I love what you guys do. My 3 boys wait for me too get off work so we can watch your videos together!!! I love how much my boys learn from you and you channel. keep doing what your doing man!!!
It also gives you the opportunity to ride, right? It's pretty awesome to hear our children are taking a liking to BMX, so we can enjoy their riding in the future... 😉
I bought my first ever BMX from you guys a couple years ago. It was a Fit complete for around $450 I think. Been slowly upgrading it but you guys motivated me to start riding bmx. Thanks for the bike and all the great videos!
The modern cro mo three piece cranks that come as standard on most mid to high end completes are pretty damn good , back in the early 90s a crank set like we see today would have been considered a pro level item , and would have cost over £120.00
My first bike was made from a frame me and my buddies got and we built it up with spare parts! Now I just got back into riding after taking a break for 10 years… I may have went all out and got a built s&m around 1500-$2000 bike. I love it. Nothing like I’ve ever ridden it’s insanely light definitely made me get back on the saddle. Love you guys keep going! You were the first channel I subbed to. 15 years ago when you guys started. ❤❤ thanks for always releasing wholesome down to earth videos.
When I rode flatland years ago, whenever I did backward peg decades on my 88 Haro Master my left foot always touched the ground after I went over the head tube instead of landing on the back peg. I had been trying for 6 months to pull it without touching without success. A friend of mine got a brand new 92 Master which had been redesigned, and from the very first time I did the trick on his bike my foot would land on the back peg. I realized right then how much difference a bike can make! Congrats to whoever ends up getting the free bike. Edit: Years later I had Trend Bike Source build a custom Morales Pro Flat that cost $1300. I absolutely hated it bc the geometry made pulling links I had totally dialed for years nearly impossible. If at all possible I suggest test riding a bike before you buy it, or at least ask other riders that have one what their opinion of the bike is. Just because it's the most expensive doesn't mean it's the best!!!
I’m 51 years old, in the 80’s my best friend was sponsored by SE and we rode our bikes everywhere everyday, I had a mongoose that got stolen, saved up got a GT, damned if that didn’t get ripped. pitfalls of living in Detroit, ended up with a Redline I had for a few years got older sold it, but I still love BMX and freestyle, I tune in to these videos to see what’s new now. my GT cost me 599.00 in 86, which I thought was crazy expensive. my buddy got his free he was sponsored, we would race Waterford a lot, he even raced at the Pontiac silver dome a few times. good to see young dudes still rippin and runnin. 👍🏻
I started riding in the early 90s and started working at a shop in the early 00s and got my first bike for $189, it was a Huffy Supercharger race bike that I decked out w/ all Primo parts and Sun BFR rims and it road great, just different geometry from street bikes which helped my bunny hops.... Later I went to an old DK frame then after that I got an Eastern Dragon 3 w/ some Eastern cranks, Eastern Slim Forks and Stolen Cell Bars and I still ride it now. I'd like to get some new wheels but I can't get hubs in 48h anymore so I'd have to change to 36h rims and hubs... But then I could also get a freecoaster to try out but I think I'd prefer cassette because I like the pedal pressure feeling, or I'm just old. 😂
Back when I was a decent rider, I always rode beat up, undialed bikes, some with lots of used parts. Did some really good riding on basically trash. I've seen dudes shred some really garbage bikes. Having a proper dialed bike with reliable parts helps, but it's not a true requirement. Ride what you've got, and don't worry about who says what about it. Rise above and show em all what's up. Obviously, the more you pay, typically, will get you a stronger full 4130 frame, fork, and bars, and a higher quality parts package. All beneficial when you've taken your riding past the beginner stages. Nathan Williams, for example, would destroy the wheels and snap a frame that is Tri-moly with a cheap parts package. Buy what you can afford that suits your level of riding. The rider makes the rider, not the bike makes the rider. Remember that, and you'll be good.
sc is the best. when I ordered my bike as a Xmas present for myself, I called got to talk to BK to set it up left side drive, it only took one phone call to someone who was on vacation to get it done. I still wish I would have had him sign it. so if you want or need a bike don't be afraid to call SC bicycles and ask them for what you want, they will accommodate you and are very helpful.
