I got my son an Kink Curb about 8 weeks ago. I would have killed for that bike as a kid. It is a fantastic bike for a kid just starting. But it is very easy to spot the quality differences. If he gets to the point where he's doing more than popping out of a bowl I will not hesitate to upgrade him. One 180 knocks the rear axle out of position. I do agree, the first thing a parent should do is new grips and new seat tube/seat. But really, major Props to Kink for making a really affordable terrific looking bike. Parents: please pay a little bit more, skip Walmart.
The rear axle is probably moving because of chipped paint under the bolts. I would remove and wipe down the frame and bolts and reattach pretty tight and it shouldnt move. Same thing if bars are moving is cuz of the paint chipping.
@@bmxsasa2145 I looked all over and finally found one at Inky's Bikes in California. I'm not kidding, I feel I got the last one in the country until the 2021 models are released.
I remember riding a 45 lbs bike with an American bb, non integrated headset, 7.5 bars, 180mm crank, triple wall rims, a 44t sprocket, 1.95 tires, and that was normal for the late 90s-early 00s, being an older rider I really appreciate how much less bikes weigh, lol
I got a haro zippo back in the day (twin top tubes in burnt satin orange) had the OG eyeball 44tooth. We upgraded it to the supra J's not the E's and some profile 48 spline 3 pc it was 46 pounds with 4 pegs and a 36t profile sprocket (imperial) and and the acs claws13t for the same gear ratio. I miss that bike but it was weak for its weight, broke the twin top tubes off the head tube. So we welded it back on.. I understand this shyte completely. I bought a WTP recently with pegs 26 pounds. now its 24, its reedic the differences now.
@@game-r-age7157 man I went through the re-discovery of my bmx days not even a week ago, HAD to find out how the old haro zippo's were going 97/98 with 8 ball sprocket. And discovered that the one I had as a kid was just plain custom from the moment I got it. It came to me in a metallic grey powdercoat, I didn't have the pegs, and it had 2 piece handlebar. The first thing to break on mine was the seat. Didn't even care, took a granny bike seat, raised it to the max because at 16 I was as tall as I'd get. I'd bent spokes... And I don't THINK I broke the frame... But the last I saw of that bike was after(??) a bad crash. Cleared the local 'skatepark's box, found concrete about twice the distance I needed... For some reason. Smashed face and subsequently teeth... And memory. But anyway. Finding a good condition haro zippo now?... The price... Oh my god the price... Don't even try. And then I come to look at more recent bike brands and coming from the haro back in the day to now. Man... The zippo came with a freecoaster, gyro, front brake routed through the fork stem. And cost a few hundred. These days these brands are selling you just the quality of the frame, forks and bars. F all else unless you wanna double the price. Oh.. in Australia that is. Great time to get back in to it... Not. Oh and that accident actually cost more money than my 'more recent' 2 crashes on motorbikes plus the price of my car. PSA: Teeth are fucking expensive. I am sorry and horribly grateful to my parents because I went to the dentist more times than most people's lifetimes over the 6 years after that and I'll be grateful if I never have too again!
VEXUS 1093 absolutely not. That’s not anything near the frame geo I want. And it didn’t come with a freecoaster out of the box. It had more wtp parts, but I’d still have swapped the sprocket, forks, and stem and theirs a good bit of those wtp parts off the bike. At this point I just need pedals, cranks, and a seat post and I’m done (until this frame fails in the future).
VEXUS 1093 it didn’t need all those replacements. I got them so when I’m ready to buy an aftermarket frame I already have the parts I want and I’m not sticking a bunch of complete bike parts on an aftermarket frame.
