    Federico, keep doing these. Seriously, it's such valuable input and so interesting infos here and there from the guy like Hans and great to see that someone with his experience and skills is taking care about your watches. To be honest, I have never been a pre-owned watch guy, I mean, what I cannot afford on AD cost = I cannot afford. But you guys are the first time make me thinking otherway. For the first time I was going through some pre-owned dealer offerings and considering (btw. that Tudor chrono is really tempting). Not anymore looking on pre-owned watches with despect, but with respect (where deserved).
    So once again, thanks to you and Hans and I'm looking forward for the next epizode.
    Btw. one question: In one of your previous videos you answered on question ETA vs. Sellita => ETA all the way. Sellita to be better made on more modern machinery? Bullsh!t. etc. What Hans thinks of this, especially since for example Sinn is now Sellita all the way (and I always counted Sinn to be one of those "tough germans" you were talking about in todays show). Thanks. ;)

    Hans, your analogy of the watchmaker to the master chef was so enlightening, as well as your reminder of how many years of formal education it takes before a watchmaker can start to work out in the field, and that watchmakers are artists, not simply mechanics. When I finally purchase my dream watch, I want you to bless it for me!!!!!! What a delightful conversation!

    Dear Federico. Really love your vids. You really seem to have found your place and that transpires in what you do. Great content and vibe and the connection to your business is completely natural. Surround yourself with guys like Hans and you can't go wrong. The Q on German watch making is brilliant. Scratches way underneath the surface of things. Wish you the best of success! There's only one place where I'll buy my next quality piece.

    I watched a video on someone who compared German vs Swiss Watch Makers. “The difference between the two are that the Swiss over complicate their watches while the Germans over complicate but do so with a purpose. Every move a German watch maker commits to is intentional and not just because they can” is what he said.
    Not sure if what he said is true or not but it’s something I remember when the topic ever comes up for me.

    Hans sounds exceedingly competent, but how do you get new replacement parts when servicing the various watches? What if your watch needs a new factory crystal or crown/pusher, bezel, etc? How do you source it?

  • @samd.5203
    @samd.5203 6 лет назад +1

    Great Q and A session. Just a heads up if anyone cares. The study that Hans mentioned did occur where the sick people who had someone praying for them improved faster. However, since that time the same study has been replicated numerous times and there has been no difference between the two groups. Therefore it appears that the power of prayer is not super helpful in treatment of disease. However, I'm sure it works wonders for watch making! The video was great and very informative.

    I think, having a long standing relationship with a good independent watch maker is essential for a serious collector. Especially nowadays, as finding those gets harder and harder even in Switzerland. I'm lucky to have found one with a vast network of other watch makers, so he's able to source almost every spare part needed. Before I found him, I met several who I wouldn't even trust to work on a simple ETA 2824 straight from the assembly line ...

    If you have an automatic perpetual calendar watch, you'll see the value in a winder very quickly.

    • @JohannBauernfeind
      @JohannBauernfeind 6 лет назад

      iimaniDAVID or use the quick setting on the perpetual. A complete overhaul for a QP buys you at least a winder. Just say'n... Thank you for watching the show.

    • @iimaniDAVID
      @iimaniDAVID 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks Johann. I have the JLC Ultra master Thin Perpetual. If it stops, I first have to figure out if it stopped outside of the "danger window" (8pm to 2am) where no adjustments are to be made. So, wind it and see. Then if if it DID stop within the "danger window", let it run until out of the "danger window". Then I can quick set. Right? Are you saying I can quick set while in the "danger window" b/c the quickset lets me do that?

    • @JohannBauernfeind
      @JohannBauernfeind 6 лет назад

      iimaniDAVID put in in handsetting mode and turn the hands to six AM / PM then quickset the watch. On QP's it is more important not to turn the hands backwards during the switch then it is to quickset. Either way at six or 18:00 you are fine. Thank you for watching the show.

    • @iimaniDAVID
      @iimaniDAVID 6 лет назад

      Johann. You are the master watchman so I don't doubt you. However, I've never heard of a "hand setting" mode and the instruction manual doesn't mention one. The manual clearly states not to adjust the movement forward or backwards while in "danger mode". Is it possible the JLC has its own specific rules? Thx for taking the time out to answer my questions so quickly. That's pretty cool.

    • @JohannBauernfeind
      @JohannBauernfeind 6 лет назад +1

      iimaniDAVID not really, they just want to avoid people setting the hands backwards. The movement itself moves the hands forward. Like I said the are too girly! Lol. You can't break any watch moving the hands forward. That is a fact. Move them to six (any six) and then you can you use the quick setting for all the QP calendar functions.

      Mechanical watches gaining or loosing +/- 1 seconds a day are a wet dream and do not exist. Any person stating otherwise is a showoff and was never educated on this subject. I myself manufacture double chronometer reading mechanical watches which are the most accurate mechanical timepieces on this planet and still will never get to a reading of +/- 1 second per day. Simple laws of physics will not allow that.
