Dang man. Fontanillis is a serious hike! That’s super impressive you ventured out there on a day hike. I’d love content that includes your route and hike.
Great day Amani. Fantastic Lake, beautiful country. I always loved fishing, hiking and Jeeping that area. Jeeping up to Barker Pass and down to trails leading to DW.
That wind was brutal for fishing jigs. Detecting strikes on the sink is really tough in that type of wind but not impossible. I was just watching your video where you were fishing a Zara Spook top water. I used to bass fish a lot when I was younger and I got to a point where I could make one of those things swim in a tight zigzag pattern across the surface with some fancy rod movement. Curious to see if I could still do it. I might have lost my touch!
I went to Kirman but didn't get anything. Didn't fish long. I hiked there for the promise of big brookies. I read the brookies are less now and Lahontans are most prominent but that was just something I read. Could be bogus. I think it was something about the hatchery where they got the brookies.
A good day on tube jigs--finally! Nice Brookies. Beautiful day even with the wind. Thanks for taking us alone. Even though it's been hot on the West Coast, I sense the cold is coming. Well will see. Keep netting those lunkers.
I think I am going to head back up towards 11K next week. I'll go to the cooler temps! I'd love to fish the lower Owens but I think it's still too hot for me down there. It will come soon enough.
I'm new to trout fishing and was wondering what type of lures you are using? Love your content. I've been watching for awhile recently subscribed. Thanks
Right on. If you go to my fishing tips playlist I show the tube jigs I use and basic strategies to use them in alpine lakes in at least one video. The difference is I have been using the heavier 1/16 oz size since I shot that clip. In the content on my backcountry fishing playlist I often explain what I was doing after I catch fish. Between the two of those you should get a good idea of how to approach it. I recommend filing off the barbs on jigs if you plan to release fish. The barbs on these larger hooks can tear a fish to shreds. Good luck and hopefully the content on my fishing tips playlist can get you going with some good ideas. I have tips for lure and bait fishing.
!/8 OZ marabou jigs are really hit or miss in lakes and it seems like they miss more than hit. The tube jigs have more action and they can be fished much slower. It would be way easier to fish the 1/8 OZ Marabou jigs in that wind but I don't think I'd catch as much if anything. They do have their time and place though. In rivers, I have got my 1/8 OZ marabou jig technique down to a science!
I notice that you seem to use that same colored jig in many of your videos. We all have our "confidence lures", but I think it's good to have another color choice or two. Sometimes when one color isn't working, another one will.
I just ordered a few of packs of six so that's what I have been using. I'd actually rather have something closer to a shade of brown. I often use black marabou jigs because that's the best color the cheap ones I use come in. Pheasant tail bead heads I often use because I can get a dozen for ten bucks. What you see me use doesn't have so much to do with what I like as much as it is simply what I have available. I go with what I have and make the best of it. I typically have very little tackle on me when I'm fishing artificials. I mostly rely on technique.
I know that would be ideal for the situation but I don't. I just try to get everything done with floating line and my spinning rod. I have so much crap in my day pack as it is. I try to keep things as simple as possible as far as tackle goes. A lot of my audience doesn't fly fish so I try to mix it up with a spinning rod. I enjoy fighting fish on my 5' ultralight rod anyway.
I use a 5' ultralight ugly stik for nearly all of the content on my channel including my lake Tahoe shore fishing playlist. My line is trilene 6lb XL mono. My reel is a $20 shimano they sell at Walmart but in general I use spinning reels that run $20-$30. A lot of my tackle details can be found in videos on my fishing tips playlist.
The brookies in there are nice if you can get them. Last time I was there it wasn't so great but I got a nice rainbow instead. I'm going to do an overnight next year and fish both lakes.
Man, you fixated hard on that. Me and my cousin joke around. Glad you never here us joking around off camera. I'd never here the end of it. Caught tons of fish since then so not sure what I'm shaking off. Your several comments about that moment are becoming a little strange.
Love that jig bite - when it is windy best to fish when it is at your back - those were some nice brooks - thanks for sharing👊🎣👍
The wind was a challenge to be sure. It's just tough to detect the strike on the sink with a huge bow in your line.

I will admit that is a serious day hike!
those were some great Brookies! Good job and good video.
I love those fat brookies.
Great day Amani. Fantastic Lake, beautiful country. I always loved fishing, hiking and Jeeping that area. Jeeping up to Barker Pass and down to trails leading to DW.
It was a great day. Day hiking it put me in a tight fishing window but I squeezed a lot of fun in there.
Armani those brookies were REALLY nice. Awesome !
Oh yeah! I love getting nice brookies like that.
That wind was insane! Those Brookies are absolutely gorgeous 😍 🐟
As always, another great video Amani.

Have you ever fished Kirman Lake? Best brookies I've ever caught, straight footballs.
I went to Kirman but didn't get anything. Didn't fish long. I hiked there for the promise of big brookies. I read the brookies are less now and Lahontans are most prominent but that was just something I read. Could be bogus. I think it was something about the hatchery where they got the brookies.
Excellent action. Love the tubes for the brookies.
There are some real good brookies in there. I went to the jigs too late in the day. I needed to probe that deep water more. Next year.
The Master Guide! Beautiful scenic video. Extraordinary trout. Fairwinds!
Thank you.

Amani ! Yeah buddy , good fishing to you !
This last stretch of jig fishing to cap the day off was good times.
Awesome video. Whats the purpose of using the 1/16th oz jig on the lake vs an 1/8oz? Dont you use the 1/8 in the truckee? Thanks! Cheers!

Do you fish any full sink type 6 lines in your fly rod? That will get you as deep as your spinning rod.
I know that would be ideal for the situation but I don't. I just try to get everything done with floating line and my spinning rod. I have so much crap in my day pack as it is. What's your rod and reel and line setup Amani?

@@wildernesswithamani1027 Love that you fish UL with budget gear, it's a nice change from a lot of other youtubers
Nice Fish

Brookie Bonanza
That describes it!
Looks like you finally shook off the "noonan miss it" whammy you perpetrated on your poor cousin so long ago..
