      I recently bought a Black 3DS with 4 games including New Super Mario Bros for $80 CAD from a seller on Facebook marketplace. It was missing the stylus, AR Cards and original box for the handheld and games but I still think it was a great deal all things considered.

    I work overnights so I've always been into handhelds! I picked up pretty much everything I wanted for Vita about 5 years ago when they were cheap.
    You're right about DS-3DS. Those games are starting to jump up in price! If you see a copy of the DS game Wizard of Oz Beyond the Yellow Brick Road, grab it! It's a legit JRPG with an Oz theme.

    Great advice guys. I’ve been collecting for all handhelds for a few years now so I’m way ahead of the curve. Love handheld gaming just as much as I do home console gaming. Something about it just being so easy to play almost anywhere is fantastic. I love hearing you guys talk about handheld games and dipping your toes into it. They really dearest more love and respect. Awesome video as always guys!

    Of course! The DS line specifically its very important to own, because you can't really emulate the experience in any other device.
    It needs the stylus, it needs the two screens, it needs the multiplayer, and it definitely needs that 3D slider!

    I wasn't into handhelds, because I am old and was stuck with tiger handhelds, but collected the ds variants for the kids a couple of years ago. I can't believe how valuable they already are. My boys each have a wedge 2ds and I'm storing the boxes. I was able to be picky and have pokemon black, sun and moon CIB from a garage sale.

    The best way to enjoy a handheld is by travelling. I loved my DS when I was travelling long distance for work years ago. But during the pandemic I couldn’t last more than a few minutes. But yup, I’ve been collecting it for a while now. Tip for anyone looking; Zelda games are still criminally cheap and are bound to boom in a few years

    Great episode guys. I love my Handhelds and even have a custom Display tower for them. I made it out of an old DVD storage tower. Lynx, Nomad, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, GBA, GBA SP, PSP, 3DS, and Vita. I love them all.

  • @baronhausenpheffer

    Just a little "pro-tip" on the PSP, which applies to both games and movies... grab a component video cord. If you have a television that supports that hookup, you can play your PSP on your television. Actual PSP games are windowed, but any downloaded PS1 titles and UMD movies get blown up to full screen, and the latter look as good as a DVD does.

    • @classicpctinker5070

      Great tip. To add onto that, some of the HDMI and VGA convertor boxes for the PSP's component out will also stretch PSP games to full screen.

    One thing I think you forgot to mention about hand held is counterfeit/ reproduction carts is a huge problem and can be hard to spot .. that activity is what I think keeps that market depressed not everyone is an expert

    • @tr1bes
      @tr1bes 2 года назад +3

      This is a problem for most handheld devices. The Switch is probably one that will be hard to hack. It is possible but with constant updates, it's going to be a hassle to do so.

    • @classicpctinker5070
      @classicpctinker5070 2 года назад +2

      You're so right! DS carts are the worst. You can't open them to inspect the contents without destroying the shell. :(

    • @MSGSlayer1
      @MSGSlayer1 2 года назад +3

      I've actually researched the subject quite a bit, starting with GBA carts. In the case of DS cards, you can only check the circuitry on the back and compare the production numbers. The last bootleg card I had made loud noises when my DS was closed.

    • @GenerationZ313
      @GenerationZ313 2 года назад +2

      I really wish I don't buy these counterfeit by mistake when I find a DS game on sale. It would suck knowing that I basically got ripped off buying a fake when I could've just emulated those games myself at no cost.

    As someone who was a kid in the 2000s and early-2010s, I can confirm that we all used to just throw away DS cases lol. Wish I could go back and stop myself. Kept my PSP and 3DS cases, though. Didn't make the same mistake twice.

