I believe the protec bed produced from 02-03 was the rarest bed option gm produced. They had a unique raised letter tailgate similar to what the avalanche had as well as the entire bed was composite. The only steel on it was the bottom rails and hinge/ hardware assembly. I ended up finding a color matched one for my 04. It was different and had its own cool factor but I’d never seek one out again. The tailgate was not interchangeable with standard beds as well as the hinge hardware was unique making it difficult to find and hard to repair.

Ok third comment. Dont do black. If you do black your gonna lose the visual of the bed. The lighter color helps bring out the detail in the bed.

You’re in a color rut. Take a few minutes and go look through the color palettes from the 1960’s through the 1980’s and see if there is a combination which strikes your interest. You’re looking to do different and interesting, but absolutely everyone does the same blacks, grays and silvers. It’s so boring. There have been so many truly good colors and color combinations which have come and gone through the years. Truck sales brochures are a good place to browse through.

Been specializing in Chevy/GMC trucks the past 30 years. Had 4 Q-steers in the past year. They were offered from 2002 to 2005. The bed is all steel, just the outer quarter skins are that composite GM material used on step sides, and Buick front fenders. They are apparently also available in fiberglass via the aftermarket.

More than the bubble box side. I feel they were so far ahead of their time people were afraid of it. In my opinion if they would’ve pinched the frame and made the rear axle the same width as the front end, it would’ve changed the out come . Good ole Q44!! PS different color dark metallic green . I knew it had to be a quadrasteer bed when I saw the video title. I owned a fully optioned 02 quadrasteer. Absolutely the best driving truck I ever had; it went down the road so well. The quadrasteer technology was not a gimmick. If recall correctly it took 12' off of the turning radius.
Can't believe gm let it die. They didn't move enough units, not because it was bad tech, but because they could never make it affordable enough. In the beginning years it was +$7k option. In the later years I believe they had it down to the $2k range and only came with the quadrasteer rear diff, not all the other bells and whistles.

Score…Nice find…. that’s gonna look good..I have an 02 Dually…. The bed is made the same way ( I was really puckering when you took that off the trailer like that…. After 20 years, it gets a little brittle). I totally rebuilt mine. Those side panels I’ve found are reeeeeal expensive. You’ll find some small stress fractures here and there. Use a reinforced fiberglass (with mesh) on the inside, then paint 👍. If you don’t, The body filler will eventually crack with changing temperatures leaving something undesirable. However you do it ….do not take the panels off to make repairs. Make repairs on the truck while bolted. You will want to…..but it’s better to leave them on ( I took mine off …..trust me on that …. save you some frustration👍).

Bought it at an auction for 13,000 and was told it ran and drove. Showed up and the thing was completely rotted out, fuel lines rusted through and leaking fuel. Check engine light on it, and service quadrsteer too. Luckily was able to pull out of the deal and it only was a $350 mistake

I really dislike black for vehicles. The interior gets so dang HOT 🔥 in the summer and they show EVERY bit of dirt. Plus, it's just a boring color. My opinion is basically any color besides what Henry Ford painted every single model T that was produced after 1914. "Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black." Boring.

Even break from somone pushing or leaning on it. That was a common problem on the top flat part of the Fleetwood fender. I had a tire tread seperate and it demolished the drivers side front fender. Yeah try finding one of those fenders to fix it. Very difficult.

Looks fantastic - one of a kind. You really know how to do a unique build. Go for it! Keep grey - black shows the dirt and imperfections. Earth tones, silver, or grey hides dirt. I love the new paints with no metallic - like Jeep sting grey, dodge destroyer grey, or Toyota Lunar Lanscape. Since there is no metallic in the paint, touchups are easy if you get a stone chip. That paint probably is more expensive. I vote for stock style wheels = no monster truck look. This is going to be epic.

Great to have another video ! The bed looks great. Always liked that look. Not a stepside not a dually not a flat fleetside.. in between and looks great. The rear bumper, grill and hood.. look great 👍 Keep away from a lift. Maybe a leveling kit to even it out. 35's should fit easily.. 37's with a bit of trim work ? maybe.. Your friend talked about wider front fenders... you might be able to find some fiberglass "pre-runner" style fenders for the front. Cost ?.. they will require some fitment. But would allow some wider tires.. minimal. Probably not worth the cost and fitment time... a minor "body lift" can help. Never been a fan of wheel spacers. Color... what color is the new hood ? How about a really good blue ? I like your Dodge and you did it right in Black. You have white and Red.. but a good Chevrolet Blue... or a nice Forest Green.. Anyway you will pick the color that suits you. Btw.. the beard is looking good 👍 2024 Truckmaster edition lol.. Great project and coming right along. Get a car cover for the WIFEMAX... a good ceramic coat and cover for the winter while it's parked in out of the weather. 😎👍

Been a follower for a long time. Really appreciate and enjoy the content and your channel. My tidbits of feedback / ideas are just that. You make all the tough decisions and you have done great so far.. Mrs. Truckmaster keeps Earl away and the Truckmaster in check... and that's why you are successful. Strong faith and family values. In today's world and society. That is something that everyone needs to refocus on in all we do. It reflects in your success and your content and it's presentation. Which is why I personally have always enjoyed watching your channel. 😊

    I like it
I think it needs to be lowered a little bit with wheels that fit👍🏼

Definitely get the new front fenders to kinda match how the bed sticks out a little like a Baja look. Either way I think the truck looks really good

I actually like the looks of that bed Josh. I think in most cases doing something different is better

A friend of mine had one of those quad steers and it was a really cool truck, got into a accident and it got crushed unfortunately but for the color you should definitely do something like the color of the hood or maybe a Nardo grey or cement grey color

I’ve seen one quadrasteer in my life, it was in a junkyard. Only one I’ve ever seen. When you do the 14-18 bumper drill some new holes higher in the frame and tuck it up to the tailgate don’t leave that god awful gap between the bumper and the tailgate. I did a video on one I put on my 04 LLY. Oh and don’t break one of those bedsides… the dually bedsides are like hens teeth I can only imagine trying to find one of those!

Absolutely cool! I love the upgraded bed and bumper as well! The gray or black would set it off!

We had a quadrasteer 1500hd with the 6.0 as a work truck, loved driving that truck. The turning radius was amazing. Imagine lifting a 4wd Quadra steer, would be badass off-road.

I think it’s going to look awesome. Definitely one of a kind! Go with a military theme with a desert tan paint job 👌🏽

    Is that 14+ bumper from a 1500 or 2500?
Use the 2014 1500 brackets - then drill one set of holes 2" higher then your current holes in the 2500 frame.
    It will bolt right in.

The world is crazy. Sitting here watching another great video and you throw the tailgate on and low and behold the dealership logo is from a dealer I used to work for in North Texas. Kinda nuts.

@TruckMaster Small dealer with like 3 or 4 techs in the shop. Dealer was Cadillac and used trucks. Town is about 35000 population so not a lot of those badges out there so that tailgate is more rare that the bed you got.

Where did you get the HD hood? I would like to find a used factory hood rather than a new aftermarket