My favorite bike back in the day was a traded frame. Pretty sure it was a DK, had layers and layers of spray paint on it, and pieced together parts. Kink 3 piece, their super thick sprocket and chain, primo head set and Moe bars, decent triple wall rims and tires, mostly out of junk/part bins of my buddies. I maybe had $100 in it all and rode the ever living mess out of it. A expensive bike might last a little longer than a cheap one, but it's more the rider and style that says how long it'll last. I picked up a Eastern Ace of Spades and literally destroyed it within a year of "recovery" riding and it was $900 out the door
My 2 boys are now riding with Daddy at the ages of 8 and 11 and they are progressing fast just as I did.I hope I can keep them into bmx because I love it!!!
I still ride my Fitbikeco COmplete Series one 2019 before the stuff happened. I am 50 :) Only thing i have done is added pegs and Cut bars down a little. Completes are Great to start out. :)
My first bmx was a Mongoose Villain for $350 and it is nothing compared to this entry level Kink. Granted theres a 25+ year difference but still. I'd be stoked to start all over today as a young kid with one of these Kink completes!
I like to spread my money about to different bmx online stores. I purchase from you guys and was very happy of my Scotty handle bars. I also, called once for Cinema Projector stem. Afterwards, I realized I talked to Matty on the phone. You guys are great. Thank you sirs!
I always had hand me down parts and bikes. RARELY were things brand new. I had backflips, a 720, and tailwhips under my belt, all learned on a given bike. Everything rattled, but it never stopped me.
BMX truely has come a long way, I still remember my GT Dyno, followed by a Huffy One Ton. The bikes that are on the market at the same price range these days are marvels of engineering... :)
Complete bikes are so good now a days. I went from a custom BMX bike to a complete Kink and I rode that thing into the ground for over two years. I'm still using the front tire, cranks, and handlebars after I bought some new stuff. The frame/rear wheel/forks are still sitting perfectly fine in my basement.
It's never too late! There's a lot of older folks who ride and can shred! A few years back, I decided I wanted to get into bmx flatland .. and I ended up finding this channel and was totally hooked! I don't ride as much as I'd like because of work and southeast texas just gets too fricken hot to ride. But that's just an excuse. I'm only 37 ( turning 38 at the end of the month ) and I wish I would've gotten started when I was younger. But yeah, I feel it's never too late to get into a hobby. Being older, it just takes a while longer to recover. But being athletic like you mentioned, I think you'll do well. I spend $450ish on a complete 20" bike, full chromoly frame, forks etc., all that you need. I upgraded some parts along the way, now I have 3 fully built bikes lol. Ugh, I just need to get my ass outside and ride! Good luck!
@Tom R - 52yr here Tom! I ride a ton. So much fun. No reason anyone should stop riding unless not physically able. I’m still improving too which keeps me motivated.
I paid upwards of $1100 for your custom Tall Order bike a couple months ago (video of the bike on my RUclips channel 👍😎). It does have LOTS of upgrades on it, but was OK with the price regardless because I wanted to support your store. Thank you for a great bike!!
That's such a cool trick. I haven't been riding much due to the flu but I went for my first ride in 6 weeks on Sunday and felt great, was really enjoying jumping speed humps (still my favourite thing since I first learnt to jump. It's like an invitation to jump, a perfect little jump in the middle of the road. 😜) then my back went out on me on Monday morning and sadly will have to wait a few days for that to get better to ride again. Speaking of complete bikes, my Division Brookside 20 incher has been holding up a treat. Super strong and it has to be, I weigh 126kg (2.2 pounds per kilogram if you want to do the maths) but I love that bike. It practically lives in my car during the week so I can ride it after work. It's actually improved my skills on my bigger bikes. Now I am 47 years old and doubt I will be doing anything as huge as Matty but it's really impressed me that Division. So I agree with Scotty, those complete bikes are really great for introductions to BMX or coming back to it.
I recommend spending what fits in your budget. Keep in mind though, that it's generally better to spend a little more money on quality parts that will last than cheap ones that you have to replace often.
