Awesome! Remember the documentary ”It might get loud” when Jimmy took out this favourite single of his collection 45 rpm and demonstrated air guitar riffs! Legendary cool to see Mr. Page do it live. Respect!
Why are people criticizing this? Because it’s simple chords? It’s spot on. Played just the right way with some attitude. Great job Jimmy. Good to see you back on stage. Well deserved Link.
A lot of Pagey haters. All I can say is "pull that off when you are 79", all he has done for rock and roll not to mention inspire countless guitarists. The man is the top shelf.
Only idiots can hate Jimmy Page. or Zeppelin. Seriously. I can be a withering critic if I feel like it, but Zeppelin? With the greatest rock vocalist and drummer of all time (fine, MAYBE top three, but Plant is easily the contender for best male rock vocalist, just timbre alone, not to mention his early wailing chops). Jimmy Page was a master of blues rock mixed with what pretty much noone else added - AUTHENTIC MEDIEVAL English folk. No one can touch Led Zeppelin. No one's come close. Friends on Led Zeppelin. Kashmir. Achilles Last Stand. Critics, give up, history ignores you forever.
I am truly surprised by some of the negative comments. You either don't know Link Wray, or don't understand Jimmy Page. This clip is not supposed to be some master class on guitar shredding, it's a tribute to one of rock's early pioneers. To me it's a beautiful gesture from Jimmy Page. It's a thank you. For some of you, thanks for nothing.
@EricHansen-fr3cz That's awesome. First time saw them 1972. Opened with the Immigrant Song. Man that was fantastic. Don't care what anyone thinks Zeppelin was a great band.
What a respectful and beautiful tribute to Link Ray from one of the greatest guitar players ever. We don't see Mr Page very often anymore, but when we do, it's like this:smooth, dignified and at ease with himself. It serves to polish his legend.
This is his favourite song. By Link Ray "Rumble". I sawJimmy talk about this song during his show "It Might Get Loud", last year. Always one of my fav songs too, since I was a kid.
How could anybody be soooo cool at 79? Being Jimmy Page. Props to him for this heartfelt tribute to his hero, the magnificent lord of the power chord, Link Wray!
A note to ANYONE downplaying this performance, if you have love at all for Led Zeppelin... if you have love at all for Rock 'N Roll... then I say to you..... You are, QUITE LITERALLY treading on the grassroots of holy grounds..... Fifteen years ago, in the movie "It Might Get Loud", Jimmy Page spends a full segment expressing the impact Link Wray's "The Rumble" had on him. One could go so far to say: "If it weren't for THIS SONG, Led Zeppelin may not exactly be what it is today." ...more so, I believe it even necessary to consider: "If it weren't for THIS SONG, Led Zeppelin _itself_ may not exist." ...And we _all_ damn well know that Rock 'N Roll would be a shell of what it is today if Led Zeppelin was _any less_ than it was. Jimmy Page, standing on stage at 80 years old, playing THE SONG that influenced him at 14 years old. Jimmy Page, inducting one of his _personal predecessors_ into the Hall of Fame. Music. Rock 'N Roll. Passing the torch. Humanity. Life. And yet... you numb-skulls have the _audacity_ to speak.
Of course is a bootleg take, with…a telephone? We return to the bootleges crap, but I like it..worst is nothing of Jimmy Page, in the shadows, with his talent.
@@MsAppassionata 2023. Fast and cheap. Nothing sacred anymore. Desensitized to the genuinely awe-inspiring, and worthwhile. "Dull" if it's anything other than 15 seconds of a monkey-brain 'dopamine hit'.
Page playing Link Wray...like only Page can! Love it. He made mention of loving the song several years ago in a video he was in about his playing style, I guess he finally got his chance to play it. True badass 50's rock n' roll.
'It might get loud' very early in this movie there is a segment where he reverently removes the LP from its jacket, places it on the turntable, needle goes down and we all get treated to Pagey-face nodding along with the opening chords. This is first class Jimmy Page paying homage to one of his inspirations.
People might not get how significant this music was to nearly every rock guitarist of the 60s. But Jimmy speaks of it reverently, as a pivotal launching of his passion for the guitar's expressive possibilities. This performance is pretty amazing, even though the chords and notes are simple. How he builds on the progression and maintains tension with perfect rhythm is pretty enigmatic. Jimmy always plays with his heart and soul. He breathes and sings, roars and sighs, like the power and motion between the celestial and terrestrial world grinds out the landscape.
To everyone who is hating on his playing here, this man has provided us with some of the greatest guitar compositions of all time, not to mention his adept production skills. He has NOTHING to prove to anyone, his body of work speaks for itself.
accomplishments aside he’s also 79 yrs old and id hope people would take that into consideration. Getting old sucks and im sure he’s well aware that his fingers/hands dont do what they used to do in his prime during the 70s
Exactly. All famous musicians will have some detractors. Personal tastes may vary but you have to give credit and respect where it's due and this man has certainly earned his place among the greats.
