      For sure on this one! RM has a reputation for not being the most respectful or appreciative person, but he was both (and then some) here! Catching a pass from Montana is still on my bucket list. If he ever goes broke he could charge like $5,000 a throw for people to catch a pass from him and I guarantee he'd have people lining up!

      But Tom had something nobody has, an intelligence agency or a cheating franchise that allowed Tom to operate his offense with fresh and forward knowledge of defensive setups. It would be wise for the crybaby cheater to retire now. Once he starts playing for the Bucs, he will expose his weaknesses and announce to the football world that he is indeed an ordinary QB.

    • @rickbruner
      @rickbruner 10 лет назад +2

      I think you need to go deeper in your analysis of who is the greatest receiver of all time. It's too simplistic to just say first, second, end of discussion. But, yes, they are the top two hands down. Here are some specific criteria and how Moss and Rice compare.
      1. Work ethic/discipline - You wouldn't think it from listening to the stereotypes, but Moss trained hard. Take a look at videos of his off season workouts in 90 degree Florida heat. Yet, nobody comes close to Rice. He and Walter Payton were probably the hardest workers in NFL history (and maybe the most competitive).
      2. Consistency/longevity/stats - This is an offshoot of the 1st category and, again, Jerry Rice wins. His diligence, professionalism, preparation, and consistent play translated into a marathon career and stratospheric stats well above Moss', although Randy is #2 in history in most categories. Conversely, Moss was mercurial, especially when defenses could neutralize the long ball. And, of course, his controversial attitude didn't help his longevity.
      3. Hands - Toss up. Both had the gift. Maybe Moss gets the edge simply because he caught so many balls with 2 guys hanging on him and could easily catch a ball with one hand when his other was impaired.
      4. Pure atheticism/speed - Here's where you could make the case that Moss is the greatest receiver of all time. Rice doesn't even come close to Moss' speed, height, wing span, and jumping abilities. Rice was part of a new West Coast offense that changed defensive schemes and revolutionized the game. Yet Moss INDIVIDUALLY revolutionized the game. Other teams had to create new defensive schemes to try to stop Moss ALONE. Teams in the NFC Central Division began drafting more taller and faster cornerbacks and safeties when Moss came on the scene just to stop him. Ole' "Go Fetch Randy" was a true disruptive force... a paradigm shift.
      5. Big play threat - Again, Moss has the edge because, in his prime, defenses always had to stack against the long ball and then Moss might beat them with a short sideline catch followed by an 80 yard TD run. If you couldn't impede him immediately after a quick catch, Moss' acceleration and 4.2 speed would leave 5 or 6 defenders clutching at air. Conversely, Rice was much better than Moss at extending plays in traffic and up the middle. What he lacked in speed, he made up for with quick feet, all around strength, and elusiveness.
      6. All around skills - No question, Rice wins here. His more compact size helped make him more versatile than Moss. He could simply do more things well which is why he rarely was shut down in a game.
      7. Coming through in big games - Moss can't compete with Rice here. First, Moss' post season stats are mediocre compared to his career stats. Rice's post season stats are stellar (Super Bowl MVP, etc). Second, Moss simply didn't have as many chances to distinguish himself in post season play as Rice did. Had he appeared in 3 Super Bowls like Rice, he might have had some big games.
      Because of his big game performances and his stats, I'd give the nod to Rice, but the "who's the greatest" question is far from a no brainer.

    Are you serious? I would love to see how Brady would've survived against those defenses of the time. I would also love to see Montana play with all of the rules that are enforced in today's game(which is heavily favored for the offense). And one more thing... Brady couldn't scramble to save his life. If the pocket collapses then it's an automatic sack for the defense... you put Montana in that same position and it's a completely different story. P.S. It took Brady 6 Superbowl tries to break Montana's touchdown record, and Montana NEVER threw an interception in his 4 Superbowl appearances... so I would take 4-0 vs 4-2 any day.

      U do know Brady played in the early to mid '00s when defenses could still play defense right? There's literally a video out there of Brady taking a huge hit against the Bills and getting right back up quickly (Look it up). I'd like to see Montana take a huge hit like that and get up... 6 year old comment so I'm sure you've changed your mind by now, and btw, 4-2 is better than 4-0.....

