Terry should start his own Pantera tribute tour but just perform the glam albums lol
Nobody listens to Pantera for the glam albums
Power Metal is actually really solid. More Judas Priest than true 80s glam metal.
@Pale Horse Complex Projects In The Jungle and Power Metal are among the quintessential in regards to heavy metal. Im sorry but no body can call themselves a fan of Dimebag without having listened to the early stuff. If you could encapsulate the sounds of heavy metal in one solo, it would be the solo during PITJ. Furthermore, i dont get how the solo from Floods is held up so high from so many people.. It doesnt make any sense. Have they ever listened to We'll Meet Again???? Fuck
@@disciplesoftheapocalypse Yeah Power metal is speed/thrash all day.
That'd be a cool club tour
The thing I will always love about Terry is he's a class act. Nothing but good to say about the band even though he left. And praises the band as well to this day and doesn't have bad things to say about any of them. I respect the hell out of Mr. Glaze.
Terry seems like such a good dude. You can tell in the way he speaks that he's being totally honest about these situations.
Phil, Dime, Vinnie and Rex all made Pantera unique and great. They were the perfect mixture to create some of the best music I have listened to. Humans fight, create drama and I couldn't give a fuck about any of that.
Agreed
🎯🎯🎯 there is nothing more adorable than all these "tough metalheads" bickering & gossiping about drama behind scenes of their favorite bands, the same way adolescent schoolgirls gossip about boy bands 🤣🤣
I mean damn, look at max & Igor from Sepultura. They had some creative differences, took different paths for a while in their musical careers, and suddenly there's all sorts of rumors about infighting and this one not talking to that one, that one not talking to this one, fights all kinds of shit.
Ask them? All of that was fabricared media gossip bullshit. They just split up and joined different bands. There was never any bad blood or sibling squabbles, nothing outside ordinary brother shit lol.
People just loooooove dirty laundry, some metal heads are definitely no exception.
@@phoenixaries3147 I always thought Max left Sepultura because Igor didn't get along with Max's wife? Or something like that.
@@madazzaah shit maybe it was, I just remember reading something about cavalera conspiracy with them saying it was your average family squabbles being blown out of proportion, so inlaw trouble does sound fitting 🤣
I see no evidence that Terry was the one to create any of that drama
I had the honour of meeting Phil, Dime and Rex at Auckland Airport (New Zealand) on the Trendkill tour. Phil and Dime were cool as fuck, and were happy to talk and take photos. My only memory of Rex is him standing to the side, barely said a word to us. I then met Vinnie a few years later at the Pantera clubhouse in Dallas. Cool as fuck dude, friendly, and a very polite gentleman!
Bass players usually aren't very outgoing.
I have a friend that was a roadie for some Pantera shows in Texas. He told me a story of him meeting the members. He said Rex didnt say shit to him and seemed a little douchey when he said hello and tried to be friendly. Other band mates were cool to my friend. Im not judging Rex i think hes a great musician. Just sharing a story.
He's just a bass player...
You can tell he isn't that guy who likes all the attention. I can see where it would get old.
Clubhouse was always a fun time
Man, I got to see Terry with Pantera a BUNCH of times at the Hard Roxx in Lawton and then a bunch more times when he was with Lord Traci after I move to Dallas. Great showman!
Bringing back some memories, man... Damn...
My buddies and I opened for Nuclear Assault there... it was hilarious, the marquees said Nuclear Assault a half mile from the front gate to a large Army base in the height of the Cold War., lol
I seen Lord Traci many times at The Stage Stop in Memphis and always had a great show, I remember when they were Traci Lords and she made them change their name. Man, the early 90’s were great.
Lord Tracy was a fun party band......gotta love the guy....
I’ve lived in Lawton basically my entire life. I was born just a couple years too late to go to any of those shows at the Hard Roxx though. I made up for it in the 90’s and early 2000’s going to see pantera in the Dallas area half a dozen times.
Vulgar Display of Power is my favorite Pantera album. Perfect from start to finish. Every song on it matters. I believe its one of the top 10 metal albums of all time.
Reinventing the Steel was also on that level , the whole album is a masterpiece IMO!
@@mikeg6666 facts!!
@@AarosConcerts I Am the Night blows away all of them
The Great Southern Trendkill is my favorite, with Vulgar, FBD and Cowboys behind that. Reinventing the Steel sounds very generic to me, as if they were mimicking Vulgar. Some great songs, but their weakest album. But, it's all subjective. All Pantera is awesome.
Yeah it’s perfect
I met vinnie at the club i worked at one of the nicest guys you could meet. He was here with HELLYEAH made my night .
Man… THIS is great stuff. Full In Bloom, crushing it as always.

