I love many of these albums that he worked on. I’ve heard quite a few of his interviews and it’s funny because for somebody that can recall every detail from a select few things, cannot recall the basics sometimes.
It is because when you start telling lies, keeping the facts straight gets hard. Werman has reached that stage of life where he regrets losing track of things during his cocaine-fueled days, so he invents stuff to make up for the loss. Call it the Carrie Fisher Syndrome.
I have your interview with Werman to thank for introducing me to The Wildhearts. I'd never heard of them before; love that band, I think they should be bigger.
Motley Crue, Shout at The Devil. The intro to "In The Beginning", That sound at the start is an F-15 fighter jet taking off with super slow audio playback. That was Jeff Workman who came up with the idea. 👍

That isn’t true at all. Producers literally are hired to CRITIQUE THE MUSIC, or is 50% of their job, to say what is a take what sounds good and what doesn’t. Lynch was always doing coke and was probably paranoid and raging. Only armatures see their music as deeply personal. A musician wants to communicate .

Not sure why Tom has to keep bashing conservatives/republicans in this??? That has nothing to do with what he is talking about here and to me says he is lying here...
Yeah, George Lynch is known to be a malicious prick. When Tom recalled the time George lost his mind after Tom told him to play the solo on Tooth and Nail melodic, I remembered a recent interview with Don who said creating a melodic solo isn't in George's wheelhouse.
George is "known to be a malicious prick" by whom???? Don??? Jeff, Mick and George are all still friends and worked together for decades after Dokken - Jeff and George still do. George has played with a TON of other musicians after Dokken and made lots of great music. I don't recall ANY of those dozens of bands/musicians that say anything bad about George (let alone calling him a malicious prick). Other than Don (who hates everybody and everything) not sure who you are talking about. And Werman is clearly pissed, but it is fairly common for musicians and producers to argue when making records....especially when you got a guy who is super talented and wants to shred and you have Don, who wants to be "the lead guy" and Werman who was, as he said, a folk guitar player. If they had their way and got George out of the Band during Tooth and Nail, Dokken would have folded.
Complete bullshit. “Jaded Heart,” Slipping’ Away,” “Stop Fighting Love,” “Burnin’ Like a Flame,” “Walk Away,” “Unchain the Night”? Just to name a few off the top of my head.
I absolutely love George Lynch's guitar work - especially the early Dokken ( thru Back for the Attack ) and the Lynch Mob "Wicked Sensation" albums. As a guitarist myself , I would also say without a doubt George is in my top 10 rock guitarists of all time - that said - it does seem George has either a reality or truth problem. He just seems like he is constantly putting other people down...and after enough years of that have gone by...you have to question if George is not actually most of the problem.
I’ve worked with George on several occasions for festival gigs and what not as his guitar tech. He’s the nicest guy you’ll ever meet. After being around him a few times I couldn’t help but think to myself…Don was the problem, not George.
He's full of shit about Tucker Carlson editing the Jan. 6 video U can't make people walk calmly through the white house by editing. He has lost all credibility now.
George always ALWAYS had this competitive jealous thing with guitar players. Especially with Randy Rhoads. I met George and asked him about Randy. George just smiled at me and wouldn't say anything else like I shouldn't have asked him. He had no remorse when Randy died, and always said mean things about him. I talked once to the guy that was actually taking lessons off George at Musonia when they broke in the room and said Randy just was killed. The student told me and Kelle Rhoads was there too, that George just laughed and said now maybe he can get his chance. So what, if in fact George's claim he showed him the tapping type lick Randy used on flying high. He should be proud Randy used it. It's no different than everyone borrowing a Hendrix lick or Chuck Berry lick in famous guitar solo. In the Randy Rhoads documentary being made, he was the only one that wanted paid for it saying something about Randy. He was always Jealous of Randy and also Ed.. Georges style was more like Ed than Randy in the beginning anyways.
What a colossal set of lies this comment is. Just plain bull shit all the way around. I’ve also talked to Kelle about their relationship. Randy thought George was better than EVH. He respected George. Why did he pick him to take his place at Musiconia. George thinks highly of Randy.
That's musical competition. I highly doubt George would have said that in front or around Kelle. Delores would have commanded enough respect from George. I won't believe it was that malicious. But I wasn't there.
I have talked to George numerous times. I met Tom once and talked to him when I stayed at his B&B. 40 years is a long time to remember nuanced details. I don't think George was being mean spirited when he made his comments. I would like to hear Tom address George's stone soup charge. Fiction or an opinion? Seems to me these are subjective arguments. In the end Tom respects George's abilities. And George never said one negative thing to me when I've talked to him about Tom. Let's celebrate the product. It's epic.
George was actually right about the prison labor, LOL. It was something Peavey tried to keep quiet at the time. Peavey has left Mississippi now of course so who knows what they get up to.
Werman, the Jan 6th comparison? Totally unnecessary and dumb. Unnecessary because this is music, leave out the politics (you here that Bono?) and dumb because Tom is wrong. @@guitarizt68 You know that old saying lol......opinions are like a$$ holes, everyone's got one but everybody thinks everyone else's stinks but their own.

