The best news of today: Katherine released the 1st episode of a new series :-) Thanks a lot, take care of the trees, everything is fine ;-) And take care of yourself, of course!
Left click to craft 1 Item Right click to craft 5 Items Shift+Left Click to craft all Items BUT when doing so it'll stack them all too meaning that you'll be creating for an example 150 fast inserters in 1 go where as spamming the Right Mouse Button on said item will craft 5 at a time meaning you can build a little while the rest is being made
I have over 750+ hours in factorio and NEVER thought about this at 4:50 I am just trained to defend from all angles but this so smart because it lifts some of that stress of defending from everywhere, and this is why I love this game and community because there is always something new to learn whether you’re a veteran or a beginner
For the people new to this game: Instead of getting a coal rock or a tree, you can also just mine a piece of coal from the ore to kickstart your coal miners :)
"Grrrrrreeetings and welcome back to Factorio..." i was flapping my hands like an over excited child..aged 50 o0 . Happy to have you with us again Katherine, hope the pain and discomfort subside .
I can't stress how useful this series is for people who play Factorio more casually. Most newbie guides spend far too long stating the obvious and skipping all the tips while the more advanced guides assume you know all the tips and basic building patterns. Without videos like this you end up having to search through reddit, imgur, wiki pages and countless bits and pieces to get vaguely competant at the basics of the game. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this up to date guide for 1.0!
Finally. I was almost cured of my KoS Factorio addiction. So happy to have your videos again but of course your health comes first, your cats second and then we. So take life on your own pace 😊
This was my most anticipated video since factorio 1.0 released. I’ve been watching you play for years at this point. I’m so happy to see you play. Please don’t over do it, take care of yourself you’re worth it! Cheers!
Technically, they didn't have to give you anything... You can mine stone and make a stone furnace. Mine iron and put it in the furnace. Get wood or coal and put it in the furnace. Repeat until you can make a burner miner. If they did that though, the pre-power stage would take absolutely for. ev. er.
One of the things I like about this introduction, is that it doesn't become instantly uber complicated. Nor does it simply instantly use vast and complex models to sort out every problem. At the beginning you should be have some messiness. I like starting with some small scale activity. If at the very beginning you are talking about where your rocket is going to blast off from, you miss something in the game, I believe. I accept, that if this is your thousandth beginning, then skipping over all this initial stuff makes sense. But for someone new, something like this is the way to go.
My wife has some neuropathy so I understand and have a lot of empathy for you. Regardless of the struggle, you still put out some of the best factorio content there is. Thank you!
Yaaaaaaaay I'm so excited for 1.0! Currently I've been playing too much Satisfactory to have time for Factorio, but at least I can scratch the Factorio itch vicariously by watching you have some fun with it!
I have watched all of your Factorio "Entry Level > Megabase" Tutorials and I have used a lot of your tips. But, mostly, I will play your video lists in the background while I play other games such as WoW or Fallout 4 because you have such a soothing voice!!
I know Nilaus is really trying to have a beginner friendly youtube series but KoS you really knock it out of the park right away with how you explain things. I watched your videos back at 0.17 start and haven't played in about a year now so I feel like a noob again. Thanks so much for your content.
I have watched so many Factorio LPs (including yours) and I'm finally picking up the game to play for myself. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to dive back into Factorio LPs and lo and behold, this one was fresh to me!
heard a lot of good stuff about your channel from other LPers, and i've seen you come up in my search results quite a lot. first time i'm giving your videos a go. looking forward to it. edit: thank you for the clear explanations of the menuing and hotkeys and basic concepts that most other players skip past. that's what i've been missing from the other beginner guides i've tried watching. also, i really love that you mention your disability and how you use a mod to make the game more accessible for you. i have a disability that similarly makes it difficult to make precise inputs and play for extended periods, so it's really nice hearing such a popular player be so casual and frank about their accessibility needs in gaming.
as a beginner this is exactly the kind of video I've been looking for, perfect pacing, everything explained with conciseness and clarity. thank you very much!
A KOS Factorio series? Yes!! Thank you for the map string, I have saved the start and am chomping at the bit to play later. I hope you are feeling well, we missed you.
I just wanted to thank you for this series. I've watched it up through episode 31 (and I'll finish it, I promise), but I wanted to try out what I learned, so I started a new game - Railworld but with Biter Expansion enabled, and I didn't preview the map. The excitement is real :)
So glad you're making a new series for 1.0! Your videos fueled my love for the game back when I started and looking forward to getting back into it with you as well. Cheers!
Tutorials like these are so invaluable for beginners because this game has the steepest learning curve of any game I’ve played. I’ve been riding the struggle bus for three days straight trying to mostly figure stuff out on my own lol. Haven’t launched a rocket yet 🙃 and I’m not even playing with enemies on 😭
So happy to see / hear ya playing again. I hope all gets better. I really like the jump start mods as the beginning can be the slowest. Starting with robots is just a great quality of life kinds of thing.
I haven’t watched the video yet because I’m at work. I just wanted to say hey and that I really enjoy your factorio content. I started playing at the end of 0.12 and really appreciate the time and effort you put into making this content for us.
Thank you for taking the time to make this guide, it really helps someone who wants to like factorio but finds all the complex systems in it kind of staggering, I really appreciate it and if any of my friends pick up the game it will be the first video I show them, take care of yourself out there, and kittenofsky!

