    Here's another take on it.
    If you're buying a Challenger cuz you LOVE the "look" (nothing on the road looks like it) and a lot of HP isn't what really matters to you get the SXT V6.
    If you're a gear head and pure muscle is your first priority get the HEMI, you won't be happy with the V6.

      And without you people wouldn't know what an eyeball is!
      The 3.6 V6 is a great compromise of power and gas mileage.
      I get 31MPG with mine all highway with the cruise set to 70mph. Also the SXT handles better with hundreds of pounds of less weight over the front end.
      The 5.7 V8 Hemi gets about 5MPG less on the highway, that's about 100 miles less per tank if that matters to anyone.
      I drive vehicles for CHRYSLER.

      +Motor City Man You are just the bargain Chrysler was looking for. No wonder you can't afford a real car. 250 lbs is surely added when your fat-ass wife is sitting over the right front tire, which makes having 35 mpg drastically lower. Also, I'm sure that with her chewed bubblegum-for-ass, you're only able to make right turns. Good luck with your math class in community college.

    I got the sxt plus and I'm not regretting it. The car is beautiful!!!! unless you are racing, all that power under the hood goes to waste anyways. My car has plenty of scoot and comfortability for my every day driver. So save your self a few thousand dollars, and save some money on gas.

    This is an amazing car! My husband bought me one last night and I instantly fell in love with it! The car handles fantastically! I had to make a quick run to the nearest Wal-Mart late last night and it got 24.4 mpg. I was impressed with that. It can get up to 27 mpg. These cars are so beautiful and comfortable. It has a great safety rating. The insurance on this car was at a pretty great price. I was really impressed with size of the trunk and the you can fold down your back seats to be able to haul larger items. If you get one, you will not be disappointed!

    I love my challenger sxt PLUS 2015. This car has plenty of go for a daily driver. The interior is BEAUTIFUL. I got the red with black and pearl interior. i Test drove the 5.2 hemi r/t model and was not imlressed with the engine as much as i was impressed with the Sxt plus interior. I would have went with the RT plus model if I had the money but since it was between the RT and SXT plus the SXT plus made me happier.

    I bought a 2015 SXT Plus fully loaded (literally every available option via special order) for $30K after rebate and haggling. It's the perfect everyday car, is beautiful, is more than quick enough, and gets 24 mpg to boot. I could have gotten the V8 to receive the acceptance of anonymous internet commenters, but then I have better things to do than listen to my gas tank being sucked dry while sitting in city traffic everyday.

Yeah it's not the same as a real Manual.. but the ability to shift when you want and just auto when you want is the next best thing. Their wetness for you will be unmatched as they think about the fractions of a second you will save when you floor it to get to 60MPH because there is never a box truck or a mini van or a person thats not really in a hurry to get anywhere driving in front of you on the on ramp. This video just changed my whole perspective.
    Ive been desperately searching for a 2015 R/T or R/T PLUS for the simple fact that the title"muscle car" is usually attributed to a V8 engine.
    In reality, my goal is not to approach a race every time I get to a stoplight. I don't even go to the track often enough to need what would be a "track car".
    The 2015 SXT PLUS gives you the leather seats (which in my opinion gives the interior an entirely different appeal), as well as better gas mileage, and a lower price tag in general.
    The reality of it is just as you said in the video. The EGO is what is being served in many cases by the V8.
    It is the ego that tells you that you NEED the V8.
    Whos really touching 700HP on any given day?.. & Even if they are... Im not. lol
    Thank you.

What craks me up is the haters that say no it's not a Muscle car well go look at the 70 340 horse power ratings like 265HP or the 70 383 like 325HP and my v6 at 305 and thats not bad at all!!

