This video for brake adjustments is the one and only I've seen on RUclips. Most owner manuals don't go into detail for the procedure. Your attention to detail and verbal explanation is right on target. Thanks for the time you put into producing and keeping this channel interesting.
You are with out a doubt the best there is on small engine repair. I enjoy looking up how to videos knowing ill laugh a bit and learn about my repair at the same time. And this video made me reply. About 9.20 in. Slippers " Thats pretty cool." Taryl " Yeah it is pretty cool." I lost it. lol ty very much.
Thank you! This helped me solve a stuck brake problem on my neighbor's lawn mower. I would not have been able to address so quickly and efficiently without your help.
Aside from the pro tips about lawn mowers the shear entertainment value of Taryl's videos is priceless! Every work shop has a "Slippers" who just drops by uninvited to hang out like he owns the place. lol
just have to say....I have no previous knowledge about tractor's but just bought a (i think) 1998 20.5 HP craftsman Kohler GT for 50$ was having a few small issues but thanks to TARYL I have solved all of my gremlins. Taryl ....you are the man!! watching you in Cape Breton Nova Scotia
Taryl, I just fixed my brakes, thanks to your awesome video. Now I can move my mower without my car and a rope and the back wheels sliding all the way. They roll nice and easy now. :)
Thanks for the video. My brakes were locked up but when I tried to fix them following the Toro book, same old, same old. They did not show two brake pucks. The inside puck loosened up and fell against the trans housing and the disk, causing the problem. I followed you videos before, as usual success. Thanks,
THX, i have bought an old MTD Eurotrac 18/102. With your Vids and from a few others I got everthing running good. There are no longer descriptions available for this Model!
want to thank you for putting out the videos that you do, i get a good laugh and actually learn how to fix that's messed on my rider keep up the good shows big thanks from oklahoma
I got board with this video at the first 2 min, but then couldn't stop laughing while learning how to fix my mower which I'm sure is experiencing the same symptoms. This is really cool video. Thank you for sharing.
Just looked at this one, and for humor content, this one is probably the best of any of his so far.. Got a few chuckles out of it in addition to some good content.. I check with Taryl whenever I get stuck on something and he invariably gives the answer. He's the "go to guy" on lawn mower issues.
Hi teryl , i like your videos,i tryed to adj. My craftsman lawn tractor brakes like you said with no luck, it seams like the disk brake wheel just rotates back &forth like if the woodruff key were missing but its not, & nice tite fit any ideas have no brakes at all, whe n i crank the center adj. nut tighter no resistment that i notice, and every thing inside caliper looks fine, can you help? Robert
I feel your pain with Slippers. We owned a gas station when I was a kid, back when gas stations actually worked on cars. We had a whole collections of "Slippers" who would hang out all day telling us what we were doing wrong, spitting on the floor, and bothering customers, etc, etc. Lots of times I wanted to go Taryl on them. Thanks!
Awesome, funny, helpful. Thanks so much! I came back here two days later just to say that you saved my butt, I fixed those brakes fast and am good to go, all the time thinking (at first) that the tranny was busted. Wow. Saved me a lot of heartache, we have acres of grass but money is tight right now. THANKS !
Another awesome video Taryl!!!! Anything you have on the craftsman LT1000 17HP krohler will work great for me!!! keep up the great work guys!!! you are awesome!!!!
At the 4:20 mark, you showed the brake assembly from the LT1000. The pins in mine are stuck. I can't get them out. I put them in a vice, and used a hammer and screwdriver to try and get them out, but no luck. Do you have any suggestions on how to get them out, or where I can find that brake assembly?
I used to have an old sears mower with this brake design that I learned about the hard way. Wish we had interscreen back then. I have to admit I'm not sure if I'm impressed more by the tutorial or Slipper's ability to set up camp so quickly. lol! Maybe you should invite him on a camping trip, then he would actually serve a purpose. Sadly I've worked in places with people almost this bad that would come around.
thankyou so much taryl this fixed my problem. my MTD mower does the same thing but i thought it was just a bad design flaw from the factory but thanks to you i was able to straighten it out. :)
I cannot believe u did slippers like that, hes a good helper, and a better question askerer lol, love the vids, we want more blade man and throttle, and elskins fire it up fire it up fire it up

Excellent 👍 .. Love that comedy. Enjoyed till the last minute.
Taryl I have an mtd troy built kind. I adjusted to where it stops when the brake is pushed down however when turn it on it starts moving forward creeping but doesn't engage anymore. Any tips?
I am a IDIOT! I had a 24 year old craftsman 12HP Rear Rider 30" Peerless Tranny. Worked great then one season in the spring could not move it. I trashed it and bought a New Husqavarna....Now I realize it was the brake that seized. Thanks Taryl. Slippers hysterical. That is how my dad used to walk around the kitchen...Thanks for the fun and Memories!
Thank you so much, you described the problem I'm having to a T. I just hope it has the same brake assembly for my MTD yard bug mower. Wheel seized up on my and now it won't roll (brake locked up) Gotta find a way to kill 2 birds with one stone.
Thanks for the video. Do you have one for a simplicity Broadmoor hydro 14 ? It looks like the linkage goes to an arm on the hydro unit it self. Can't seem to find any info anywhere. Trying to fix my friend's mower that hasn't worked in years. It was her dad's so it's sentimental to her. Got it running good, just gotta figure out this brake thing. Thanks again!
