought a 2007 model with 175000kms in 2020 for $8700 (private market before price explosion). It was one owner in great condition with 100% Lexus service history. The only mechanical failure in its history was the water pump at 146000kms. We've since done another 55000kms and have had to replace the fuel pump at 182000kms ($860), all 4 shocks at 190000kms ($2100), and the alternator at 210000kms ($2450). With these repairs the yearly maintenance is averaging out at $3100 per year, including tyres, with all work done at Lexus. Not too bad for what it is, and honestly it remains tight and beautiful to drive.
Water pump isn't a mechanical failure at that mileage, just due for replacement. The fuel pump ~200, coilovers ~1000, alternator ~400, those are some insane dealership prices you paid for those repairs.
@@gavinr9107 Coilovers...really? It's a luxury car mate not an esky lid. Maybe for some moron juvenile wanting to slam his car but I'll stick with the OEM ride.
I recently picked up an automatic 2009 IS350 and I love it. It needs a bit of work but that is what you expect from an affordable car. I really love driving it, it feels so stable at speed and goes like stink. I am happy with my purchase for sure. Thanks for sharing.
I was drinking my morning coffee and only listening casually when I heard the manual transmission referred to as the "MILLENNIAL ANTI-THEFT DEVICE" I inadvertently started laughing and almost choked to death!
I owned a Lexus xe10, it was hit by a reckless driver and written off. I lost the car for a few years now but I still feel the car is there. I now and then go into the illusion that I still own it and it still sitting in the garage. That’s how good the car is. Unforgettable
Due to this review I purchased a 2007 Japanese Import IS350 one owner with 90k. Now apparently what I have wasn't available in Australia, the import papers, registration papers and insurance, according to the VIN state its an ISF350. Its obviously not a V8 and does'nt have the "F" badges but is an ISF. I bought it as a daily but its immaculate accept for the sticky dash and door trims but Im sorting that, so its now my toy car. Awesome review on an awesome car.
I had one of these as a Longterm loan car and it had done 230,000 kms, i didn’t want to give it back I loved it, my only dislikeswere the unusable back seat, my new kia rio has more leg room and the fact it was mechanically totalled (it needed new Cat converters), the Mark Levinson sound system is still batter then most new sound systems made today, and as for the infotainment it isn’t that easy to change and it is eye wateringly expensive to do so, you can fit a stereo under the screen (in place of the cd changer) there is a company in Japan called Kanarechs that does kits but you have to be specific as they year and trim can change the plugs in behind the radio
I had an 2006 is350 with 50,000kms on the clock about 8 years ago. It was a great but also terrible car. The engine, transmission and how it handled was really great. The dash was a huge disappointment, you couldn't even clean it because it was a sticky mess. Because the ride was so quiet you could hear every rattle and squeak in the interior....and there was many of these! Also one of the speakers in the drivers door shorted out which made quite a bit of smoke come out through the top of the door card.
The 6 speed is250 is not a good buy. Get the 350 or at worst, the automatic 250. The manual trans is pulled right out of the Tacoma and gearing is horrendous for a V6 sedan The dual mass flywheel causes really bad rev hang. You have to brake between downshifts.... 4grfse has carbon buildup and piston ring issues The dash and door panels melt no matter what you do. Even if you spend money on new ones and clean them + use a sunshade and tint your windows they will inevitably melt again. It's a finicky car for Toyota standards. If you really want a manual, get an altezza/is300 or a Honda
Thank you for yet some more extremely useful insights. One thing that I noticed is that the referred actor’s name is actually Idris Elba so the initials would be IE instead of IS 😅 Also can you review a Nissan/Skyline/Infinity G35/350GT/V36 whatever they’re called here. Basically I mean the 4 door luxury cousin of the 350/370 Z
I didn’t consider the Lexus when looking in this class because there’s no wagon. I got an A4 Avant. Yes, they have questionable water pumps, but I’ll handle that if I need to.
I love my baby Is! So glad I bought it and it has been such a breeze doing basic maintenance and even some more tedious work. I would recommend it to anyone buying a older luxury vehicle
There is a recall for the sticky dash. I live in Texas, didn't buy it new. Was on the wait list for two ish years (I knew it would take time), but eventually they replaced the entire plastic interior for free and it feels like a new car inside!
