    Back in the days, we had to show 15 minutes ON DUTY if whatever we were doing took 7 minutes or more. Now that we got E-logs, I use that same criteria. My fueling, Pre trips, and everything in between, I log it at around 7-9 minutes just to save those few minutes. I don't understand why most drivers feel the need to log everything at 15 minutes on ON DUTY, you're wasting precious time. Dozens of DOT Inspections and never ever been questioned about it. Work smarter, not harder. Great video man!

    I totally agree with a lot of what you're saying here. Sometimes, it happens quicker, and I deal with that on a case-by-case basis, but, quite often, you're gonna be sitting at a shipper or a receiver for at least two hours. But on the average case I'll show 15 minutes. Checking in and I'll show 15 minutes before I leave taking care of paperwork business and, like you say, sit around long enough to knock at least a couple of hours off your sleeper time. Basically, it's all about using your head and, like you say, maximizing your on duty time. And if you split your sleeper time just right, you never have to show a thirty minute break anymore.

    Also. New HOS update as of Sept 29 2020. 30min of on duty not driving time counts as your 30 min break and will reset your 8hr until break clock. There is no need to stop for 30min off duty anymore when you can knock that 30 out at shipper/Receiver. Even if you are actually working. Dot don’t know if it took 40 minutes to load or if it took 10 and you sat waiting for 30 that you just left on duty logged.

    • @LoadMizer
      @LoadMizer  3 года назад +1

      @@happypappy6371 they could catch you cheating paper logs if they looked deep enough. If it were about stopping accidents they wouldn’t allow trucks without an ecm on the road. If you have a truck built before 2000 then you’re exempt from eld and can run paper logs. It’s all just regulation in the big picture. Nobody can gauge how tired I am except me. I’ve put in a full 14 hour shift before and still couldn’t sleep for 6 more hours and also I’ve woken up and been ready to go back to sleep 30 minutes into my day. It’s a decent rule of thumb but it’s not practical across the board to be a one size fits all “rest” break. It’s how it is though and this is just what we deal with.

    • @happypappy6371
      @happypappy6371 3 года назад +1

      @@LoadMizer I understand that and agree. The 30 minute break was just a time waste. You didn't rest. You sat for 30 minutes watching the clock. The 14 hour clock should be allowed to stop. That just pushes everyone to keep going, instead of taking a break or even stopping to eat. But the loose leaf log or running 3 logs as he mentioned, was with those that were driving illegal trying to push the clock and in the old days, using drugs to keep going. One of the main problems with many of the new rules is they are made by someone sitting behind a desk, that has never been in a truck. They have no idea what we do on the road.

    I'm not certain what ELD you use but mine doesn't work that way. Once I start my 14 hour day the clock keeps running, if I'm ON-Duty, Driving, Personal Use or On Break. If I go Off Duty, the available hours still count down until they reset after 10 hours of Off Duty time. If I go back On Duty before the 10 hour reset I can only drive the unused portion of my original duty time or drive time which ever is less.

I’m sure I would have enough clearance between the bed and the trailer. Just want to know for the long run is this safe and should I got back stock?

    • @LoadMizer
      @LoadMizer  3 года назад +1

      Definitely go back stock. You’re going to crush your suspension, the stress on these trucks is insane pulling heavyweight on these beat up roads. Your tires are going to be an issue too. Not only are they going to cost you more when you have a blowout (availability is an issue too) but you’re increasing you gear ratio by having larger tires which is going to sink your fuel mileage big time. You’ll save yourself a lot of headache by going back to stock specs.

    V.I. are a constant. If you smell coolant driving down the road do you forget it because it's not during your inspection time.
    Your pre trip and post trip
    Can be flagged. If the DOT says
    Different, ask him if you have his permission to lie on your log. If you do your vehicle inspection in the middle of the day log it as such. Dont lie and falsify your log. I always log my VIs when I fuel. Because that's when I do them. And remember your always doing an inspection on your truck especially as driving down the road, when you look out your mirror and you see a tire bulging more on one axle than another axle. You check it correct. Well that was because of a visually inspection of your mirrors log it as such. If it takes less than 7 min. You dont need to log time but it still needs flagged. Oh well once again good topic. Cooltruckin out

    Another top notch video, Load Mizer. Maybe more accurate to say- “How not to cheat yourself on your logs, legally”, but your title will actually be searched by people I’m sure, mine would not and that’s why you make videos and I don’t. I appreciate the education and knowledge that you share with your viewers, I don’t have time for anything else when I get time to watch YT. It’s kind of the point of this video, time is money and I am trying to absorb knowledge about this industry, I have been in transportation 20 years, but not this side ever, It’s like with you and hauling livestock from your “shooting the bull” live video, if/when I do get into a niche in the hotshot industry, I want to be the best at it, prepared, and conquer it because I will hate it if I don’t and there is so much information on here, some much better then others, there is time to learn. And what a monumental waste of money that would be to just jump in uninformed and underprepared. I am seeing the difference between the fictional characters and the non fictional players lately on here, thanks for teaching and being a leader in your industry, I don’t comment much, but I do follow along with some of y’all and this is one of my favorite channels and I think you keep good company with some others on here that I have heard you mention, whom I also subscribe to. I can only provide the information, I can’t make people listen lol.

This isn’t small time stuff, people can get hurt or hurt others, loose their family and savings, cause insurance rates to rise, cause new regulations, etc... that many people, 10’s of thousands of viewers, some with an ability to get out here, can do actual damage and some of us were here first, it’s not jealously, it’s protecting what you have already invested in with our time and energy, and really the sacrifices that we all have to make, either the ones that are on the road and for those who are at home while we’re on the road if that applies, our families. Territorial integrity. Keep it up man, your doing a great job and your videos are great.

      I agree 100%. I’ve seen a lot in this industry change over the years and much of it is due to reign in the low driver quality standards that have been out it place by massive companies that churn drivers through schools like mills to fill seats. Government grants and SBA loans making it way to easy to put people behind the seat of a rolling liability with nothing than a fairy tail and misinformation to guide them.