I had a slightly different problem, my brakes didn't work very well, as in not stopping, I found the nut in the center of the 2 bolts that holds everything together, and just tighten it a little and now my parking brake works and my service brakes work . As always interesting videos
Maybe I missed it. But never saw you fix the craftsman brake. Reason I say. Is my disc wobbles. And a small spring has disintegrated. And don't know where it hooks up at. And how do you adjust it. Love the video.
The brakes both work the same way. In the video I show the craftsman set up you should be able see where the spring goes. I also show you how to adjust them.
Well I had seen this one before and i'm still trying to find a video of Taryl taking off a rusted back wheel. trying to do this brake cleaning is very hard...and yes I didn't take a snap shot of the set up. How many other set ups are there for a craftsman DYT 4000????
Hey Taryl, do you have one sitting in your yard by chance??? I've already tossed some WD 40 on the spindle letting it soak. The only reason I was going through this was when the brake was applied the engine would shut down, so i purchased a brake switch and hope that will remedy one of the issues.
Very funny! I love when Slippers is hanging up his clothes. I have a lawn tractor like the Craftsman - the brakes no longer engage, and I'm sure I screwed something up with the linkage from the pedal to the lever that engages both brakes at the rear. Wish you would have shown this....:(
Great videos, very helpful, but I first got get the wheel off? lol wheel wont come off and I could not get my engine pully off neither which I did your trick and knocked the belt guards to the side and slipped the belt off.
Still laughing about this episode and of course learned how to work on brakes. Taryl, do the next one where you play multiple parts. Those are the best. Of course Junior plays his roles real well too.
Taryl, I bought a used Sears Craftman Lawn tractor. LT 1000 18 horse 42 inch. My question is I think the previous owner put the wrong belt on because the belt is way to tight. I watched your video about removing the deck and it seemed like it was very easy for you to get the belt off. It is harder to get off on my machine. I think I have to cut it off. Any suggestions
+Paul Gendron Do you have a Manual engagement Or electric PTO. Electric PTO the belt is tight all the time. Manual the belt would be loose until you would engage the lever. So if U have a manual engagement & the belt is tight yur blades would be spinning all the time.
Man i love those old MTDs like these, tough as hell and they would fly with those 7 speeds. We had a Ranch King Model mowed 2 lawns a week one lawn around 3 half acers other one about 2 half acers in size. Ran that lawn mower for 13 years like that, dont make em like they used to, got a new john deere probably 5 or 6 years ago paints peeling off everywere and you cant steer it for shit anymore something happend to the steering got really stiff, like a car with no power steering at 1/2 a mile an hour stiff it kinda looks as if the steering gear i rubbing against the bottom of the frame what a joke. i wish we had another Ranch King now.
Now how about showing us a break/clutch fix, my tractor wont move besides the odd tiny jerk forward. Belts are good, it shifts fine, transmission is good im pretty sure. Its a hydro. Need help. I loosened the bar from the clutch petal to the break pad area and after doing that i can feal it slightly wanna move forward. Whats wrong? Taryl i need help, i searched for a video on this for afew hrs. Plz help T
I have a 1986 MTD like this, is there just one brake on the lawnmower? Or two (one for each wheel?) Love your vids, thanks for taking the time to make them!
I have an old 1971 Ariens 5hp Snowthrower I just got, would love to see you service something like it, don't bring "Slippers" along, and lock Jr in the shed, again. Love your vids.
Excellent video, but I have a situation where the brake seems to be locked, but when I Jack up the rear, the wheels spin freely. Could it still be the brakes locked?
Awesome vid, thanks! Unfort my white rider rear end is still stuck, shoulda known wouldn't be this easy. It never is. I took the whole brake assembly, including the disc, off. When you turn the rear tires by hand, the shaft the disc goes on doesn't turn. When you put it in freewheel mode, it still doesn't turn. Any ideas?
Yo son got T130 craftman mower can't find nothing on how to adjust brake.,or drive belt installation .can ya help poor man our .buy far you got best video's out there.hope you can help
Just discovered you couple days ago and your videos help me solve a few problems that I was having. Thanks for informative yet entertaining how to videos.
Hey, got a problem here. I have a Poulen tractor. My issue is when I release the brake, it pops a wheelie. Tried looking for the answer, but it shows me more videos of wheelies. Any answers. Thanks. Mike
ok mr tarry dactail .... i have a all wheel steer junk ,,,i cant find where the brakes are on that thing .... ive been working on this pos for a week ,,, put new belts on tookk it for atest drive ,,belt smoking ,,,, stops moving ,,,i made sure my belts were all inside the keepers i call them ,, but something isnt working in the variable speed ...im wondering if the varible clutch is stuck or something ,,, im about ready to junk it after 50 bucks of belts ...
How to make the pads last longer. A hose clamp is the right width. Just needs to be cut to length. You can use them as shims to push the pads closer to the Brake Rotor. Just sand the pads smooth where the rotor cut its grove. Place your shims behind the pads. Lot cheaper than $16+ for 2 new pads
Hello there, I’m hoping you can help, my brake pedal won’t go down, I did notice just before it stopped working, one of the pulleys at the back wasn’t springing back properly
