I had the front differential changed with a replacement from a 2003 GMC model. after the guy replaced it, the car is now making a howling noise and clunking noise on the turns. doesn't feel safe to drive at all. he mentioned that because the oil still looks silver it needed to be replaced because the gears are not getting the proper lubrication and needed to be replace with new oil. can someone please shut light on this.
If oil is silver there is a problem(new oil looks like honey). that means oil has metal in it(not wearing properly or something is wearing out). The howling might be wheel bearing or one of the differential bearings. When you remove the differential you also have to remove the CV shaft and joints. The cv goes into the wheel bearing and has quite a bit of force on it. When you take the cv out of the wheel bearing and then re-torque it, it will sometimes ruin your wheel bearing. Had to replace both of mine and my brothers because of this. Test wheel bearings then go form there. Good Luck

I change my wheel bearing I change my front axle and it's still making noises how do you fix a front differential
You diagnose not change parts and hope it's the problem.. sounds to me to be the same speed as the axle spinning most likely inside the front diff
@@jessemartinez4601 noise is coming from my transfer case
@@jc-de9sm My car was making a loud grinding noise as well. I thought it was the front two axles. My mechanic I've been going to for years just found out what it really was. It's the transfer case making the grinding noise. Now I have to take it to a Transmission shop and maybe get a new one.
My 92 is making a grinding noise, like two gears turning together i replaced the transfer case but the noise return any suggestions will be greatly appreciated
I thought when chevy silverados or suburbans with rear wheel drive only the rear differential works in normal drive and when 4x4 is engaged the front differential engages, correct me if im wrong please. I get a similar noise ONLY when car is moving at any speed and gas pedal is "depressed" and goes away when pedal is pressed?? thought it was bad fan clutch but put new one on and noise was still there but faint..
vacuum lines are bad
If the noise goes away with the pedal depressed than it is a bearing in the differential
1k fix for me form local mechanic, ugh!
I had the same noise but it was coming from the front of my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I took it to a ring and pinion shop. The told me it was the carrier bearings. I had them replace all the bearings and the noise is gone. $629 I fix almost anything on my car but with the shims and special tools, I said you fix it LOL I'm glad I did. I know it was done right and with a warranty 6 month or 6k miles not great but not bad. Hope this helps. Remember if the noise gets louder not under load (foot off the pedal) It's a bearing issue
Brady's Brain dang only 6mo/6k warranty the axle/gear shop where I live gives 12mo/12k warranty
I know its 2012 video but I have the same noise, Mazda Tribute 2.0 '02 - where is the problem? Any help?
Mario Kra me2 im Mazda 2 also have sound like this when i trun right or left
Wheel bearing
my 2008 ford escape front wheel stuck .i got two different diagnositics.one says its transmission and the other says its transfer case .but the trany stick is moving into gears.any ideas? its a 2.3 l engine
What did it end up being?
Thanks for showing this!
Please help! I have a 2004 GMC Yukon Denali XL.
Good Luck
Hey, Thanks for your response. Turns out, the guy lied and never replaced anything on the truck. He took the Gears out of the Diff, as a result, it also destroyed my transfer case. The guy disappeared on me. I ended up spending nearly 5k to fix everything! :-(. Now I have a new issue, the Truck is whining loud and leaking oil from the front. The brake peddle also vibrates when I press down on it. SMH! always something!
Any idea or help I have a 08 Jeep Compass fwd I can hear a whop whop whooping sound on my front right side wheel area I have replaced wheel bearing still have the noise when accelerating you start to hear it at 5 mph
perhaps you should change the title of your video then...
Mine does this noise at highway speeds then when I go to stop it gets louder then makes a large clunk noise and goes away
4 wheel drive or all wheel drive?
Mike Didier it’s a 4 wheel drive I changed the vaccum ball and it stopped i think I have a vaccum leak or the vaccum accuator is bad
Did you find out what whirs that noise ????
Yeah it was the rear wheel bearing
I got a 95 f150 4x4 I'm chasing that noise on
how to fix this noise
are you sure its a front differential noise ,, i got the same issue on my sport trac 2007 v8 limited ... ive changed booth front wheel bearing but still hear the same noise !!
It turned out to be a rear wheel bearing. Had to take out the axle to figure it out. Did this on the 4 runner and my tacoma.
+Joishua Doyle thanks bro .. ill go shopping :)
+lastmanxa just changed rear wheel bearings ,, same noise still
Same problem occured in my toyota hilux ... did u find the solution for it
my Corolla 2002 has this problem how do you solved?
Enmanuel Tavarez Jack up one tire at a time on the lower control arm close to the tire. Then grab the tire at 12 and 6 and also at 3 and 9 and wiggle it(Not roll) the one that moves is the one that is bad.
Wheel bearing
Meh. Just turn the Tunes up louder! That noise will go away!👌🏻🤭
That isn't differential noise. Sounds like a wheel bearing to me.
What does diff noise sound like?m. I have 08 tahoe and It makes popping sound when turning the the wheel sharp to the left and right. Does it when in drive and reverse. Feels like it's coming from the front drivers side but can't be sure. Changed axle, and hub. Also when I'm making a turn going up hill it seems like something clicks and the gears do something funny. N
Why post this video? Has nothing to do with front diff! SMH
I've got an 03 dodge Durango and I'm hearing what sounds like a scraping noise coming from the front at first I thought it had something to do with brakes but you'd think the noise would stop or get worse if it was brakes but it's a constant scraping... anybody have any clues? the help is much appreciated
theESFgaming your issue is most likely a damaged
wheel hub assembly/ wheel bearing
theESFgaming im having the same problem jack up the car spin the wheel of the side u think it comin from to mimic the sound u hear while driving... cv axle shaft i believe it is well at least hope thats what it is... to find out if it is the wheel bear face the tire one hands at 4 oclock on tire the other rite across now push with one hand and pull with the other it see if you feel any play
theESFgaming check your brake dust shields , they get bent and will rub on the edge of the rotor
Great video, my 2011 Sierra is making same noise. Going to gm shop on Monday. Hoping it's nothing major.
this is look like front shaft not differential
Thats the differential.
it is a bearing, badly broken.
Nope no the noise my Expedition is making.
what model car is this?
Donz Picazo maybe 1995-2007 explorer
Its a Toyota Tacoma
had a loud growling noise in my front end of my 06 dodge it was slop between the intermediate shaft an the CV axel when new had a drive shaft shop center it and weld the intermediate shaft to the CV axel then balanced it no more noise what a cheap an stupid design
I don't hear anything.
My jeep is doing the same
My car have a noise I could
Not detect ml 320blue tect
So what the fck is it!!!
Only answer is in the comments. He said it was a rear wheel bearing! I have the exact same noise but assumed it was in the front. I'm checking the rear now by putting it up on a lift and running all 4 to see if it is front or rear. 1999 4runner
@richardmolnar9800 was it your rear wheel bearing