LOTS of amazing bands never went anywhere because they never found the right singer. Phil essentially created the worldwide successful version of Pantera. Without him the band was going nowhere near the direction things went from Cowbows From Hell and forward. Pantera as it was before Phil would have fizzled by the early 90's. At that point Dime would have had opportunities to play with alot of other bands but he would never leave Vinnie which would have limited his options big time. Phil and Rex deserve rights to the songs as much as Dime and Vin.
Like Megadeth
The original Pantera were riding a wave that was destined to die out. Their glam thing, while heavy enough, was still basically done by '88-'89. They were at a crossroads, and I'm glad it worked out the way it did. Nothing against Terry, but it wasn't going anywhere.
Phil's late 90's - early 2k's douchbaggery aside, this is the truth. Without Phil Dime probably ends up in Megadeth or some other band that needed both guitar and drummer, and neither of the brothers have the same fame they have today.
@@jbm0866 just cuz the junk turned him into an a hole like it does to literally everyone. Can u name a friendly junky? That's not the real person. Phil's actually a nice guy. Who just wants forgiveness for something he never did. Douche

I still have Project in the Jungle, I am the Night, and Metal Magic on cassette tape. Back when he was Diamond Darrel.
I remember the early Pantera shows I am the night projects in the jungle shows Terry was great I rember Phil still singing in razor white before Troy marks took over vocals he was in dark August both great singers but when Phil left razor white and joined Pantera they took it to the next level
They took it to 'A New level'.

Terry should write a book.

Used to see the lineup with Terry ony hometown of Killeen Texas often in the early days. I know the wanted to distance themselves from the early sound, but those records kicked ass. I still listen to them......... PROJECTS IN THE JUNGLE!!!!🤘🤪🤘
Thank you
Terry's great. Lord Tracy's first album was huge amongst me and my friends, and some other local bands in my area.
I only played in two bands. My first band was in highschool and the other one was when I was 24 - 25. My first band was terrible and the member dynamic was horrible. We sounded bad because I had this little 50 watt Crate combo amp that sounded like a record player speaker and we practiced in the drummer's basement and it sounded horrible. My second band, we were tight in our playing and our friendship. Once drugs got involved it was over for me. I refused to play with someone that I didn't know what shape they were going to be in at practice and we practiced at his house. The other members drank but we did it after we were done. Two days before I quit, I was told we got asked to open for a local band. I saw the member of our band and he was blitzed out of his mind at practice. I just packed my stuff and left. He was laying on the couch and I don't know if he realized I was there. He was staring at the ceiling and talking to himself. It broke my heart and spirit to play with people. I heard he finally went to rehab almost 16 years later after the band. I saw him right before he went to rehab and he looked like he was mentally and physically burned out. I felt bad for him but didn't speak to him because I had my 3 year old with me. The guy was unpredictable so didn't know where his head was at.
Supremely interesting. Well done.
Easy to see the other side. Yeah, it was their band, in the sense that they started Pantera. But Phil that was a major contributor to the actual success.
How would you know?
For sure. A band like Pantera is the sum of its parts. You couldn't take Phil out of Pantera and still be Pantera. Ego and anger makes people say stupid things.

