Awesome comments already guys, got the RTX 3050 review dropping tomorrow too, so stay tuned!
Omg I am waiting
Waiting for price drops🙄
Is it good for triple screen racing?
Hi @Tech Yes City, I'm interested in getting this processor and pair it with h610 motherboard. I have a query on that which is given h610 does not allow memory overclocking will it run 3200mhz ram at 2400mhz and disable us from running it at rated speed? If it runs on 2400 how much performance will i lose?
@@KuipersRacing it's basically 1660s performance with RTX features
As always, good review.
I got my i3-10100f with Gigabyte B460 Aorus Pro and 2x8G 2666hhz Kingston Hyper mem in Sept 2020, its still good for me.
I need rather get some good deal gpu to replace my GTX1050.
I agree your 10100F is fine for gaming but if you want a little more fps, there are two things you can do.
(1) Tweak your memory timings. For example: My 2666 Mhz ram timings are 14-17-17-36-335-1T
tRFC timing affects gaming fps. Be sure to lower it.
(2) Get a pci-e sound card (not usb sound)
A pci-e sound card will give a few more fps, especially when the cpu is near 100% usage
Haven't seen one of your vids for a while. Loving the C&C music at the end
Great presentation and well balanced. Thank you
Definitely a thorough assessment!
I bought the 12700k over some ryzen options and while it ended up being a better option the price of the motherboards were definitely surprising to me as someone who hasn't upgraded since skylake.
how are prices of motherboards? High or low?
@@warrax111 I paid 220 for a basic ddr4 z690 ( MSI one) with no wifi and frills. I think that feels pretty high to mme.
@@vgamedude12 yes. It's quite high, for last years. But... before ultra cheap motherboards it was like that.
I've calculated according inflation, how much costed motherboards around year 2000, and it was around 280-400$ for mid range motherboards. The higher one, Abit and Asus costed like 500-600$.
So it's still quite cheap, when you compare it with history.
You could have paid just $30 more and get a much better motherboard.
@@gurjindersingh3843 Not really sure what else I would need. I don't need wifi, don't want ddr5 etc.
Thanks for answering my question! I have a Snowman, might see if I can find a suitable power monitor sometime and do a real test, see what happens just for lols. :D I'm sure you're right though, probably just a small difference.
I recently got a bundle containing:
Asus TUF Gaming B660M-PLUS D4
i5-12400F
Corsair 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200MHz
Asus GeForce RTX 3060 PHOENIX LHR 12GB
for 840€, I think that was a pretty good deal considering GPU prices atm. Really feels like the i5-12400F fits perfectly in something like this.
I got the exact same ram gpu motherboard and gpu lol
Hi are you still using the same pc ? Have you noticed any bending problems?
ahh what a bummer. I was waiting for your review to say what was the honest opinion. I was looking up for this cpu maybe was the time I upgrade. ohh well next gen is just another year away :P

