Montana didn't have the arm to take advantage of Moss's freaky deep speed. Looks good on paper, but realistically, Jerry Rice was perfectly suited for Montana because of precise route running and run after the catch ability and agility. Someone like Marvin Harrison would have been perfect for Montana. Marino and Moss? Now that would have been unstoppable.
If he played for Kansas City, the hit didn't end his career. He probably would have won a super bowl with them if not for Marty Shottenhiemer playing percentages instead of just trusting Joe to win the game.

Yes, Montana is 4-0, but I'd rather go to 6 superbowls and lose 2 than to make it to only 4. That's just my opinion. Montana was "one and done" in the playoffs more than Brady. The numbers favor Brady throughout their careers. #TEAMBRADY
Gus Batayeh Brady has played for the same head coach his whole career. Montana had three different head coaches and several OC's. Montana won two superbowls without Jerry Rice and John Taylor. In 1981 and 1984 he had only Dwight Clark as a HOF receiver. People forget that Joe won 2 superbowls without Rice and Taylor and without Roger Craig in his prime (1 with no Roger Craig at all in 1981). Most coaches would have retired after their 5th superbowl appearance but not Belicheat! He stayed on after two superbowl losses to the Giants so that he could tie the great Chuck Knoll of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970's with 4 superbowl wins. But Chuck Knoll was 4-0 in superbowl appearances and won in the much more difficult era of the 1970's NFL. Belicheat and Brady went 4-2 in superbowl appearances with their final win coming in the weak rule inflated fake ass football era of the Roger Goodell's soft NFL. When Joe Montana played football you could actually hit QB's in the head and below the knees and do the same to WR's. In today's weak ass soft NFL you can not do any of this. The Goodell era rules have inflated offensive statistics and made offensive football much more easier than any other period of pro football in the super bowl era. The rule prohibiting hitting QB's below the knees was put in place after Brady sat out the 2008 season with an achilles injury that happened after he was hit below the knees. In today's weak ass soft NFL the 5"11 Russell Wilson can be successful and win even superbowls. No way this happens before the Goodell era rules were put in place. Finally, what great defenses has Brady played against? Was it the 80's Bears or Giants? Was it the 1990 NY Giants? NO! The only good defenses he played against in the superbowl were two Coughlin's Giants defenses and the Seahawks reduced Legion of Boom this past year in 2015. The Legion of Boom was not even nearly as good as they were in the 2014 superbowl because of the loss of players and injury. His record in these superbowls against just good, not great defenses, were 1-2. The Belicheat and Brady do not even win the superbowl this past year 2015 if they do not rent CB Darrell Revis, which says nothing positive about Brady as a QB. Joe Montana is 4-0, 2 without Rice and Taylor, 1 without Bill Wash. Joe Montana played in a real football era not the soft and weak ass Goodell era. CONCLUSION: Tom Brady is a top 10 qb in football history but Joe Montana was the best QB ever in my humble opinion.
John Taylor was no chump. Remember, Bill Walsh ran rhe west coast offense. Moss doesnt play slot where rhe WC is most effective. The best reciever to fit on the other side of Rice (Besides JT) would be Tim Brown, Art Monk or even Larry Fitzgerald. Honorable mention: Chris Carter.

