    I was diagnosed with Atypical Major Depressive disorder and I've been sleeping over 14 hours a day the past 2 months. I try to fix it by setting alarms, but I feel deathly tired all day when I do this and even when I sleep over 12+ hours I still feel tired. This is such a tough condition to live with, and I'm hoping once I can get my depression under control that this will subside.

      I did the same thing around age 50 and now at 60 my body feels very weak. Still very depressed and yes I did it to make the time go by and still do.
      I live alone and am very isolated . Never talk on the phone and barely text
      I know this isnt normal and I feel bad and worry about it everyday . Everyone has their lives with friends interests activities.
      I know this is a very abnormal life. I really do not know how to undo this mess and try to create real connections. Not to mention healing my body on every level. Sleep, nutrition, exercise , social connection.

    I've been suffering from hypersomnia, insomnia, major depressive disorder, social anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress for most of my life and my recommendation to anyone suffering from these things should seek help as early as possible as it will get increasingly difficult as these conditions progress.
    There are also many things you can do yourself without medication that can improve most psychological conditions like meditation, physical exercise, and social interactions. Isolation can greatly worsen these conditions.
    EDIT: Some clarification is needed; I was never tested or officially diagnosed with a hypersomnia condition, I was merely told by a physician that it was possible that I had hypersomnia but it never reached a point where proper testing was done and diagnosis was considered, therefore it would be incorrect to phrase my above statement as if I've had hypersomnia when there isn't a diagnosis for it.

    • @Calibre-s3g
      @Calibre-s3g Год назад +1

      @@tailovesyou I think you should talk it over with a doctor who is a general practitioner in the field of medicine and then get referred to a specialist on what the first doctor think you may be suffering from. Psychologists can also help but the underlying causes for psychological problems (such as vitamin/mineral deficiencies) should be diagnosed and addressed first.
      TLDR; get a diagnosis and then start proper treatment.
      If done properly, you could be seeing huge improvements relatively quickly.

      @Calibre-s3g Год назад +1

      @@nalinijyotsanadas Totally missed your reply. In terms of hypersomnia, it was by far not the worst thing I had dealt with and I've heard some people with the condition can sleep for 8-10 days at a time and for me it was more for 24-36 hours at a time so it can be dealt with without too much trouble. I hope things improved for you and I know it can be hard but just have to stay persistent and keep fighting it and it will get easier down the road.

      How did you determine that the cause of your sleepiness was in fact caused by your depression?
      I can sleep for 8 hours and then when I am in the process of creating training material at my desk. Or, the most embarrassing and detrimental time to suddenly doze off, is when I am inspecting a co-workers completed assignment and I noticed a defect that will cause this item to be rejected. However, when I pause to describe the issue, my head gets heavy and I inadvertently do that nodding off scenario.

    My hypersomnia is not sudden, just the onset of a daytime drowsiness where I decide I need to go nap. 1 nap a day is nothing surprising for a 70 year old guy, but sometimes 2 or 3 naps is not uncommon. Yeah now try being 25 and having to take a nap every day or risk feeling so tired that its equivalent to being drugged with benadryl. I'm a very healthy 25 year old otherwise. I do martial arts and am outside all day every day. But for some fucking reason I have this bullshit to deal with almost every day. Ive even tried changing my diet. I got off of sertraline by myself and that was a huge mistake I had an extremely negative reaction to getting off of it and it took a couple months for me to get back to level headed im talking REALLY really bad panic attacks and for some reason it made me go into severe withdrawals from my kratom so I had to taper that down too (I take for ptsd). All in all im a fucking mess. I hope that Ill be able to get off of sertraline for good soon. This stuff is the worst shit ever and it sucks that I need it. I've been going on and off of sertraline for what feels like forever now. Sober life is way too difficult for me most of the time and for some reason I always end up going into some mental breakdown.

    • @50zezima
      @50zezima Год назад

      Crazy thing is for those panic attacks. I didnt realize until about a week that getting off of the sertraline somehow made me go into full withdrawals off my kratom. So I thought what were full blown withdrawals that I was just going mentally insane. I remember trying to meditate and 3 different nights I went into a state of hyper drive in anxiety in my brain. To the point where I literally started to mentally fade out of existence. Like the warm tingly excrutiatingly worried and dreadful feeling of anxiety. I had to go for walks at night with my partner because I literally felt like I was dying like I had taken a 1000mg edible or something. During the walk I felt like I was going to pass out and go into a coma and it felt like my last moments of life. I thought I had some really bad seretonin syndrom or something. So I was forced to go back on the medication after a couple nights of that. And only after that I realized I was in full blown withdrawal and knowing that made that not happen again, however it was still terrifying that my mind went to that dark and desperate a place. So thats a word of the wise for people trying to taper off of sertraline on your own, please dont do what I did, especially if you are taking another drug like kratom apparently. So Now im taking 4 grams of kratom a day and not going back up in fear of that happening again. and Im not tapering off the meds until im ready. But the hyperinsomia is awful

    Idk why a lot of people in the comments seem to think that severe sleepiness is caused by depression. Although it can be it’s likely not going to be to this extent for your entire life not being reactive with treatment.
    Please go get testing for sleep disorders and get tested further. It’s highly likely if you are suffering this greatly that you have something physically wrong.