    Its interesting reading all the comments and the ego comment in the video. Its true about egos, I have loved challengers since first seeing challengers and Cudas back in the mid 70s. I have always loved the new release of the challenger and really love the packages and options from 15 up. Im looking into finally getting a challenger to go next to my 01 Bullitt Mustang. I love the looks of the challenger, every angle of architecture is absolutely amazing! Thing is the Sxt snd Gt look great they have all the goodies and can run quicker than 70% of old muscle cars. Cheaper purchase price, insurance, gas, but you are missing that v8 roar and some power. But 305 hp is not weak its just we have been spoiled to increasing hp year after year. I keep hearing people say a challenger is a muscle car it shouldn’t have a 6. History lesson: A challenger is a pony car, in 1970 when the challenger came out you had camaro and Mustang just like in 2020 which is crazy in itself when you think about it. In 70 challengers, camaros and mustangs could be purchased with a 6 but they were base platforms, basic looks, base hp, little tires, non heavy duty equipment. Here in 20 the base v6 has it all in comparison for a great price! Im in the dilemma of what challenger trim to get, Im a muscle car lover and love v8s but that 6 is hard to beat for overall function ,longevity and value. Mine wont be a track car it will be a cruiser in nice weather and stored in winter and most likely will be kept in the Family for many years 🤷🏻‍♂️ I guess I will figure it out I just have to block out that ego.....Great vid really got me thinking👍👍

    Good review! My dad is going to buy a 2016 sxt plus I think. I read a lot of comments on here about the V6 not being a muscle car. I understand the thinking behind that statement because I am a muscle car guy. I don't really agree though because with 305 hp it should be pretty awesome. Some of the 60's Camaros had 302's and 327's and everybody thought 300 to 325 hp was awesome... now all of a sudden 305 hp is wimpy???? Everybody used to think a 325 hp Camaro was cool. Our Ride Life :: one thing that impressed me on the 5.7 litre hemi is that I was driving around town and getting aggressive often and still got 18 mpg (calculated manually). That's pretty good city mileage for a 5.7 engine pushing that size car around. Love Dodge muscle cars and sedans. I had a chance to rent an Infinity Q50 twin turbo v6 this weekend. I took it back right away because I missed the charger or challenger. I had to try and see if one of the Dodge cars came back. when I got back to the rental place, a challenger just came back and they let me have it. I'm home.

      Enjoy the ride, sounds like a fun car. I think part of us all want a V8 for the added sound and low end torque, but the truth is that on the road at legal speeds you just don’t get to use it as much as you would like. I use my SXT Plus as our family car, so a slightly quieter ride with all the creature comforts was a huge selling point (even though I could have bought the V8, at my local dealership they didn’t have all the extras that the SXT Plus had). Thanks for watching the video and enjoy your car.

    I like your opinions on this, as Im in a similar predicament. I went this week and test drove a 15 charger and challenger. I went in wanting a v8 but dealership only had sxt's left. I havnt been able to find any dealerships within a few hundred miles either that have any new V8s on the lot. So I was kind of figuring just getting the SXT. However, upon searching for accessories and upgrades Ive noticed there doesnt seem to be anything available for the V6. My plan was to install multicolor halo kits, some wheel well led kits, cold air intake, and maybe couple other small engine upgrades but just doesnt seem to be anything for the V6. Also not a whole lot available yet on the 15 models all together, but hope that changes as Im really trying to stay away from 14 and older as the interior just leaves more to be desired. 2015s interior however was amazing.

    One more point on the SXT VS the RT.
    The 3.6 V6 is about 250lbs lighter than the 5.7 V8.
    Less weight over the front wheels, if you like twisty road driving.
    If you can afford it, Super Charging the SXT will give you about 150 more HP, that's about 75 more ponies than the 5.7 Hemi makes......and it's lighter over the front wheels, BEST of both worlds, power and handling.

      You can supercharge the 3.6 to about 500hp. That's SRT territory. Why do you hate on what other people choose to do with their own money and their own lives? Do you need a V8 to compensate for your lack of masculinity?

  • @robertbrody4032
    @robertbrody4032 9 лет назад +9

    The SXT with the smaller engine is okay at best, but it's rather silly not to get the 375 HP version, which is MUCH nicer to drive and matches the heavy weight of this car. The Scatpack is the obvious "deal" getting you into serious SRT performance, but with lesser brakes and suspension versatility. The SRT 392 is for the VERY serious enthusiast. You basically get a Hellcat with a smaller engine, but when set for standard driving, it's also the most comfortable car in the group. The SRT 392 is the sweet spot, but expensive. Finally there's the Hellcat. A part of everyone will want the Hellcat, but if you won't get to a track or have a place to unwind it, you'll own it for no reason beyond Ego. Most will covet the SRT 392 and a few will buy the Hellcat.