I can understand what Rex is talking about with Vinnie. He stayed petty about things till the end. There should of been a reunion long before what we have now. As far as not contributing to the band is bs. Rex was a big part of the band and played his position extremely well.
Petty ? The man saw his brother/ best friend: bandmate/ shot to death. And not only shot to death but shot right in the head. How do you even come back from that shit man ? Phil and Rex bailed on the band and now they wanna do a reunion tour? Whack shit if you ask me
@@ramon2008 do you know what you’re talking about? Not about Dime. But the rest. You are so far off base. They tried for years to get Vinnie to do a reunion. That’s the F’kn petty part I’m talking about. Rex and Phil didn’t bail on them as you say. Even when Dimes wife or girl said that’s what he would want. Vinnie stayed being petty about it. So yeah petty. And even if they wanted to go do some shot band sh1t so what. That’s not bailing.
@@ramon2008 What's whack is the fact roadies and fans took bullets for Dime while Vince ran backstage to call Rita.
@@ramon2008 yeah he did stay petty about it for too long. He blamed Phil for dimes death when it was actually no ones fault but the pos who shot him. The band split and they went separate ways. No one could have ever predicted that dime would be shot and Vinnie was always in the wrong for blaming Phil for it. He stayed bitter towards them both until he died.
@@ramon2008 did you ever think there may have been a reason the bailed? They left one of the biggest metal bands in the world. Do you think they did it just to spite the Abbotts? To what end?
I’m not ascribing blame but the writing was on the wall a long time before Pantera broke up.
I didn't even know about the pre-Cowboys From Hell Glam Era until I was on the Internet in the mid 90s. Going back and listening to it, there is some great stuff there! Different, but good! Yes, not just Power Metal. The Terry Glaze era has some great stuff too. It wasn't the souless MTV hair metal stuff, it had bight!
Bands are another form of a dysfunctional family, and being in bands myself I've seen my share of things. I've read a bit of Rex's book and said "OK, nothing new to see here." You can read any band biography or watch episodes of Behind The Music and they'll tell you the same thing. I've never read any account of any band or artist that wasn't dysfunctional. Even Hank Williams' autobiography. Some may be gifted like Dime, Vinnie, or EVH, but when you get off the stage it's a whole new ballgame. Smh.
Very true, a lot of bands I was in, I was always like that parent(hated that)I always shook my head. ppls ego gets out of place. The thing that got me, was I’d write all the music, I just wanted to jam it out. And why are these guys just arguing about petty stuff. But ppl get huge heads and start get angry about dumb stuff… I guess. Lol I’m like, can we just jam, get that aggression out on the drums or strings “cmon guys!?“ lol but very much is like a family, just gotta support each other.
Gibson TV just released a long form video with Rex Brown earlier today called Icons: Rex Brown of Pantera . It gives a great insight into his relationships with all the members of Pantera . Top notch.
a lot of it sounded like BS
Just a fluff piece to sell his overpriced bass
Killer video! Loved it.
Rex, Icon??? Pantera was iconic.
I watched that ICONs interview.. It was fucking awesome!!! Probably one of the best of the entire ICONs series!! He’s DEF not trying to sell any bass’ in this one!! I’d say watch it & see what you think!!
The bottom line is, everyone’s got their own interpretation of events. He doesn’t trash any-one or any-thing… I’d say he’s entitled to his opinions after everything’s said & done-just like everyone else.
And at the end of the day, Rex has one helluva story to tell-that’s for damn sure🎶✊🏼☮️
You could've put any half-capable metal bassist in Rex's place and the trajectory of Pantera would have been identical.

Pantera was so successful due to having not one but two standout talents in Dime & Phil just like Van Halen with EVH & Roth which is usually what defines the big ticket bands.A combo of guitar slinger & great singer is the Wonka golden ticket.
Yep, I was around the band in the early days and you nailed it.
Dude, in the 90's Vinnie was considered one of the premier drummers in rock and metal. He was in every magazine every month and had a HUGE Pearl Drums endorsement, which was pretty rare for a metal drummer at that time (I think it was just him and Igor), as most of them were with Tama, Yamaha. Your Van Halen comparison is correct, but it should read "Two standout talents in Dime & Vinnie, along with a charismatic and commanding front-man"

Rex said recently that Terry wanted to go to college. So, Terry wasn't interested and neither was he interesting. Rex also said back when his book came out that it was edited in a way that wasn't to his spec, which doesn't seem too weird in this crazy upside down world we live in. With regard to the voting part, it was always known from the beginning that this was the Abbott's band - thankfully they "worked it out" for the better.
I'm from Dallas, dime is 3 years younger than me, I used to hang with them in 84, and yeah you're right they were glam, but don't get it twisted, they were as heavy as metal could get, and as far as I'm concerned any metal band is only second place.
What was your opinion of Rigor Mortis back then? It’s my understanding there was quite a rivalry between the bands, and it was not very friendly.

Have you seen Tim and Eric's movie "The Terry's?"
So he’s says no one was difficult, and then spends the other 70% of the interview talking about the situations where the rest of the band and father were being difficult? Weird.
I think what he said was clear: he wouldn't have a say in the band due to the Abbots controlling it. That doesn't mean he didn't get along with them.

Donny Hart was the first singer for Pantera. He never recorded though.
And Tommy didn't either
Met them at a signing in Sydney around late '94. Vinnie was reserved but friendly, Phil was cool, Dime was every bit as awesome as you'd expect. Rex was an arrogant asshole complaining about fans having more than one item to sign. Always remembered that.
Ah, yes, the Utopia signing. I remember the same thing. Dime practically smashed my buddy's hand shaking it. Vinnie was happy to answer some drumming questions I had as the naive kid I was. Phil was chilled. Rex just didn't want to be there.
Pantera is my all time fav but Rex ain’t shit. Decent enough bass player but if he left the band at the height of their popularity, would anyone have cared? By far the most replaceable. And laugh free on the home vids.
One thing I'm stuck on is how badly... Phil spoke of Vin and darrell..in. Metal Hammer magazine.
He used to play guitar too.
I mean the "I Am The Night" Album with a Better singer and better Production would have been a Pretty Good Album . The last track is so cool on that Album . It's like an Eddie Van Halen kind of Tapping Riffing Moonlight Drive kind of Sexual Song . A Guy like Mark Slaughter for instance singing that Album would have been Epic .

