  • It's time to perform a long list of overdue maintenance on my 1962 Chevrolet C10 affectionately known as White Lightnin. The frame is bent, cracked and rusted. The doors are out of alignment and the hinges are sticky. The headlights are out of adjustment and more! This pickup is not for sale. As always, thanks for watching!

I have a '73 Chevy Impala 4 door hard top that I bought off some old people that stopped driving because they were in their 90s. I took it to a couple shops for ignition tune up and carb rebuild. It ran worse than it ever did after they got done with it. I ended up buying new-old stock cap, rotor, points and condenser and replaced all the "new" stuff they put in. Re-timed it, set dwell etc. It runs much better now. I still have to fix the 'ol "quadrabog" since it's running super rich. That car gets a lot of the same type of reactions as you were talking about on your shakedown ride. I've learned a lot by fixing things myself. I won't take it to a shop anymore since it's just throwing money away like you said.

I looked at a 54 Ford Customline not too long ago. Price was ok. Car looked good. Went for a ride in it and it scared the hell out of me. No signal lights, no safety glass, no seat belts. I looked in the back seat at my 13 year old son and decided right then and there I no longer wanted an old car. If it was just me riding in it, whatever, but not the kids. I own a RHD AWD 92 Toyota Celica. Not first choice for a toy but it fit my budget and my son loves it. We enjoy attending car shows together. Generally speaking bolt heads are 1.5 times larger thath the thread diameter. (1/2" bolt, 3/4" wrench) This works well for even 1/8" increments.
Once you get down to 1/16" increments, the theoretical wrench would be in 1/32" increments.

Fun fact is town of Cosmos, MN has streets named after planets etc. Example I know of school district was on Saturn St. and one of the main streets is Milky way. Your advice passed on to us at end of video is spot on. I like to say that I build drivers. The more work you can do on these old car by yourself is key to affordability. I have taught myself to weld, install patch panels, and even do my own body work and paint my cars. The body work as Dan from DD Speed Shops refers to it as "body work jail". Once again I second everything you said plus emphasize that DIY or professional body work can be time or money pits. Wheels and stance make or break any car. Thanks Tom

For a license plate light, pick up a license plate mount for a trailer. Also, powdered graphite works great for speedo cables.

A good business man does what is necessary to survive but he should also help those who are able to help others with things that they are not able to get if he can for a reasonable amount to the little guy that wants to start out with the trade of the older ones. Great day to you and your family. How is Mojo doing, getting worried about him and his family! Haven't seen him lately and that is a great tragedy! I will continue to pray for him and you all that he is okay because he was ill you said about 3 weeks ago I think 🤔 but can't remember exactly. Hopefully he is recovering well and will be back at the best Shop in the Dakota territory and the best in the Business besides you and Duff . God bless you all and I will be looking forward to seeing or hearing back from you about a update on him. I'm surprised that I don't see more people wondering about the man that is the helper to the Mortske Repair shop and crew. I am going to start a channel soon and I will be buying some merchandise from you for my garage and hopefully you can shout out for some help with some subscription holders after I put out some content and you hopefully like it to help me out. Thanks for always reading and commenting back on my comments. I have been a service call mechanic and severe duty/heavy duty equipment and semi truck tire man along with doing medium duty and smaller car and truck repairs for so long now. I'm always excited ☺️ to see your videos and still learn something new from time to time now after all these years that I have been able to continue to be interested in continuing my work doing it. Slowly getting to the point of hopefully being able to work part time for my company now and getting started on my own shop soon at my age and if it wasn't for you and a couple of others on the RUclips I would not even consider it at my age, but I would like to continue to do it health issues and all because of the inspiration I get from watching you get to work and get it done helps me want to get busy and start with my car and hopefully help those who need the little tips and tricks that you bigger guys don't have the time to do and it would be a honor for me to do things that no one else wants to. Thanks again for your time, work, and experience with everything and the information on the things that you provide are as priceless as Mojo and the Duff you shared your time with as you share with the world 🌎🌍. Have a great week and I hope you will be able to kick start me in the right direction. You can E-mail me at 2captainjohnt.elliott@gmail.com and I have a couple of huge antique yards if I could be of any service to you for anything else you might need to continue with the great service you provide to everyone. Looking forward to hearing from you sooner or later Mr Mortske and Duff.

Lots of good info for people that have little or no experience, that are looking to buy an older car.
Another suggestion if a person is looking at spending a lot of money is to hire someone to do a
very thorough inspection. They aren't cheap but they can save a person a lot of money, and a lot of
headaches... Not only do they know a lot, but they are a neutral party and aren't emotionally worked up
about the car. It's real easy to go look at your dream car and not pay as much attention as you should,
and when you lose focus, that's when bad decisions are made.
I've caught myself doing that a couple times when I was looking at cars or pickups that I really wanted.
If you find yourself doing that, the best but not easiest thing to do is leave for a little while so it's easier to
think about everything you just looked at, and you will probably remember things that you didn't look at too...

    Hey Mortski,
Yeah I'm late, but you said you read everyone.
Get some clear tubing, and fill it up with water, and add food coloring if you need to see it better.
Also use a hole saw to cut old side walls outta tires expired, but they make great body, and bed cushions to adjust levels.
Then use the new level mentioned above, because water will always find true level no matter how much angle the surface underneath is.
Trust me about this, as I have old house sitting on top of piers and no way to use Lazer level, but as long as the tubing is long enough to go from one side to the other side you can level everything in between as well as end to end.
Just have to attach a way to hang each end of the tubing that is equal on both ends, and then make sure to put something to hang it on every place needed is in same location to hold tubing in same place with same reference to go by.
Yeah another novel but wtf I'm too dam old to change.
BTW ever measure the center of front axle outside to outside of center line mark on frame, and then do the same thing to the rear axle.
Tell me how much wider the front tires are from center compared to rear tires
Some reason beyond my understanding, cheverlet decided to make front axles wider track than rear up to 1967 when they changed body styles from the series before the 67 to 72.
Mortski minute that one would you please.
Peace n Harmony makes the world a better place for everyone

In 1994,I bought what I thought would be a quick fix up for a car. I then realized that it would be a lot more work than I had time for. I decided to put off restoring it until after retirement. Well I retired in 2015 and I just in the past month or so started working on it. It is a1974 Jensen Healer that had bad floors but everything else was at least average. The electrics was and still is a nightmare. I had the body epoxy primed and that didn't go well. It wasn't put down on clean metal so the paint is cracking and peeling up everywhere. Even so, I wouldn't trade it for anything. I will drive this if its the last thing I do. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your videos.

#1 when buying a older vehicle. If you don’t know how to properly inspect a vehicle pre purchase find someone who can. I just finished a car for a now new customer of mine that was a (Done) car now 21 thousand dollars later it’s done for now. With old vehicles you are never really done. 👍🇺🇸