You're dead right about the manual box. This is one of those cars that you get genuinely excited when you learn that they actually made it in a manual. But then you actually drive it and you not only wish they hadn't bothered, but that you'd never driven it. Such a disappointment.
One of my biggest regrets was not buying a Lexus IS350 over a decade ago when I purchased my then new 2008 Acura TSX. Everyone on Car And Driver and Motor Trend was gushing over the TSX while simultaneously shitting on the IS and talking about how it WASN’T a BMW 3 Series. After 8 years of owning the underpowered and high strung TSX, I learned a valuable lesson on listening to automotive reviewers. Go out a drive these cars yourself. The IS has proven to be CLEARLY the best car in its class at the time and it’s not even close.
Bro, I sold my 09 tsx for a 14 is350. I will always love my TSX as it will go down as one of my favorite cars I ever owned because it was reliable and decent on gas, but the is350 is a different animal man. If you can find yourself a used is350, go for it.
You missed the one main, and huge, issue - the earlier models of IS250 (not 350) had massive carbon buildup problems. In 2017, Lexus rebuild my 07 engine at 130k, and in 2018 at 140k, the transmission grenaded.
I had the is250 for a few years. Burning oil and weak alternator had to be replaced. My GS350 also had a new alternator at 180k kms. Their older models often came with weaker alternators. I thinks many 2.5 V6's from toyota burns oil if not taken care of, like longer maintenance intervals etc. The 3.5 V6s are much better IMO, similar fuel consumption and much more power. My friend's Toyota Wish had replaced 4 alternators, that is the most extreme example I've ever heard. IS rides better than GS. IS's ride is like a tiger on the ground, very stable strait and corners, gear box is very smooth and responsive. The overall feel of the IS is very close to 2021 Toyota Corolla ZR. GS on the other hand is softer, more body roll, feels heavier. Long journey GS will be more comfortable, and more than enough HP when overtaking. Both are excellent cars. A few months before I sold my GS a guy rear-ended it. His front bumper was completely broken and the radiator was twisted. My GS? just a tiny scratch no bigger than half of my fingernail. AWWSOMEEEE>>>>>>>
Top tip, if you're a stickler for factory service parts. Order the Toyota parts. Because the Lexus parts are the same. Paying around 30% more for the Lexus package 📦...😉
Amazing review guys. I've had an 08 IS 250 for almost 3 years now. I'm amazed at how spot on you were with the details. I've had one of my headlights go off mid drive several times, also lost my amplifier due to the water leakage, and had the oil leak from the gasket. Although I've noticed the sticky dash, it never bothered me as much. The one thing I've never heard anyone else say is that it doesn't handle potholes very well. However if your roads are perfect, chances are you'll love this car. Sometimes my eyes almost tear up looking at how beautiful it is and I ask myself: Is this really mine? 🥲
Regarding the Audio, mine is an import and I wanted to keep the quirky Japanese features and dash. I purchased a Crown Focus audio upgrade kit and I had it fitted. Bloody sensational.
A millenial I know bought a 250 XS I think it was called. Manual 6 cyl anyway, can’t recall the year of birth. He and his dad couldn’t believe how hard it was to get moving from a standstill. Couldn’t engage the clutch and accelerate because it would stall, so a big rev then engage the clutch was the only way to get around it. Lack of tourque? Yet a 149 Holden motor would roll away from the lights with the clutch engaged
I would probably buy a gs or es Lexus as you get a lot more luxury for similar money. If you haven’t already done a review of an ES350, please please do one if you can. Love the channel
These are so so good for what they offer. Most BMWs you see from the same era are on palliative care. Ie major engine and transmission issues, failed shocks and melting interior trims
few notes: sticky dashboards gone by 2009 or if 2008 and earlier hopefully someone replaced the dash (and door cards)... 3.5L only comes in Auto... 2.5L comes in auto or manual... 3.5L is the one, it gets nearly the same fuel consumption and it's much quicker...
The engines are reliable, but that interior is horribly boring. The manual is weak on that car, and it isn't fun to drive. But it's overall a good car. But hey let's be honest, bragging about engine reliability is like bragging about your wife being punctual.