  • @cd5sircoupe

    Personally I think the PSP ship is sailing right now at this second. A number of games I paid a couple bucks for maybe 10 years ago are going for well over 100-150, others in the 50ish range. I have a few psp-1000 units and a single silver psp-2000 unit, most with cfw since that was my jam back in the mid 00s. Wish I had more batteries for em.
    Also very glad I copped a Vita 1001 with a few games and accessories about 5 years ago for 100 from a mini flea market my friend's sister set up at her bar, nice little venue that does metal shows n whatnot. Considering they're like 275+ now just for the system...
    But yeah, the second hand "wild" finds have literally almost dried up. I built 85% of my collection on stuff from garage/tag/yard sales or flea market finds for nothing. That ain't the case now. Everyone getting pegged by the market these days.

    • @classicpctinker5070

      Only thing saving the PSP right now is that most of the catalog is still available digitally on the PS3 store. When Sony finally kills that things will go nutz.

    I’m really glad you guys talked about this - back in 2019, I started collecting and fixing broken ds consoles back in early 2019 (self taught because I wanted to make a ds neon macro from broken ds lites) and now my collection has grown by a lot!!! Im not kidding, it’s insane!! I also cover pocket emulation devices as well on my channel. my knowledge on how to fix has grown, just in time too, I got in right before it all got crazy. I now mod all Gameboys, Gameboy advance(s), game gears (although not my favorite) and a few newer handhelds like the 3ds and dsi xls / tootles!

    IMHO there's one very good reason to collect 3DS.....and this assumes you actually 'like' the 3D effect......you can't emulate the 1:1 experience of the 3D effect/dual-screen on any other device.

    The reason why pawn shops and similar places don't usually have game cases, manuals and their paperwork is because they occupy space that could be used for home appliances and articles that they consider more important. Besides, pawn shop workers tend to think they are worthless. But they aren't! If they knew how much the cases and their included material influence the price of any given game, they wouldn't throw them to the thrash can and would happily treat them just as well as the actual games.

    • @GenerationZ313
      @GenerationZ313 2 года назад

      It isn't just pawn shops I remember GameStop got rid of all the cases for the Xbox 360 and PS3 games when they were clearing out their inventory and we're just selling the games in a plastic sleeve with the cover around it. In some cases I did ask for the case itself and they did have it but other times it was just a plastic sleeve and that was it which sucks when I want to actually put the game on my shelf has the game just themselves just stick out amongst my row of perfectly aligned game cases.

    Have you guys ever gone to a pawn shop and found their prices a little bit too high? The pawnshops around here (central Florida) used to check the prices of items out of the internet based on Gamestop & eBay (and I guess they were going for the highest sold or highest bidder price) best example I can give you was a Mario Kart (can't remember which, but I think it was for the 3DS) they were selling it at Gamestop price. Used, NOT new in box or anything like that. We all know the Gamestop horror stories.

      I was very fortunate to have gotten a PlayStation portable at my local value village for a measly $14.99 CAD in its original box with all the cables, manuals and a memory card. The only thing missing was the battery which wasn't a big deal since I ended up ordering a two pack off of Amazon which wasn't all that expensive. Unfortunately for me I picked it up right after the PSP store was shut down for good so the only way I can play any digital PSP games would be to purchase it on a PlayStation Vita or PS3 and then transfer it to the system which is a bit of a hassle but at least I still have a means of getting some of the PSP games that I've never played before.

At launch it was $239.99CAD + tax and decided to wait to see if the price would drop significantly like it did with the Nintendo DS which went down well under $100 around the time it was being discontinued. I did however get lucky and and got myself a new 2DS XL for about $129.99 CAD plus tax about 3 years ago so it's not like I'm completely out of luck.

    I think the 2 DS XL is going to be one of the most expensive hand held consoles in the future due to it being one of the last handheld's being released and I feel like a lot of people didn't buy them because most people who wanted one already had a 3 ds or the flat 2ds.