Start with a budget and only upgrade what breaks. No point spending more on something like cranks if you're just starting out Unless they break. Also my biggest advice i can give regardless of budget or skill level is to aim for double walled rims
That's exactly what I did. I started with my Stranger complete (because it had full sealed bearings all around, double walled rims, and was what I could afford). I've changed the pedals, grips, tires, added pegs, and also swapped out the rear wheel for a freecoaster. I don't ride a ton, and I'm still learning stuff, but it's actually a solid bike for me. Would I like to build up a $1500+ bike? Sure. Do I need it? No.
@@rhyshutchin5 I agree with this completely I've been riding bmx for 12 years now started with a gt fly as my first bike age 13. Rode that for a few years until I needed something larger frame wise so I got a 2013 wethepeople zodiac complete. Only thing I upgraded was a longer frame after a few years as I outgrew the zodiak frame and replaced parts as they broke. Had that same bike for for the last 9 years still going strong other than a set of bars and forks which I broke.
I really would not recommend it. I switched my bars out to some ones off of a complete and they bent in one session. If you are doing anything with grinds or spins you will bend and snap things. I would recommend looking localy for 2nd hand bikes on ebay
Hi Scotty I am a huge fan of the whole crew and I was watching every video of you guys even when I was in the hospital because I got sick for 6 months and watching you kept me motivated to keep pushing myself to work harder and not give up on my recovery♥️♥️😃😃
When i was growin up in the 90s we had those complete haros, mongoose, an inthink Dinos? My favorite companys were Fit, KINK, an Snafu... Its crazy how far complete bikes have come these days... 3 piece cranks use to be expensive as hell now they come on completes.. kids these days have a good starting point !!
I had to sell my bmx and mtb a few years back, I’ve managed to get a full sus and a hardtail back in my ownership but really been struggling to save up for a bmx, I plan to get a bottom to mid range bmx, our local skatepark closed down 5-6 years ago so I’ll only be riding street or some dirt jumps but I need to get a bmx back
Ok well let me tweak my previous comment. It was made literally 1 sec in. The quality of bikes you have at your shop is a lot different then what I was thinking. I meant like CHEAAAPPPP bikes. Either way I’m almost to the point at my age( which I’ve stated in previous videos) where I’m considering building another bike. Watching the videos y’all make gets me pumped. I’m ready to come up there and ride with y’all. I wasn’t ever on a pro level but was still a good street rider. Maybe I should get in shape and Matt and I should go head to head on the street, but you calling all shots. I absolutely loved yesterday’s videos where Matt and Vinny were recreating your game of bike against Cory from back in the day. I can’t lie you inspired me a lot when I was young and now watching Matt progress has me pumped, wanting to come out of retirement lol.
My first bike that got me into BMX was an Iron Horse Delinquent. The bike was extremely heavy, but I cut my teeth on it. I remember my buddy got a Fit bike, and left me ride it. It was a world of difference, and I ended up buying myself a Kink that next year. My son is still riding my Kink, and I'm teaching him some tricks now
love your videos been watching since 2014/16 love you matty and cramner fam your a hero that kept me grinding and keep pushing past my limits you came back from a 20-/80% chance of ever walking or moving brings a tear to me to see you bounce back watched your story your strength and the way you are able to ride your bike keep up with fans and still shoot content big respect to matty since you destroyed him in a game of bike. loe you matty both sogood
I love what you guys do but i just never thought to subscribe and my older brother watches you guys all the time he said it would be so cool if he could meet you it would mean the world to him
Been thinking of returning to riding bmx since breaking my back in a motocross crash. Waiting for my final surgery to remove the metalwork. Would be one hell of a motivator to get back after serious surgery if that bike was waiting for me in my garage! Haha. Love the videos scotty much love ✌️
a noooice explanation of tire setups, like size of the tire what they suited or best for and pressures for the types of obstacles i think tires is the most under rates part of the bike which is the main part the separates the riding from the ground
Dude so freakin cool Scott! I'd kill for that bike. 32 yr old Out of shape truck driver that's been wanting to get back into bmx, unfortunately bankruptcy got my finances in the bucket. Always wanted a kin frame since I had a dk six pack lol
Back in the 90s I bought ever piece separate from Albes. Don't think they even make any of that stuff now. S+M Dirt bike, ELF blast bars, Profile 3pc crank, Peregrine SP48s, oyddesy bear trap pedals and red Primo V Monster tires. It was like $1500 for all that, plus the seat and grips etc. Ah the good ole days
From my experience with action sports, cheaper gear makes you work harder to do tricks. Which is a good thing, because once you get good gear that makes tricks easier to do you'll be a much better rider
I’m not sure if you chose Simone for the five away but I’m still gonna say this. Just a couple days ago I was riding my elite bmx bike and hit a pothole and I fractured my wrist in the process also my bmx the frame snapped 😞 i love going to the skatepark and making videos of me on my bike so I can figure out what I’m doing wrong and I can’t anymore so ye
I wish I had known I could’ve had you guys autograph my bike when I purchased it a couple of years back. I still have your shop sticker on there but now I really want the the autograph! I hope to meet both of you one day. Love your videos Scott and Matty!
