As promised, to close out the 12 days of Christmas special, we will be giving away our R3 RX8 tomorrow to a random follower for FREE 🙏🏻 Follow the IG page to have your chance at it! Thanks everyone for all the support of these daily uploads. Should we keep them goin?? We still have a lot of cars to reveal 🤫
I know You feel obliged to wear expensive wrist watches to match with the beautiful cars you deal with. But you did right not to wear one for this car pick up job. Nowadays we got so many things telling us the time. Like the movile phone. Your red C5 was almost as dirty.
Mate, you never connect a jump pack to the + and -. You connect the positive and then, to connect the negative, you connect it to any bare metal on the chassis. OR like u did, remove the terminals. Else the dead battery is just drinking up your current if u connect like u did first.
Here's the deal .... Been there, done that twice ... If you don't drive these for a month or so, the vampire electrical devices in the car WILL drain the battery. If it's not your daily, keep it on a smart charger. Once the battery is dead, you get to where this guy is. You need battery power to open the front trunk but you can't jump the battery since it is in the front trunk. Stalemate. There are maybe three tricks on the internet to try. Jumping the Row 3 Number 3 fuse worked for me once but the next time it didn't. Porsche didn't put the post into the fuse box you thought was missing until 2001 or 2. Some cars have that emergency pull cable, mine didn't. My hood also had a sticky latch so pulling the cable he did in this video wouldn't work. Smart chargers won't charge through the cigar lighter since they need a minimum voltage to work which you don't have. And yes, the lever in the early Boxsters need power even though they seem to be manual. The early year car levers have rods that keep the levers from moving. When you have power, they pull out and you can move the lever. After trying every trick on the internet without success, I borrowed a portable starter battery box with a cable that would plug into the OBD2 port. VOILA !!! Immediately opened. Charged up the battery (slowly) and all was well. But then it failed the smog test. That is what happened to this car I'm sure. Draining the battery gives you an engine code and you will fail the Smog Test. There is a long procedure you can find on the internet to clear the code. You have to drive for 30 or 45 minutes at like 35 mph then the same at 65 mph all without going above I think it is 3000 rpm. If you have a track to do this on great. But I tried all day and there was always cars in my way to slow me down or I would have to speed up so that didn't happen. But just by driving it at all speeds for several hours over two days, it extinguished the code and I passed code. So here's the deal. Keep the car on a smart charger if you don't drive it regularly. Get a portable start battery with a cable that plugs into the OBD2 port for if you screw up. Drive it like hell for a few days before you try to smog it or it will throw a code. And enjoy. These cars are one of the cheap secrets of the fun car world.
@@redbarchetta8782 That is no solution. For one, I never know when I'm going to want to use it. A battery disconnect will deprogram many computers in a modern car that might even require a trip to a Porsche mechanic to reprogram. It also degrades the battery therefore its life. A proper maintainer prevents that.
I admire your attempt at working on a German car like this but I would at least change the oil before running and fresh gas as well as a few other things. Also washing the car before rubbing the dirt into the body or glass is always smart. That being said I appreciate your passion
Chazz, I know it's sometimes hard to understand him because he talks fast. What he said: advised people not to do what he did, but put their new purchase on a truck/trailer and bring it back to their shop, Also, he said more than once that he couldn't get the rear hatch open so he couldn't check the oil. Couldn't wash the car either because he's in a junkyard. He's also done another video after this one where he does clean up the car, change the fluids and then drives it.
Chain tensioner failure is a problem with many Boxsters and Boxsters and the 996s in the early 2000s had problems with IMS (intermediate shaft) bearing failures and RMS (rear main seal) issues. As much as I like Boxsters, those things have kept me from buying one. By the way, I would never start a car in that situation without first checking the oil level.
Rear Main Seal and IMS can be taken care of at the same time. For the amount of fun a Boxster is and for how inexpensive they are for a Porsche I wouldnt let those two things stop you. I didn't and love mine. I have a 2004 that I have had for 9 years and it is in awesome shape. Looks like it is maybe 2 years old condition wise. As with any car, you gotta keep up on the little things or you will soon be overwhelmed with issues.
The early 986, 97-99, have a double row IMS and don’t fail like the later single row IMS in the 2000-2005 boxsters. I have a 99 and it’s been nothing but pure joy and a pleasure to own. These cars easily go 200k+ miles with just normal maintenance and they are very easy to maintain. Keep up with oil changes and these cars will just keep going. You really have to drive one to understand but then u will really want one. Pure analog bliss that makes a symphony behind your ears
Got a 99 myself. I did install a new aftermarket HD IMS when I did the clutch. Since it was a black eye for early Boxsters, I wanted to rest my mind plus it makes for great resale value. Also a must have is to swap out the top with the rear glass.
The worst thing is selling a Porsche that runs beautifully like Dr P designed to a peasant who can’t afford to fix it if it went wrong so they pore over the maintenance trying to find fault and want a 5 grand Porsche to have full opc history . Pure scumbags
9:28 Trust me, I get exactly how hyped you are, your hand holding the phone when you found that cable and it worked, that it was trembling is the understatement of the century, this one or the last.
Before starting the car you should have checked the engine fluids, that is what I would do because that car looks like it has been sitting still for a long time and it is not known if the previous owner did good maintenance on it
ticking noise is normally lifters after sitting for a time, it will go once the oil warms up and circulates, check your coolant level get a new cap and check the water pump is not shot
I had a 98 boxster that I pulled out of a field behind a body shop a few years ago - thing ran like a top once I fixed the damage and the broken vacuum line from the engine to the brake booster. Really good cars.
I just joined your channel and love the car/aircraft content. I'm a retired Air Force aircraft mechanic and also a retired Manheim Auction lot worker. Here's a little tip to try. If you've got a car with a dead battery and you need power to access the trunk, if there's a cigarette lighter plug available somewhere inside, grab a jump box that also has a lighter plug and a cord with two male ends to go from the jump box to the car. This should give enough power to pop the trunk. You're welcome.
Yeah that generation doesn't have the emergency battery jump. You need to pull the handle harder. It's possibly locked electronically. You're so lucky and I'm very jelly about that cayenne turbo s and this 986 you got!
I've had my 98 Boxster for a full decade now. Bought it back in March of 2013. I do pretty much all of my own mechanical work on it. Had no idea that release cable was up inside the fender liner. Just haven't ever needed it! It's always gratifying to learn something new. EDIT: The thing with the hood latches not pulling up is also news to me. I am seriously loving this. If it helps at all, that tick sounds exactly like mine. If I leave it sitting for a couple weeks or more it will do it for a few moments at startup and then settle down. Been that way the whole time I've had it. I just assume it's what you thought with the oil working its way through after sitting for a while.
OMG! My heart was pounding when you tryed to jumpstart the car and it didn't give no sign of life. Oh and yeah - you just got a subscriber! Awesome content!!!
German engineering was my first car. VW, Porsche and now the Mini. Been there and lived in Germany but to see a beauty in USA is still a virgin experience. Had to watch the progress. Boxsters are closer to home than the next big YT influencer.
For it to open when you have the jumper from the fuse panel. You need to jump it, then use your remote to unlock the car, then the switch in the door jamb will work.
The ticking sound most likely a sticky hydraulic lifter. Common when they’re left sat for long periods of time. Good old Italian tune up & an oil change should be all good. On my 2nd 986. Mega cars for the money.
@JRGarage, you want to try a tip that may work and save you time, if the Porsche has a cigarette socket, you can buy a "Portable" jump start pack battery, those are cheap i think there one of the Energizer brand, those are not really heavy load but once you connect those to the cigarette socket it will have power, so you can open the hood, then after you can use your regular jump pack. You may want to test that out and will save you some time.