    Imo the best New 3ds looking handheld is the Fire Emblem Fates edition. And it very expensive to buy these days. I was lucky enough to get it for $200

    I was going all-in on the PS Vita, but then the Switch came, and that for me is the handheld option. That being said, I completely agree with the vast majority of your assessment on handheld gaming. Cheers

    Psp had a cable that would allow it display on tv on the later models. So it was way ahead of its time. I got 5 psp games thrifting cib and one was castlevania dracula x and metal slug anthology to name a few so I am a hand held collector

    I agree, the time is now for ds and psp. But like you guys said, I think the vita ship started leaving the port 2 years ago. Now it’s working up to full speed. I’m SOO thankful I got the bulk of my vita collection a few years ago because it’s very uncommon for me to find any now. I love handheld gaming!

    Been trying to find a New 3DSXL to compliment my handheld collection.
    Currently own a New 2DSXL, a 3DS, a 3DSXL, as well as PSP and Vita.
    There’s so much that can be done in the home brew scene on all of these, and they really are fun to collect games for.

      If they brought the gba for Castlevania on all systems, they probably bring the DS Castlevania to all systems as well. Kinomi has already done many other collections in the past prior to gba Castlevania.

    I still have my original DS so I can play my Game Boy Advance games. And the PlayStation Vita library is divided to I don't know what percentage like some PSP and Vita games are on PlayStation consoles like the Patapon series got ported to the PlayStation 4 and some Vita games like Persona 4 Golden is on PC. So if I want to play Persona 4 Golden or any games I have on my Steam library portability I might invest in Steam's handheld device down the line

    I don't think handhelds are really that big of a deal because of how easy it is to mod and add games. Unless you want to play all original, the games are useless but the hardware is great. The time is way past on the vita and ds for quality games. If you want the hardware, shop for Japanese stores. The conditions are typically really good and priced way down compared to the markup in the US.

    I love my 2DS XL. I bought it from Walmart when they were discontinuing it for $100. It's pretty easy to mod and I put a 256G memory card in it. I play 3ds, ds, gba, gbc, nes, snes, and sega. It's my go-to system now. PSP is also great when modded. I play PSP and ps1 on it. am looking forward to the steam deck next.

      The PSP is also my favorite. It's power and level of graphics is right in the sweet spot for my tastes. Like a Playstation 1.5 and so much of the library is available cheap digitally.
      New 3DS XL are also very nice if you can find one cheap.

    That's why I have my phone and I'm getting the steam dick and I have a switch but obviously it's a light so I can't jailbreak he'll do anything it says buy games when it comes and I've got a couple games and I've got a free games are on disc what I mean on whatever on a cartridge is it still fascinating that Nintendo still uses cartridges even that it's just the fact that they still is space obviously as much bigger than a Nintendo DS but it's still fascinated to see that from a floppy disk to a cartridge to a smaller cartridge to SD card to a CD to a DVD to a Blu-ray data has never changed I've got a bigger but it's still able to compile it down to a much smaller size to fit on something classic that I can't wait in like 20 years and I look back in tendo switch and black wow the fact that I just imagine trainers learn we still using cartridges for Nintendo lovely told me that I was going to be amazing thinking well like these is company is serious like they really don't want to leave there are always behind which I admire them for that like look at PlayStation they haven't changed I have changed the pizza place to control up but they haven't changed the way kind of is it still reminds me of the super Nintendo entertainment system controller with grips and I love it obviously there they've changed you designed to make it more less Nintendo Wii but I still have that Nintendo sparking tendo shine and that's what gives me great relief to think that even that them two did got a separate ways so and he has never are giving up on design will beside the boomerang controller but that's not the point when is Sony's always look out for a little ones black internal with Sony's little brother what sister

    Funny thing is I've picked up some games when they were inexpensive. Mostly original DS stuff like the 3 DS Castlevania games. However I don't own a system. I figured two things would happen and I was wrong on both. 1. The price of the systems would stay cheap (the only exception is the Vita) 2. This was when clone consoles were new and rumors of everything under the sun at affordable prices were on the horizon. So I thought someone would make something that would let you play DS or PSP games on your tv. Like how you can play GBA games on a retron 5 on your tv. But now I realize that's not going to happen and I need to grab stuff now.
