Back in the early 2000's at several of the Domino's Pizza (corporate stores) I worked at as a delivery driver in far west Houston metro area, we noticed that our customers preferred the Dr. Pepper 20 oz bottle drinks more than any other soda flavors. So much that eventually (as the story was told to us) that Coca-Cola demanded that Domino's drop Dr. Pepper as one of the choices for our customers and replaced it with Mr. Pibbs (which was supposed to be Coca-Cola's version of Dr. Pepper). Our regular customers were NOT pleased with that change.
"Pep" was a common old-school term for vitality and energy. "Doctor Pepper" is likely a name intended to covey that "it will fix you up and put more pep in your step!"
@Ch Erry In 1898, small-town pharmacist Caleb D. Bradham looked for a name that would better describe his formula -- which he was selling under the name "Brad's Drink." He bought the name "Pep Kola" from a local competitor and changed it to Pepsi-Cola.

Part of my first job when I was a kid was in the grocery store sorting 5 Cent refund pop bottles according to brand. It was a lot more confusing back then when all the brands didn't belong to one company.
When I was a kid, I used to think Dr. Pepper was half cola, half root beer, with pepper from a pepper shaker added. Yes, I still am that dumb. For what it's worth, I do like Dr. Pepper.
In my opinion, Dr. Pepper has just a hint of cherry flavor. Actual cherry sodas, however, have too strong of a cherry flavor and don't taste as good as a Dr. Pepper.
One summer, over ten years ago, I found Berries and Cream Dr. Pepper on the grocery store shelf. It was so good and I miss it dearly. Please, bring it back Keurig-Dr. Pepper.
They have cream soda Dr Pepper and Cherry Dr. Pepper. You can't find it in mainstream stores like Food Lion or Walmart. You have to go to gas stations like Eagles and stores like Carlie C's.
If you add the botanicals from from coke and root beer, it adds up to 23 flavors. If you mix the two at a 1:1 mix, it tastes like Dr. Pepper. It works with nearly every cola
It's been a very long time since I've been inside an El Pollo Loco due to geography. I don't remember-are they supplied from Pepsi distributors (Dr. Pepper supplier), or Coca-Cola distributors (Pibb Xtra, formerly Mr. Pibb, suppliers)?

It would be great to hear more about the original Dr Pepper Bottling Co in Dublin, TX and how they continued to bottle with sugar until just a few years ago.
We still use sugar, just not for the exports, only for tax reasons. We started to use Apple juice for the sweetness, that because expensive, so now we use stevia, a artificial sweetener.
Dublin wasn't the original bottling plant, they just made it with Pure Cane Sugar the longest using the old recipe. I use to grab a bunch of them when I would travel through Dublin on my way to college in Alpine from East Texas around Tyler. Then I started to see them in stores around Tyler. I knew they had an agreement with Snapple to not sell outside the 3 counties around Dublin but thought it might have changed. Well, it didn't and they were quickly sued out of the rights to produce Dr Pepper. I felt bad for them but they did violate their agreement with Snapple in which they signed.
They were forced by Snapple to shut down production of Dublin Dr Pepper, though they still make sodas as Dublin Bottling Works. Visited their museum a year before they shut down from the pandemic in 2021
Dr. Pepper fun facts. The man singing in the "Be a Pepper" ad is David Naughton, well known for playing David Kessler in the 1981 horror movie "An American Werewolf in London". The drink was also featured pretty heavily in the 2011 anime Steins;Gate, the main character, Okabe Rintaro, even stating it's a drink for the chosen intellectuals
The instant I saw your pfp I knew I'd be reading a Steins;Gate fact by the end of your comment lol. It is truly the drink of intellectuals. I actually got into Dr. Pepper because my girlfriend and I cosplayed as Okabe and Kurisu for a convention in 2015, and we had a pack of Dr. Pepper with us. I found out I actually enjoyed it, even as someone who didn't really like soda.