@@mikemichael2317 I grew up watching Randy Moss as a kid and the Randy I remembered was a trash talking, loud mouthed and hilariously outspoken cocky WR which he had the right to be since he was the best. I had never seen him conduct an interview before so it took me back to see that WR I remember watching growing up turn into a great interviewer. Surprised me how naturally it came to him. Pretty sick
IMO, Joe Montana is the greatest quarterback of all time...4 Super Bowl championships...(yah, I know, there's that other guy who won 4 in Pittsburgh...but uhhh nooo, don't even go there)....props to Randy Moss for his respect for the legend.....Randy is arguably the SECOND greatest receiver of all time...the FIRST??...thay other guy Joe used to throw to in San Francisco....nooooo, not John Taylor...lol
I think you need to go deeper in your analysis of who is the greatest receiver of all time. It's too simplistic to just say first, second, end of discussion. But, yes, they are the top two hands down. Here are some specific criteria and how Moss and Rice compare. 1. Work ethic/discipline - You wouldn't think it from listening to the stereotypes, but Moss trained hard. Take a look at videos of his off season workouts in 90 degree Florida heat. Yet, nobody comes close to Rice. He and Walter Payton were probably the hardest workers in NFL history (and maybe the most competitive). 2. Consistency/longevity/stats - This is an offshoot of the 1st category and, again, Jerry Rice wins. His diligence, professionalism, preparation, and consistent play translated into a marathon career and stratospheric stats well above Moss', although Randy is #2 in history in most categories. Conversely, Moss was mercurial, especially when defenses could neutralize the long ball. And, of course, his controversial attitude didn't help his longevity. 3. Hands - Toss up. Both had the gift. Maybe Moss gets the edge simply because he caught so many balls with 2 guys hanging on him and could easily catch a ball with one hand when his other was impaired. 4. Pure atheticism/speed - Here's where you could make the case that Moss is the greatest receiver of all time. Rice doesn't even come close to Moss' speed, height, wing span, and jumping abilities. Rice was part of a new West Coast offense that changed defensive schemes and revolutionized the game. Yet Moss INDIVIDUALLY revolutionized the game. Other teams had to create new defensive schemes to try to stop Moss ALONE. Teams in the NFC Central Division began drafting more taller and faster cornerbacks and safeties when Moss came on the scene just to stop him. Ole' "Go Fetch Randy" was a true disruptive force... a paradigm shift. 5. Big play threat - Again, Moss has the edge because, in his prime, defenses always had to stack against the long ball and then Moss might beat them with a short sideline catch followed by an 80 yard TD run. If you couldn't impede him immediately after a quick catch, Moss' acceleration and 4.2 speed would leave 5 or 6 defenders clutching at air. Conversely, Rice was much better than Moss at extending plays in traffic and up the middle. What he lacked in speed, he made up for with quick feet, all around strength, and elusiveness. 6. All around skills - No question, Rice wins here. His more compact size helped make him more versatile than Moss. He could simply do more things well which is why he rarely was shut down in a game. 7. Coming through in big games - Moss can't compete with Rice here. First, Moss' post season stats are mediocre compared to his career stats. Rice's post season stats are stellar (Super Bowl MVP, etc). Second, Moss simply didn't have as many chances to distinguish himself in post season play as Rice did. Had he appeared in 3 Super Bowls like Rice, he might have had some big games. Because of his big game performances and his stats, I'd give the nod to Rice, but the "who's the greatest" question is far from a no brainer.
Jerry Rice used Stickum (a banned substance from the NFL) ugh uhhh looks like that title belongs to Moss and I don't even wanna get into this Brady Montana debate Brady is the greatest to ever do it compare his numbers against Montana's
I dunno, Montana just got back from a elbow injury and he has age a lot. He's been getting injured all the time too. So it only make since to go with the younger Steve Young. Joe would have been crush by the Cowboys defense at the time with his constant injuries.
All good things must come to an end at some point. Joe was getting older, as was Ronnie Lott, Roger Craig, and others. The 49er's at some point had to start planning and building towards the "future." Steve Young trained with Montana with the ultimate plan to succeed him. Everyone, including Joe was aware of this. We would have Loved to see Bill Walsh remain with the 49er's, or many others, but it was time for them to go to make room for other or younger talent. That's how it works and the name of the game in the NFL. :-)
If I was you I would watch the whole season when he broke the 23 touchdown record. You obviously don't keep up with him, I have been keeping up with him ever since Marshall
I know that was just a simple throw across a table. You could see the glint in Joes eye and the ease of which Randy can catch. Imagine those two played together in their prime sheesh.
first of all disrespect to the legend jerry rice....speaking of a moss fan....other than brady, if moss had a chance to work with legends or top great QBs in his earlier days unarguably moss would have been the greatest wide receiver to grace the field including having rings and had broken more receiving records
@@thegoat164 try to be more of a homer😂Brady only says that to be humble, he knows he’s the GOAT. Literally every HOF calls Brady the GOAT. Brady has passed Montana in everything and even one a ring outside of New England. Did Montana win a ring on another team?🤔😂
Moss and Rice - it's always a debate, but nobody debates who is the most gifted athlete of the two. And what if Randy Moss had spent the majority of his career catching passes from Joe Montana and Steve Young? I don't even want to think about it because I respect both Randy Moss and Jerry Rice so much. Edit: And yeah, I'm a Cowboys fan, but Montana is at the top of my all-time QB list. I watched him play in the 80's and early 90's. No QB has been as thrilling and clutch.
Joe Montana getting four was huge, I really thought that wouldn't be broken....just too tough. Along comes Tom, and I can't imagine anyone getting more than seven now. But....who knows....maybe.
Yeah Kansas City had a pretty good defense cuz they had Derrick Thomas and I guess with the addition of Joe Montana and Marcus Allen the offense was above average... But there was one more problem that they didn't realize that they did have... Marty schottenheimer!! He couldn't coach a championship mouse in a cheese eating contest!!