    • @MedicalCentric
      @MedicalCentric  3 месяца назад

      @astralfluxaf You're absolutely right! While depression can contribute to sleepiness, if someone experiences severe, long-term sleepiness despite treatment, it's important to explore other possible causes, like sleep disorders such as sleep apnea or narcolepsy. Getting proper testing can help identify underlying physical issues and lead to more effective treatment. Ignoring persistent symptoms can prevent proper diagnosis, so seeking medical advice is essential!

    What's the difference between hypersomnia and narcolepsi?

    • @MeowMeowMeowX3333
      @MeowMeowMeowX3333 2 года назад +7

      Narcolepsy involves falling asleep suddenly and uncontrollably even when not tired, hypersomnias usually feel so tired they can't help but fall asleep but they're aware that they're falling asleep.

    Can anyone help ... I have never been a fan of sleeping .. and I had trouble in past during my childhood as far as i can remember when when i put myself in bed my mind would wonder for a long time ... during my late teens i slipped and injured my back which caused me further sever sleep issues .. it went for 19 years and during covid who whole backache issue got resolved (miraculously) .. I can now put myself in bed and within minutes i can go to sleep. I go to bed earl and walk up very early too. However my routine in morning is to read book but as soon as i will read within 10 mins I would get sleepy. Then I take a quick nap, like 15 mins to 45mins max and back on my desk. Again I get sleepy even tough I get fairly good sleep at night. During day I get sleepy time to time even if i am in a meeting or at computer etc. Also i get sleepy during driving but for that I will simply pull over and take a quick nap. I was very high on coffee so I have completely quit coffee. Also I don't drink alcohol or fizzy drinks. Diet is good as I now fast between 9am till 6pm . But still I get sleepy throughout the day from time to time. Often I take power naps. They can go between 2 to 4 times a day sometimes. Can anyone help why its happening and how can i solve this ... Luckily I am self employed working from home so I don't have to answer boss. When I am doing physical work I don't get that sleepy but if tired then I need a power nap. During indoor hours I hardly get tired but sleepy quite often. If anyone has come across this and solved it then please let me know too. I probably need to start with Omega and Vitamin D . Apart from that I cant see where the problem comes from .. Your input will be highly appreciated. Thanks

I consulted neurologist he prescribed me antidepressants but they helped me little bit and I didn't recover fully. Then I consulted pulmonologist he prescribed me SPSG and narcolepsy test. I got SPSG test but it was unsuccessful because I couldn't sleep whole night and I was unable to get test again because it's expensive. Then doctor suggested me BIPAP machine but It was very uncomfortable and I couldn't sleep then he prescribed me modafinil tablet but tablet is increasing my heartbeat. @howtr4748 I’m so sorry to hear about your father’s condition; it sounds very challenging for both him and your family. Post-surgery fatigue and excessive sleep can happen after a serious procedure like intracranial aneurysm surgery, as the body and brain need significant time to heal. It might help to consult his doctor about ways to manage his sleepiness and find strategies to support his medication and nutrition needs. You’re doing an amazing job caring for him-sending strength to you all during this difficult time. 💙

      @lafit9821 It sounds like you're dealing with a lot of heavy emotions, and sleeping to escape them is understandable but also concerning. Hypersomnia, especially when linked to feelings of wanting to withdraw from everyone, might be connected to depression or another mental health issue. It’s really important to talk to someone-a mental health professional, a trusted friend, or family member-who can support you in finding healthier ways to cope with these feelings. You don’t have to face this alone.

      Experiencing prolonged sleep, such as 16 hours in a single day, may be indicative of hypersomnia, a condition characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness. While occasional changes in sleep patterns are common, persistent hypersomnia could be related to various factors such as sleep disorders, depression, or other medical conditions. It's essential to pay attention to any accompanying symptoms, changes in mood, or ongoing issues with excessive sleep and consider consulting with a healthcare professional. They can help identify the underlying cause and recommend appropriate interventions or treatments based on a comprehensive assessment of your sleep patterns and overall health.

      It's fun being mentally confused and exhausted throughout the day and considered lazy by people because you're still tired even though you "sleep enough". The low appetite becomes a feedback loop - tired because undernourished; undernourished because too tired to properly take care of self. Body and brain starts to suffer worse. Tired again
