Back in the day I had a 95 trans am that required a rear end gear additive. I changed the fluid once and didn't add it in so every time I made a turn I'd get a weird noise. I had to do it all over and add the additive. As soon as I did the noise went away.
I had a hum for a few weeks. Thought it was a wheel bearing. Replaced them and nothing. Then that same day noise when from a hum to a whoosh-whoosh-whoosh and then I got a leak from my pinion nut. Haven’t moved the truck since
I HAVE AN 02" BLAZER ZR2 THAT HAS BEEN BABIED. I HAVE A NOISE THAT STARTED OUT SOUNDING LIKE A LOW POWER STEERING FLUID WHINING SOUND FROM THE REAR. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY DRIVER'S SIDE OUTER WHEEL BEARING WHEN I JACKED IT UP & THROTTLED TO 30MPH IT WAS LOUD. I JUST CHANGED IT OUT & THE NOISE IS STILL THERE. MORE IN THE DIFF & PASS SIDE. I NOTICED IT DOES HAVE THE G80 LOCKER IN IT. EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD, NO NOISES WHEN I TURNED THE SHAFT BY HAND. IT'S ALL CLEAN, NICE & TIGHT. IT HAD VERY LITTLE SHAVINGS ON THE INSIDE MAGNET. NO LEAKS ANYWHERE, NO PLAY IN MY PINION GEAR, IN MY WHEELS BESIDES THE PASS. SIDE REAR HAS A LITTLE IN/OUT PLAY & A LITTLE NOISE (PADS & BEARING, I THINK) WHEN I ROTATE BY HAND. I HAVE A STICK MAGNET I USED TO LISTEN WITH & PUT IT TO THE DIFF COVER & IT WAS KINDA LOUD IN THERE, THERE WAS NOISE AT THE PASS. SIDE WHEEL ALSO. COULD THAT BE DRONING NOISE TO THE DIFF? I'M CONFUSED BECAUSE THERE'S NO CLUNKING SOUNDS. NEW U-JOINTS, ETC. MAYBE ITS THE PASS SIDE REAR WHEEL BEARING & I'M JUST OVER THINKING THIS. I DO NOT TOW OR ANYTHING WITH IT. JUST A MALL RUNNER.. I'M CURIOUS WHY THERE'S NO IN/OUT PLAY ON DRIVERS REAR BUT THERE IS ON THE PASS SIDE WHEEL? WITH IT JACKED UP, THE PASSENGER SIDE SPINS & IT'LL ENGAGE THAT LOCKER & DISENGAGE, THEN IT JUST KICKS IN & OUT. SOMETHING I DIDN'T NOTICE BEFORE I CHANGED THE BEARING OUT..
A reason I’d like to add unless someone already did here then I’m sorry… but wife ran over a pillow and it exploded and somehow became entangled all around my rear axels and diff which then over time caused a lot of extra heat and friction and apparently melted my seals and now after three months I have no oil in it… 2019 dodge challenger GT with 26,000 miles 3.5 years old. Waiting to take it to dodge for the appointment… but I drive only in emergencies. No more than 3 miles at a time. Hoping I don’t screw it up more. Because when I noticed the humming I didn’t think much of it (car dummy) now I have learned much about cars and to never just ignore cries for help. Now it grinds and sounds so much worse. It overpowers my muffler resonator delete lmao😢
Thank you very much for your informative video. I have a 2011 Chevy Silverada 1500. When I change gears there is a noise in the differential by the shaft. Also the differential moves upward a little bit when I change gears. Any ideas? Do you think I need to rebuild the whole differential or can it just be a gear box? Thank you again.
My 01 pathfinder hums when on gas. Changed fluid and it looked fine. No drivability issues but the hum is annoying. Previous owner took it in previously for same issue but no notes on issues. Anything i could look for? Thank you.
can you help expain if slack in the differentials could cause similar noises? I have a Jeep Wrangler JL and its making a thumping and occasional clacking noise when the weather is colder
Thanks for the great info bro mine started vibrating a lot specially after going 70mph and also when I make turns I feel like I’m not hooking onto the road right…. So yeah thanks
My noise is different. It sounds like clacking, usually on deceleration. Sometimes it's quiet like at slow speeds or with the clutch in. It can go for a while with no noise then other times it's pretty bad. If I gas it and get it on the freeway it's smooth till I back off. Goes away with the clutch in. Sounds like a rattling muffler but I changed that and it's still there. Fluid was horrible and I changed it twice. Each time it gets better. I'm using cheap Valvoline and no LSD additive because I hope to keep flushing it out. It's very smooth with no whine or rumble. A few flecks of metal on the magnet but just a little. Hoping it cleans out but don't want to keep driving it when it's rattling. It's a 2002 Miata SE so it should have the Torsen. They're over a grand to replace so really hope it can be fixed. Maybe an aftermarket like Cusco or Tomei but they aren't cheap either. Any advice is appreciated.
Great video, i got problem with acadia 2016, sometimes when turning at low speed( left or right) and accelerate got very loud bang like someone hit rear of the car with hammer, any idea if that might be differential? under everything looks normal no loose parts etc. It almost looks like that loud bang was made when one of the wheel spins faster than the other, thanks
How do you remove the overflow (stripped) bolt? I changed the rear differential oil on my 2014 Tacoma 4x4. The overflow/fill bolt is stripped. I think I over tightened it (after filled). Now it turns kind of stiff but it won’t tighten and I can’t take the bolt out either. The drain plug is on there tightly, no oil leaking yet. I wonder what would happen if I drive at high speed on the freeway.
What would make a rubbing noise from back right rear that goes under the car when first accelerating at times and stops when go over a bump? Only happens off and on. Just had brakes changed a month ago and started a few days after.
I have been driving my frontier 70.000 miles whith a humming sound between 45 mph to 65mph only it don't get louder or nothing been the same grinding sound and vibration us what you don't want
When I take off from a stop in my truck a lot of times I hear a bad grinding noise under my truck. I changed the gear oil and there was little metal specks in the oil. So now I’m thinking transmission?
How does a differential get cracked along with the axle I only got 19000 miles on my vehicle I bought the vehicle with 11000 miles now all the sudden it’s cracked and making that noise?
If your Tahoe wasn't going into reverse then all of your forward gears stopped working your transmission needs an overhaul. It has a 4L60e and they very commonly fail.
But my car makes a on and off clunking noise when I accelerate when I let go of gas it stops. They changed the rear bearing and the diff but it’s still making clunking noise I’m so confused on what to do
Someone Asked If There Was An Additive? Maybe Lucas Product? I Don't Suggest Using Anything Lucas Makes Other Than Fuel System Cleaner! Use Motul 75-90 or 75-120 And Maybe TUFOIL 2oz's? Some Rear Diffs Get These Noises And Some Don't Even With 400K Miles Stay Quiet Even In The Same Exact Vehicle With The Same Rear Diff, Why? I Have No Idea? Maybe Some Are Made On Friday Or Monday Hangovers?
My Chevy Captiva AWD has an issue. While turning the steering or making a U-turn at slow speed, the car shredders as if something is holding the tires. While reversing and turning the steering, it holds the tires with vibrations. Moreover, both the rear tires are worn only on the inside. The problem doesn't seem to exist when I remove the drive shaft. I tried to change the drive shaft of a good car, but the problem didn't seem to go away. Please help me. What might be the issue with my vehicle?
@@coltredwine1028 Thank you so much for letting me know about your problem being resolved. I am going to try to have my rear differential opened up this week for inspection.
@@coltredwine1028 , you were spot on. It is the same issue with my car as well. I tried to change it with another vehicle, but the problem disappeared. But I would like to understand the cause behind this part going bad. It looks dam new from the outside, though.

