I tried it, and within a few days, I started feeling better when waking up. My overall feeling improved. Just avoid sugar, gluten, and oil. Here's what I eat in a day, along with exercise: Rice Egg Fish (cooked without oil) Vegetables Fruits (avoid very sweet fruits)

Idk why a lot of people in the comments seem to think that severe sleepiness is caused by depression. Although it can be it’s likely not going to be to this extent for your entire life not being reactive with treatment. Please go get testing for sleep disorders and get tested further. It’s highly likely if you are suffering this greatly that you have something physically wrong.
@astralfluxaf You're absolutely right! While depression can contribute to sleepiness, if someone experiences severe, long-term sleepiness despite treatment, it's important to explore other possible causes, like sleep disorders such as sleep apnea or narcolepsy. Getting proper testing can help identify underlying physical issues and lead to more effective treatment. Ignoring persistent symptoms can prevent proper diagnosis, so seeking medical advice is essential!

Can anyone help ... I have never been a fan of sleeping .. and I had trouble in past during my childhood as far as i can remember when when i put myself in bed my mind would wonder for a long time ... during my late teens i slipped and injured my back which caused me further sever sleep issues .. it went for 19 years and during covid who whole backache issue got resolved (miraculously) .. I can now put myself in bed and within minutes i can go to sleep. I go to bed earl and walk up very early too. However my routine in morning is to read book but as soon as i will read within 10 mins I would get sleepy. Then I take a quick nap, like 15 mins to 45mins max and back on my desk. Again I get sleepy even tough I get fairly good sleep at night. During day I get sleepy time to time even if i am in a meeting or at computer etc. Also i get sleepy during driving but for that I will simply pull over and take a quick nap. I was very high on coffee so I have completely quit coffee. Also I don't drink alcohol or fizzy drinks. Diet is good as I now fast between 9am till 6pm . But still I get sleepy throughout the day from time to time. Often I take power naps. They can go between 2 to 4 times a day sometimes. Can anyone help why its happening and how can i solve this ... Luckily I am self employed working from home so I don't have to answer boss. When I am doing physical work I don't get that sleepy but if tired then I need a power nap. During indoor hours I hardly get tired but sleepy quite often. If anyone has come across this and solved it then please let me know too. I probably need to start with Omega and Vitamin D . Apart from that I cant see where the problem comes from .. Your input will be highly appreciated. Thanks
It sounds like you may be experiencing excessive daytime sleepiness, which can be caused by various factors including sleep disorders, nutritional deficiencies, or lifestyle habits. Consulting with a healthcare professional for a thorough evaluation is advisable to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.
@amedeocristiano2026 I'm really sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way. Discovering an illness can be overwhelming, especially when you've experienced symptoms for so long. Waiting for a sleep study can be difficult, but it’s a crucial step toward understanding your condition better. In the meantime, try to reach out to supportive friends or family, and consider journaling your experiences to help cope with the frustration. You're not alone in this, and there are paths to feeling better once you get the proper diagnosis and treatment. Hang in there!

I have same issue since 4 years. I sleep for 12 13 hours but still feel sleepy whole day and also take a nap in the afternoon. I consulted neurologist he prescribed me antidepressants but they helped me little bit and I didn't recover fully. Then I consulted pulmonologist he prescribed me SPSG and narcolepsy test. I got SPSG test but it was unsuccessful because I couldn't sleep whole night and I was unable to get test again because it's expensive. Then doctor suggested me BIPAP machine but It was very uncomfortable and I couldn't sleep then he prescribed me modafinil tablet but tablet is increasing my heartbeat. Don't know how to cure this problem.
Given your persistent symptoms and unsuccessful treatments, I recommend consulting a sleep specialist for a comprehensive evaluation, possibly considering alternative testing methods or seeking a second opinion to explore other underlying causes and treatments.

@howtr4748 I’m so sorry to hear about your father’s condition; it sounds very challenging for both him and your family. Post-surgery fatigue and excessive sleep can happen after a serious procedure like intracranial aneurysm surgery, as the body and brain need significant time to heal. It might help to consult his doctor about ways to manage his sleepiness and find strategies to support his medication and nutrition needs. You’re doing an amazing job caring for him-sending strength to you all during this difficult time. 💙

@lafit9821 It sounds like you're dealing with a lot of heavy emotions, and sleeping to escape them is understandable but also concerning. Hypersomnia, especially when linked to feelings of wanting to withdraw from everyone, might be connected to depression or another mental health issue. It’s really important to talk to someone-a mental health professional, a trusted friend, or family member-who can support you in finding healthier ways to cope with these feelings. You don’t have to face this alone.
Hypersomnia, characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness or prolonged nighttime sleep, can severely impair daily functioning. This condition may cause difficulty concentrating, memory issues, and unusual behaviors, such as forgetting basic tasks like wearing shoes to work. It often requires medical evaluation to determine underlying causes and appropriate treatment. Please consult your health care professional