As much as the 2nd IS looks good I'm more tempted by the Toyota Crown and Possibly the even the Mitsubishi Dignity/Proudia or Nissan President. The dash seems like a massive safety issue if they start reflecting glare back at you when they get shiny. Hullsy made me laugh with the millennial anti theft device line as it was priceless. Also massive congrats guys on hitting the 200k subscribers mark🎉. Now hopefully you'll hit the 300k mark before the end of the year. Brilliant video guys and as per usual keep up the good work and look forward to next week's videos 👍.
Sticky Dash only affects very early cars, my 2012 has none of this. The IS is a smaller car< if you want big car/big comfort something like the Crown is for you, but if you want something alot sportier, then it's the IS.
I own a 2007 Lexus IS 250. It is the finest automobile have ever owned, and I am 70 years old. It has 200,00 miles on it. No rattles or squeeks. Drives likr a dream.
I bought one last October at 312k kilometers, the interior has been kept a lot better than this, the the front seats are in great conditions, a bit better than these id say, and there are some small chips on the door handles plastic and on the dash around the infotainment system but no melting and shine, the mechanical side its been well maintained, the headlights and taillights have been swapped out for the vland ones and theyre nice, overall my experience with the car has been nothing but good, they do use a lot of fuel, just like mentioned on this video about a bit over 13 liters per 100km, but if you drive it normally with the occasional step on the gas in town, and the weather outside is about 15-20C which is not cold but not hot either, my fuel consumption has dropped to less than 12 liters per 100km, i should add i live in europe and i always use 95 octane with additives (the more expensive 95 fuel) or 100 octane
I own a bmw 2012 335i xdrive and a 2is manual. The 2is is bulletproof even when running poorly. Simple things that would Brick my BMW aren’t a problem for the Lexus. It still needs some work but it’s far more reliable it seems
I have a 2012 IS350 Sports Luxury in red (vermillion) with beige leather interior and it looks way more premium inside (and out) than contemporary MB's, Audi's and BMW's of the time IMO. The car in this video had the black interior , after market shifter and was in average condition, my car is mint (no sticky dash), has the upgraded front bumper and headlights with integrated LED's. It gets compliments where-ever I go as it lives in my garage (I work from home) and it's regulalrly detailed. It's really a beautiful design, especially with the staggered 18-inch wheels. My friends describe my car as a daily driven show car.
My biggest issue with this car is if you want to modify the exhaust you need a tune to keep the cel off, oxygen sensor spacers do not work for this car
Can you do an episode on cars that get driven short distances, what would last with this tiny heat cycle. Wife drives less than one kilometer to work and home 8 hours later. Always has alternator and battery problems. Would a battery hybrid be an option ?
Thank you very much for this particular review!!! I've been wondering why IS 2nd gen review is not there yet and glad it's finally here. I've been doing research for a used IS350C 2010 model for months now and this video certainly helps to clear out some of my concerns Ps: any IS350C here wanna share their experience with their cars? Thanks!
With a budget of 10K AUD, which would be the better buy for me as my first car? 3rd gen Lexus GS 300 or the 2nd gen Lexus IS250? Which is more reliable? I seem to have lost myself in this huge dilemma and I need an answer please. Preferably I wamt the most reliable one out of these two, what would you suggest?
One very true thing is that since im 6'4 I do have to move the driver seat all the way back and while sitting in the back behind the driver seat...there is like 2 inches of legroom. Its not great...
Very informative, as always. As a 2017 GSF owner, it's interesting to see how older Lexus models age, as being a V8 fan, I plan to hang onto the GSF for a long time yet. Just one inaccuracy in the Vid... the actor's initials aren't IS for Idris Selba.... they are IE for Idris Elba. Thought I'd better alert you in case you get sued! 😂
nah, just do the cardinal sin and get the tractor edition: the 220d :) Only thing that one does better than the 250 is the torque (400Nm). (Do NOT actually consider an is220d, they re notorious for issues if you don t do lots of highway miles or if you generally like to choke it in the city.)
288,000km @ 17yrs old… bet it never had a cent spent on it, other than standard oil changes! Might not be anywhere near as exciting as the Germans’s, in fit/finish, power, quality, materials, driving dynamics etc… but anxiety is overrated anyway!😝
270xxx miles, and all that messed up was that my water pump went out at 230xxx miles, and that the heat shield for the muffler collected water and rusted out the pipes.