Literally sounded just like my 03 Yukon
😂
Better than that black comedian from the Police Academy movies
Those sounds you made really helped me ID the issue. Thanks
Having issues with my '95 Silverado 1500, this video narrowed it down plenty, thanks!
Thank you. You gave me a better understanding of what needs doing to my motor. Bless you.
You just don’t know how much you helped me with this video! My 2010 Camaro is doing the exact first two noises you made
Glad to help
Brother keep up the good work you are doing great job helping us save money

Why does my differential oil excessively leaking from the vent tube on 2003 grand marquis? Oil changed 8 months ago.
Could be a blown seal transmission fluid getting into the transfer case
Hi mate , in the first symptom you didnt explain the cause of it like the rest.
what could be ?

Good video.
Thanks!
How about if it doesn’t hum or whine. Goes into reverse fine but if I accelerate in reverse my entire truck trembles.
Thanks
The second sound is my transmission when i miss gears getting home
Can a bad axle cause ABS light on?
Is slight clicking while turning one wheel be a sign of it going bad?
Yes it can

Nope it's your rear differential just had this issue
2009 Cadillac sts ive heard clanking sounds not the 2 what was said any clue? Im being told rear differential but idk
Could be driveshaft stuff like u joint or driveshaft coupler
How does a differential get cracked along with the axle I only got 19000 miles on my vehicle I bought the vehicle with 11000 miles now all the sudden it’s cracked and making that noise?
Ok how much does it cost roughly??
Can it cause worn out rear tires?
Yes it can

Could it be squeaking noise?my rear wheels seem like stuck sometimes while I am turning left or right and squeak comes on
my truck did the same, and my differential grenaded itself a couple weeks later.

thank you so much,it helps
I have a 2017 chevy trax AWD and I hear a sound only every time I make close turn forward or reverse , IDK WHAT COULD IT BE ??
If it's a rubbing sound could be tired on the inner Fender wall if it's a clicking, probably c. V. Axle.
mine makes noise as im slowing down to like 1km it goes woo woo woo whats that mean
Thanks Sir.
Turning issue?? 1:10 😂 like what?
Would it be the wheels skipping?
Probably means in a front wheel drive maybe? Not sure.🤔
Hahaha it's funny but you have copy those noises very well any way thanks for share what you know
The second one is my car from 15-20mph only 😮
👍
