    Thanks. I'll have to remember to pass that one up should it ever cross my path. lol... Speaking of a bad orchid scent; I have a Blc. Alma Kee 'Tipmalee" that had a burning wood smell a few days after it first opened and became stronger, thereafter. Kind of enjoyed it, though, since I fancy working with wood.. :) Your videos are wonderful and I'm so looking forward to when you relocate to Cyprus, and arrange all your plants in the completed greenhouse/shadehouse... :)

      +John Benedict ORCHIDS thanks John, hehe well I would prefer burning wood over this, it would remind me of childhood :) this reminds of villages lol yes I have so many plans for the greenhouse, it will still be a sort of indoor design ideas since it won't be all policarbonate so, it will need to be treated as a room :)

    Prostechea cochleata (on of this hybrid's parents) grows naturally in my area, I have a few of them - but none of the ones I've got has any scent. It's nice to see this species grown somewhere else! I'm sure it will grow beautifully in your care :D

      +William T. Pinkney thanks William, do you see any visible difference in flower shape from mine?

    • @williamt.pinkney9228
      @williamt.pinkney9228 9 лет назад

      +MissOrchidGirl Definitely. Just like you said, Prostechea's petals are longer and more curled :) Your info is very accurate! I think I learned more about this orchids!

    That is so funny about the fragrance, Danny!! I kind of like the smell of a barn from my childhood, but depending on the poop level it could be bad. XD The Encyclia fragrans might be nicer. I just got the Miltassia Shelob Tolkien today, and if it smells too peppery, it is going to be gone at the next orchid society meeting haha!! Boy I was bad at the store today. I fell to my knees and grabbed an armful of orchids and said "I don't have the strength not to buy these" lol!!

    • @MissOrchidGirl

      +Astrid lol waiting for the video on them ;) the shelob smells quite nice actually

    Hi Danny, beautiful orchid..disappointed to know about the fragrance.. BTW can you make a video describing how long does a psudobulb takes to mature in various orchids..

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      +Hemanandini Deori hi, well the rhythm at which psb mature on different orchids really depends on the species and season. If you click the info card on this video you'll see the ID section on my site, all orchids there have the specified time in which a psb can mature :)

      +MARIA DEL CARMEN ARCOS VAZQUEZ well if you keep it properly hydrated and ventilated it will help her cope with the hot temperatures better :)

    Thanks for sharing Dani. I have a question how do you keep the bulbs of this orchid so plump? They look so very healthy.

  • @guillermobustamante3053
    @guillermobustamante3053 9 лет назад

    my flower spike stopped growing in May and in July three new bulbs started to grow. summer is almost over I just started giving my little cutie some fertilizer with 19-8-16 in hopes to help it finish the bulbs. I generally don't give fertilizer because I forget. one the bulbs are mature should I switch to bloom booster? Thank you! love your channel and your reply's!

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      +Guillermo Bustamante yes it might help, or if you have a balanced fertilizer you can use that to sustain the new growths and a possible flower spike. It would have been nice if you did fertilize though, these guys do grow very fast and consume nutrients.

    • @guillermobustamante3053
      @guillermobustamante3053 9 лет назад

      MissOrchidGirl just a couple of days ago. Unfortunately i do not have a balanced fertilizer its just a sheath so far.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      +Guillermo Bustamante ooops forget the grow fast part lol I dunno why but I thought this was the catasetum video :) yes ok, bloom booster or balanced for this one now, the sheath can take a few months to start blooming ;)

    Is it normal for it to have those yellow blotches in the leaves?

    Interesting video as always. Very pretty flower & the smell won't bother me. I live in an agricultural state, so if the wind blows from one direction it smells like cows. Horse manure might be a nice change...lol

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      +Nancy Huffman ahahaha I think you won't detect it as much, it's not quite as repulsive as horse manure, but it does take you there :P

    I just purchased this! Okay, I ordered the Prosthechea cochleata, and it came with a label "Epidendrum lancifolium" plus is looks totally different than your plants lol, maybe i got a special orchid :D (By the way I made a video on it, I'll put a link here as soon as it will be online, and if you have the mood, you can watch it and tell me what you think :D)
    Oh and horse stable, really?? :D

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  9 лет назад

      +Zane Leroux Epi. lancifolium has been reclassified as Prostechea trulla and is one of the parents of the Green Hornet :) that is why I say that sometimes you can get very mixed labels cos flower wise they are very similar. However the trulla looks quite different from cochleata in my eyes. Search pics ;)