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  9 лет назад +1

      You make some very good points and the Scat Pack, from just a pure horsepower perspective is quite a deal. What this was partly based on is when in the SXT (it was another person's turn to drive) the Hellcat passed us at a high rate of speed (won't say how fast) and the guy driving was able to catch up to it with no problem. Now when I drove them on the track the V8 cars are much better, but on the road drive it was hard to tell the difference. Now if someone can afford it, the SRT 392 or Hellcat are much nicer cars and are capable of some great performances. But if you can only afford an SXT (a boat that many are in), then you still aren't getting a bad car. Not to say that one day dropping a HEMI in it won't be there.

      The Sports Car Guys I don't think there is anything wrong with the SXT, but personally, I'd get at least an R/T for better resale value. Above all though, if I could only afford a new SXT, then I would get an older SRT, maybe 2011-2012 and they might be around the same price.

      @mauricec100 9 лет назад

      +Robert Brody The scat pack is a good deal because you get the 392 motor but the SRT 392 gets the hellcat wheels and break, beefier suspensions and other goodies. At 50k. not cheap but a better value.

      @robertbrody4032 9 лет назад

      I agree and that's why I bought a pitch black Charger SRT 392. I put 16K on it over the summer and it's been bullet proof and fast. The suspension is worth getting because it's stiffer than the SP version or soft enough for a daily driver.

    V8s have more displacement, there is no substitute for the benefits in terms of driving style, mileage leaves much to be improved, but the road feel is more connected. The V8 has over 100 more foot pounds of torque than the V6, and that works well when you keep your RPMs in the low range and maintain that cruise over hill and dale. A V6 doesn't burble or growl, it won't vibrate like a living beast at a stop light o stop sign. A V6 is more economical, true, but can a V6 switch over to 3 cylinders while cruising? Thats a Yugo.. damn that sucks.. The Hemi switches down to 4 cylinders when driving condition permits, mileage creeps up 5+MPG. True, the RT is not a race wagon like the Scat Pack, the SRT, or the Hellcat, but it provides a good measure of power and responsibility. It also is a starting point, a gateway, to the realm of high performance cars.

    The SXT V6 does a quarter mile in 14.5 and 0-60 in 6.0. The R/T does the 1/4 mile in 13.5 and 0-60 in 5.1. I have an SXT, put in a Mopar CAI which makes the V6 growl and added a Trinity Tuner. Got my 1/4 mile down to 13.9 and 0-60 in 5.6 Neither of them is all that impressive when you consider a Corvette (at 3200 lbs-1/4 @12.2) ) will blow the doors off even a SRT! My SXT has no wheelspin from a dig even in below freezing weather., Try that in a R/T! and you'll have spin city!

    If I buy a Challenger, it will be for that sweet music that only comes from that Hemi when you stomp the gas. I understand the purpose of the V6, but I would go nuts trying to convince people I'm not a poser for getting a V6. If you want a Challenger, but are thinking V6 because that's all you can afford, do yourself a favor- either wait till u can afford an R/T or buy a used one. Trust me, that grin from ear to ear on happens in a R/T and above.

      When I made this video the Dodge Challenger was my family vehicle. Dodge had me out to the press launch of the Challenger lineup and I noticed that the back seat was large and I thought it would be more fun than the Ford Explorer that we had for a family car at the time. My two boys were 4 and 6 when I bought it, so they were able to buckle themselves in the back and had plenty of leg room.
      Of course the Porsche Boxster was my daily driver the entire time as I personally prefer a smaller vehicle.
      The beard was grown a little over a year ago, so older videos like this will have the clean shaven face. Funny how different the beard makes me look.

    I don't think anyone will argue that the v8 Challenger isn't a nice car and it doesn't sound mean, and yes, it is sexy. But, you know what isn't sexy? $700 a month car payments every freaking month for the next half decade. My local dealer has 17 SXT Challengers on the lot for $22k. The cheapest v8 is priced at $35k. Like it or not, the v6 is the better choice for the vast majority of working class Americans. No matter which you get, there will always be something better, something faster, something sexier. The question then becomes just how much of your soul do you want to forfeit to the banks to stroke your ego. For sensible folks, the answer is clear. There's a reason there are more 6 cylinder Challengers on the road.