Even though I don't need a lesson, I like hearing you explain things, also I might learn something. Hi Alfredo, thanks again for helping me understand the questions that I had. I am working on the barspin, and just keeping myself pushing forward. Tonight I am going for a ride to hunt out some more riding areas. Thanks again Dude, I look forward to more of your videos. Been riding for over a decade and this was still a great watch..I started on a kink curb way back.😂😭.. it’s disappointing to see the curb still offers American BB, but of course price point always reflects the product... a comparison of a high end custom build from a decade ago into comparison with a modern custom build would be a Dope video too!
i am getting into bmx for the first time ever. I have no money. I bought a diamond back for $120 in the end. I had my eye on a haro for $250, but didn't have the $$$
I bought a curb to see if I would eeven be good an so far I’m doing great I’m thinking about going to a shop in Chicago and balling out on a good build
I had a "mid level" bike years ago as an affordable option to see if returning to BMX wasn't a spur of the moment type thing. For lite duty skatepark riding, it wasn't bad. But I got worried about it's overall durability so ended up selling it and building up a bike with stronger parts. I think those bikes are a good option for new riders, but wouldn't recommend to any experienced rider that the bike will take some abuse.
I started off with a used £50 bike I got off gumtree. I once crashed it into a pole and bent the fork right into the frame. That was a high-ten fork. I still have the frame and rear wheel but it was a hi-ten build with a 42 tooth front sprocket and 15 or 17 back. It had a cassette hub, front-loader clamp and the same style axle as the cheap build shown here. I replaced the forks with Federal Assaults which I still use to this day on a new bike I finally finished off a few months ago now. I did ride that old bike for many miles and eventually I started to pretty much melt the hexagonal axle on the cranks to a cylinder and the pedals would fall off, even with a retention bolt, after a few pedal presses. The rims were awful, unsealed and untrued. It had brakes that pretty much never worked because even after truing the wheels, they would be tacoing again soon enough. But even though it was a heavy bike with no reliability for a harsh fall, it still kept going right to the end and it gave me something to practice BMX on in a way I could at the time. I still have the picture of that thing cruisered to fuck after that crash and I'll always keep it but... I'm very glad I spent the money I did to get a complete custom build. My new BMX build is a Federal DLX 21.5" frame, the last the shop had in the beautiful matte black with Federal Stance XL rims either side keeping the Stance V2 forks but replacing the old caged bearings with integrated ones, much smoother. I use a top load Salt BMX clamp and Cult (fittingly) Cuatro bars. The cranks, Federal Vice 175mm with Federal Command pedals on them. A 25 tooth Federal AMG on the front and 9 tooth motion freecoaster hub, I think a Federal stance on the front. A lot of the bits are Federal because I like the look of their stuff and it's always been awesome stuff. Anyway, my point is, your first bike is always pretty special but it's almost always shit. When you eventually upgrade you find out just how shit it was. There's loads of awesome bits out there and I think BMX is kinda getting to a point where it's pretty much all standard, not true for a lot of the other kinds of bikes like MTB or road bikes. The cost for quality parts is quite big but BMX bikes tend to just not stop. These small differences in the parts I listed seem small to someone who isn't riding them but they do eventually make a big difference in the ways you use or maintain your bike. It took me almost 3 years to build this bike and I'm pretty sure it'll outlast me.

When getting a BMX bike if your going for a complete go for $450 and up cuz they will usually come with integrated headset and sealed BB and sealed hubs and maybe double wall rims and all chromoly I had a cheap diamondback viper which I started on then I was looking at going to a cult or a fit but I went to a custom because I found a good deal on a frame and it had a short chain stay and a steep head tube so yea I mostly was on a budget and I went rant parts but I had a salt sprocket
Remember my kink curb lasted like 2 days and I snapped the bars dropping in these bikes aren’t meant to do anything other than be ridden by someone who will more than likely not even know how to hop yet. But that was in like 2010 maybe so I hope the quality has upped since then because I know it was more than a 300$ bike from 3 ride back then.