I'd love to see you get an asrock h670 riptide and test with this cpu along with the non k 12 series skus that are coming in the future. The value prospects look amazing.
thanks man. good to see some New World benchies as well man.
Can always count on the Tech Yes Man to prioritize that Price/Performance!👍❤
Great video! Lets hope that ASUS starts making DDR4 Mobos capable of overclocking. der8auer made a great video about non K OC for Alder Lake on ASUS mobos. That is really gonna change the budget cpu landscape.
Great video mate
Thanks for this 🙏🏻
Had been really cool to see a video with the 12400F/12100F and a "der8auer non K OC" compared to the results in this video
Yea, I'm surprised he didn't OC it, one of the first TechYesCity videos I watched was about BCLK overclocking non-K first gen. intel Core (and Xeon) CPUs.
Non K OCable Mobo cost as much as Z690 so it's better not to OC at this moment. Focus on memory still the top prio.
@@floorgang420 i come from future and B660M Rog Steix bclk chip unlock cost 150 bucks
Attention to those who want to buy.
Intel 12th Gen non-K CPU SA voltage(VCCSA) is locked at 0.92V, This causes the RAM to unstable under DDR4 3600MHz Gear 1 or higher , Even some RAM with XMP will not be able to boot.
Gear2 will introduce higher latency, which will result in lower framerates for gamers.
I don't know why Intel did this, maybe to give the K-series CPUs an edge, maybe it's to force users to buy expensive DDR5 RAM.
I just bought the 12700, I don't want to overclock, just want to use cheaper DDR4 RAM, But Intel takes away even that. I'm very disappointed now.
So I would like to remind people who want to buy Intel 12th Gen non-K CPU.
Don't waste your money on DDR4 3600 memory.
DDR4 3200 is the limit.
If you want better memory performance, buy DDR5 memory.
Or zen3 5600x+DDR4 3600 or higher.
Faster RAM isnt worth it for gaming anyways you are better off with 32gb 3200 than 16gb 4000 in the long run.
@@eclipsegst9419 Under the same capacity gear1, 4000c18>3600c16>3200c14
@@eclipsegst9419 Faster ram definitely is beneficial as well as having more of it. There is a diminishing of returns in performance in Ryzen when you start to go over 3600mhz just like the amount of ram you have when you go over 32gbs depending on your use case. 3600mhz with 32gbs is the sweet spot for the majority on Ryzen.
@@ZackSNetwork I've ran the numbers and the difference between the best and just regular rated-speed ram is not worth the dollars spent in my book. It will not give you any sort of difference you can see on your screen with your eyes, and next year a new cpu will render your "advantage" irrelevant. Or you could get a new GPU, also render it irrelevant. Now, if you already have the rest of your rig at the level you want and you have extra in the budget anyways? 1- I envy you but 2- sure get that last 5fps good on you. But i wouldn't recommend anyone on a budget worry about ram speed as any sort of main priority.
@@zkbskcwi2320 32GB DDR4 4000cl19 Trident Z costs 330 dollars. 3200cl14 costs 240 dollars. Thats just one brand but whatever, it's a 37.5% increase. You aren't going to see anywhere near a 37.5% performance increase, in anything. That's my point. Sure it is "better" but that doesn't mean it's worthwhile.
really happy with my 11400F, it was cheaper than ryzen 5 when i first bought it and ive been very happy with it
I get a 11400f, few days after 12600k launch, i know 12th was a nice improvement, but a decent motherboard is so expensive, i get a Msi b560m bazooka for 115€ brand new but a comparable lga1700 would cost at least 60% more
@@Tonyx.yt. that's actually the ONLY 11th Gen Intel chip worth buying. 15-20% better IPC performance and a better box cooler (copper slug) to boot!
@@gionieves2646 i dont even touched the box cooler and i used instead my old but good hyper x 212 evo.
despite completly unlocked power limit of the cpu, the temperatures are quite good, because unlike ryzen or 12th gen, the cpu die is very large and has an easier dissipation of power.
@@Tonyx.yt. surprisingly if you use the stock PL1 and PL2 the box cooler does perfectly fine. About 60-70s in gaming.

Great review
Now the value of these CPUs comes with the non k overclock capable motherboards der8auer presented in a review. I'm going to be building some new work PCs to accommodate a couple new workers and opted for waiting these mobos paired with locked i7s and it's going to be more performance and cheaper than Ryzen 5800x
10th gen still a solid buy, keep up the good work! 👍
I got the 10105 for $99.99 USD. What a deal for a work and school PC.
Ggs congrats
I’m doing a cpu upgrade in the next few weeks because my old 4690k just can’t handle halo infinite above 60 fps and discord at the same time. And as much as I’d love to get the 12400f because it’s the newest and the fastest etc etc, the fact that I can get a 10400f for $198 and a decent b560 mobo for $179 completely wipes the floor of the value proposition of the 12400f which costs $299 (not that bad, but still not great) and the equivalent b660 mobo which costs $349. $377 vs $648, the 12400f + mobo just doesn’t seem worth an extra 71% of the price of the 10400f + mobo imo. Especially considering I still have a GTX 970 so I doubt I’d see any performance increase in games with the 12400f over the 10400f since my GPU is so old so I’m almost certain to be GPU bound in everything I play
If you go for this the b660 that can bclk oc is a must! It will perform like the 12600k
i got a 12400f cpu on christmas 2022 for gaming and editing and a gtx 1660super and its awesome! thank you tech yes and i got a overkill cooler from thermalright (peerless assassin)
What mothedboard did you choose
Hi are you still using the same pc? And have you noticed any CPU bending? Can I buy?
I watched other videos and the benchmark result with 12400 use far less wattage (almost half) when compared to 5600x. Which one is the right one?
What cooler would you recommend for this? I'm looking at simple 120mm rad AIOs and maybe even that Ventroo 5, you have any you've tested you like?
Thank you so much @Tech Yes City. I have a question regarding your final thoughts. If one were to wait to buy an I5 12400 and an H610 motherboard, wouldn’t you be giving up memory overclocking ability? I haven’t looked at the specific differences of the newest chipsets for the 12th generation Intel Alder Lake platform. I’m going by what I know from past generations. Also does that make much of a difference with a CPU like this?
Yes on the H610 no overclocking and it is severely cut down in other areas as well. But on the bright side the 12100 and 12400 non K CPU's can be overclocked on some B660 motherboards through FSB overclocking. der8auer did a great article on this. Still I would not go down to H610 no matter what. Get the B660 at the very least to get the best out of 12th gen...I have a 12700K and I am more than impressed and happy as competition is back...