I'm about to buy a Challenger and I'm asking myself over and over again "v6 or v8". some say you NEED the v8. some facts: I live in Germany, so gas is quite expensive which means v6. On the Autobahn is no speed limit, which means v8.. for me this car is more about the style. I'm tired of the boring design of most of the German cars. but the sound of the car is also very important. so what would you recommend? will I rengret if I buy the sxt? or is the sound almost as good as the v8?

    I hear you but... What is exact difference in feeling between this one and 5.7? I mean there is not a big difference in hp, not very big difference in 0-60 times but there is significant difference in torque. I assume that this transfers into low end torque sensations. I'm only guessing so please confirm or contradict my thoughts but I get the feeling that in 5.7 you touch the pedal slightly and you feel (and hear) that the power is there. You don't have to step on it to feel that. So when you drive in town and you can't really attack the gas pedal 3.6 must seem slow and heavy because he needs rpms to show his potential whereas 5.7 is like a sleeping beast all the time. Am I right?

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  6 лет назад

      You do make a good point. The power in the 3.6 is at the upper end versus having the low end torque for the V8. Having said this on normal city roads you don’t usually get to feel much of the difference because of traffic. But when you do get a chance to pass there is less planning involved with the V8 as you don’t need to make sure you are safe to step on it. The sound of the V8 is also better although the V6 isn’t bad, just much higher pitched.

      Lewandowski Bartosz I was given a 2018 Dodge Challenger R/T, as a rental. I've seen R/T owners 0-60 at 6.1, on RUclips. I think R/T owners that have gotten faster times rev their engines, whereas, I've flat footed the pedal and gotten a 6.1, which is my 0-60 time with my 2014 Dodge Charger SE(8 speed automatic). But, the R/T exhausts sounds are 🔥🔥. There's no question that the R/T exhausts sounds better than the v6's, aggressive. People will also feel the power at a stand still. I haven't driven a scat pack, but, wouldn't buy the R/T.

      @OurRideLife  9 лет назад +2

      That is probably the best bang for your horsepower buck and when we drove the Scat Pack on the track it was great (although on the track, the Hellcat really shines).
      If you have the money that is the one to get, but at legal speed on the road you don't really get to use the performance. So, the question is if the added power is worth the added cost for those that aren't going to really use it (I'm talking the extra about $10K as well as higher insurance rates, the gas mileage difference, gas grade [85 VS 87] and higher potential of tickets.
      So, if you can take it to the track get a V8, otherwise get ready to pay the law if you get caught :)

      StephCurryWitThaShot I mean ur gonna be racing or speeding on the highway. I'd get the R/T. it's cheaper for a first car.

    We drove a 2017 v6 and a v8 - for us the v6 was perfect. It has more power than you think and you really cant feel the difference. Of course the v8 is faster but where in the USA can you legally go fast than 60-70? Texas you can do 85, but the v6 will do 140MPH. Here where we live, in the mountains, I have no complaints.

    I agree with the V8 might be a bit overkill, but if your not looking for overkill your in the wrong segment. A pony car should have a V8 and manual...Murica. well, no most of us 'Muricans can't drive manual. So then, added anti theft precaution.

