I'll tell you, and this is the first time I've ever said it. We visited in 2006 when my daughter was 3. All over Waco, including the zoo and museum many many times awesome experience. Went into this place and everything was cool. Had to buy tickets for the upstairs exhibits, so we bought gifts and tickets. Went to the staircase and my daughter looked up the steps and began screaming and hyperventilating. It was so bad we had her outside on the sidewalk and the staff were making calls. We finally calmed her after we were in the car headed home. She told us she didn't want to talk about it.... At three years old. After that we passed the museum once, heading back to 19. My daughter kept repeating that's bad that's bad that's bad bad bad
I remember drinking Orbitz when I was a kid. It was pretty gross. The little balls were slimy and gelatinous, and the feeling of drinking a beverage with stuff floating in it was somewhat nauseating. LOL Crystal Pepsi, on the other hand, was awesome! I was a big fan back in the day. Thanks for another great video!
Jacob, RE Mold-a-Ramas - there are 8 mold-a-matic machines at the Zoo Knoxville - if you haven’t been. It appears they were refurbished as they are all in excellent shape! I just went yesterday and ALL EIGHT were working! they have a lion, 3 monkeys, giraffe, otter, Rhino, gorilla with both arms up, tiger, and elephant .
When I was a kid I went to the Dr Pepper museum (it was practically nothing, and it also wasn’t the free enterprise whatever yet) and it was pretty sad. The bottle well was there, some old machinery was there, the animatronic man was there, and they had a pretty killer soda fountain. Up on the second floor they just had random displays from things like the Star Wars prequels and a junky TV that played old commercials. That being said, we went almost yearly and I loved it. I have a vivid sense memory of the cadence and tone of that Dr. Alderton animatronic’s speech! This museum is the reason my go to trivia has always been that Dr Pepper doesn’t have a period after the Dr, and one of their old mottos was “drink a bite to eat at 10, 2, and 4” We stopped going after they started gutting the Dr Pepper collection to make room for the Free Enterprise thing, and it became even sadder. I’ve heard it’s been expanded into that building across the courtyard you went into and made better, and when I get home this summer I’ve got to go back. It looks INFINITELY nicer, let me just say.
I'd probably go broke before I got past the smashed Penny machines, I pretty much live for Dr Pepper so thank you Mr Carpetbagger for giving me a chance to see the Museum. Fun fact (as I didn't see them show it in their collection) the UK had a Dr Pepper Promo called Pants or prizes where you could win the usual cash prize or a pair of Dr Pepper branded Y fronts, I was really miffed when I didnt win any Y fronts.
Hi Jacob ! Welcome to Texas and glad you went to the Dr. Pepper Museum ! I recommend going to the Texas Ranger Museum here in Waco, across the I35 next to the Brazos river near Baylor University ! I have a unique story about that parking lot I would like to share with you that is not known to a lot of the public. All My Best !
I remember those elongated bottles. Back in the late 70's they used to sell them at local fairs as an option for sand art. You could fill the bottle with colored sand and funnel it into a pattern of your design. Soda fountains are awesome, too bad they are so rare.
It's great you show american history to the world, alot of people flunk it because it doesn't go far back as Britain. I find this way more interesting 👍
You let Jolt Cola go by without comment! I remember that stuff, twice the caffeine and twice the sugar! It was GREAT! Back in the day, the cafeteria at work had every flavor available.
14:32 company logos then: beautiful works of art that you could hang up on your wall with no context and enjoy as its own art piece. company logos now: the name of the company with a solid color background, if youre lucky it might even be a color other than red.
If you’re ever in Cincinnati and need suggestions on where to visit here’s some ideas: The Cincinnati Museum Center, The American Sign Museum, Contemporary Arts Center, National Underground Railroad center, Newport Aquarium, & Cincinnati Zoo! (: I think you’d really like the sign museum Jacob!
Vernor’s always makes my heart so happy. My grandpa drank them and him and my brother both loved them. One day we were fishing out in the Florida heat and I was sooooo thirsty. We’d run out of my drinks and so he handed me a Vernor’s and before he could warn me, I started CHUGGING IT. For anyone that hasn’t had it, you can’t drink it fast. You just can’t. It’ll make you feel like you’ve been punched in the nose. For some reason for me, that barely happens. Here I was chugging this whole can of it in a matter of seconds and he fully expected me to be in PAIN. Nope. He was shocked. My brother and him both couldn’t believe that I was totally fine. The next time I drank it though, it felt like I’d jumped in to a pool and got a nose full of water. It hurt sooo bad. But it tastes sooooo good.
