I use 24-24.2 grains of H110 with large pistol primer under 240 grain flat nose projectile at 1.61 OAL and my Henry Big Boy groups fantastic 👌🏻

That is a serious load. The rifles can be pretty accurate with the right load. Thanks for watching

Never tried 4227 in 44mag until I saw my buddy accuracy with it since then my new powder is 4227 not as fast as 110 but real close and 1in groups in my super redhawk

Judging by the tight velocity spread on the rifle barrel, I would say 16” is a good length to get full powder burn. Interesting stuff, thanks for sharing.

I am surprised at the close velocity spread myself. I hope the accuracy is just as good. I will do another video in a few days. Thanks for the comment

The 16" looks like the perfect length with your load, it's more consistent because you're getting a complete burn of the powder before the bullet leaves the barrel. With the shorter lengths I use faster and faster burning powder in my 44's, A 4" Taurus M66, a 6.5" S&W 629 Classic and a Rossi stainless M92 with a 16.5" barrel. Red Dot is very accurate in all, then I move up to Unique or Power Pistol and for the rifle Enforcer, 2400 or IMR4227 gets the nod.

I'm not a huge fan of the XTP for hunting with a 44mag, in my experience lacks enough penetration and if pushed at higher velocities tends to fragment to much. I like N110, burns clean at near max load with a low ES. Also Power Pistol and Long shot burn nice and clean with low ES. HS6 I find is better for 44 special, dirty in Magnum. I use a 629 Mountain gun and a 20" 1894 Marlin Classic. In the rifle I've gone to fully bonded HP bullets or coated EK style at 240 & 300 gr. Going to try some solid copper bullets next. Will be interested to see your results.

Thank you for the great comment. My Winchester mod 94 doesn't like the 300 gr bullets. I cast my own 240 gr Keith bullet and just recently started powder coating them. That would be a good option pushed 1500 FPS of so. I am surprised to hear you don't like the Hornady XTP. My brother went to Texas hunting white tail the guys down there told him they love the 44 mag marlin with the XTP's. Thanks for watching You might like my other channel 10 cow ranch horses, cows and such. Thank you in advance

Xtp's hold together fine. The 180 sometimes grenades, but not until you get closer to 1800 fps or higher. The 240gr holds together well, especially at your velocities in this video. I've seen em and used them on hogs and black bear and they drive deep, and hold together. You're not going to push that 240gr xtp fast enough to blow it up. Trust me, I've tried and it gets unpleasant as all get out to shoot!!!

So warm, but not hot. I ordered 7 boxes of underwood 240gr xtp 44 mag and they load for 1500fps out of a 7.5 inch barrel and get it. I have a 7.5 inch super Blackhawk that was made in 1974.

I know that you aren’t a big fan of H110, but that’s what I like to shoot out of my 7 1/2” Ruger SBH.
I load the minimum or starting load with a Winchester large pistol primer. Winchester only uses one primer for all loads with large pistol.
With 240 XTP, I can print a 1 1/2” group @ 100 yards with that pistol. I haven’t chrongraphed this load but I should take the time to do that sometime. I carry it during late muzzleloader season here in Iowa. No deer last year but hope to harvest one this year.

The Hodgdon website shows the starting load with H110 1400 FPS with a 8 3/8 inch barrel. That is pretty hot for the Smith 629. My goal was to step in down slightly to use as a carry load in the smith. I have heard on people having great results with H110 similar to yours. I hope you get to harvest a deer with your Ruger SBH. That is one of the funnest things I have ever done. Thanks for the great comment

Good to see that the 4 inch barrel didnt lose very much velocity. I have a model 69 with a 2.75 inch barrel. I am hoping it has a good velocity for how much it kicks.

Those short barreled 44's do kick like a mule I always wanted a 629 with a 3 inch barrel but I think the 4 inch is just right. I had a 4 inch 69 but I could never get it to shoot very good and traded it for the 629 I have now. I hope you have good luck with your 69. Thanks for watching

Pressure pushes bullets up to speed. Heavier bullets build up more pressure in the first couple inches of barrel than lighter bullets do, making them ideal for the shorter barrels. The heavier the bullet, the less performance is lost.

If I'm going shorter than my 7.5 inch super Blackhawk I'll carry my 44 special. Lol@@chrisevansgunshorsesranchi699

I know this video is about 44 mag but I was wondering if you have a single 7 .327 federal ruger and work up a load for it