    Moss and Rice - it's always a debate, but nobody debates who is the most gifted athlete of the two. And what if Randy Moss had spent the majority of his career catching passes from Joe Montana and Steve Young? I don't even want to think about it because I respect both Randy Moss and Jerry Rice so much. Edit: And yeah, I'm a Cowboys fan, but Montana is at the top of my all-time QB list. I watched him play in the 80's and early 90's. No QB has been as thrilling and clutch.

    Joe took the laughing stalk of the NFL a place no one wanted to play, a place that took a coach who the rest of the league was black balling because they were so desperate for any success. A team that went back to back years of 2-14 and he turned them into a dynasty and got 4 rings in 9 years. Brady took over a team a team just a few years removed from a super bowl appearance themselves, who had just one bad season before he got there with anyone in that current staff and it took him 14 years to get 4 rings and he had a drought of 10 years of not getting a ring. Had joe had the protection rules we have today the man would have had more. It took hits that are illegal today to have even beaten the man. So don't give me the whole Brady does more with less. Defenses are having to do less these days. Plus Brady has played more games with Gronk than Joe had with any 49er

      All good things must come to an end at some point. Joe was getting older, as was Ronnie Lott, Roger Craig, and others. The 49er's at some point had to start planning and building towards the "future." Steve Young trained with Montana with the ultimate plan to succeed him. Everyone, including Joe was aware of this. We would have Loved to see Bill Walsh remain with the 49er's, or many others, but it was time for them to go to make room for other or younger talent. That's how it works and the name of the game in the NFL. :-)

      ***** I agree but he did kind of get carried sometimes by irvin and emitt. Jimmy J handled the personalities but i agree winning three in any era is a tough thing to do. Bradshaw got carried by his defense even though he played well so he doesn't make my top 5. Unitas definitely could make it over marino but i think marino was the better passer. idk they are all legends it's just how you wanna split em. The top three imo are a lock tho, regardless of order.

      +bcmoykg if u look at his stats it was really average tbh.. he only had one year throwing over 20 tds..he never reached over 3500 in passing ever.. he got in cause of the superbowls.. look at his superbowl days he had 11, 23 , 12.. the dallas was what the alabama is in football now.. a great rb and good defense a great wr and a average qb.. my list is
      montana
      brady
      elway

You can't put him in 6-10 because you can't put him ahead of guys like steve young, roger stauhbach, bart starr, bradshaw, etc.

    • @mritizwatitiz
      @mritizwatitiz 8 лет назад

      well... on my list i have brees #1 manning #2 brady #3 montana #4 and favre #5. i feel like people dont give drew brees and payton manning the credit they deserve because of their lack of defenses... if ty law didnt pick off kurt warner and returned it for a td the patriots wouldve lost that 2002 superbowl, if ty law didnt pick off payton manning 3 times in the 2004 afc championship game the pats wouldve never made it to the superbowl, if brady defense didnt get 4 turnovers in the 2005 superbowl brady wouldve never won that superbowl, and who's to say that if malcom butler didnt pick off russel wilson the seahawks wouldnt have won the 2014 superbowl? it is very possible that brady couldve had 0 rings if he had no defence. and joe montana played with 6 other hall of famers throughout his career and one of those hall of famers he played with used stickum... i know you're probably thinking that manning played with 2 hall of fame receiver but what was marvin harrison and reggie wayne when they didnt have payton manning? outside of jimmy graham how many above average receivers brees had? i put brees ahead of manning because even tho manning hold most qb records brees is on pace to eclipse all of manning stats if he play as long, plus he hold the record for the highest completion % in a career even tho the other team know he's going to throw the all 40+ times a game. and i should mention... drew brees completed atleast 72% of his passes in his last 6 games and atleast 77% in 4 of those 6 games. also drew brees steps his game up whenever the saints make the playoffs.

Montana always seemed cool,calm and collected. He'd done his homework. So..... How many interceptions did he throw in the NFC championship game against the freaking Starheads? The game known for "The Catch"? THREE! That's right fellow 49er fans. Three fucking interceptions! They were lucky to win. Nay! They won despite a not stellar performance by Montana.