    is that all I hate the mirrors I had to put a magnified one on passenger side cause of major blind spot im driving in nyc u need to be able to see. I have a manual n u would b outraged at what they did. its called skip shift. so when your dash says 1 to 4 shift and you go to fourth unless u wind out to like 6500 rpm n ur car is screeming to shift you will bogg then you have to shift to 3rd then back to 4th if you try to shift to third it blocks you, you have to at least touch the contact on 2nd in order to swith to third. I put in a short throw shifter which helped but not solution. there is an aftermarket skip shift deleate kit but its not a mopar product and they frown down on that. it also has hill assist. when ur on a hill it will hold your brakefor like 10 seconds. this helps burn your brakes. I had it turned off. shit if you don't know how to drive stick you shouldn't have one. the windows in the back are blacked out about 1 inch all around giving me less vision to look over my shoulder to see out that window. I left my door in the garage open one day and when I saw no light in the car on I thought battery was dead car turned itself off but when I left my trunk open that light killed my battery. I dislike all dodge rims n went with super snake chrome rims the r/t I had were plastic coated chrome rims. I dislike that it did not come with cold air intake or functioning hood scoops . the scoop inserts should have been chrome. the 09 model did not come with a spare just some fixa flat and an air pump. newer models do have a spare so I bought a steel rim from dodge that was an 18 inch rim from the r/t mine has 20s also r/t the rim only fits the back so if I get front flat I have to take tire off back put it on front then put spare on back. the interior noise from the road when window is open is horriable drowns out the radio. automatic 5.7 has multidisplacement engine which I didn't like plus I like manual. I was told with a diablo trinity t1000 you could turn off the multidisplacement if I knew that I probally would have went automatic. in the winter I have to warm up the car and like to keep it reving a little higher but the gas peddle being electronic makes it difficult. I am an old school car guy and could not wait for this car to come out. it looks like you have the same radio touch screen I do on the right there is a button that says nava that's the navigation but you have to pay for it. it gave me wrong directions thank the lord I knew where I was going it told me north when it was supposed to be south. theres to much electronic bullshit for a mussel car. man I could go on n on. I have a 70 cutlass convertible. I wish the cash I spent on this car went towards that car. or any older car I got rid of my hurst olds 1979 for this worst thing I ever did

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  4 года назад

      It depends on the type of steering wheel cover you want. Walmart and Amazon both have some and of course a Dodge dealership will have them (but you will pay plenty). A quick Google search should bring up plenty of options.

      Good point and if you aren’t driving on a track there aren’t too many opportunities to use the V8. Having said that the V8 does sound much better.

    If your planning on buying a muscle car how do you not buy the V8

    • @OurRideLife
      @OurRideLife  9 лет назад +12

      Very true the V8 is more traditional muscle car. But if you are only taking it on the street and driving legal speeds you won't get much a chance to use it (except for that wonderful V8 sound). Add in the more expensive gas (both in grade and mpg) and higher insurance as well as the higher cost of the car and the SXT may be the smarter purchase for many. Not saying that the V8 isn't preferred by most who would be looking at a Challenger.

      The Sports Car Guys The v6 is too weak if you want a real trill. I drove this one and the V6 Camaro. V8 luxury cars with about the same hp seemed to be faster. I drove the the r/t and still wish it was a little quicker, and I'm not even a hardcore sports car person. When I drove the base automatic c6 corvette that was were the trill was at. As far as opening these cars up I feel like you have many chances to do so without getting a ticket. The r/t will give you a sports car feeling, but it is not scary fast like the vette that you could get used for less money. For me the v6 is not to even be considered. I've driven both and the r/t is the way to go hands down. I am not a v6 hater, but this one doesn't perform imo.

    • @motorcityman401
      @motorcityman401 9 лет назад +5

      drjd2real You're wrong it does perform and quite nicely.
      The 3.6 Pentastar V6 is ONLY 1 second slower in the quarter mile than the 5.7 HEMI. My 2014 Rallye Redline does 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds which is damn good for a almost 4,000lbs car.The NEW 2015's V6 with the 8 speed tranny is even faster.
      Now 1 second is a lot on the track but on the street where 99% of the drivers will use these cars it's hardly noticeable.
      Also the 5.7 Hemi weighs almost 500lbs! The 3.6 Pentastar V6 weighs only about 178lbs that means over 300lbs LESS weight over the front end which means the V6 will handle twisty roads BETTER than the Hemi.....not to mention getting about 5MPG better at the pump.
      Bottom line is for a every day driver the SXT or V6 is the way to go for good performance and MPG and good handling for a large car.
      Only thing I miss about the Hemi is the awesome exhaust sound with a nice aftermarket exhaust.

      You sound like everybody else who has something negative to say about a v6 challenger. Some people love the car for the brand and design + it's acceptable performance. You're either a racer or a driver,if you're a driver them there is nothing wrong with getting a v6,racers feel the need for a v8.
