I would start with following artists that you like. Then find things that you like from their work. Whether its color, shading, line or depht. Then just simply figure out how to incorporate that into your own work. You can watch tutorials or just simply the artist's process if you can't figure out how to replicate that :)
proko, sinix (i think thats their name) and marco bucci on youtube all have amazing tutorials about art techniques, plus line of action and i think draw a box are websites that teach alot
1. Don’t water down your paint as it can make it streaky, instead to want a creamy consistency 2. Use it a dry brush to blend your wet paint but make sure to wipe the brush off each time 3. Use a little blue for the whites of the eyes/ mix each primary color with white Lol this comment is more so for me than anyone else, I need to summarize your points to make sure I got it and I’m always rewatching your videos
I LOVE how you talk about cheaper art supplies because when I watch other people with the most expensive supplies it is so intimidating for me😅thank you for your frankness love your videos
I just started painting again and I’ve been doing greyscale portraits. I recommend this if you’re wanting to practice shadows and highlights! Full color is a bit more complicated, so the greyscale is a great way to practice since it simplifies things 😇😇😇
Taking breaks is essential but sometimes I just forget or give up on my painting. Maybe set a timer or listen to some music for a certain amount of time then force yourself to go back and keep going.
I find it important to never force myself to paint or draw as it often leaves me disliking it for a while. If you do it when you’re inspired and motivated then you will get much better results even if it means taking a few days or even months inbetween paintings /drawings.
I've been trying my best recently to start using more saturated colours since I'm so used to drawing realism. This video is definitely a sign for me to keep going
Yess! I love this vid. One tip that helped me make my paintings pop: use a cool colored undertone for the shadows and a warm colored undertone for the highlights. Or vice versa. This creates awesome contrast and makes it look realistic.
For the primary color, I suggest you to use Magenta instead of red and cyan instead of that darker blue. To achieve red, add a bit yellow to Magenta :D its change everything And spécial tips for back : burnt omber and phatlo blue make wonder
Everything you said about how watching other ppl gives you drive is literally spot on cause it’s 3am but I can’t wait to paint when I get off work tmo 😭 at first I was just painting but now I love art and I wanna get a deeper understanding of it
I started taking up art again, so I’m pushing myself to learn acrylic, water color and oil based paints. Although I don’t have a lot of perspective or anatomy drawing experience, I keep winging it. My learning process is different due to my dyscalculia (like dyslexia, but with math and other weird stuff). Watching this gave me more confidence in painting with acrylic, thank you.
I've recently shifted from oils to acrylics and am about to try out a portrait tmrw. if im being honest, i usually skip thru youtube videos til i see what i need but i couldn't help but watch your entire video. your narration, your down to earth way of talking.. how you reassure that people needa find their own styles and groove, love it all. you have a new subscriber 💗💗
I’ve been so nervous to try painting a portrait in acrylic, I’m so used to just digital painting,, But this video really makes me feel more at ease about giving it a try, so thank you!!
Wipe your brushes as clean as possible on an old t-shirt or jeans before cleaning them with water. That way, your paint water doesn’t get too dirty. A nice tiny spray bottle is good for blending paints. You can spray it directly onto the canvas. I appreciate the tips here in the video. I am an acrylic artist and always learning. That painting came out amazing!
This is such an amazing video! I consider myself a fairly experience artist, I can manage complex gradients but I have a more abstract style. Recently, I’ve decided to branch out to painting faces but I thought I could only do it with oil paints. Seeing how amazing your art is and all the tips in this video has really inspired me to use my acrylic to paint a face, so thank you
ive tried acrylic painting in the past and its never been my favorite but recently i bought some new paint and canvases to give it another shot. this video is the perfect thing for me so thank you!
It was honestly so amazing to hear you take time to say using cheap objects are okay 🥰 really motivated me as I got some cheap canvas lately and they excite me! I got oil paints gifted to me a long time ago and I felt I was wasting them and wanted to learn how to paint better 😂 and having more fun learning this time around
I'm currently doing my alevels in art, your videos are helping me so much. Your tips are great, your work inspires me and i can relate to many of your struggles and opinions cause i'm in a similar situation. Sometimes I find it hard to get inspired by all those professional and extremely experienced artists who always have the perfect expensive supplies and somehow so much time and never get stressed. You show me that you can make incredible art without all of that. Thank you so much, your art is amazing!