Seeing how close the 10400F was in the gaming benchmarks I completely agree with your conclusion. I've found the stock cooler is fine for the lower powered 10400F, however I did order a few 11th gen stock coolers as they have the all black look, but any cheap air cooler will do.
My 10400 gets to 72c max with the stock cooler.
@@propeldragon How many fans do you have in the case and does the case have good airflow ? 72 degrees at max temp is not going to do any damage to the CPU, but you can always get a cheap air cooler if you want to lower those temps.
@@rathstar it's on a open air test bench. I'm not worried about the temps. Theyre perfect. If anything, some better thermal paste might help a bit.

Hey Tech YES City great video as usual i wanna ask can u do a review on the i9 11900 ES QVYE its 190$ banger atm what do you think ??
I used a Asus Prime B660M-K which works fine. Didn't destroy my budget like the Z690 mobo does.
The stock LGA1700 cooler is just horrendously loud. It keeps the cpu degrees away from thermal throttling so i got a Hyper 212 evo V2 and now the temps are amazing.
I think ill get this. I am Upgrading from an athlon 860k. Cpu ram and Mobo are getting a swap and its will cost me under 400 for an upgrade and thiw review just answered exactly what I want this cpu to do
That's funny. My stock cooler with the 3600 would always peg at 95 degrees full-bore and clock down to almost base clocks at all core workloads (3.6-3.65ghz). I got a Snowman and got it down to 70-80 at peak utilization, with boost clocks now in the 3.9ghz range - thus I did still lose performance by using the stock AMD cooler.
That i7 vs i3/i5 fact is why I got 4000Mhz DDR4. It might not be as good as 3600 with a lower latency but people see a higher number.
speed trump lower latency so your argument makes less sense than other stuff written on RUclips - kidding, its all crazy dumb
@@PuppetMasterdaath144 If you say so. That's why DDR5 is SO FAR ahead of DDR4. Lol

Me who invested in a Ryzen 5 3600 back in July 2019, smiling in the corner knowing it was a worthwhile investment.
The 12600K only adds 10% faster clock speeds and 4 ecores which adds a few frames only when you're CPU bound and already above 120 frames. It also slurps more power and runs up the thermals. The 12100 was going for almost the same price, so the extra 2 cores of the 12400 was only $40.
12600K is much smoother, gives better 1% low

YESMAN hows that Asrock z690 Taichi board on overclocking>?
The associated costs are not a problem, because you meet them in both amd and intel worlds... For example, amd's factory coolers may be adequate but they sound like a helicopter, so yes, you'll need an aftermarket cooler for intel and amd cpus. Now, about the motherboards, the new b660 and z690 come loaded with new technologies and they are still new in the market. It is expected to be much more expensive than the 560's and the 590's... Wait some months and their prices will go down as happens always (let's leave aside the chip "shortage phenomenon"). Always the new technology, the first months, ask for more money... The same can be said for the DDR5 too. So I don't see any disadvantage on 12400f. Besides, you have not any other alternative option in the amd world... Whatever new part buy NOW in the AMD platform , will be obsolete in a few months when series 7xxx come out, because then, for the new cpu, will need new motherboard, new cooler and new RAM (only DDR5) and they will be more expensive (as new technologies) too ... But with 12400f you can keep the motherboard and the DDR4 for one more generation next year...
Thank you
11:15 Does the Snowman cooler work for LGA1700?
Since a decent Motherboard cost is really high in my country i think going on older gen cpu is the option for me. i was tempted to get the i3-12100f but i still dont know if i really want to get that since the cost of the i3-12100f and cheapest bare bone motherboard in my country is the same as going Ryzen 7 2700 and a B450M Mortar Max. but still im not really rushed either since the GPU Price is still not looking great either in here.
Also my montly salary is only $110 so its really hard for me to spend money even if its just another $5-10