My first bmx bike was a 2015 kink curb, I bought it used for $50 and it was so messed up, the left bar was bent down a lot, the rear rim had tons of huge dents, the chain was loose and I couldn’t tighten it because the back but was rusted I place, the bottom bracket was so loose it would shake around and the chain would make popping and snapping sounds with literally every pedal stroke and it has tons of other damaged parts. I rode it for 7 months in rain, snow, and sun shine while doing bunny hops and 90’s (couldn’t 180 yet) eventually the super rusted chain broke on one side, I kept riding it for weeks until it surly got slayer hard to pedal and then the chain just snapped. I sold it for $30 for all the parts. I loved that thing.
Hey Alfredo - it'd be really cool if you could weigh both bikes and post their weights. maybe take the pegs off yours first. One of the definite advantages of spending more is strength, but it'd be really interesting to know how much weight you can save, and maybe explain where the most weight is lost (or even gained). Thanks!
My 2005 Fit Edwin De La Rosa complete is still riding strong today. Cost me about $450 and everything is stock except the seat, I changed it right away, im6old school so I like bigger cushioned seats. I love bmx but I don't think I would ever pay more than a thousand bucks for a bike. Completes nowadays are pretty solid bikes.
even the tech that comes into bikes be it entry or top tier have gone far. would love to compare a 300-400 modern complete versus a late to mid-90s custom build.
Hey Alfredo! I have the 2019 cult gateway for around 2-3 months. Ive been riding hard feebles double pegs, big drops and getting super close to 180s. I’m really motivated and I wanna know when when should I make a custom.
I remember when i used to ride with those legendary 40T sprockets and one piece cranks great for riding dirt coz you need all the speed you can get 😂 but man them bikes back then was heavy af 😑🤣
Hey Alf love the videos. What size frame would you recommend for someone 6'1" 175 lbs? Everyone says 21" TT but I would like to hear what your recommendation is. If you could include all the measurements, stand over, BB hight, TT length, chain stay length. etc.... Thanks! Going to ride park and street some dirt. A little more stable than twitchy.
I bought a Subrosa Tiro white looks like the one you have, installed a Shadow Gyro with Rant Cables. What other Subrosa you recommend to buy with better quality frame and parts? Thanks!!!!
I have a 2016 WTP Crysys it was $550 at the time complete out the box, it has all saltplus and salt aftermarket parts the bars are Merrell and rims are eclat... it's a good bike I considered it a mid level price I'm still relearning and Improving my skills as a rider... I just bought a WTP network frame and E440 eclat rims and am currently working on my "Galvatron" custom, the price is close to $1,900 after everything is said and done 😁😁😁, I can't let my Girlfriend know that though 😛😛😛 but I love this life #BMX
Got this exact bike the beginning of last summer, the bike was great and all but I realized it was too small, at a 20" top tube I was crammed. I bought a used 20.5 " top tube frame and everything was cool. Until the rear hub exploded on me. Don't cheap out, buy something nice
My last bike was stolen along with a lot of my other stuff… on Christmas Day! I’d love another bike but can’t even afford an entry level bike right now. FML.
I was wondering if u can do a video about stolen bike brand. If not i understand but i really curious why you dont like there was there drama. I thought i heard u and nate mention them bit not in a positive light definately build more bikes with phu looking to learn more tips and tricks
Without being a trick rider, I automatically would prefer the bike on the right because it looks better, and appears to be more of a sturdy platform to my untrained eye. I'm just an 80's baby that grew up in the era of the trippy looking GT, Haro, Hutch, Dyno, Mongoose, plus the other brands you learned to never leave laying around. At 40, I still prefer my 20/21 inch GT over my fixie. In total, I'm in about $1,200 on my bike. It came a bit scantily clad, and needed some extras added to make it look like what I'm used to from back in the day.
Yo Alf, I started to restore a old free agent BMX it’s not the best but I love riding it for now, it’s a coaster and has 16t driver - would it be less discouraging to ride if I switched out my tires and wheels to a 9t? and what would you suggest for a sprocket ratio
@@AlfredoMancuso it was actually a 13t driver, I’ve ordered a new BB, crank, wheels tubes and tires. Going to upgrade the frame when I’m more advanced - New rider at 28 years old love your channel bro
We didn't have Chinese parts when I started in 72 everything was USA built that's why bikes were expensive. If you could go out on a limb then you had Campagnolo 180 mm cranks, before Redline had flight cranks.