Listen to the original version. All Page is doing is covering it perfectly as a tribute. How is it his fault the song is simple. Both Page and Beck freaked on this song.
He is so humble to play “ rumble” as it should be played. No shame in recreating a tune authentically that inspired him many years ago No ego just pure respect !
Good to see Jimmy again. He inspired generations of guitarists. Nice song as tribute to his fellow guitarist and co-legend Mr Jeff Beck 😊 rock n roll never dies
This is beyond awesome and so cool to see the iconic Jimmy Page playing in public after so many years! He sounds, plays and looks great and completely "NAILS" Link Ray's "Rumble." I'm a huge JP and Led Zeppelin fan and I wasn't expecting JP to do this at these festivities. It had been reported through various media outlets that he would be attending this, but it was unclear in what regard. Some were saying perhaps with Link Wray or Kate Bush as he as spoken so well of the latter in the past, attended some of her concerts and one of his favorite music artists. Jimmy is now just two months shy of his 80th birthday and I hope this inspires him to perform more in public for at least a bit more. If not, this will certainly be something he is always remembered for as it was an incredible performance. Even at just over two minutes! WOW!!!!! Thank you Jimmy!
Jimmy is now 80 yrs. of age as of Jan. 9, 2024. Most recently, he did the ribbon-cutting for The Gibson Guitar Garage, along with Tony Iommi, and Brian May. Jimmy is still the Gold Standard !
He's number one. He's the greatest guitar player that ever lived. He's not a flash in the pan. Nor is he gimmick. A true musical genius and virtuoso. He is creative and innovative without performing tricks
I think we should treat these moments as great blessings. I personally don't care if Jimmy Page plays Mary Had a Little Lamb, it is incredible to listen to him play. It's not just about the song or how well he plays. It is the legend, the presence, the persona and the mystique. Jimmy Page IS one of it not the greatest rock and roll guitarists of all time. Period. His performance gave me goosebumps, as it usually always does. What better person to induct Link Wray? He himself was the essence of cool, just as is Jimmy Page. The song Rumble is so simple, yet so powerful. The greatest guitar songs and riffs don't need lyrics or vocals. If you get a chance, find the out take of Kashmir on RUclips. Just the riff played over an over for 10 minutes. Awesome! Not making excuses here, but Jimmy Page is over 70 years old! Give the man a break for God's sake! I think there is a misperception that musicians or singers should be as good as when they were young. After all, it's only music. It's not too physical? Really? I used to pitch baseball at a fairly high level back in the day, but now can't throw a ball 20 feet. I believe one of the main reasons Led Zeppelin hasn't toured for years is because the music is so damn intricate, and physical! It took incredible energy and stamina to play and sign like that. The band doesn't want to play like that. The same reason I don't want to pitch baseball again! Again, it's a miracle and a blessing to see these legends perform. Remember that every time you see them may be the last.
I'm 63 and play guitar. When I first started playing at 15. I wanted to be Jimmy Page so badly , to even come close and play chords like him was spiritual and I still hit Whole lotta Love with guts . 😊
It’s amazing to see jimmy page play the rumble, in honor of Link Ray, he did it with finesse. I personally seen Link Wray live in concert, in the 1970 s his music was so powerful. Jimmy played it magnificently, I closed my eyes for a few seconds, and felt the magic of Link Wray. This was the driving force in me, to attend hundreds of concerts in my life time. I have seen Led Zeppelin 2 times, and Jimmy Page guitar playing was taken to Higher levels ever seen or heard. To all the negative people out there he has nothing to prove, keep on rocking Jimmy, your true fans stand behind you.
Jimmy fell in love with the song "Rumble" in 1958 when he was 14 deciding on the spot that electric guitar would be his Life. It's GREAT to see him paying tribute to his beloved Hero Link Wray. "The Circle Of Life."

Jimmy playing Link's classic on a twelve-string is awesome! It's about time Link was inducted! I was introduced to Link in the mid-70s through my friends at a local record store. The owner said "you love twangy guitar? Lsten to THIS!" Out from the speakers poured this massive riff. WOW! Link Wray! The one and only!
80 years old- a legend indeed….rarely a day goes by without some zeppelin- since the very first time listening to LZ 2 while getting high with a group of friends just enjoying music. After it ended, I sat up and asked “ who is this”. They all laughed and proceeded to turn me into the rest of the magic. I was 14!!!!

Absolute agree!👍
Jimmy Page plays it just like Link Wray wrote it to show his respect for one of his childhood guitar heroes.
Coolest thing I ever saw was Page being so pumped listening to this song he actually started doing air guitar lol
This is actually the song, that made him want to play guitar. He speaks about it, when he was young ( listening to records ). Love Led Zeppelin.