My 12400f has been amazing coupled it with a RTX 3060ti and honestly I regret the GPU more than the CPU. But I'm waiting for the 5 series to come out.
How much of a difference in performance is there on DDR4? I don't believe for one second a budget builder will be or should be buying DDR5 for that build. I would imagine good 3200 or 3600 would be 3-7% less performance, depending on the use. Depending on the use case, going up a CPU tier or doubling the Ram would be a better idea than DDR5. Obviously DDR5 would show its value, once you migrate it to a future build.
DDR5 is not worth buying yet because it's too new so it's not reached it's optimum performance and price. Software is also not coded to fully utilise it. I'll go to a DDR5 machine in a couple of years when prices and supply are standardised.
I am veerry fine with my 5600x which gets around the same fps in reality as the 5950x and a little bit less than the 12900k in a few games...Although the 5800x for 340 is clearly the better choice against the 5600x for 270 (in Germany) when it comes to multicore and synthetic benchmarks in terms of price/performance, more than 95% of my time spent on ma Gaming Rig I dont even fully need the 6 cores on the CPU, Gaming (+ Streaming) is usually the most demanding action taken by myself. In addition to that my 5600x is more efficient and has lower temps in the same tasks...the same story could obviously be written with the 12400F ;)
Will this cpu be good for one pc gaming/streaming builds?

I have a GTX 1070, and ordered this over an i3 12100F. I was looking for an upgrade from a B460M-A Pro and i3 10100F, and was recommended B660 and an i3 12100F, cause of my budget, and I ordered both, but ultimately decided to cancel the i3 order and splurge and get the i5 12400F after seeing it was recommended by benchmark over the i3 for gaming.
My issue at the time, and right now while I wait for the parts, is I am CPU bottlenecked in MWII. Would this be okay to be paired with a 1070? I just want to stop the bottleneck lol. I do plan on getting a Hyper 212 EVO v2 as a nice budget cooler, but that's not for a week or two. Would it also be okay to use the stock cooler until then for gaming?