Actually, the metaphor is:
"Opinions are like assholes - everyone has one and they all stink" 😉
I love many of these albums that he worked on. I’ve heard quite a few of his interviews and it’s funny because for somebody that can recall every detail from a select few things, cannot recall the basics sometimes.
I noticed that too but remember he is 78 years old
It is because when you start telling lies, keeping the facts straight gets hard. Werman has reached that stage of life where he regrets losing track of things during his cocaine-fueled days, so he invents stuff to make up for the loss. Call it the Carrie Fisher Syndrome.
More like the mark brooks syndrome@@markbrooks8623
NEVER heard one person say they liked working with Lynch. Everything about him is negative. That tells me everything.
How about Pilson, Brown and Lynch Mob?
I have your interview with Werman to thank for introducing me to The Wildhearts. I'd never heard of them before; love that band, I think they should be bigger.
Motley Crue, Shout at The Devil. The intro to "In The Beginning", That sound at the start is an F-15 fighter jet taking off with super slow audio playback. That was Jeff Workman who came up with the idea. 👍
Yeah lol...... Motley Crue needed sound effects lmfao 🤣
And it is Geoff's voice
Wish you could go in depth on the first 2 or 3 Hatchet albums with Werman.
This guy’s great to listen to. I will say (not defending George here) if you critique a musician’s playing, you gotta expect a negative response. It’s a deeply personal expression. Maybe George just needed time to cool off. But, no doubt in my mind-Tom made these guys sound amazing.
As far as blaming Tom Werman for anything crazy. Tooth and Nail is superb!
I’ll never understand the hype around tooth and nail. Under lock and key is FAR superior
I prefer Tooth and Nail but Under Lock and Key is right up there with it in my opinion.
@@Wolfie66 idk I just think tooth and nail is a little too raw. Production on under lock and key is just so crisp and the record is just very consistent.
@@benjamingrant9100... Under Lock and Key had about 10 times the budget, and each member had his own separate 48 track recording.... Which was insanely overkill. As good as it was, it didn't achieve the success the record company put into it. They were really hoping for AFD or Slippery When Wet numbers for this album. Tooth and Nail was Dokken at their heaviest. ULAK was more like Hysteria, going for the melodic harmonies and more hair metalish
@@enickma setting those kind of expectations are just absurd even from a label’s standpoint. From a production standpoint I’m with u on the hysteria part but as far as the material it wasn’t really softer, just much more refined. You can tell on tooth and nail that it’s not very polished and their ideas are a little scattered that’s why I think ULAK is a massive step up from its prior effort.
I have a professional guitar player friend who has met george lynch many times, Supposedly he is shockingly down to earth..
@@douglaslane2570buddy that’s not what Don or producers say
That’s ok. The truth hurts many people’s feelings. Oh well. George has every right to speak his mind and be opinionated.