A tiny note about 29:50 - you actually only need one inserter to take out belts: you only have one inserter feeding the gears, but a gear needs two iron plates, so you only produce a gear every two swings. That gear is then turned into two belts, which means the outserter can do two swings before the next production cycle and keep up with the belts.
8:29, yes, it's very important to remember trees aren't always the enemy. I completely forgot this on my most recent map roll. Got to the point where I had to turn peaceful mode on. Got all the way through blue science before the attacks and base spawns came faster than I could take care of them, and the laser/shooting speed research I had completed still wasn't enough to hold the raids off. Glad to see you playing Factorio again, can't wait for this series.
If you really dislike trees, one option is to double up the pollution absorption of grass. Also, be ready for a slow early game, as you only have 2 power poles.
Just started playing this game... imKibitz got me in the door, KoS made me stick around... I foresee countless hours in this game and I shall be following this entire series, bravo ma'am!
I've recently got myself a COVID-19, so it's time to finally learn Factorio. I'm a complete newcomer to Factorio and I'm really glad that I've found this channel and particularly this set of videos. IMHO, this game is kinda "Hard to Learn, Hard to Master" so these videos help a lot! Even watching a video I have to pause sometimes and think over what's going on or do some math.
I've wanted to get back into factorio forever but I've been waiting for 1.0 haha, I'm super excited to get back into it now, especially since I'll literally have the guru of factorio guiding me along the way. Cheers for the absolutely amazingly detailed content!!! Keep up the great work, but please put yourself first, and take as much time as you need in between videos
I don't know anything about this game but a man with a lovely voice and odd humor has led me to this channel. I will literally have no idea what's going on half of the time but I guess I'll eventually understand. Edit: it has been a while since I've seen a RUclipsr calmly explain what's going on, I guess I've struck gold.
Thank You! I watched a few of your videos a few months back whilst deciding to if I wanted to purchase Factorio. Needless to say I went ahead and brought the game and I have enjoyed it ever since. So gain THANK YOU!.
I just found your channel. Very cool! I'm just getting back into Factorio myself w/ the v1.0 release. Out of curiosity, here are a couple mods I'm fond of and wonder what your opinion of them is: - Side Inserters: lets you adjust to pickup from the L or R side as well as rear, and place to near or far lane. Gives you more options for layouts. Bonus: inserters run a bit faster w/ side pickup, as the arm doesn't have to swing as far. - Electric Furnaces: gives you electric versions of the stone and steel furnaces w/ comparable stats. (Same speed, but reduced pollution, I believe.) Trade off running coal lines w/ needing more electric generation - Warehousing Mod: gives you storage sheds and warehouses acting as very large chests. More storage plus insertion/extraction from multiple points. I'll have to take a look at nanobots myself. Any others you suggest might be interesting w/out massively changing/overhauling the game? Hang in there w/ the migranes and neuropathy! (I have a bit of the latter myself -- Mostly in the feet.)
Hiya. Side Inserters: Those kinds of inserters are kind of meh for me. (A lot of mods have them). I enjoyed the puzzle aspect of the game. Electric Furances: I don't know why you would use that. I like the selection in vanilla. Warehousing: I don't like buffers, so I never use this mod. It can be useful on things with multiple byproducts like angels bobs, however there are better solutions now that we have priority splitters . I like Auto-Deconstruct, disco science, squeak through, and for a little more complexity, Production Scrap 2.
I was about to say that this let's play needs a lot more views because of the way you're explaining all the mechanics and even shortcuts, but apparently I'm not the only who thinks so. 👏
I played Factorio blind when it was still early access and it was fun but didn't reach the endgame because my base was a clusterfuck. Now with 1.0 I'll be more efficient using your videos. Thanks for the guides and content.