12100 is calling my name. Even with B660 pricing i can resell my 3300x/B550 for most of the cost of 12100/B660. I made a call when i bought my 3300x. I placed my bet that single threaded gains from this performance war would be so high that 4c/8t would be plenty enough for gaming again very quickly, and i could ride those gains for a small cost per year. When 13th gen i3 comes out ill plop one in, then when meteor lake comes out ill resell the mobo at a small loss again. @@rhonpen5388 wifi would be nice. Actually LTT thrashed this board (using 11900k to be fair, which is not practical for this board). Since then, it is bugging my mind. There is a feeling established in my mind that other board will fully utilize 11400
I bot the 12400f and paired it with a Gigabyte b660m hs3d DDR4 motherboard. It works great with 3200mghz memory. The most its drawing with stock settings at full load is 54 watts and a cinebench 20 score of 4707. At full load stock cooler keeps it at 71c. I put on a shadow rock 3 cooler from Be Quiet and can't get it above 54c at full load. Love it.
Are you satisfied with your mobo i heared bad reviews about it and i m thinking about buying 12400 and this mobo
@@azharriaz14 I am, Cinebench score is 12200. The memory is running at advertised speed with XMP on in BIOS (3200 mghz). The cpu is running at 4.3 single core and 3.99 all core. Temps are running at 54c under heavy load with a Be Quiet shadow Rock3 installed. 70c with the included cooler installed. No problems so far and it's running everyday 9+ hours for 3 weeks.
@@cerescop so this mobo is good i jave 3200mhz rams 2 8gb sticks cl 18 i think and coolermaster ma410M cooler waiting for this mobo though. I was concerned by the performance of this mobo thats why i asked you
@@azharriaz14 My ram is 18-18-18-38 cl16. Could I have done better with the mobo, yes, for more money. I have had no complaints so far with the motherboard. It is functioning and doing what I wanted. The chip doesn't put out a lot of heat about any aftermarket cooler will do well. Good luck.
@@cerescop In my area i m getting Gigabyte b660 ds3h not hs3 what should i do
Did you enable turbo boost?
Hi, I'm planning to get a new PC. Need your kind advice about the PC specs below:-
i5 12400F + RTX 3060 8GB
_____________________________
Intel I5 12400F 6c 12t @ 2.5~4.4ghz
MSI PRO B660M E Motherboard
Zadak 8GB 3200 RGB DDR4
Inno3D / Palit RTX 3060 12GB
Invasion / Silverstone 600W 80+ Power Supply
MSI Vampiric R100 Casing
240GB M.2 SSD
Toshiba 1TB HDD With Games
= Total cost USD 1068.
Do you think the total price is worth it with the specs above? Need some suggestions on this. Thank you.
I think for a good all around mid level gaming system, the 12400 and even the 12100 are actually very good value especially as DDR4 is so cheap so all told $400 gets you a decent platform with the 12400/B660 and DDR4 ram at 3600 and that will allow for upgradability in the future. Problems as always, right now is the GPU prices have thrown everything into a tail spin and thus going second hand like 10th gen Intel, AMD 3600 etc really comes into play as the more you can save towards your GPU the better right now. Still if you are buying NEW right now then 12th gen is the stronger platform. I wish AMD would seriously drop prices of the 5600X/5800X etc and they need to produce low end CPU's for the next cycle as right now Intel have that all tied up with a bow!
Can you put a 4070 ti graphic card in this computer
I'm considering prebuilt CyberPowerPC with this i5 and RTX 3060 (12GB RAM), but the company doesn't tell me the exact motherboard. I need it for not advanced Blender work and some basic gaming. I can't make my mind up if it will be a good setup 😬
Based cpu
I do think that H610 mb with 12400 is a good price/performance combo, and I do consider it as an upgrade for my current system (it's not perfect, but with prices in my area it's good enough) but right now I don't have good enough GPU to feel the difference, so I will pass for now...
honestly the same, no matter how good the new cpus/platforms look, I'll have to upgrade my gpu forst to feel the difference
Safe the money and get a 660 board. 610s area ok for a 12100.... Not a 12400. Very weak power delivery and not worth the $20-40 difference. I got an ASRock B660M for $95 for a 12400 and it works flawlessly.
B 660 and non k i7 or i9 with bclk oc could be great value.
@@gionieves2646 it's enough for what I do, I'm not 144Hz AAA gamer, but in my country price difference for those is huge ($120 is only a H610 board)
there is a 99dls h610 on amazon but i dont know if i should get it seems very very cheap. then we have 660s but the cheapest one is 140...
What about testing this chip with a H610 board or a cheap B660 board. The "forever boosting" is not unlocked on all motherboards. From what I understand from Intel it isn't unlocked at all on H610 and is only on some B660 boards. This means that only Z690 has full boosting capabilities (unlimited time PL2). This also destroys the value of the chip relative to its performance. Especially considering that the 12400F + a B660 board is about the same price as a 5600x + B450/B550 board.
Is it me or is the i3 12100F in some graphs better than the i5 12400F, OK only some FPS more but wow, how did that happend and what is with the overclocking Potential? "Der 8auer" Roman found an easy way to overclock an i5 12400 (Not "K") or is that only posible with the non "F" Variant?
I would argue the 12100f is best value due to it being 130 bucks but only a hair slower than a 5600x in multicore work loads and most likely far better in gaming if the i3 is overclocked a lot.
Edit, so apparantly intel 12th gen cpus love to bend so much to the point the pc wont boot. So yeah I would like to take back all my words. And stay away from this low quality socker 1700. Anything is better really
@@tilburg8683 should I go for ryzen 5 5600x Or 12400f?
@@FactusCactus 12400f is faster way faster if you oc it, I got my i3 12100f to be just like 2%+/- slower in cpuz multicore and im pretty sure it was 30%+ faster in single core.
But I did get issues with the cpu bending. Not that amd has no issues I got some faulty 5600x once that I ended up just returning and waiting longer to see what would come out next.
And the intel issue is common enough to were its a known problem, and intel knows it but like its supposed to be like that.
Were as the amd thing obviously not, and is refundable were as the intel thing not.
@@tilburg8683 I mean u got a faulty 5600x, but have u ever tried 5600x in a good condition and compared with 12400f?
@@FactusCactus yeah just compare results in the cpuz database. It has nothing to do with my faulty 5600x im just saying how things are intels cpus are way faster a overclocked 12400f could get close to a r7 maybe overtake it. But amd is more reliable, and there arent many boards for intel to overclock so you have limited options.
Its just intel is way faster and amd is more reliable and depending on what board you buy maybe a little cheaper. Altho it looks like you really want pcie 4.0 now so motherboards will be priced around the same if you have the same pricing as where I live
Can i use this cpu with a rtx 3080?
