This is definitely going to be my problem. I am missing my skid plate. Thank you so much for making this video. I looked up the part on Rock Auto and assumed it went on the transfer case. Now I just need to order a skid plate….
I was going to make a follow up video to this that I never got around to. After several months the problem came back and it was the encoder motor on the transfer case. If you look at it the electrical connection is facing down, towards any water dirt or elements. Hopefully this fixes your issue, if it does not or comes back, look at the transfer case encoder motor.
So my truck same model 2015 is stuck in 4x4 and was doing the exact same thing before hand. Then tried last time went into auto and must have kicked in. Then said service 4x4. Turned switch back to 2x4 and now still in 4x4. You think this could cause it to stay in if it is reading to take out
It might. I need to post a follow up video to this. A few weeks later my problems repeated. It ended up being the encoder motor on the transfer case. 4 bolts and a clip to get the old one out. Takes no time at all.
Hey man, I’m having the same issue with my 16 Canyon. I bought the actuator straight from the dealership. I am having trouble removing the old one because of the spacing. Did you had a hard time taking yours out? I’ve used channel locks and all that nothing helps me get a good grip to lose it.

The encoder motor? By chance you didn’t do a video of that did ya lol! I’m not a mechanic but with a little direction can do most everything
@@billmachen7635 I'll make something today. I have sold the truck on got a sierra, but i think i have pictures still.

I did not have a hard time, but it is a tight fit. If you cannot get it with channel locks, I’d use an oil filter ban wrench.
Did this fix the issue?
Watch the video to the end, he answers this question
My four wheel drive works fine, but says it needs servicing!
What’s the part number?
I’ll have to look for it. Wait for my follow up video to this as I had to change the encoder motor on the transfer case as well