38:45 I once put a burner inserter onto a blue belt. All the coal zipped passed the inserter and the poor inserter couldn't grab it. Soon it ran out of energy so it wasn't even able to feed itself afterwards. Funny stuff.
Ohhhh I bought the game for about 3 weeks now, been playing every second I have free and I have so many questions... but I loved your video, watching during my eating time and already subscribed!! Hope your hand doesn't hurt that much, keep doing Factorio videos!!
@@KatherineOfSky OMG you answered! *inner scream of fanboy* keep the good stuff coming, was reading your profile info in Patreon, wish you the best :) Greetings from Costa Rica, from a Factorio fan and 3 dogs
I have 53 hours in this game i always start new games so i can start things differently but this video really help me get the hang of everything especially in the start when i always have trouble hence why i restart a lot
On my first day of playing factorio I saw the solar panels and I was like that’s my goal cause I was still a noob and was feeding coal to make power. I didn’t even know I had the electric miner on me I thought it was another water pump cause it color. Haha
I finally bought the game last night and loving it. Thank goodness i found this video though- i've been using an inserter to feed my forge from the drill. Didn't realise you could just put them right beside each other and they would autofeed!!
I just got into this game and watching this has nice little tips and tricks I never knew of (shift clicking for example). Defo gonna watch up on this series as I progress
I'm not new here, but I did not know you too suffered from chronic migraines. I've had them for 22 years now. Factorio was my go-to game back when I was streaming a few years ago, just because you control the flow of both the game and time yourself, and it is challenging while still not having much of a competitive component. I have found it is the perfect game for those of us who can't really concentrate that much, find it hard to focus unless we ultra-focus and need something you can dip in and out of without losing anything. So today I got back into it after about 2 years of hiatus. Of course, starting with some KOS vids to get back into the mindset.
I hope it brings you as much of the time-warp joy as it does to me! Whenever I have had a long hiatus, I just have to play for a bit, or listen to the in-game music and it just has this wonderful relaxing effect on me. I just started a factory last week in my livestream, if you enjoy livestreaming, please come and visit: playing on Saturday Noon, MT.
I always loved your Factorio videos and your way of mentioning thingies and undergroundies 😀 Unfortunately I didn't realize you did this series after release 😥 Great to see you back online on RUclips 💜

Definetly, adding with 600-800, this adds only needing defence for 2 sides

I have enjoyed your game play on factorio for years. It is nice to have you do the tutorials, So much Information to absorb
Ideally you want two inserters feeding the gears, so two out is also recommendeed.

On my first day of playing factorio I saw the solar panels and I was like that’s my goal cause I was still a noob and was feeding coal to make power. I didn’t even know I had the electric miner on me I thought it was another water pump cause it color. Haha
this is the series that made me decide to buy factorio. thank you KOS.

Take care of yourself so we can keep seeing your videos (and so you'll be healthier of course). Love your videos and I look forward to your content.

I finally bought the game last night and loving it. Thank goodness i found this video though- i've been using an inserter to feed my forge from the drill. Didn't realise you could just put them right beside each other and they would autofeed!!

Kath back with the Factorio! 1.0 Hype!
Thank you!
I'm absolutely delighted so see another KoS series :D
Hi Katherine, hope you're doing fine. I so love your voice. So calm and relaxed. Goodluck with the base!
I always loved your Factorio videos and your way of mentioning thingies and undergroundies 😀 Unfortunately I didn't realize you did this series after release 😥 Great to see you back online on RUclips 💜
Woooo! I love your Factorio play throughs, also really enjoying your ooblets run