Dr Pepper has been huge regionally in Texas since it has its roots here. Most fast food or restaurant businesses sign exclusive deals with either Coca Cola or Pepsi to use their fountain drinks, but in Texas it's common for them to allow the option for the owner to also provide Dr Pepper. Because of how popular it is, the store will have a noticeable decline in reviews/business if they don't offer Dr Pepper.
That's the case nationwide. Dr Pepper Snapple Group sold the distribution rights to Dr. Pepper to Coke and Pepsi. Which company has the bottling rights varies by market.
It’s not just Texas that allows Dr Pepper as well, that is nationwide. Anywhere you go that has exclusive rights to Wokeacola and Pepsi also has Dr Pepper.
Years ago, we went to a neat place in Dallas where they would take your tie, cut it in half, and attach it to the ceiling. I ordered a mesquite fired steak for the first time (it was great!). My wife ordered a beer, but I wanted a Pepsi. They offered me a Dr Pepper, and so I said how about Coke, and they said no, but again offered me a Dr Pepper which I accepted and have loved it ever since.
Dr Pepper is my most favorite soda. I'm not joking when I say, every restaurant I go to or any drink I get outside of restaurants is most likely Dr Pepper.
Dr Pepper's taste is surprisingly distinctive, at least as far as sodas go. As in I'm fairly certain i wouldn't be able to distinguish pepsi from coca cola in a blind taste test.
@@wrestlingandamusementparkl7789: We lovely refer to Pibb Xtra (formerly Mr. Pibb) as "Almost Dr. Pepper". Between Pepsi and Coca-Cola, I stand with Pepsi, but I enjoy some of the beverages supplied by either: Namely Dr. Pepper, Pibb as near enough, Barq's root beer (Coca-Cola), and 7-Up (Pepsi). With the exception of Pepper/Pibb, I don't care for the alternates (Mug, Sprite, and I can't stand Sierra Mist). It's a good balance-when I go into a restaurant, there will always be something I like.
Just a correction: Here in Mexico Dr Pepper and most of its brands are sold by Grupo Peñafiel that is in fact owned by Keurig Dr Pepper, heck they even use the same logo but since Peñafiel is a more recognizable branding for the Mexican market they use it as the front company.
My favorite soda since I was a kid. The only soda I drink at McD's these days. I remember my friends scratching their head when I'd be the only one drinking Dr Pepper and everyone else was drinking something else. Part of the reason might be I liked cream soda and all my friends hated it. Funny times.
I worked at a bottling company that produced Dr Pepper, among other sugary fizzy concoctions. I can tell you that while I couldn't tell you what the 23 flavors are, I do know that the concentrate they used was straight phosphoric acid that came in a tiny box. Each box would yield 10,000 units (2 litre bottles), and the stuff had a cloying, sickly sweet odor that would stay in your nose for days. I couldn't drink DP for years after I left that place.
@@emsavings yeah, but that's Faygo and it's regional... Mostly the Midwest, but not sold in every store. Love my Faygo. You can get pretty much any flavor imaginable. Their Rock 'n Rye is like Dr. Pepper.
I'm a supervisor in a Dr Pepper Snapple group warehouse in Texas, one of the largest. What they don't post online is that for a period of time we were producing and shipping monster. We also store pallets of coca cola cans/bottles to be shipped as well. Coca cola uses our facility to distribute their product to save on shipping and extend their reach.
They made probably the best product placement in history, putting their brand into the Steins;Gate manga and anime in a way that actually corresponds really nicely with the characters.

Fun fact: I live near 10-2-4 ranch which is the home of the previous CEO of Dr. Pepper Snapple. He has now since retired and owns the ranch which is about a 20 min drive from me. It make the world feel small.
In some parts of the south if you ask for a soda, you get a Coca Cola. If you arent specific otherwise, its a Dr. Pepper. In Texas a bottling plant was opened just to only bottle Dr. Pepper.
In fact, Dublin, TX was the oldest bottling plant still making the original recipe of Dr Pepper (granulated cane sugar and all) until they got a C&D for shipping it outside their contractual radius about 10 years ago. I was disappointed. Dublin Dr Pepper was the best. Their orange cream soda is still really good, though.