Loved this! I’ve been finding it hard to go back to my art. I have unfinished works I’m now scared to touch. This specific video has really helped. Thank you Karina ❤
the tip you gave about taking a break is really important. i sometimes get too frustrated and it messes up my overall process. thanks for making this video
Aaaah, Karina!! This video was so helpful!! Coincidentally, I was working on an acrylic portrait a few days ago; I hated the outcome! But seeing your video I learned a lotta tips and can't wait to use 'em! ALSO, I LOVE YOUR PIECE!! Especially the way you blended the cheeks and painted the hair!! 💖💖💖
I've been drawing with graphite and colored pencils for almost 3 years now. I want to expand to paint so this was really helpful!!! I used to feel a bit anxious because I don't have ( and can't afford ) the more expensive paint, brushes, etc. Thanks for that also lol
5:14-5:17, when you are painting something heat, that is burning. Congratulations Karina, a great painting. Almost 50 k subs is impressive, it's feels like yesterday when you reach 10 k.
I honestly struggle so much with acrylic, I feel like I can only ever produce something good with oils bc for some reason I just can not work with how fast acrylics dry, it's so frustrating to me. But you made this look flawless and so fast too!!
This video is so helpful!!! I'm a beginner painter- like absolute beginner- and it's much more tricky than I expected it to be. I'm pretty good at drawing but painting really is a completely different thing and it's all about technique. I've made 4 small paintings now and I learn every time I pick up the brush. This is one of my favorite videos I've seen though and I can't wait to practice making a portrait
omg yes, finally someone who uses walmart/cheap paints and brushes like me and paint good! most of the art videos i’ve seen literally use the most expensive brands.
instead of using pintrest i would recommend a site called unsplash, the images are free to use so you don't have to think about copyright and so, may not be as fun as pintrest but if you would like to post on social media and tuff like that:)
I loved this video!! The monotone art videos make me disassociate almost automatically but you kept my focus for the entire video. I hope you make more tutorials
Awesome video! A couple things I noticed you may be able to help with. First, I see how you use about 1 dab of each of the paints and it lasted for a while. I end up using so much paint because its constantly drying out, which I will at times use a product to keep it from drying out. Another thing I noticed was the paint went on very neatly and "creamy" as you said. When I put the paint down it doesn't seem to look like that, rather its almost transparent; I try not to use much water at all. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it correctly, but I am not buying expensive paints or brushes either. I seem to give up out of frustration because the paint isn't "doing" what I see on videos. Thanks, Spencer
I use the Walmart essentials cheap brand for my large backgrounds, or even to mix with high grade titanium white you make beautiful dull colors. I also save certain jars of used up water for washes...I have a jar with just about every color wash I need. 😂😅😂😂
Thank you for this in depth video! I have been using acrylics for a few years now but my roots are pencils. So I've always been doing portraits in greyish tones. 🤣 Especially the light wash at the beginning is such good advice!
Definitely helped me. Inspired me to get the paint out and try to paint a portrait bc they are deff not my comfort zone and to put the tips to action 🤓🎨
You are not preachy, everything you said was so helpful and i really love how you encourage individual thinking/creativity. Your videos are gold for myself just trying to learn art at home late in life
K thanks girl for the basics!!!! I'm no professional. And I need beginner advice. I wanna do a selfie portrait for a friend as a bday gift needed thiiiss
i have my liquitex as my first time doing acrylics, iTS EEEEXPEEEENSSSSSSSSIIIIVEEEEEE😭😭 after i dried out the tubes i bought some cheaper ones (berkeley) and that really satisfied me so much. like, when you use expensive materials you will concentrate to make it more beautiful but it will turn out bad as you keep minding it. bUT WHEN I DO IT WITH CHEAPER ONES😳😳😳 oh boy, that's a masterpiece out there😏😏
Your painting came out beautiful and I love the tips in the video. I recently got back into art, but haven't taken a proper class in years. I did two portraits and was working on a third, but got caught up in mixing accurate skin tones. Thank you so much!
Why is Noone taking about the tooth earrings, they're adorable 🧚🏼♀️🌫️

Can you make a video of tips for self taught artists that just can't attend art class but are obsessed with art. It would be helpful for many of us :)
i can try my best!
Yea that would be a great idea! I'm a self taught artist
@@n3rdboink could you please suggest how to learn color like you did in the sink ap piece??

i really needed this bc acrylic is the only paint I have
I feel like this video was perfect for me cuz I hate acrylic paint😭😂
Thank you for recommending cheap products! Some artists make you feel like you need to buy the expensive ones they endorse to make good art.