Tooth and Nail, thank you! My favourite '80s Metal album.
Dude made Stryper sound incredible on Against The Law.
Can Werman whine anymore?
Dude is just a whiner. Hard to listen to, imo.

That is a great comment dude. Seriously.
Or George Soros
I have talked to George numerous times. I met Tom once and talked to him when I stayed at his B&B. 40 years is a long time to remember nuanced details. I don't think George was being mean spirited when he made his comments. I would like to hear Tom address George's stone soup charge. Fiction or an opinion? Seems to me these are subjective arguments. In the end Tom respects George's abilities. And George never said one negative thing to me when I've talked to him about Tom. Let's celebrate the product. It's epic.
george has said some oddball things like peavey was using prison labor to build their amps. love george
It’s an exaggeration but he’s trying to make a point about the working conditions back then.
George was not the only person to accuse Peavey of using prison labor.
George was actually right about the prison labor, LOL. It was something Peavey tried to keep quiet at the time. Peavey has left Mississippi now of course so who knows what they get up to.
@@MattSmithMe what exactly is prison labor?

Werman, the Jan 6th comparison? Totally unnecessary and dumb. Unnecessary because this is music, leave out the politics (you here that Bono?) and dumb because Tom is wrong. I really think some political analogies would better help me grasp what he's talking about there.
I really makes me doubt if what he's saying is true even though I know George was a bit prickly back in the day.
I'm glad you also caught that. There's a few of us that did notice that. That was uncalled for an unnecessary that he made that political comment. Leave that in his head I believe. Great producer, but still he needs to keep that to himself
Don't sweat it Tom. You seem like a SUPER stand-up guy who has moved on with his life with yet other successful endeavors. Hold the needle on the album. Pause it. Tucker Carlson did play the unedited full version and Tucker was telling the truth. Tom werman is an awesome producer. He was on a lot of classic albums. I like Werman and Lynch. That said, speaking in general the phrase "hothouse flower" might apply to lots of 80s era guitarists when getting "their sound". Dokken has a known history of inner conflict so it's little surprise it might spill over with a producer. Werman was involved in a lot of very successful albums though might not have been right for Dokken.

I like some of George's playing. And as another person said, When I feel like Dokken I go to Tooth and Nail. I like their 1st LP too. Anyway, I saw Dokken in 88 on the Monsters of Rock tour in Wisc. One of the 1st if not the 1st of those shows and it was great. But during Dokken, the weirdest, spiraling sound kept coming out, like a malfunction from George's amps during his solo bits, whatever. Maybe somebody was really pissed, van Halen? Someone for a remark he made. It was obvious to me that someone sabotaged his gear. Next up? Scorpions! They blew everyone away. No technical problems before or after. And sadly. I really wanted to hear George at his best but this thing, man, screwed up their gig.
I noticed in Detroit at the monsters of rock Dokken was all bass and drums...couldn't hear the guitar at all most of the show, plus when Don started singing on the FIRST song they didn't have his vocal turned on.
It’s not sabotage. Sound difficulties happen all the time. It’s harder than you think to mix a sound.
George is kinda like Yngwie....great ability but two or three songs and I'm out. Bring on Jake or someone similar that really "gets it" and I will play it over and over and over....

Tom Werman's track record cranking out hit albums is undeniable. Couldn't get more polar opposites than Don and George, and it's amazing that they stayed together long enough as they did without killing each other in the process. Maybe George was an ass to Werman, but hey he was young, one of the best coming out of the LA guitar scene, and wasn't going to let anyone short of Eddie Van Halen or Randy Rhoads tell him how to play his shit. Sure it's a lot of walking on glass for Werman, but that's part of the producer life. Especially when it's rock n roll and a whole bunch of egos.