Honestly the biggest surprise of this video for me was the fact that Dr Pepper isn't owned by Coca-Cola or Pepsi. I was under the assumption that Pepsi owned it but I guess not.
Working at a grocery store I have to tell you that you're not alone. Most people think Coke owns DP. In fact Coke handles everything to do with DP business wise for our company.
I always assumed they were owned by pepsi as well, I constantly see their products around Pepsi. At pepsi exclusive restaurants and such, or the dollar store when they sell the pepsi 1 litre drinks for 98 cents.
I believe that Dr Pepper is bottled at both Coke & Pepsi plants depending on region, which may be why a lot of people think this. You can usually tell by the bottle shape, the Coke bottled ones being in that cone shaped bottle and the Pepsi bottled ones being in that standard Pepsi bottle shape they've been using for some time now.
I was an RC cola fan back in my teens and 20s, but I've increasingly liked Dr. Pepper over the years. Coca Cola and Pepsi seem too bland and ordinary, and DP always has a bit of a kick to it.
The reason why i like Dr. Pepper more is because it Dosent Taste like just sugar. Coca Cola just Tastes like sugar and carbonated water. Dr. Pepper at least tasts like something. The Bad Thing is i have a Hard time getting Dr. Pepper where i live
RC is the shit and i drink both Pepsi and Coca Cola also but can't stand Dr.pepper.It's crazy because as a kid i loved Dr.pepper but not anymore but it's all my little brother drinks though.I should only be drinking water like my oldest brother that's an RN and a health fanatic but i guess I'm not that smart. What I find interesting is that depending on what part of the country you live in, Dr Pepper comes in different bottle shapes because either Coca-Cola or Pepsi actually distributes it for retail. Arizona, it happens to be Coke, but when I lived in North Carolina, Pepsi distributed it. Crazy stuff.
It doesn't really depend on the state or region, but the specific bottler. In Portland, Pepsi bottles Dr Pepper, but in other parts of Oregon it's bottled by Coke.
It's completely messed up in Europe. In the UK (where coca cola produce it) the branding is completely different, as are the flavours. We occasionally get Dr Pepper imported from Europe to some stores, which tastes totally different and comes in different bottle designs. I believe Keurig own the rights and produce it themselves or license it to PepsiCo in Poland, which results in the weird mix match of drinks that are called Dr Pepper. It's a super confusing mess of trademark law.
This makes soo much sense about Coca Cola producing Dr Pepper outside of the US. I live in Ireland and in some niche stores they sell the Dr Pepper cans imported from the US and there is definitely a much better taste when compared with the Dr Pepper produced by Coca Cola in Ireland.
Dr Pepper has got to be my favorite soda. No other soda has tasted so good. It's like a licorice cola with a extra bit of sweetness at the end that Coca Cola and Pepsi don't have.
Sometimes, I catch your videos as soon as they come out. Other times, my baby wakes me up at 2:30am and, after I take care of her, I just need something wholesome to watch before I fall back to sleep. So, thanks for making this

I've always theorized that they probably called it Dr's Pepper as in "The Doctor's Pep--er". Due to the popularity of the word "pep" at that time period as seen in everything from coal and cocaine benefits to energy from radioactive products in the early to mid 20th century. And they simplified it down to "Dr. pepper" because it probably seemed obvious and simple as the pepper from the doctors. Dr. And pepper. Two easy words to associate with health and energy.

@@AlottaBoulchit When I was in college, in our marketing class we were presented with 3 different types of cola. Coke, Pepsi and RC Cola. The class first guessed which would be the most popular. IIRC Pepsi narrowly beat out Coke and RC was dead last on the guesses. They they had the class do a blind taste test and mark which of the three they actually liked the best. RC cola won like 74% of the vote. Granted, the whole point of that lesson was to show the power of marketing. Our professor then showed us the estimated sales of Coke/Pepsi and then compared it to the wildly smaller sales of RC cola.

Pepper.

They have cream soda Dr Pepper and Cherry Dr. Pepper. You can't find it in mainstream stores like Food Lion or Walmart. You have to go to gas stations like Eagles and stores like Carlie C's.
All of those offshoot flavors were just Dr. Pepper with a different label. They didn't taste different at all
If you add the botanicals from from coke and root beer, it adds up to 23 flavors. If you mix the two at a 1:1 mix, it tastes like Dr. Pepper. It works with nearly every cola

Visited their museum a year before they shut down from the pandemic in 2021
They closed due to an ant invasion.
Dr. Pepper fun facts. The man singing in the "Be a Pepper" ad is David Naughton, well known for playing David Kessler in the 1981 horror movie "An American Werewolf in London".
RIP Dublin dr pepper
That's the case nationwide. Dr Pepper Snapple Group sold the distribution rights to Dr. Pepper to Coke and Pepsi. Which company has the bottling rights varies by market.
It’s not just Texas that allows Dr Pepper as well, that is nationwide. Anywhere you go that has exclusive rights to Wokeacola and Pepsi also has Dr Pepper.

You can usually tell by the bottle shape, the Coke bottled ones being in that cone shaped bottle and the Pepsi bottled ones being in that standard Pepsi bottle shape they've been using for some time now.

yes where I live it (along with Schweppes ginger ale) always goes on sale alongside the Pepsi products, but not 7up for some reason
