Hello Rachel, I totally love your channel and how you have content for both the indoor and outdoor growers, but I must admit your ORCHID videos are always my favorites. Your blooms and what's in spike love awesome! xoxox

The fascination of orchids, when we repot we never know how it will end up. I prefer large specimen myself but we have to accept what they decide 😀. Lovely orchid blooms too. That little Paph is adorable ❤️😍

So true. We need to go with what the plant needs at the end of the day. I've actually come to the conclusion that there's no point in preparing a pot before the orchid roots can be inspected 😏

That's the reason why the bigbbum hybrid dendrobiums are used as lay flowers in Hawaii they can thread a needle through that nubin on the back of the bloom.😁
    Great video Rachel, thanks

Ah yes, den phals can also be great for lots of blooms. It's not one I have success with but I'm not in Hawaii. Thanks for watching and have a great Easter.

Thank you, Rachel 🙏. Very helpful info/ repotting on this great orchid. I always stress about choosing the right time to repot this🌱. I have three divisions in one pot . Big plant now and is blooming 🥰. Eventually will need to be repotted.
Would you recommend repotting before 🌱goes into flower or after blooming time?
Your advice would be much appreciated. Have a great Easter Sunday 🤗🌷🌸🐰🐣.

The best advice is to to repot when roots are in active growth so it's great if you can see that. Otherwise, I'm not sure it really matters with a cochleata.

What minimum temperature do you grow your phalaenopsis at?

Hi Tina. I keep my phals in the warmest room in the house. They have done so much better since I moved them a few years back. I suppose the kitchen doesn't drop below 16 although we were without the boiled for a few weeks this spring. Brrrr.

Very enjoyable and interesting repot. Years ago I had an encyclia that had a small growth habit and the same octopus type flowers but I lost it. (My mum threw it away!) I don't suppose you know the name of a type like that? 🙂

    Lovely post.
How do I get mine to bloom? Mine is under 70% black shade cloth. Is this a lighting problem? Had it for 3 years and just giving me loads of growths and no spikes. Though they produce sheaths...
Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
    Happy growing.

Are you talking about your cockleshell orchid? I grow mine on a South facing windowsill with no shade.

What are your phrags potted in, media-wise? And are they sitting in water? I just got gifted my first phrag (bessiae) in semi-hydro. Not sure it's doing so hot, thinking of repotting it.

    • @GardeningatDouentza
      @GardeningatDouentza  2 года назад +1

My phrags are potted in medium bark and, yes, I sit them in water the whole time. The more often you can change that water (rainwater), the better. I tend to be lazy and do it once a week. Bessiae is a great and reliable plant. Hope she does brilliantly for you. By the way, check out Ed's Orchids. He grows lots of phrags.