I remember having the most basic Haro Backtrail and beating the piss out of it. The guy that used to always be on the trails would take any bike and hit the huge sets. He could do it on a $300 bike or $2000 bike. Obviously over time, superior parts will hold up. But anyone can jump on any bike and shred.
I’ve never actually thought about visiting New Jersey other than to go to SC and hope you’re there so I could meet you. Would definitely be a meeting your hero moment.
My first bmx bike was a 2013 kink curb before that it was only Walmart bikes. The curb is the best beginner bike imo over time I ended up bending the wheels and snapping the frame but it’s hitense steel so if you evolve so should your bike!
I’m 1 second in, and gonna say this. As far as skill goes NO, there isn’t anything that’s gonna make you a better rider other then PERSISTENCE, PRACTICE, TOUGH and FIT BODY, and HEART. However having the best is the flip side let’s be real, cheaper quality just isn’t gonna hold up or last. Either way just have fun and grow the sport. That’s what it’s about.
I sell my bike during quarantine because we really need some money. Even though Im not riding anymore, Still love your videos guys. it always inspired me and gives me hope that one day I can own a bmx bike again.
Hey guys my son and I love watching ur BMX channel my son is getting into bmx and in need of a great BMX bike to start off right now he is riding a Walmart mongoose that's not great in BMX tricks without something blowing up for me to fix everytime he would love to have one of these beautiful bikes thanks for everything you guys do Scott and Matt
Man. It’s crazy seeing y’all now. Vs 15 yrs ago or so. I’m not religious but things happen for a reason…Fate and all that. I hope you’re happy In life cause I’m honestly stoked for you
The bike can make a slight difference on how well you can ride because the feel of more expensive bike just makes it feel better to ride. Especially if you go from.a department store bike to a bike shop bike
I can smell this video. Also it doesn't matter what you bike costs. I started riding on a Walmart schwinn tj Lavin bike back in the 90s and I rode it until I cracked the frame. It wasn't meant for actual BMX riding but I landed a bunch of cool tricks on it.
Today's beginner complete bikes feel great right out of the box but usually after a few rides you'll notice the quality difference compared to a high level bike and the cheap bike will stark making funny noises, the wheels will no longer be true etc.
What's the heaviest bike in the shop? In the early 2000s I had a Free Agent Super Fortress I swear was 35 pounds... Stable in the air, if you can get in the air
Scotty i just did a random checkover and reallized i was riding a frame with a huge crack in it the frame/bike was like 5 years old but its just like how you say never know when somethings gonna give out
What bmx bike would u recommend for someone who has experience riding flat ground but hasnt rode in a few years due to finance complications, is 5'11, 120 lbs, performs best on street and flat ground, and wants to have a sick setup?
