What an insane weekend this was and it's just the first episode! For those of you who don't want to watch the FULL story of everything that's happened, once the full series is posted we'll have a wrap up on Out of Spec Reviews. Before we post the rest, let us know your predictions! Who do you think won the race?
Rooting for the Taycan, but looks like the Model X will take it?
I think it's either drew or you kyle, just because "single digits" ^^ ( and no preconditionning on ioniq 5 ). So i say drew in the model 3
Definetely not the Model X. Who's waiting with stopping to charge until the Tesla says it's ended will never win such an ev-race. :)
Still can’t tell, but that’s part of the E fun… anything can happen!
Who would have guessed that the Model X would be such a strong contender out of this group?
Imagine if a senior citizen has to figure out electrify America charging given kyles experience at his first charger. These type of issues need to be resolved quickly
This is another reason why I love tesla.
Your dreaming if you think those problems are going to be fixed soon....it's a corporation and they tend not to care what the public wants
@@LarryRichelli EA isn't really a corporation in the standard sense (that would be better). It's a mechanism for spending dieselgate settlement money, after that money's gone EA's reason to exist will evaporate.
As a senior citizen, I say we can do anything. We survived without technology and are doing great with the new technology. I know several of us senior citizens that are doing fine with EVs.
They would just go to any of the other chargers that were there. The bigger problem is what happens if none of the others were available. The problem is maintenance and scaling as the number of EV’s sold in the last year with bigger battery packs has increased and many of them get free charging with EA.
The look on Allysa's face when Kyle explains driving a Taycan....
Great video!! I cannot wait for the second part :), Taycan charge speed is really impressive.. the model 3 is behind but it’s true that SCs are not v3… what will be the result if the model 3 would have used Electrify America?
Overexplaining was the most polite way to say that.
I felt bad for the girl in the Taycan, seemed like she was getting very irritated which I don’t blame her…. 😂
@@ThatColtGuy I secretly think she's going to strangle Kyle one day, hide the body, and take over the channel. "NOW LET'S HAVE FUN" And then takes the GMC Hummer EV mudding while morbidly laughing about "HOW DO YOU LIKE THIS, MAGNA????"
Mansplaining, but very kindly. 😉😁
Very few people will appreciate how much work it must have been to edit all of this together. Road trip videos are already challenging to put together, but having so many different video sources and crossing time zones is whole different level of challenging.
I’m glad you made this to counter MKBHD’s fairly poorly done comparison of Tesla and CCS charging infrastructure and to help show people that you don’t need a Tesla to road trip an EV.
Yeah, I agree.... Gotta be a lot of work to do all this video editing and stitching! Bravo to the gang.
Haha thank you Brandon, it was….. a task for sure. Hope you guys are well!
@@theoosalyssa1158 I can imagine even just getting all the clips was quite the task
@@theoosalyssa1158 Great editing!!! We had so much fun watching! - Patrick
The point is that it is not simple to road trip with CCS cars. No question, it is possible to road trip, however Tesla road tripping is a lot simpler and requires way less education/prior research.
This is the best video yet, Kyle. This is actually better than cannonball in my opintion. Great work!!
You really gotta get out more.
No it is exciting especially if you’re on the fence on which one of these cars to buy
i kinda agree. Imagine this with 10 cars. 2 drivers each. 1000 miles EV race with same rules
@@cjjenson8212 says the person that barely goes out too
Agreed, cannon ball is interesting but not many will take that risk. I like the strategy, technical comparison, and real world testing
"Stop sign is just a suggestion" I am sold
Hey, that was me in the orange Mach-E at 1:24:18. It was great to get to say hi to you guys and it looked like you were having a great trip. Hope all went well for you in part 2 :) I had a great trip with none of the issues you guys had. Someone in a Rivian did tip me off to the broken station in Glenwood as they were leaving so I avoided that.
Cool.. are you from Washington? From my neck of the woods?
Great to meet you! Awsome car!
We wanted to say Hi and talk but we were distracted a bit. It was awesome to pull in and see that beautiful Cyber Orange!
I'm a transplant, but lived in Washington about 5 years now
@@MachE_VLOG Yeah I could tell you had a sense of urgency and I mostly tried to stay out of your way
Great video and a historical record of the early days when EVs were just beginning to becoming more popular and diverse.
In modern times yes, evs existed way back in the early 1800s even. And had nearly equal market share with combustion cars until the 1920s.
Early? Hahah.
Welcome to the party, pal, I've been driving EVs for decades
Love all the nerd information you pack into your videos. These long road trips aren't easy to film and edit, props to you! Looking forward to part 2.
I've been taking Tesla roadtrips since 2015, but I've learned so much more about my own car's efficiency by watching you guys. Great job, can't wait to see who makes it across the finish line first!
I think that Kyle’s (wife/girlfriend) is a very patient lady. She just might have more patience than a Hospital.
That was the clearest example of the massive difference of CCS charging and Tesla charging I have an ever seen.
Made a big mistake watching Part 1 when Part 2 was not released! Can't stand the suspense.
Same!
Days of suffering over here, don’t even know why.