Most Porsche sports cars have a jumping post in the fuse box in the driver's kick panel. You hook a jump pack to it and it will power the front lid release.

Autozone should have been before the car wash to check/replace battery [and check alternator, after that.] That way you avoid being stuck & needing a jumpstart. Dirt is not an issue. Power and fluids are.
Another fantastic video. I hope you guys have another “we will tell you how to open and start a business, and go step-by-step! I would love to learn how to do this.
Great find, trunk is on a elephant lol and isn't a E brake it's a handbrake. I would Not be very lifting it on a forklift in the place they did with damaging any underneath pipes etc... very unprofessional... But driving it 1k with it not being on the road for such a long while without re-comissioning... dangerous. End of the day it is rear engined and it does need a lot of airflow going to it and going 30 mph and idling it for 30-minutes it is bound to run hot esp in that climate.
The main engine bearings on certain years will break apart causing metal shavings to destroying the engine. There is a bearing replacement if you catch it before the bearing gives.
I was dreaming of this car whole life, in my country its sells overpriced ($10k-$15k for bad condition car), so maintenance is very expensive regarding salaries, but you buy it for nothing and in a good visual shape! shiiiiiiit man you are lucky)
Sasha looks like a nice companion for a supercar drive trip, is she good with a spanner? What I think of the noise is that it sounds very expensive. And you need to turn off the engine until you can change or at least top up oil. I sure am curious know how much the wheels alone are worth?!

Brave soul to drive it all the way home 1,000+ miles. Obviously (and glad) you made it back ok. Looking forward to seeing the trip recap video.
Just a quick note, always place the positive cable on the battery first and the negative on a good ground not the battery.
24 minutes just to watch you crack the boot and the bonnet and start a car is insane dude.

Another fantastic video. I hope you guys have another “we will tell you how to open and start a business, and go step-by-step! I would love to learn how to do this.
Man you can talk! :) But you walk the walk too. Inspiring
Starting an auction/abandoned car without at least checking the oil first is wild
Happy for you brother
That wash was sooooo satisfying!!
Right?!
Dude this is crazy you’re in San Jose too! I struck gold the other day at IAA east bay with a 05 E55 AMG! But I really wanna boxter
What a great find. The Boxster is my fav Porsche, but prefer the coup version.
Boxster is the convertible and the Cayman is the coupe that debut in 2005

How did you ever turn buying cars into a RUclips content created channel! Crazy.
Really enjoyed the content and inspired me to shop around for a good deal for one.
Wow. Now this is an apic find. 👍🏽
I was dreaming of this car whole life, in my country its sells overpriced ($10k-$15k for bad condition car), so maintenance is very expensive regarding salaries, but you buy it for nothing and in a good visual shape! shiiiiiiit man you are lucky)
I never realized how "1990s Ford Taurus" that center dash looks. lol
Sasha looks like a nice companion for a supercar drive trip, is she good with a spanner? What I think of the noise is that it sounds very expensive. And you need to turn off the engine until you can change or at least top up oil. I sure am curious know how much the wheels alone are worth?!