Im 5'9 and i have the 2021 curb do you think its too small for me bcuz everyone says that and its also kind of hard to do a bunny hop, but im getting their?
Buying my kids bikes now. They strictly ride these large S.E. bikes right now & typically just wheelie & do combos. But I can see the typical freestyle bmx biking creeping into their riding styles. (But dont tell them that🤣) Their surfing, bar sitting & starting to try front wheel wheelies. I feel like gyros will be back like asap & as soon as any bunny-hop type tricks get poping again, their all going to want to drop the weight of these big, heavy 27" & 29" wide tire bikes. Which will bring them all the way back exactly to... what..? Not an ultra light freestyle 20" BMX like their Pop rode back in the day?🤔 No way! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
In their defense... they do need to feel like whatever their doing "is theirs" and not done by the generation b4 them. And doing a wheelie while swerving 2 inches away from their best friends nose, then posting it on the internet.... that's definitely all theirs 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks alot Alferdo. I am just getting back into riding its been 10 years so alot has changed. Can you suggest any types of BMX around the $400 to $600 range? Also looking to get my nephew into it $200 to $300 range for hin starting out. Thanks again keep up with videos bro.
I hear as long as you have a FULL chromoly frame and all sealed bearings +integrated headset you should have he basic good parts that will hold up, I like the kink whip and it's $449. other things migh break but I think it might be worth a try unless you're gonna abuse the shit out of it, but even then you can replace some of the cheaper parts when they break. don't take my word on it tho, check some forums and ask around. I like vitalbmx for questions about stuff
hey, my bike has intergrated headset, sealed bearings, double wall rims, welded gussets, and a pretty decent chain tbh, it hitensile btw. only cost £225 from collective bikes (not an ad)
Hey Alf, does health insurance in the US cost more if you're a pro rider? Also, how much % does a pro get per signature frame (product) sold? Much love from the UK!
I'd imagine so for the health insurance. I think pro racers and things like that have to pay more. You'd basically be a stuntman. RE %, there's usually deals and stuff struck on that kinda stuff so it would depend how well you contribute to a brand.
My bikes a restoration bike spent 800 pesos for my resrorarion which took 8 months to complete because bmx parts here at my home town is hard to find people here only like mountain bikes so im the firsst gen. To be a bmx rider at my home town

1996 K.H.E Catweasle was my dream bike
No longer around anymore
Dear Alfredo, nice picture and cool bikes
Thank you :)
Couldn’t agree with you more!💯💜
I have a haro boulevard 2019 on sell for 300 and it's holding up really well so far it needs higher handlebars
That’s rad!
@@AlfredoMancuso Love your videos man they are very informative keep it up
Means a lot! Thanks for taking the time to let me know 💜🙏🏻
Classic af brand. I didn't even know they were still going.
Just picked up a Subrosa malum. Good mid level starter bike! Lots of decent parts.
Stoked for you!!
Your riding was far more advanced than the bike could handle
I'm still riding an old school bmx tho ;/ and the sprocket is 44t lol. i hope i can buy new bmx bike soon. 🙏🏻
Nothing wrong with that!
Stick with old school, more attractive bikes than the boring new school
Hey Alfredo - it'd be really cool if you could weigh both bikes and post their weights. maybe take the pegs off yours first. One of the definite advantages of spending more is strength, but it'd be really interesting to know how much weight you can save, and maybe explain where the most weight is lost (or even gained). Thanks!
I’m actually doing a video based solely off weight! :)
The bike on the right also has a Gyro system🤩👍! A BMX without a Gyro is as dull as it gets
even the tech that comes into bikes be it entry or top tier have gone far. would love to compare a 300-400 modern complete versus a late to mid-90s custom build.