I've heard very little of Pantera before CFH. But, it just seems weird to me to see that name on a stage, and the brothers are gone.
I think they should have called it something else. And that's no disrespect to Zakk and Charlie.
There's just no gray area about whether Vince would have been on board with this, or not.
He would have never played with Phil again.
Great for the fans that never got to see the real thing. If I hadn't seen them in 2001, I might be interested.
But,...just no.
Rex always just seemed soft spoken, maybe a little shy. Seemed that way in the Vulgar Video anyway.
I mean Vinny went on a public tirade blaming Phil for Dimes death, and blamed everyone else instead of himself when a short coming came along. Dude was an ass clown. Just because you have a good interaction with a person, doesn't make them a good person as a whole. And to find issue with Rex speaking his voice when Phil and to a FAR greater extent Vinnie have voiced their opinions on the subject and in Vinnies case has Slagged most people in their circle.
So it's a bit beyond me that you just couldn't comprehend why he would do something like that. It was literally his only real opportunity to give his 2 cents. Which he was just as much part of Pantera as any other member. Seems more like just jumping on the rex and phil hate boner wagon because that seems to be the cool thing to do...
Also funny how he says all this but then goes on to passive aggressively run down rex throughout the convo. Kinda mind blowing so many people here calling him a "class act" If he was an actual class act, he would have said that was between them as he has not been relevant in their lives for a very long time. Instead he threw his irrelevant 2 cents in hoping to get a touch of the limelight.
I agree with Terry's assessment of Rex's book. Even if that's how he felt and some of that was true, it felt unnecessary and in poor taste to air that all out in public. Just dumping more unpleasant drama on the legacy of a great band that ended way too soon
But Vinnie could just shit talk with impunity lol

Everyone gets emotionally invested but in ten years no one will care…except for the music. That’s the legacy. Jesus christ Ozzy was insinuating Tony was a closeted gay in the 80’s. And look at Dio’s shit talk (although I tend to believe Dio’s point of view). Both iterations of Sabbath have a legacy that will live on. Pantera’s music and legacy will always live on.

What Terry's not telling anyone, is that he wanted the Band to stay in a more Glam-Metal Vein, but that they had decided to go to a Power-Metal framework, and he wanted to keep the Glam-Metal makeup and look, whereas they (eventually) decided to drop that look, especially after 1988's Power Metal Album. There was definitely too much friction there, for Terry to be able to stay.
Did Rex even write any Pantara riffs, lyrics, arrangements, songs?
I’m pretty sure Dime talked about that and yes he did.
Rex and Vin basically started the band.
Phil has no right to say his band is Pantera, Dimebag, and Vinnie Paul were the main sounds behind Pantera, and the founding members, this is just another scab band, Zakk shouldn't have even volunteered for this, he's a good musician, but Dimebag was in a league of his own, so was Vinnie paul
And now Rex is making money off the Abbott brothers name

Bonnie and rexs issues were their issues nobody else’s, it’s not something should be speaking about on a public forum, especially if it’s not the two guys it was between, end of the day pantera got no attention until they got rid of this guy
I never made it past EVH being coked out at Dime's funeral in Rex's book. I didnt find a lot of it all that interesting.

People coming out of the woodwork to make a coin.
I’m not saying Phil isn’t an asshole at times and hasn’t said and done some really stupid shit but the narrative I think has gotten completely out of hand with a lot of fans. The narrative now is that Vinny was a perfect person and because his brother, Dime, one of the greatest guitar players of all time was tragically, took from us that he just got a pass. I love to Pantera they are one of my favorite bands, but people are only human and people make mistakes and that includes Vinny as well. Yeah, it was really stupid for Phil to say that dime should be beaten up, but to suggest that’s why dime was killed is really stupid and to go out and say that publicly is it just as stupid.
After dime had passed away, feel, tried over and over again to make things right with Vinny and Vinny. Just use the fact that Phil was an asshole before dime was killed as the reason to hold a grudge forever. To me that looks like Vinny really just didn’t want to have anything to do with Phil and he had an excuse now and he was going to hold onto that excuse until the day he died and that’s exactly what he did . That doesn’t mean Vinny is this perfect person that never made any mistakes. In reality, I think Vinny and Phil both made mistakes. I mean what did Rex ever do to deserve to have things like that shit about him like he was just a nobody and anyone could’ve filled that spot. I wish diamond Vinny were both still here with us. I hated that one of the greatest metal bands of all time and did the way it did.
Sounds like Rex may have had a point after all.
Rex?…. Got lucky???!!! Lol
I saw Pantera at least 50x but unfortunately never with Phillip. Those first albums were never glam. Pantera was always heavier than glam rock. The look though? Yeah maybe, but the music was pretty solid metal.

Vinnie is loves by the fans, a great drummer and is dimes blood brother, but i find it easy to believe he could have been hard to work with at some point or took his shit out on others ans handled things like shit especially when he was grieving .
