    Love that you actually did a full diagnosis rather than throw a part at it. Outstanding explanation and walk thru of the inner workings of the whole circuit and process. Great example of going the extra mile and showing the full scan results, illustrating the circuit and talking it thru along with service bulletin. Haven't seen your stuff before, but will definitely subscribe follow and like. Thanks for creating the video. I'm always looking for great repair and diagnostic videos for my Silverado which I've spent a small fortune on in repairs over the years.

    Very helpful video. I have a similar issue with a 98 Chevy c 2500. Four-wheel drive that is stuck in 4 wheel high motor engages on the transfer case but immediately disengages. I don't want to do what most people do it just start throwing parts at it. I've tried everything I could possibly do mechanically myself. I have no broken wires no frayed wires.

Thanks again and keep up the good work.👍

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 Год назад +2

      Did you ever find out what the problem is ? My 09 Silverado 1500 I replaced the front differential actuator and the 4x4 started working again then after a couple weeks the lights on the dial weren't lighting up so I replaced the shift dial because it seemed loose and the trucks got 200+ thousand miles on it and then the lights came back on for the dial and it would shift from 2x4 to 4x4 then after a couple weeks again no power to the shift dial with no lights on the dial . So I replaced the transfer case actuator and now I get this big red N at the far right of the dial but that's it . I checked all the fuses under the fuse box under the hood and everything checked out good with no blown fuses at all . I had read that I'm supposed to put the transfer case in neutral before bolting on the new actuator but that doesn't make sense being most of the time when the transfer case actuator goes bad the trucks in 2wd and when I bought the new actuator there were no instructions at all saying anything about this . I've checked all the grounds and cleaned the wires going to the frame and other locations and used anti seize on them once tightened then sprayed paint on them to help seal it more and still nothing . The pins in the wire harness looked good no corrosion but I can't tell if those pins got pushed back like he was saying in the video and unfortunately I can't do a probe with my fluke to do continuity tests on the pins because GM made the pins so small I can't get my test pins for my Fluke to get into the harness pins to do the test . The wiring on these trucks is absolutely piss poor as far as how small the wires are that get brittle and crack in the insulation and cause all kinds of problems not to mention all of the body modules that these trucks have that do go bad and cause issues as well .

    • @michaeltretina
      @michaeltretina Год назад +1

      The best place to start is checking the grounds. There's one under the driver. And then there's one on the firewall in front of the passenger. That ground has a mega fuse, a plastic cover covers it. I've taken that off and sanded down to bare metal. My gauges started working properly after that. It's been awhile and the issue hasn't resurfaced. Good luck. Let me know

    It looks easy when you know what you are doing. Someone gave me a free Saturn coupe today because it won't run and she got a newer car. I have previously jumped started it for her so I suspect an electrical problem. It is old, no air conditioning and burns oil but I need vehicles to practice on and I have plenty of parking so It will only cost me a tow bill. The battery appears to be ok (12.7) but I will need to do a battery load test when I get her home. Depending on what I find out it will become a spare vehicle, or I will call Pick n Pull to come and get it. Either way it is a win. I have been watching Eric for quite a while so decided to give it a go. The best part is it is not a rust bucket and the transmission shifts.

    Hey Ivan, Eric O has to stand behind his work, he says, so he can't do those no parts required fixes. Sounds like fightin' words to me. :)

    I'd like to see video's on walking through the diagnostic process with one of those code readers that you can buy for less than $50. I frequently seem to take forever drilling down to the problem although I only work on my cars and trucks so I don't have any professional experience.

      It's about impossible to do this with a cheap code reader on these trucks because of the extensive amount of wiring and all the body modules these use and of course if you don't have a good wiring schematic it would take you forever and you'd probably still not figure it it out because everything in these trucks is run by computers and modules . There are so many fuses and relays on these all over besides what's under the dash and hood it's ridiculous. I just went under the hood on my 09 Silverado and popped the cover off the fuse box on the driver's side and 1 atza time pulled each fuse and cleaned them and checked them to make sure they weren't bad the used some stuff called Deoxit that's mainly used for cleaning out corrosion in volume pots and fader sliders on mixing boards to cleans the corrosion out and seals them so it cant corrode again and it took me about a hour and a half to do each 1 including the relays and 4 pin 40 amp fuses and spraying the Deoxit into each fuse receptacle and inserting and pulling the fuse out multiple times just to scrub any corrosion out and make a better contact then flushing the crud out with more Deoxit. The stuff works great and you don't need a lot of it to work but it's kind of expensive for what size can you get but it does work . It's been around for over 60 years and is mainly used in radio stations and recording studios to maintain the volume balance tone bass pots and fader and sliders used on mixing boards and if course guys who play electric guitars use it on there volume pots and tone pots as well as on the amplifiers pots switches etc. I figured since my truck is old and I live in rural WI where we get alt of snow and salt is used it probably is a good idea to do this so those fuses are making full contact and not getting corroded up and failing . You can find this stuff on eBay and probably Amazon but I found it on a place called Amplified parts who sells it also for guys like me who work on our own guitars and amplifiers besides trying to work on our own vehicles.