There’s no comparison! Haha
In 87 u could buy a chromoly bike, ie Haro, GT for $350. Now its $700
Facts
Hey Alfredo! I have the 2019 cult gateway for around 2-3 months. Ive been riding hard feebles double pegs, big drops and getting super close to 180s. I’m really motivated and I wanna know when when should I make a custom.
Peep the 2020 Alec Siemon Sunday. That bikes pretty. Just copped it btw
Shmalec is my favorite human
I live a block away from that park, crazy coincidence
No way!!
i got a kink curb but it’s really like 300
It's 459.99 in canada god damn american dollar
I got a 2018 kink whip se and I love it
✊🏼😊
@@AlfredoMancuso im getting a wethepeople justice as my first bike in 10 years im 28 is that a good choice or im too old give up
Note 5 .20 minutes you can bend back the sprocket with a half inch extension 10 inch from husky worked fine for me
Really nice video keep up the work man also to a bike aeries when you use entry level bike to do tricks and review them or something like that
I remember when i used to ride with those legendary 40T sprockets and one piece cranks great for riding dirt coz you need all the speed you can get 😂 but man them bikes back then was heavy af 😑🤣
Those bikes made us hardened warriors 💪🏼💪🏼
@@AlfredoMancuso Yeah! Those bikes are gym on wheels 😂 them pedals back then made my shin rock hard LOL
My old bike i rode last year had a 48T sprocket and switching to 25T was a strange feeling for sure
@@dabington yeah i kinda had on the first day lol
I thank them bikes for my back and knee/shin damage. Mmmm the metal pedals
Yo I have an old haro that has a 44 tooth sprocket. I got it at a pawn shop and had it for 10 years now
Hey Alf love the videos.
My 94 GT Mach One I got as a kid is hands down the best ;) It's vintage now and still bad A$$
Which brand is good actually for entry leved/mid level...i wanna buy 1 ...but not the expensive one
Subrosa Brand makes solid stuff
Alfredo Mancuso subrosa haro or kink?
What can you say about the complete WTP Envy or the complete Cult Devotion?
Cult devotion features many more higher quality parts than an entry level bike. I'd say it's one of the best bikes if you're around 6 foot
I’d go with a Devotion!
Which pedals are you running on your custom?
I ride a $1800 custom bmx.. Awesome ride an set up Aflredo
Thanks man! Glad you were able to build a sick one!
I love your videos it makes me happy😊
💜😊
I bought a Subrosa Tiro white looks like the one you have, installed a Shadow Gyro with Rant Cables.
What other Subrosa you recommend to buy with better quality frame and parts?
Thanks!!!!
i have a old fit bike are those good bikes
What do you think of subrosa salvador? Freecoaster
👍🏻👍🏻
i haven't had a bike since my huffy got stolen when i was like 10-11 im now 27 have a harley....but its time for a new bmx lol
Same bro. I've always been a skateboarder but got into motorcycles and want a bike now.
FML.
Bro I have the kink curb and retail it’s 300 dollars just don’t little things
I was wondering if u can do a video about stolen bike brand. If not i understand but i really curious why you dont like there was there drama. I thought i heard u and nate mention them bit not in a positive light definately build more bikes with phu looking to learn more tips and tricks
They’re a crappy brand, bad product, and they don’t support their riders or BMX
@@AlfredoMancuso thanks good to know
Very Good Video Al
Without being a trick rider, I automatically would prefer the bike on the right because it looks better, and appears to be more of a sturdy platform to my untrained eye. I'm just an 80's baby that grew up in the era of the trippy looking GT, Haro, Hutch, Dyno, Mongoose, plus the other brands you learned to never leave laying around. At 40, I still prefer my 20/21 inch GT over my fixie. In total, I'm in about $1,200 on my bike. It came a bit scantily clad, and needed some extras added to make it look like what I'm used to from back in the day.
@COSMO 🤓👍BIINGOOOW!