The link switch is a good bike , also it’s good quality and you can get new things as you go also online it’s only 5.30$ for the 23 and 5.99$ for the 25
Scotty Cranmer is the Freddie Roach of BMX. Can’t still do it, but the mind is so sharp, still just makes people better. It’s truly a wonderful thing, and Freddie Roach never actually achieved what Scotty has. What ever guiding force you may believe in, Scotty will do more for BMX off a bike than on one, in the end. Would love to give that bike to a poor kid around here. I don’t need it.
Can you explain that double brake setup on that green bike? I've never seen a video on a bmx with a dual brake setup like that. Ironically I've seen the 2 brakes one lever setup but not that setup.
Hi my grandson really likes your content..he rides bmx freestyle but no longer have a bike..i want to buy one..Can you ship a complete bike to the seychelles??
depends. if a more expensive bike or bike with the parts u want make you ride more, you will become better. if you trust your bike to do wild drops and not brake, you will do more stunts with confidence. so yes it might make you better.
I love what you guys do. My 3 boys wait for me too get off work so we can watch your videos together!!! I love how much my boys learn from you and you channel. keep doing what your doing man!!!
That's so rad that your boys share your interests and enjoy them with you.
It also gives you the opportunity to ride, right? It's pretty awesome to hear our children are taking a liking to BMX, so we can enjoy their riding in the future... 😉

Matty should be a bike salesman, he’s convincing me I need a “crankflip bike”
no kidding
He’s the one that sold me my bike in 2019
LOL I was thinking WTF

cool to see your shop doing so well, I haven't had a local bmx shop to go to in probably 10 years

I recommend spending what fits in your budget. Keep in mind though, that it's generally better to spend a little more money on quality parts that will last than cheap ones that you have to replace often.
A basic bike and build up as you can afford it. That's the best way to go on a budget.
Plus just got resale value, it's better to buy a bike like Sunday or We The People
I'm riding flatland, but these days I'm really thinking of buying a complete like that just to have fun in the streets
Owns a bike store can’t remember to pack extra tubes for sessions lmao!!!!
Exactly 🤣
My favorite response to that was "I'm poor, what's your excuse"
Oh my gosh, I remember watching you back in like 2018 and just got recommended this video! Glad to see you made a recovery, love the content.
I love when I see s new video up on this channel scotty don't ever stop making bicycle videos your a g man!!
I have a 2017 kink launch, its almost the same color as the help frame but mine is more of a sunburnt orange
Thank you for being a Blessing to others. I love your videos, they give me motivation and joy. Thank you for everything and stay awesome
My first bike that got me into BMX was an Iron Horse Delinquent. The bike was extremely heavy, but I cut my teeth on it. I remember my buddy got a Fit bike, and left me ride it. It was a world of difference, and I ended up buying myself a Kink that next year. My son is still riding my Kink, and I'm teaching him some tricks now
Giving away that bike will be really fun. I can't wait to hear how happy the recipient is to get it!
love your videos been watching since 2014/16 love you matty and cramner fam your a hero that kept me grinding and keep pushing past my limits you came back from a 20-/80% chance of ever walking or moving brings a tear to me to see you bounce back watched your story your strength and the way you are able to ride your bike keep up with fans and still shoot content big respect to matty since you destroyed him in a game of bike. loe you matty both sogood
My friend gifted me the Nathan Williams Kink frame red color way. Definitely recommend that bike it’s so amazing!!
My first bike was a Kink Gap. Loved it. Rode it till it fell apart. Realistically you shouldnt spend more than 300 on your first bmx.
a noooice explanation of tire setups, like size of the tire what they suited or best for and pressures for the types of obstacles i think tires is the most under rates part of the bike which is the main part the separates the riding from the ground
My first BMX was a haro Revo it had one piece crack within two rides I'd bent it. But I loved it.
I’m still riding my 2017 fit Dugan with primo parts I can say she’s still a beast💪🏾💯🔥🔥🔥
Dude so freakin cool Scott! I'd kill for that bike. 32 yr old Out of shape truck driver that's been wanting to get back into bmx, unfortunately bankruptcy got my finances in the bucket. Always wanted a kin frame since I had a dk six pack lol
Matty is in every single video. Its basically the cranmers youtube channel. And its great.