I had one of these, drove it for 12 years without it skipping a beat, I gave it to my brother after I bought a newer car that had better safety, it is going strong. I had a few rattles due to aging rubbers in the window seals, but other than that it has been great!
Just sold one to a young driver. Only had 105k on it and he has got himself an amazing car.
LEXUS!
Respect man, turning 18 soon just got one for $11k cash and 88k miles! Hoping it turns out to be worth it in the long run!
Nice, I wonder if he is going to drift it😈💯
Great cars. I’ve had my 2012 for 6 years now and I’ve only had to change the battery during lockdown. Still puts a smile on my face
Most underrated line of this episode “the millennial anti-theft device, aka manual transmission” 😂😂
I felt good of myself after failing my driving exam i felt empowered 😂😂😂😂
I feel seen.
You’ve forgotten about the “OnlyFans style leg spread” like 💀
Most millennials in Asia and Europe can drive manual 😂

Sold my 2006 2IS last year. Recommend 100%. It was in much better condition than the one shown. Besides the alternator, it was nearly faultless.

This car was a dream to own Fast Luxury and reliable when we bought this car is was in second grade and we had it till when i was 17.
Ooohh......Mark X na Hii Lexus used the same engine..nice
@@tonymwangi7632 that's 🇰🇪 kenya right???
Owning a MarkX 2nd generation.. same drive train and platform as the IS, but way larger interior space on par with Camry.
@@eugp4198 yes. Surely much more space on the interior. More refined ride quality
Top notch.
Thanks heaps mate! Glad you’re enjoying the content
sticky dash was 2005 -2008 problem for this gen.
Exactly, the sticky dash pudding issue was a big no go for me, so I'll be looking for an '09 onwards for sure.
@@TheGrifCannon00 it was a mess and not acceptable. The 2009 also got a few nice updates as well, so well worth a look.
There is actually a product called ”sticky dash fix kit” I used this for 1st gen IS. Works quite well and is cheap. Of course takes a bit of time to do but its not that bad.
Many fixed sticky dash issues in heaps of other cars with lacquer thinner.
It's definitely an issue for the later models as well. I have a 2012 that is melting now, I've thrown a cheap dashmat on it to cover the problem.
I had a 2010, is250 and drove it until 320'000km without any repairs except one brake caliper replacement. Absolutely love this car.
did you buy it at 295000 kms? No repairs, really. No water pump or alternator? No oil leaks, valve cover gasket etc, no drive shafts either, thats incredible if you bought it new, amazing even!
@@bb-qk8mp Me too, had the car for 5 years and only thing I changed last week was one of my caliper that seized after 250k km

You don't need a lexus specialist lol. Any good mechanic can service a lexus.
Idk why everyone cries about leg room, as a guy you won't be sitting with your legs closed anyways, it's not comfortable. I'm 6'2 and have enough space in the back.
It's a sports sedan, it doesn't have to be luxurious or super comfy, want comfort buy a GS or LS
Also why do you need interior light at day 😆
I've had a 2012 for 6 years.
Sounds like your diff oil was never changed. The AC failure isn't common, you should have been using 98 RON fuel...
@@gavinr9107 probably.

I thought the sticky dash was only on the early models?
My brother has one and it's been faultless. Needs a rev to move and it has the "sticky" dash, but nonetheless brilliant all round. Does lack torque compared to a Aurion V6 of the same era. Turn in and chassis balance is excellent considering the ride quality.
Tell your brother to try cleaning the sticky dash with some lacquer thinner. Might help if not too sticky.
I can ot imagine wanting more torque and being willing to sacrifice RWD for it....
@@bartandaelus359 bro... is350 has more torque and is rwd. The fuk?
@@phodacbitch I don't know what the fuck you think you read but the guy I replied to is claiming he wants more torque and gets it from the Aurion at the cost of the Aurion being fwd.
I have no idea what you think you're trying to say.
I would and did buy one of these with a manual 😁
Top tip: get a differential out of an 86/BRZ for a cheap LSD and slightly shorter final drive ratio.
@commendatore2516 Yeah, use fully synthetic oil. I have a 2013 and it uses 0w-20 and the valves are pretty good for 230k
@commendatore2516 A good gas additive like chevron or sea foam help out a lot too

The thing is, euro competition has a touring body type, which is crazy popular in Europe.