Yo Alf,
I started to restore a old free agent BMX it’s not the best but I love riding it for now, it’s a coaster and has 16t driver - would it be less discouraging to ride if I switched out my tires and wheels to a 9t? and what would you suggest for a sprocket ratio
Crank replacement is next after that, love the channel thanks for all the help and good vids
I would recommend, if possible to get a 25 tooth to match the 9 tooth driver
It’s actually a 13t driver but still not my feel, ordered new wheels, BB, sprocket & cranks stoked
@@mxkexd7969 36:13, 33:12, 30:11, 27:10, 25:9 :)
@@AlfredoMancuso it was actually a 13t driver, I’ve ordered a new BB, crank, wheels tubes and tires. Going to upgrade the frame when I’m more advanced - New rider at 28 years old love your channel bro
I love watching all of these videos I would just be thankful to have a bicycle
I like how u mix it up with the like button discription
Hahaha gotta keep things fresh!
So subrosa complete over kink complete at the same price? Bout 450$
Is a custom built more lighter than a complete BMX bike
Sometimes not so much lighter, but definitely a lot stronger, and offers better customization to accommodate your riding
@@AlfredoMancusomy bike is hard to do tricks on if it was a little lighter I could probably do some tricks
True
We didn't have Chinese parts when I started in 72 everything was USA built that's why bikes were expensive. If you could go out on a limb then you had Campagnolo 180 mm cranks, before Redline had flight cranks.
Im 5'9 and i have the 2021 curb do you think its too small for me bcuz everyone says that and its also kind of hard to do a bunny hop, but im getting their?
I bought a kink bmx for $600 I would like to know if that is a decent amount for a good bike
Yes, if that was the retail place from a reputable shop
@@AlfredoMancuso I bought it of LUXBMX
Thank you nice video and a 200$ bike is good when you dont ride a lot
I highly suggest kink gap its the best bike u can buy
He said nomanclature...fredos the man
How much does each bike weight?
My first bmx is my wethepeople arcade which I managed to get for £100 nearly new on eBay I still ride today
Damn thats sick 🔥
whats the difference from those 2 bikes the prices
hey, my bike has intergrated headset, sealed bearings, double wall rims, welded gussets, and a pretty decent chain tbh, it hitensile btw. only cost £225 from collective bikes (not an ad)
Hi Tensile 🤡
And? I’m a child it isn’t going to break
Great video wish this was out when I started.
I made this for that same reason!
I have a bike like that but it was 450 and red marble
Like mine? You got a steal then!
What’s the link to the kink bike?
My bikes a restoration bike spent 800 pesos for my resrorarion which took 8 months to complete because bmx parts here at my home town is hard to find people here only like mountain bikes so im the firsst gen. To be a bmx rider at my home town
Do you know any pegs I should get I’m barely getting into bmx! If so thank you!
U should buy rant ll cool pegs. It is plastic pegs 👍🏻
My hometown skatepark. Haven't seen it in years. Clicked on for that reason lol
It’s a rad place 🤘🏼
What pressure U ride
70-85PSI
Great video
What is the weight comp. ?
(Minus 4 pegs of course)
I would love to weld my own bike
But ill ride with that time 4 now.
Btw, a bike factory or welding video is a no brainer!
They’re honestly about the same weight but the pro model is light years more durable and with more gadgets haha
im going to get the fit str 2020 bmx bike.Any thoughts on this bike?please answer
Sick bike 🔥
What’s different most obvious difference is the color
Nice video my dude 🤘👍
The bikes match the bench, your shirt matches the tape on the table and your shoes match the bikes.
You see what I did there haha
im getting a 330$ bike for my birthday will it be good or bad quaility?
its not a 200$ bike but
Just bought a after market frame and a frame kit from danscomp. Met myself in the middle
I’m curious, how do these bikes compare to a mongoose or diamondback from the early 80s?
Big differences
I'm still choosing the color of the BMX...purple?... nop black ? white???
