      Same here Mustie1. The rachet straps do work... sometimes, but they tend to put up a fight. I've had good luck with putting the tire in a headlock and squeezing it hard while putting air to it. Also, kicking the tire onto the bead while applying air has work serveral times too. Love your videos by the way. I was just watching them last night. You bring tremendous quality and content to all of your fans. Can't say enough good things about you my friend. Keep up the good work!

    When I was a kid back in the 70s you could buy a bicycle tube repair kit that came in a meta can. The top of the can was rough and was used to prep the tube. The glue you would smear it on then light it on fire. Once the flame went out you stuck the patch on it. I believe Phillips 66 was one brand. Don’t know if they still make these kits or not.

    My snowmobile trailer has eight inch rims, but large diameter tires. Once mounted, they are as tall as the tires on my 13 inch rims. I could not find any tire shops that would mount the tires. I did it myself, but next time I will buy tires already mounted on new rims.

    ...I put tubes in 'em all the time..great instructions!..one thing I might add..I always take the tire off every time..not only to check for things that might be poking through the tread, but also to check the rim for welding spatter and slag that might puncture the tube..sometimes, you may have to wire-brush, or in some cases file or grind, burrs from the inside of the rim, so you don't wind up with a punctured tube....

    • @RickaramaTrama-lc1ys
      @RickaramaTrama-lc1ys 4 года назад +3

      Yes you are right on that and we used to drag a soft rag around inside the tire and it would grab the smallest barb of anything and we could find it easily. All these millennials will never know the joy of working in a gas station and fixing many tires each day all by hand with no motorized machines not even the balancers. I always liked hot patches cause they usually lasted the longest and were usually the best cause they vulcanized the tube.

  • @williamstewart6999
    @williamstewart6999 6 лет назад +13

    Would be a good idea to check to inside of the rim for sharp edges so it doesn't puncture the tube. Those rims are welded together and they can leave a piece of mig wire sticking out. Ran across that when installing a tube in mine.

    There are many ways to do many things. I use a 5/8" threaded eyebolt in my 5" vise to anchor down tire. I put a Vise~Grips™ on one edge of the wheel so I don't have to chase the tire around when mounting. I always run my hand S l o w l y around the inside of the tire to be sure there are no sharps in the carcass. I put a little air in the tube when mounting to keep it from getting pinched.
    When patching, after abrading the tube I draw some long crosshairs (+) over the hole so I can centre the patch over the hole. I use a thin dia. pass-link chain around the centre of the tread and twist it tight with a long HD screwdriver to expand the tire at bead areas. If you don't have any 'Bead Sealer', driveway sealer or spray paint will work. That's why I have speckles on the walls! Just the way I do it without purpose built tools. Thanks for the tutorial Taryl.

    Last week I was going to my local parts house. When my truck started pulling to the left. I pulled over and sure enough the tire was leaking. About a 1/4 mile away was a tire shop. I knew the tire was worn out and needed to be replaced. I could only hope I could get to the tire shop before it leaked all the way down. As I turned into the tire shop I felt the rim hit the pavement. I get out of the truck and take a look. Some guy comes up behind me and asks, Got a flat ? All I could think of was Bill Engvall's Here's You Sign. It's a 100% outside, I am running late and Now I have to buy a tire and some idiot says this to me. All I could do was laugh. Sometimes you got to take a step back and Not let things get to you.

    For detecting a leak, you guys should use a spray bottle with soapy water. It's much easier.

    Since I stumbled on to your channel, I’ve Subscribed. Your videos are corny but oh so informative... I feel I’m getting a quality education and a new lease on the tools in my garage. What cracks me up “Power Nation TV” has nothing on Recreational and Power Equipment repairs and maintenance.... this is the stuff that is in most people’s garages. Get yourself a Dustless Blaster contract and take this show on the Road! Most of all keep making the videos. Thanks

    Of course you wannt to find and remove from tire what punctured the tube in the first place

    Should we check the inner tire for sharp objects or thorns before we put the tube in?

      In NS we spell it "tire" not "tyre" . I think that's the American spelling dude.... are you a real Nova Scotian? lol

    I worked at a tire shop all through high school. I've never seen this type of tire machine. We had the big pneumatic machine for car tires and we always did the lawn tires by hand. That bead squeezer tool is really neat! We would just tie a rope around the tire, stick a bar through the rope, and start spinning the bar till the rope tightened up enough.

      I have an old 10-10 machine, and used your tourniquet method to seat a bead. (I don't have one of those inflato-ring bead sealers either). Great minds think alike.

    Love the videos....word of caution : different tire tube manufacturers place the blue line differently - on some the line should actually be "up" ( yes, burned on this one ). Safest bet is to partially fill the tire, which leaves no doubt at all.
