Terry has a great outlook. Positive dude!
I played that whole circuit back then.Opened up for them( pre-Phil era) several times.
Vince& Darrell discovered us at DLP studios in Arlington &gave us are 1st real gig.Good times🤘
What was the name of your band?
@@fullinbloom Lightning
@@luvmedrums4057 Oh shit, I remember Lightning. You guys were a big deal. Wasn't Kinley in the band?
@@fullinbloom And Rocky Athas? Saw Rocky and Kinsley many times if I'm thinking of the same Lighting.
@@lanceross3633 Same one yep :)
Rip pantera and the abbott brothers, you are truly missed.
Ask Terry about playing the Woodstock club in Harker Heights/Killeen Texas back in 84. I used to see Pantera a lot back them. Outside Fort Hood. Those were the days.
myself also. ft hood 83-86 6th cav bde.
That's cool 1/8th cav. 1st Cav. Div.83-84. Lot of cool clubs back then in harker heights.
@@Mission2Transition641 i remember the kixs 93 mug nights. 93cent beer nite. get your beer n head to back of line. it would be empty by the time u made it back to front of line. lol
Adam, you're an awesome interviewer w/great voice
I saw them many times in Dallas/Fort Worth. I also worked on Darrell's Dean guitars many times when I worked at Melody Shop in the early/mid 80s. Great band.
Do you remember if they played any Power Metal songs before Phil joined the band? Very interesting my man!
@@nikki78225 I can’t say with certainty that they did. But some of the riffs that are on Power Metal are similar to what Dimebag would play during his solo. He would play bits of riffs interspersed with his shredding that sounded similar to some of that album. I wish I could be more specific.
@@lanceross3633 Thank you for answering! I watched a bootleg the have Burnnn! off Power Metal but only the last chorus maybe because they dont want you to hear it. and then some slow versions of PST88 and Over And Out right at the very end.
@@lanceross3633 "After one of the shows, Metallica front man/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich went over to Darrell's garage to jam. While Ulrich watched, Hetfield and Darrell riffed away all night long, swapping licks and techniques as they went. (It was from this jam that rumors began to circulate that Hetfield had borrowed some of Darrell's licks, and vice versa)."
They also recorded "Down Below" with Terry in I Am The Night which is like better than Phil s version@@nikki78225
Never got to see them with Terry. First time I saw them was day before the Texas Jam in 1987 at Savvy's in Ft Worth. They played mostly Judas Priest and Metallica covers (well) and one original: Proud to be Loud. Phil talked to us out in the parking lot, thanked us for coming out. He was driving a little shitty yellow Honda. Lol Good times.
Still talk to Terry often, he's always taking the high road about Pantera. He's a really humble, groovy kind of guy. That's more than I can say about Enselmo.
Its a shame the first four albums have not been properly remastered and released
I agree!! I have had unofficial bootlegs of the first four Pantera albums for years, but always wanted them to officially be released and remastered. I love your taste in music. I am subscribed to Sea Of Tranquility and enjoy your views on music and horror movies. Take care brother.
yeah but there still are avalible on you tube.
Vinnie just didn't want them ever to be heard, i did a video on old Pantera and talk about it. check it out
They viewed those first four albums as demos. I've had bootleg copies of all of them for years. They aren't bad for what they are and the year each came out.
@@johnkatsoudas4767 especially Power Metal
re-released yes.... but wouldn't want them remastered. re-released as they were
Lord Tracy had a great bass player and drummer :)
Kinley Wolfe (Barney)
Good times 90s at the basement!
I had the worst crush on Terry's girlfriend (now wife) when we were young. She was so cute, but more importantly she was wicked smart and kind. Now she works at NASA. Terry found a great one when he was young and stuck with her.
Great interview!! I love listening to Terry talk. A great positive vibe as always. I am the night was my introduction to them in 86. Come on eyes is so good!! I dig that record alot.
Great Guitarist. Band meh
PanterA had a awesome start I love all their albums !

I saw Terry with Lord Tracey. The dude knew his craft.
was there some dig at Terry in the PST88 song? it sounds like you were alluding to that
Yes. Soon after Phil joined the band, at some point during the show, Phil would leave the stage and Pantera would jam as a 3-piece with Dime on vocals. They would always dedicate the song to Terry. I probably saw them 50+ times in the clubs once Phil joined, and they did it every time.
@@fullinbloom I remember in a Metal Forces magazine right after Phil joined, Dime said something like "its a lot better now that we don't have a total fag for a singer". I also seem to remember the line "Its a dirty job Creedence, but somebody had to do it" from Down Below being a shot at him too, I've seen a few times where Terry would sign his name as "Creedence" and heard that was his nickname back then. I met Phil a few years ago and he said he did all the vocals for Power Metal in one take. Did they ever do Terry songs with Phil on vocals back then? I've only ever seen them do Right On The Edge with Phil
@@zachary_attackery I didn't get to see them when Phil was doing Cinderella covers with them. By the time I saw them with Phil, it was right when they released Power Metal. At that time, they would do Come On Eyes and Hot n Heavy.
@@fullinbloom Is there any footage of them playing those Cinderella songs ?
@@cheeseguy4998 Theres a bootleg right before Phil joined with Dave Peacock singing Shake Me, but a shorter version. Some great unheard stuff on that bootleg!

Okay
They're good on record,,but not the greatest live band.
Implying that they were subpar or something live? Please...
The band was kind of a joke until Philip came on board. Third rate hair metal and that's being generous. There's a reason why these albums are out of print, The brothers were ashamed of them and don't want any part of That era, understandably. Imagine the alternate world we'd be living in had they not run into Metallica when they did and replaced Terrence?
Says u.
The Big 4 of Thrash are to blame for Terry's Removal in 1986
Those records were part of the journey.
It’s kinda lame to try and hide their progression
Rubbish, they were better than all of the more popular 'hair metal' acts, younger as well, hardly 'third rate'
Bubba, you obviously have never spoken to either brother, or Terry. Vinny & Darrell both have never been "ashamed" of those albums. For that time period, those records were killer. It's a bit funny to hear all you millennials talk shit about a time, a band, a genre, a f*@king lifestyle that you clearly know absolutely nothing about. And anyone who puts Anselmo on a pedestal, is probably doing the same kind of dope that got his dumb ass kicked out of the band to begin with.