Joe was 37 and Steven Young was a 30 year old MVP in his prime. I understand the situation. Steve brought a few more super bowls to SF after the trade.
I miss Randy Moss on the Vikings, there's was nothing like watching him catch the long bombs against the fudge Packers. I jumped out of my seat pumping my fists a million times watching him catch touchdowns against the Packers.
I don't know why but Joe Montana looks like an actor. I would've never guessed the first time I saw him that he was a quarterback. Plus he looks so familiar outside of football.

Lucky Lucanio the problem is that both Owens and Rice wanted the football. Moss wants to win football games. Get him some big plays too, with Rice on the other side nobody is going to bracket cover him. They would have been just fine, and rewrote all the records.
nah...although gifted, moss didn't have the work ethic, stamina or drive of a jerry rice or montana...talent's overrated...rice came out of mississippi state and joe drafted in the third round...both, greatest of all time...
Randy is surprisingly a GREAT interviewer
Why is it surprising?
@@mikemichael2317 I grew up watching Randy Moss as a kid and the Randy I remembered was a trash talking, loud mouthed and hilariously outspoken cocky WR which he had the right to be since he was the best. I had never seen him conduct an interview before so it took me back to see that WR I remember watching growing up turn into a great interviewer. Surprised me how naturally it came to him. Pretty sick
Joe Cool Montana...In my humble opinion, the greatest QB
I love Joe, but Bill Walsh was a genius and knew exactly what he was doing
The key around his neck is the key to coolness
Because of his big game performances and his stats, I'd give the nod to Rice, but the "who's the greatest" question is far from a no brainer.
john taylor is seriously underrated in the history of wide receivers in nfl history
James West absolutely. the guy was among the greats.but not everyone gets the cred
Jerry Rice used Stickum (a banned substance from the NFL) ugh uhhh looks like that title belongs to Moss and I don't even wanna get into this Brady Montana debate Brady is the greatest to ever do it compare his numbers against Montana's
Tyson
The greatest.
That is cool! I know the Joe Montana Legacy. Joe Montana is the G.O.A.T. Quarterback.
I'm sure Joe Cool knows himself he's the great QB all time.
4-0
argument ends
***** but does he have 11 TD's 0 INT's
***** QB to QB though Terry doesn't compare.
***** Bradshaw 4-0..hahahha..as Michael Andrews so eloquently stated...Argument "STILL ENDS"
Brady 5-2
argument ends
Joe Montana.... The Catch, The Drive, Legend. Never liked Young.
ummm is that YOUU never liked Young or Joe never liked Young?? lol
*****
The dude still has it!!!!!! Just Legendary
Joe montana best all time 4-0 superbowl era
Right! Also don't forget 11 TD's and 0 Int's in those Super Bowls. He's the G.O.A.T!
Hes not the goat anymore 😂😂😂😂 move aside Montana it's bradys throne now
Michael cooks jr I woulda agreed 3 years ago but Brady is 5-2 with the greatet comeback ever... thrones passed
alex creed How many Super Bowls did Montana lose?
MisterTwister he won 4, he GOT to 4, Brady got to 7, he WON 5
No disrespect towards Steve Young, but the Niners should have kept Montana! Even though Steve won us one.
I dunno, Montana just got back from a elbow injury and he has age a lot. He's been getting injured all the time too. So it only make since to go with the younger Steve Young. Joe would have been crush by the Cowboys defense at the time with his constant injuries.
salamander337 right
This sounds like Alex smith and kaepernick
All good things must come to an end at some point. Joe was getting older, as was Ronnie Lott, Roger Craig, and others. The 49er's at some point had to start planning and building towards the "future." Steve Young trained with Montana with the ultimate plan to succeed him. Everyone, including Joe was aware of this. We would have Loved to see Bill Walsh remain with the 49er's, or many others, but it was time for them to go to make room for other or younger talent. That's how it works and the name of the game in the NFL. :-)
Yeah man... Montana just meant so much to that Niners team... He should a stayed there for his entire career...
Montana and moss would've rewrote history books
uhhhhhh, Montana had Rice. You know, Jerry Rice, GOAT? Yeah him. Rice>Moss
Garnet West LOL Moss don't like dink dunk passes
SMASH MOUTH FOOTBALL
Weird he liked them from Brady just fine.
patrick reusch selfish Randy only wants the deep ball! Wes Welker the perfect dink and dunk WR
If I was you I would watch the whole season when he broke the 23 touchdown record.
You obviously don't keep up with him, I have been keeping up with him ever since Marshall
Top 5 QB's ever.....