This was way too entertaining for no reason lol and I’ve watched out of spec for years
thx for the heads up
whole thing sounds like a 5-10 min vid they nuts to do couple hours lol
The Kyle/Alyssa combo is really funny to watch, and I think this is the first video where both of their personalities really came out.
His "inner control freak" is going to get him in trouble one day..... (Imo)
Alyssa doesn’t really seem to like him.
It was abundantly clear to everyone except Kyle that she'd had it with his mansplaining from the get-go.
This is thrilling to watch. So far validates why I got the Model Y LR. I knew those EA charging stations were janky. It’s fun to strategize charging stops. I use both Tesla maps and ABRP for the 1000 mile trips to optimize time. The average info between the two apps usually is what actually happens. I’ll guess Model X will win. Awaiting episode 2….
Big battery.
Tesla efficiency.
Just need to be told by the expert to not set the supercharger on navigation until 20 minutes away.
@@rogerstarkey5390 Why is the software not optimized for this?
@@abraxastulammo9940 my Tesla doesn’t precondition the battery until I’m about 20 minutes from the supercharger anyway. The “Taycan”
Benefits from waiting until 20 minutes from the EA fast DC chargers since it doesn’t handle it optimally on it’s own.
Whaaat? You didn’t want to charge at a bunch of Walmarts? ;)
This is much more entertaining than I thought it would be
I know, right? I don’t even have an EV. Yet 😉🤩
Best video yet, and so well edited. Awesome work. It's also almost an advertisement for Tesla SC infrastructure.
On long distance road trips, there is a thing called bladder range. This is an exciting race!
seriously. when i got my tesla i had to ride the train almost 3.5 hours away because that was the closest delivery center. on my way back the car programmed in a charging stop, which as we got going i realized i didnt actually need i would have still made it to my destination with like 15% left. but just because i never used their superchargers i figured it would be cool.
when i was about 50 miles away from the super charger i realized the range didnt matter all that much because now i had to fucking pee. which means i needed to stop more often than the car did. i held it till i got to the supercharger. plugged it in and almost ran into the store it was parked next to to use the bathroom. im sure i looked absolutely ridiculous to the other teslas sitting there.
We just did 6000km with our Mach-e and had no issues with EA.
My wife doesn’t watch RUclips videos on EVs. I even had the look when I started watching this one. She watched it the entire time and now asking me when we’ll be watching the next episode. We can’t wait for the next episode to be online.
Hey fellow Mach-E-er! That's awesome! Where did you road trip to?
@@Livshaka Montreal CAN to Florida
@@francoismorin5909 holy moly that's a sweet trip! ❤ Did you do it in 2 days?
@@Livshaka No because I had to stop for other things on my way down and up. But it’s doable in two good days
@@francoismorin5909 nice! If we did it, I'm sure we'd stop too. Such a cool route
All your content is great but this one takes the cake!!
I like how the Model X's driver looks like the James Bond villain of the crew and also happens to own the most extravagant, hassle-free and best performer vehicle of the batch
This was such an exciting video!! Loved the way you stitched it all together… I feel like I’m sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happens next!
This video reminds me just how much easier Tesla charging is. I own both Tesla and non-Tesla EV, so I tried road tripping using EA network in the past, but have been using Tesla for all road trips after my first trip on EA network. Looks like EA is a bit better now, but still sucks compared with supercharger network.
They have just done some research in the UK - range for an EV is not a factor now for people buying an BEV but finding and working a changer is
And it’s not just the density of their chargers, the navigation system on EV is also really important and often overlooked by traditional automakers. Being able to just type in any destination and get routed through superchargers is so much easier than having to plan your route beforehand and worry about whether the chargers will be broken/occupied
@@azureactivedirectory well said Adam
Used to own a non-Tesla (Kia). Never again. Super happy with my Model 3 now and never going back to anything non-Tesla.
@@minso8164 I am eager to see how good the Ioniq 6 will be.
Showing the difference in charging systems makes me even more grateful to own a Tesla - just plug in and it works. No weird app communication shenanigans!
Same with Ford plug n charge I guess.
Awesome video! Keep up the great work! Looks like a fun group of people!
Some killer content here Kyle! Thanks man!!
This was such a fun and exciting video, there should be more of these with different cars! I can’t wait for part 2!
Loved it!!! One of the best concepts of everyday tripping!
What a cool trip, would have loved to take part…. thanks for sharing!
Really shows how convenient it is to be a Tesla owner on road trips currently
We paid for this. Other EVs are absolutely inferior.
This was a lot of fun to watch. Definitely can't wait for part 2
Love this! Thanks for doing this. It’s like a movie!
It is like a movie... now we need the second part of the movie...
I love this! Keep up the good work and y’all are doing great job with the long form reviews and trips! 🤘 Can’t wait for the Hummer/F-150/Rivian road trip soon!
👍🤩😎
Patrick the best typical ford dad trying his best . Love it !!😂
Great video, super interesting with the variety of EV’s. Looks like great fun. Can’t wait for pt 2 :). Keep it coming Kyle and team 👍
So much fun! Can’t wait to see the stats for all these cars. Of course, the one quirky link in the chain is the human factor. You can’t predict that, it’s always in flux, and that huge question mark is what makes this really interesting. Looking forward to chapter 2!