Sounds tight ! Alot better then my first stunt machine. Legendary Huffy
Is it possible to do a wall-ride 180 spinning in the other direction?
Back in the 90s I bought ever piece separate from Albes. Don't think they even make any of that stuff now. S+M Dirt bike, ELF blast bars, Profile 3pc crank, Peregrine SP48s, oyddesy bear trap pedals and red Primo V Monster tires. It was like $1500 for all that, plus the seat and grips etc. Ah the good ole days
Shoutout to Dak! I was thinking the same thing when Scotty said it.
From my experience with action sports, cheaper gear makes you work harder to do tricks. Which is a good thing, because once you get good gear that makes tricks easier to do you'll be a much better rider
thats realy showing u dont need sum expensive bike to be good
Just one that fits your height to the centimeter
Love that shop. I was first there in 1986. :) and CJBMX ❤❤❤
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: no, it’s about ur skillset but having a nice custom bike will greatly help with ur particular style of riding.
The more I'm leaning into BMX - the real differentiator in bikes is chromoly vs. High Tensile, double wall wheels and then axle bearings?
I remember having the most basic Haro Backtrail and beating the piss out of it. The guy that used to always be on the trails would take any bike and hit the huge sets. He could do it on a $300 bike or $2000 bike. Obviously over time, superior parts will hold up. But anyone can jump on any bike and shred.
great video scotty!!
Love you guy's, so inspiring for my small custom fabrication business
i still have an eastern ramrodder from like 2011 and it still works great. the baby blue model.
My son rides a garage sale bmx bike he would love that bike thanks for the awesome content brothers !!! 😉
The BMX coach from another planet. Coach Scotty Cranmer.
Thanks guys!
Are you in san diego?
It’s true. I bought a helmet and a shirt. Asked them to sign the shirt and Scotty, Matty and BK signed it.
Not sure if you meant to dm on here or Instagram but I tried dm on Instagram and can't dm on here for some reason
Man. It’s crazy seeing y’all now. Vs 15 yrs ago or so. I’m not religious but things happen for a reason…Fate and all that. I hope you’re happy In life cause I’m honestly stoked for you
I raced there back in the 80s. Bicycle World anyone?!!
Genuine good dude. Scotty is a awesome guy!
The bike can make a slight difference on how well you can ride because the feel of more expensive bike just makes it feel better to ride. Especially if you go from.a department store bike to a bike shop bike
🔥🔥🔥🔥 I have a 2021 Stranger Spitfire complete ❤️❤️❤️
I'd get that $899 Root beer Kink with Cenema parts - Help bike! Tight people.
I can smell this video. Also it doesn't matter what you bike costs. I started riding on a Walmart schwinn tj Lavin bike back in the 90s and I rode it until I cracked the frame. It wasn't meant for actual BMX riding but I landed a bunch of cool tricks on it.
no Fit bikes at the shop?
I was hoping we’d see some more tricks done on both bikes for comparison
Today's beginner complete bikes feel great right out of the box but usually after a few rides you'll notice the quality difference compared to a high level bike and the cheap bike will stark making funny noises, the wheels will no longer be true etc.
Cheap bike challenge, take one off the shelf and see how well it last. Would be awesome to see
we had the same first mongoose BMX bikes! Mine had the red and blue logos
Great video!! Thx Scott and Matty
What's the heaviest bike in the shop? In the early 2000s I had a Free Agent Super Fortress I swear was 35 pounds... Stable in the air, if you can get in the air
cool video as always
Scotty i just did a random checkover and reallized i was riding a frame with a huge crack in it the frame/bike was like 5 years old but its just like how you say never know when somethings gonna give out
Do the 2023 kink curbs feel as smooth as this one does?
Would be cool to see old bikes price for them and what there worth know days Scotty
I’ve been wanting to start BMX for ever do you guys ship complete bikes ?
What bmx bike would u recommend for someone who has experience riding flat ground but hasnt rode in a few years due to finance complications, is 5'11, 120 lbs, performs best on street and flat ground, and wants to have a sick setup?
Are you and matty coming back over for the battle of hastings?