Always opt IS350 as that has a more reliable engine using direct and multi injection. IS250 has just direct injection and subject to carbon buildup
I own one. I love it. Fuel economy is poor though if you drive mainly city traffic.

2450 for an alternator is an absolute robbery
Why go to Lexus???
@@brent1835 I wonder is he had something else done. This usually costs circa $1300
Nice Review. Is there any chance you will be doing a video on the post 2013 LS460?
I was drinking my morning coffee and only listening casually when I heard the manual transmission referred to as the "MILLENNIAL ANTI-THEFT DEVICE" I inadvertently started laughing and almost choked to death!
Sticky dashboard is common to the ACV40R Camry of the same year range as well.
I’ve been looking at this car because it’s a Lexus for so cheap. Thanks for the review.
Perfect first car, mine only cost me $11k (135,000 km) gladly take it over any euro the same age or falcon/commodore
Got an IS250 for 4years, in manual. It's really a great car. So many mods available to refresh it !
The 6 speed is250 is not a good buy. Get the 350 or at worst, the automatic 250.
The manual trans is pulled right out of the Tacoma and gearing is horrendous for a V6 sedan
The dual mass flywheel causes really bad rev hang. You have to brake between downshifts....
4grfse has carbon buildup and piston ring issues
The dash and door panels melt no matter what you do.
It's a shame they never done estate/wagon version like they did in previous generation.
Yes. Due to that I'm looking at Mazda 6 touring instead. Torn between both.
I didn’t consider the Lexus when looking in this class because there’s no wagon. I got an A4 Avant. Yes, they have questionable water pumps, but I’ll handle that if I need to.
200000 subs, well done and well deserved. Bring on 500k.
Own a 2009 is250 at around 100,000kms. Still bullet-proof!
I had my 2012 is250 for 2 years now and still love it
I love my baby Is!
I have a 2009 Lexus IS250 every light on the dash is on but it runs and drives as smooth as it came out of the factory
Have you seen dealer lots nowadays? Good luck finding a car to test drive if it's not an SUV
Get one at 35k miles and now I am 331k miles I haven't had any problems only change oils, brake and tires, that is the only problem ❤❤❤❤❤
You can make these cars look a whole lot newer with aftermarket lights and bumpers

"Sticky dash pudding" deserves its own merch 😆

Same, I have a 13 is250 special edition and I love it, may be slow, but it looks damn nice and is limited.
Once you have software engine management issues, sell at once because the Lexus dealership has very little expertise with these kind of problems.
I've been doing research for a used IS350C 2010 model for months now and this video certainly helps to clear out some of my concerns
Ps: any IS350C here wanna share their experience with their cars? Thanks!
Have got the 250c, definitely recommend
Yup, got a 350c. Excellent car, Toyota reliability, a dated infotainment system, but that's to be expected.
I almost bought one, but went with a WH Statesman instead. Still thinking about one…
One very true thing is that since im 6'4 I do have to move the driver seat all the way back and while sitting in the back behind the driver seat...there is like 2 inches of legroom. Its not great...
The 4GR (2.5l) has carbon build-up and other problems. I'd stick with the 2GR (3.5l) it's a much better engine.
nah, just do the cardinal sin and get the tractor edition: the 220d :)
Only thing that one does better than the 250 is the torque (400Nm). (Do NOT actually consider an is220d, they re notorious for issues if you don t do lots of highway miles or if you generally like to choke it in the city.)
Ran a IS250 from 60,000 to 75000 miles with out fault. Only sold as the rear seats did not fold otherwise I would have kept it.
288,000km @ 17yrs old… bet it never had a cent spent on it, other than standard oil changes! Might not be anywhere near as exciting as the Germans’s, in fit/finish, power, quality, materials, driving dynamics etc… but anxiety is overrated anyway!😝
Great review guys🎉 I am considering of buying Lexus GS gen 3. GS 300 or GS450h. What is your thoughts about it?
Or as an idea for the next videos😂
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah🔥 I've been waiting for this one 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I have heard that carbon buildup in the engine is a common problem? Others have said its because of not changing the oil often enough, which is true?
It is because the engine only had direct injection. Common issue. More frequent oil changes apparently help
270xxx miles, and all that messed up was that my water pump went out at 230xxx miles, and that the heat shield for the muffler collected water and rusted out the pipes.