I'm sorry to hear that and that it's affecting your daily life. Please consult with a healthcare professional who can properly evaluate your symptoms and provide guidance tailored to your specific situation
@penoymovierecap8783 If you’re getting enough sleep at night but still feel sleepy during the day, it could be due to various factors like poor sleep quality, sleep disorders (such as sleep apnea), stress, diet, or even underlying health issues like anemia or thyroid problems. It’s worth evaluating your sleep habits and consulting a healthcare professional if this persistent sleepiness continues, as they can help pinpoint the cause and provide guidance.
@missv92 Feeling constantly tired due to hypersomnia is incredibly challenging. 😢 It's important to seek medical advice to explore potential treatments and lifestyle changes that can help you manage this condition better. You're not alone in this-there's hope for relief and more energy in your days ahead! 💪
Experiencing prolonged sleep, such as 16 hours in a single day, may be indicative of hypersomnia, a condition characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness. While occasional changes in sleep patterns are common, persistent hypersomnia could be related to various factors such as sleep disorders, depression, or other medical conditions. It's essential to pay attention to any accompanying symptoms, changes in mood, or ongoing issues with excessive sleep and consider consulting with a healthcare professional. They can help identify the underlying cause and recommend appropriate interventions or treatments based on a comprehensive assessment of your sleep patterns and overall health.
@nolongerhavetowork Hypersomnia, which involves excessive daytime sleepiness or prolonged nighttime sleep, can indeed be a symptom of depression. It’s often associated with low energy, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating, making it challenging for those affected to manage daily activities. Treating the underlying depression can help improve hypersomnia.
@stevenholt1867 You’re right; hypersomnia, characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness, can significantly impact cognitive functions, including memory, attention, and executive functions like planning and organization. This cognitive impairment can lead to difficulties in daily activities and decision-making, which may result in lost opportunities or challenges in managing responsibilities, including property and finances. If someone is experiencing hypersomnia, it’s important to seek professional help to address the underlying causes and explore treatment options, as managing sleep disorders can improve overall cognitive function and quality of life.

It's fun being mentally confused and exhausted throughout the day and considered lazy by people because you're still tired even though you "sleep enough". The low appetite becomes a feedback loop - tired because undernourished; undernourished because too tired to properly take care of self. Body and brain starts to suffer worse. Tired again

I just want to share something that might help. I suffered from hypersomnia for almost 6 years and couldn't find a solution to treat it. I read somewhere that avoiding sugar and gluten might help. I tried it, and within a few days, I started feeling better when waking up. My overall feeling improved. Just avoid sugar, gluten, and oil.

Fish (cooked without oil)
Vegetables
Fruits (avoid very sweet fruits)

Caffeine is a short term solution because it causes your brain to produce more sleepy chemicals to make up for the ones that the Caffeine blocked then you have to drink more Caffeine to block even more sleepy chemicals which causes you brain to make more
It's a cycle that will most definitely make you more tired in the long run

Well good luck in getting anything prescribed to help it, they wont give you anything unless you get narcolepsy which is different to hypersomnia.
That’s so true ..
I am actually so tired with my oversleeping
I used to be that type of person who needed only 4 to 5 hour of sleep and i was not taking a day nap
But now it is complete opposite i sleep for 8- 10 hours and i take a 2 to 3 long day naps ,
I am genuinely so scared my studies is getting badly effected, i feel tired entire day
It's essential to address changes in sleep patterns; consider consulting a healthcare professional to identify underlying causes and regain your energy. ❤️

What's the difference between hypersomnia and narcolepsi?
Narcolepsy involves falling asleep suddenly and uncontrollably even when not tired, hypersomnias usually feel so tired they can't help but fall asleep but they're aware that they're falling asleep.

I feel back pain and sleep i have vit 12 deficiency but I don't know is it reason or not but even after sleeping plenty of time i can't more than 1-2 hrs

I feel always sleepy even i sleep well at night and have enough sleep
@penoymovierecap8783 If you’re getting enough sleep at night but still feel sleepy during the day, it could be due to various factors like poor sleep quality, sleep disorders (such as sleep apnea), stress, diet, or even underlying health issues like anemia or thyroid problems. It’s worth evaluating your sleep habits and consulting a healthcare professional if this persistent sleepiness continues, as they can help pinpoint the cause and provide guidance.

I just slept like 16 hours the other day.
Orrrrr…getting a CPAP machine!
CPAP is mostly for sleep apnea

It’s of depression.
DEXADRINE
Hypersomnia can cause loss of memory which can cause loss of property. It can also affect forward planning.

Tired again
