  • @LennyTheHopeless
    @LennyTheHopeless 9 лет назад +283

    This sounds exactly like me. I get 9 to 12 to 14 hours a day of sleep on average (more on the weekends though) and whenever I wake up I'm always feeling super tired and worn out. Like I just wanna sleep all day and I don't want to do anything else. I'm lazier, than ever. And whenever I'm feeling tired, mom tells me to drink coffee or ice tea. But it usually takes about 3, 4, or sometimes 5 cups before I feel energized. The first couple usually only make me stay awake but don't take away my feeling of tiredness and laziness. It makes my body awake, though not my mind, if that makes any sense.
    I'd like to know more if possible.
    Ah, also, I'd like to mention that it is extremely hard to wake up in the mornings. My mind seems to shut off the noise of the alarm and my brain will trick me into thinking the time is different than it actually is, although i don't know if too much sleep is what caused that.

      Lenny The Hopeless You sound like myself and I have Idiopathic Hypersomnia (Dr. Rye is now my doctor - I'm from Michigan, but I travel to ATL to go to Emory now). Have your primary doctor do the usual suspects testing for fatigue (iron deficiency, thyroid, etc. etc.). Then, see if you can get a referral to a sleep disorders center. They need to do a nigh time (what you'd consider typical) sleep study. Then, the following day you need to have an MSLT (multi sleep latency test) done. Keep in mind that while the MSLT is the "gold standard" for diagnosing IH and Narcolepsy...it's HIGHLY flawed in the opinion of some lead doctors/researchers in the field. What you report in terms of sleepiness/alertness/sleep time etc. is equally important. Assuming nothing blood wise is off and the night time test doesn't reveal anything disturbing your sleep (sleep apnea, restless leg syndrom etc.) and you don't have any medications causing the effects, or another condition where hypersomnia is a secondary factor (MS, some mental health problems, some pain disorders, Lyme disease, etc.), then if you still have the long sleep times and the excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), then you're likely a candidate for the diagnosis of IH. Keep in mind, I'm not a medical professional, but I have had IH my entire life, so from what you've said and assuming the ruling out of the other things, you sound very much like an IH dx from your brief description. The "sleep drunkenness" is a huge problem for me (and others). Thank goodness for cell phones, because I can program multiple alarms and have different tones on them (1 tone for too long just starts turning into parts of my dreams - my old alarm back when I was in school was often a fire alarm in my dreams). I crave sleep constantly. Without meds, I'm basically not even functional anymore. The meds are far from perfect or a cure, but I'm thankful I can at least work and do things, albeit sleepy most of the time. Feel free to contact me if you want resources on where to get information. I see your post was 9 months ago, so maybe this article sparked your quest for an answer already with doctors. Best of luck to you!

I have an amazing girlfriend, supportive family, my own place but can't say I want to be alive. It can be very painful, lots of anxiety. Wish it was something physical but seems doubtful. Don't really know though because the health care in the UK is a bit of a disaster. It's good for emergency treatment, good in that everyone can be treated the same. But anything else or much else and it's years spent on waiting lists. Literally years.

      It is far more complicated than that, but if this can help the person awesome. But usually there are other issues than an overstimulated brain. Sometimes hormonal. Sometimes it's levels in general. Sometimes it is the brain. other times it's the nerves. Sleeping and dreaming are one of the many things we do not understand. I would avoid medications of any kind for sleep. They're often more dangerous than expected. As someone who can go 9 days without sleep, or sleep for two days straight, is someone who is always tired, it's hard. Most people have NO IDEA or frame of reference for these disorders. They do not have it extreme, but I would love for other people to experience not sleeping for days or weeks, or sleeping excessively. Maybe then people would have better appreciation for what I am personally going through and my own energy levels. unless you're suffering from a similar condition you just won't understand. @@treefrog123a

Then when you wake up do jumping jacks or running to boost your cortisol to fully wake you up instead of coffee. Drinking coffee under 90minutes after waking up will make you tired as soon as the caffeine hits it's halftime. Hope this helps!

      Circadian rhythm disorder. I have it too but it's too isolating. Try switching to a schedule where you get up by 1pm so that you can get some little things done. You can go to sleep at 10pm. Also, to reset your Circadian rhythm it is important to go outside within 30 mins upon awakening without sunglasses for just 5-10 mins. Even just sitting there doing nothing. No sunglasses though bc the natural sun needs to hit your eyes. After doing this for 2 to 3 wks you can reset yourself. A Dr told me to also go outside right before sunset & watch sunset. Afterwards just go to sleep and get up earlier the next day. And open your blinds right away after getting up.

    The beginning of 2024 I had two bad nights of sleep, one of them i had 0 hours. I slept for 8 hours for 3 days and i still didn’t feel right so i thought I could counter my sleep debt by sleeping for 9-11 hours of sleep. I’ve been over sleeping for 2 weeks and symptoms got worse. I went back to 7-8 hours and in 4 days my symptoms went away. Thankfully I changed my sleep back to normal because I’ve possibly could’ve been hospitalized soon.

    I sleep all the time. I think it is because I am a caregiver to my LRT. I used to have a lot of energy but now my days consist of going to the the ER and his doctors every other day. I am bored to death. He never wants to go anywhere. Every day he has some new ailment

    Okay well this is a super misleading title no? The title says "the dangers of Sleeping too much". But the video is really about "The dangers of having a disorder causing excessive sleep needs". This video provides no evidence why a normal person would suffer from sleeping a large amount at all.

    I hate the continual stress of living. I'm glad I can sleep a lot especially now that I'm retired. There is more excitement in my dreams than my life, although having no dreams works fine for me too.
    I'm hoping I die in my sleep... soon. The sentiments of many, I'm sure.

    Vit B complex, B12, Ashwaganda, Ginseng, Maca, coffee help me. I also have taken small amounts of Nuvigil or Provigil as well which don't amp you up they make you super alert. I only take 1/4 of a tab. You will wake up and be productive but you need a dr prescription for it. I don't take all of these all at once of course. Upon awakening I take two tiny B12 sublinguals under my tongue which melt and dissolve in 1 min. They work quickly & I can usually wake up faster and get out of bed. I think we could have Sleeping Beauty disease.

    I dont agree with "experts." I don't believe it's right diagnosing an entire population of individual people with this and that and saying if you do this, you have that. Lebron James abd Rodger Federer sleep 10-12 hours a day. I sleep about 9. I feel great. There are a lot of stresses during the day and a lot of responsibilities I have to deal with. I happen to need around 9 hours some days to reset my body. I listen to my own body and not "experts" trying to make blanket statement when they don't know ME.