1. Joe Montana
2. Tom Brady
3. Dan Marino
4. Steve Young
5. John Elway
Just my opinion
Switch Marino and Elway
No manning??

JOE MONTANA
.
.
.
.
Everyone else.
No Peyton Manning ? This list is inaccurate!!!
Joe can still throw a pass flawlessly even after almost 30 years of retirement.
I know that was just a simple throw across a table.
You could see the glint in Joes eye and the ease of which Randy can catch. Imagine those two played together in their prime sheesh.
The four words that I will always remember most " Montana to Rice!..... TOUCHDOWN!!!"
first of all disrespect to the legend jerry rice....speaking of a moss fan....other than brady, if moss had a chance to work with legends or top great QBs in his earlier days unarguably moss would have been the greatest wide receiver to grace the field including having rings and had broken more receiving records
GOAT...... what else can you say
@@scottfree6479
Crybrady has the phoniest resume I have ever seen in my life.
@@thegoat164 Montana himself called Brady the GOAT and so did Rice. Cry about it
@@Speedy-pb6dc
Crybrady said MONTANA GOAT....cry about it. Rice has a GOAT tattoo on his arm...self explanatory.
I was 9 years old when i saw the catch ill mever forget that game i became a real football fan that day.
as always Joe still hits him in stride
Montana to Moss...Awesome 🔥
Greatest QB of all time throwing to the greatest WR of all time.
Also brady > Montana
wrothacker4 wrong. Wrong.
Rice. Brady.
Brady is the goat now and has been since 2016
The G.O.A.T Joe Cool!!!!!!💯💯💯💯💯
Joe is weird. The dude if wearing his house key around his neck like a 2nd grader.
Why does a second grader have a key lol?
perfect pass
Montana + Moss might have been greater than Montana + Rice.
for sure. moss would be at 25,000+ yards if he played that long with a godlike qb
He did, he played with Tom
Craig Mcminimee yeah for 3 seasons. Jerry Rice played with Joe Montana and Steve Young for 15 years
Yeh i guess your right, imagine what moss could have done if he played with someone like brady for 15 years haha
+Craig Mcminimee 30k recieving yards
I LOVE Moss so much man he is such a cool dude
Imagine if Randy lined up next to Rice & Taylor with Joe throwing the ball… 19 50-burgers?
Rice probably felt like a jealous gf after this LOL and Montana was like well now you know how I felt about you and Young LMFAO
How many would Joe have if he didn’t get hurt … I’m thinking at least 2!
Here is the difference between Montana and Brady, no one hates Montana. Plus the whole hissy fit thing.
I hate when people don't know their football he is a 4 time champion undefeated 3 time mvp
The 🐐
2014: A good year for sports
2015: A good time to live
2016: An exciting time for sports!
I miss it
I miss Randy Moss on the Vikings, there's was nothing like watching him catch the long bombs against the fudge Packers. I jumped out of my seat pumping my fists a million times watching him catch touchdowns against the Packers.
How would've Tom Brady felt after watching this video?
Rome The Great The same, biggest cheater alive!
This is old, at the time Joe was the goat but Brady dethroned him since 2016
With the house key around his neck and everything
Brady and Joe Cool, 1 a and 1b in sb era...patriot fan. Moss was best deep threat ever
Well said 👏
That spiral....lol
Thx for everything randy 💪🏿
Randy would have looked so good in blue and gold!
Moss has caught more than one pass from the goat
Lotta people like to trash moss but randy was all class around the GOAT. Nothing but respect for what Montana did for the game. Great job Randy.
Imagine Montana to moss
I don't know why but Joe Montana looks like an actor. I would've never guessed the first time I saw him that he was a quarterback. Plus he looks so familiar outside of football.
They would seriously destroy the league
Joe Montana the best quarterback ever
one thing is for sure. if randy moss played with joe for a few years he would have had a championship. montana never went more than 3 yrs without a sb win.
Its funny cause he’s sitting next to John Lynch who’d become the niners GM
Joe Cool is my guy but that GOAT talk passed years ago 😂
as loooooonnngg time member of the Niner Faithful i would honestly say that it would be a dream come true to be able to catch a pass from the legendary Joe Montana
Truly enjoyed watching Mr. Montana's career back in the 80's, so glad I was there to witness it.
jay glazer staying quiet....such a true giant fan haha...loved that old rivalry
that pass was tooo short randy moss should've gone deeper lol but that was a nice throw and catch
See when Joe threw it that Randy didn't even move his hands.
Dear god imagine if these two in their prime played together.
I would pay good money for a dinner with cool joe
I thought he was going to go long or at least a little bit farther lol
