  • Why would someone relapse when things are going good in their life? This is a huge question in the addiction recovery world. I have pinpointed 3 main reasons and how to avoid them.
    We often hear someone relapse because of a trauma, sick family member, being fired from their job, or getting a divorce, but when about when people relapse when things are going well?
    This video will help people understand what is happening inside an addict's mind when they decide to use it when things are going well.

      Same here man. So from 24-27 I was full blown heroin addict. Finally lost everything , went to methadone clinic. Spent years on methadone, everything was great though , it allowed me to live a normal life, make money, not be an absolute piece of shit. Well I finally wanted to quit methadone cause I didn't want to be dependent on anything, so I tapered off and was basically clean for almost 2 years, although I did drink during this time because without methadone my depression came back. Well found some dope (new fentenal dope now, not what I was doing 8 years ago which was just tar) and guess what im back where I was 8 years ago. I get dope sick gotta sell something to get high. Everyone hates me again back to being a piece of shit. I can't believe i ended up back in this position and I hate myself for it. DONT FUCKING DO IT. if I could go back in time I would have slapped the fuck out of myself. You're not going to use it one time. And its not even that great. Yes there's a good rush and exciting high that happens when you finally score and you're not sick anymore but good God is that dumbass feeling worth it when you could be doing a million other things that get you higher, I mean in life? Fuck this shit

      @@Soberdogs I think so, though sometimes you can't tell about people...especially those still caught up in addiction. Many seem to tell you what they believe you want to hear rather than be straight up unfortunately. I can only hope that maybe they will decide they want to get out of the cycle as well when they see how much happier I am now.

    Boredom was big for me. That's what made me relapse twice, I had recently moved,, was in-between jobs, etc. didn't have much going on, too much free time. That's always kinda been the case for me even in active addiction. Also that thought of being like shit im a year or X time sober I can prob drink "normal" now....then back to drugs, etc. Everyone warned me of that first time/drink will get you back into everything and I tell people that now but I guess I had to find out for myself but.

    • @Soberdogs
      @Soberdogs  2 года назад

      For sure. And it's so hard for there not to be boredom in early recovery cause we literally just changed our whole life. You found out the hard way but made it through to talk about it.

    Bro complacency is so dangerous man. Yesterday I took a perc and didn’t feel much so I went on to take another and after 30 minutes I went on to take another one because I wasn’t really feeling the first too. Eventually, I ended up with a crazy fast heart beat(very odd) and ended up staying up the whole night because when I fell asleep I would wake up instantly with crazy nausea. Horrible experience guys try tho think before you make a decision.

    (2014) 8years sober on April 1st this year! I was 4.5 years being sober, I stoped seeing my counselor because I use MAT, my doc told me I could switch to her because she is now subscribing the MAT drug I use. So I guess I no longer needed to see my counselor either. Well 7months later my attitude started to slip back to what it was prior to being sober…….I even said out loud to a friend I need to get back in to see my counselor. Well 2months later (still didn’t make an appointment) and I slipped. Only for a weekend and got myself back on track quick. However I went back to my old treatment center and counselor. Been clean ever since. Hurts my heart thinking about that slip, but seeing the signs before it happened has now helped me realize I can’t stop counseling. I need it. It helps me tremendously!!!!! Looking forward to this next soberverary, and the many years too come. I know I’m just as easily prone to lapses as anyone else. So I do t take it for granted anymore!!

    I agree with this video! That is why I had to replace the addition with something good and find something that I like to do. I am very talented ... did not know that cause I was too busy being in my addiction. Love this video. Once again, I really like this channel. Reminds me that the YETS are still there and how I have to be grateful for my life today and all my accomplishments. Hell, no I'm not going back there. It was hell getting out. Prayer works, getting sponsor and have a great support group and actually calling my sponsor and leaning on the support group help me out a lot. Today I get to tell people, Recovery works from any addiction if you work it. One day at a time, I am free from that beast.

When there are any type of family functions I get myself so worked up bc I'm not use to living sober and feeling the emotions of normalcy. I'm doing better than I ever have. It's been several months since I've used. I just still have these severe cravings for benzos. I'm working through them tho. I have to. I have no room for any kind of drug in my life at all. Go into any restaurant in the world basically and 75% of the people have a drink to calm down. I get it. But i heard something really cool yesterday that you may like "the universe, higher power whatever we choose to call it, is in both the good and bad, we can't have the good energy without experiencing the anxiety and pain and learning to get through it" I thought that was cool.

    totally ruin your day, cause you need wheels to get to work and then to get high.