Btw Crazy Water still exists. The story of Mineral Wells is kinda fascinating, I remember going to the then abandoned hotel ghost hunting but I believe it was bought to be renovated into a working hotel. Not sure if that ever happened with the world and COVID
I gave up everything carbonated for years. Finally at piazza hut i got a kid size Dr pepper - drink at least 1 a day now. I didn't know this was located there. Will now be on my bucket list
That is so awesome that you went to the Dr pepper museum there in waco tx. I'm originally from Texas and I lived in Robinson which isn't to far from waco
Hey Jacob thanks for taking us to this museum . It was totally awesome & sent it on to Some real true Dr Pepper Lovers. Enjoyed watching & learning About the soda . Nice to know that Waco,TX is known for some really good!!!
I 100% remember orbitz! It came out when I was in high school it was basically carbonated flavored water with Jello in it. And I definitely remember Hubba Bubba soda also!
Actually Dr. Brown’s Cel-Ray soda is very good...a clean slightly sweet flavor....nothing like going to Katz’s Deli in NYC, get a great Pastrami on Rye, a plate of coleslaw, some pickles, and cleaning your palate with some cool refreshing Cel-Ray soda...
I visited this museum back in October of 2019. It was pretty interesting to see the history of the soda industry. If you are back in Waco anytime soon you might also check out the Magnolia Marketplace since I heard you mention Chip and Joanna Gaines. They have a bakery, gift shop, and several other places around town you can see some of the stuff they sell and people they work with on the tv show.
Dude seeing the vault can brought back so many memories. I loved vault soda. It was so good but I’ll stick to my Dr Pepper and sundrop and RC and Cherrywine
It was fun seeing all the discontinued pop flavors that I haven't seen in years. Oddly enough, in spite of the fact that I sat through this entire video and enjoyed it, I really don't care all that much for Dr. Pepper. I used to love it as a kid, but for some reason I can't stand it as an adult. I remember the Orbitz soda, which was actually pretty good, but just looked really weird. I HATED Crystal Pepsi, but I was probably one of the few people on the planet who actually liked the New Coke better than the classic Coke!
Dr. Brown’s Celery Soda (a/k/a Cel Ray) is actually still being sold, at least on the East Coast. It became popular in Kosher delis, as a digestive aid while eating so much delicious but heavy food.
Hi from arizona thanks for having me along on learning about dr pepper very educational I never knew all this about dr pepper I guess you learn new stuff every day love your channel keep up the great work
This is a great museum. I remember Orbitz soda it was really neat- it looked like little planets floating in air. Cool video!! I love Dr. Pepper. I drink Diet Dr. Pepper all the time, it's my favorite diet soda!
Gotta give the Dr. Pepper museum for including even the failed Dr. Pepper products in the failed soda section. Good to see a company show even they make mistakes, instead of trying to hide them. 👍
When I was a small boy (1960’s) my uncle worked for Coca-Cola and would bring jugs filled with syrup and would mix it with water and boy was it good ! BTW- I love Dr. Pepper !
Pommac is very common here in Sweden, one of my favorite drinks and tastes a little like Champagne, then there is one thats called Champis wich is also like the same drink but different makers.
I don't really like soda that much, but I'm fascinated by stuff like this. I went to World of Coke in Atlanta and I really enjoyed it. I want to go to this place and the birthplace of Pepsi Cola now.
I really liked Orbitz, I wish they still sold it. I drink Zevia all the time, the root beer one is good. Recommended for diabetics who want to avoid both sugar and aspertame in their soda.
The story I was told about Vernors was the guy who invented it was experimenting and trying to make a drink. The only problem was it didn't taste very good. Since no one was drinking it he stored all of his drink in wood barrels. Right when all this was going on the civil war broke out. The inventor enlisted and didn't make it back home until the end of the war. When he got home he tried the drinking what he left in the barrels and it actually tasted good.
I love Dr. Pepper! That's a great museum. Mr. Alderton, the inventor, is in a cemetery nearby.
I would LOVE to go there. Every Dr. Pepper product I've tried I've love. Plus, a free hand crafted Dr. Pepper at the end.
Ashley Petrini I used to
Work at this museum loved it!!
Hey
Are you from Waco?
What makes Dr. Pepper better than other doctors?
-Affordable.
-Actually glad to see.
-No bad news.
You also don't have to make an appointment fifty years in advance or sit in a waiting room to cure your thirst. 😀