Would have been interesting if they had used each cars version of autopilot to drive them to their destination, then see which car is quicker. Then the only human element is bio breaks and how well the charging infrastructure works.
Editing this with everyones diff clips mustve been fun. good work
Can you please make a 15 minute version of these two videos combining just saw the charging stops. Or a chart at the very end would be great
Very entertaining video and educational. Can’t wait for part 2!
What an awesome video! Would love more like this in the future! ⚡️
LUCID would be a great vehicle for this test. They have a big battery with great efficiency too.
2 bad they couldn’t get one. It would have been amazing to see.
No it wouldn't be. Because that car would win by hours. It can do that trip on 2 short stops, or 1 long one if you're feeling adventurous
Lucid is something else. That is in the group with Mercedes Benz EQS and Tesla Model S long range. Taican would benefit being driven on autobahn in Germany and charged really fast too.
Another category. Nobody can beat a 500-mile range car today.
Learning a lot about how charging speeds are not always what the manufacturer says they are - especially in cold weather. Good to know.
Fantastic video highlighting the differences between cars n network's. Really enjoying this video... can't wait to see how it ends...
Kyle have really enjoyed your channel! The intro slide and chime on today's video compelled me to hit the subscribe button haha
Alyssa, if Kyle wasn’t using so much battery power leaning on the horn you’d have power for comfortable climate control! 😂😂. Keep him inline.👍😂
Congratulations to all and each participating in this fantastic awesome entertaining informative useful video!
Thanks! We had so much fun and everyone was great to travel with
I think you guys have way too much fun with your tests. hahaha Love it!
Thanks for another great video. Took my first road trip in the 2021 Taycan last week. Plug and charge - zero percent success. The only way to charge is - use the app, find the charger, start charging, then plug in. Works every time. Any other sequence- no go.
Do you have to activate the plug n charge first or is the Taycan too old?
@@abraxastulammo9940 Yes my 21 has it. You activate in by checking the box and then wait up to 6 hours apparently. I have tried turning it on and off 3 times. I saw on youtube you can't retrofit a 20 for it.
The side by side video of plugging in a Tesla vs any of the other cars is hilarious. It’s literally 2 seconds with the Tesla and 1-2 minutes fiddling on the phone before plugging in with the other cars.
Sad story: Tesla bid on a contract in Texas this year to build out a reliable general charging network, at a *FIFTH* of the cost vs the others (~$30k vs ~$150k iirc) but the officials went with the more expensive option that will probably make chargers as reliable as those seen in this video.
Boggles the mind, but oh well, politicians gotta get their kickbacks I guess.
Plus a tesla pre conditions the pack for you. Something the "competition" is still trying to work out year's later.
@@AllanSustainabilityFan you get what you vote for tx.
@@AllanSustainabilityFan This is the way they say thanks for bringing all those jobs and businesses to our state.
There have been other roadblocks to building out the Tesla chargers for everyone. It's much cheaper (and better) to retrofit Tesla chargers to work with other cars but the Federal Government is only providing grants for creating brand new stations.
Great video and superb editing to splice the different videos together so well!
First thing I noticed great job of editing multiple vlogs.
Yeah! Alyssa is a badass editor!
Awesome idea! Anxiously awaiting part 2.
Very entertaining. You know you are a Nerd. When you watch 1.5 hrs of this video. Then you are left with wanting the ending. Lol. Keep up the good work. From a fellow Nerd. 😆
And here I am reading every single comment. Nuff said
Fun video....the challenges of CCS continue, but at least they are working once you get it to communicate with the car/app properly, so it is getting better. But, Tesla still makes road trips a stress-free event nearly 100% of the time.
it's not CCS. It's how EA does it. Here in Europe, CCS is working fine
@@zeydallahoum Good point.
@@zeydallahoum Especially that Tesla is using CCS in superchargers in Europe
@@darekmistrz4364 Tesla uses the CCS connector in Europe, but they do not conform to the spec. They don't use the communication protocol and they go way over the rated 500A at 625A and soon up to 810A. Connectors don't mean much, it's the specs that count and CCS is a terrible spec for a 400V EV. As you heard Kyle say in the video, it's fine for 800V cars like the Porsche he was driving and the Ioniq 5. Of course the connector is terrible too, just watch them wrestle with it in this video compared to the Tesla connector.
@@gregb7353 If they don't conform to spec, how do they support non-Tesla vechicles?
Can't wait for the second part!!
Lets Gooo!!! This was so entertaining. Patiently waiting for part 2
This was great to see the capabilities of each car. You can easily see how Kyle’s competitiveness = louder laughing and stressed out directions to his driving partner. You guys did great work, certainly helps the decision process down the road once the infrastructure is more available.
What a great video! Enjoyed seeing other RUclipsrs and friends along on the adventure.

Hi Lori!
@@MachE_VLOG hi! This looks like so much fun. Heard you got blue cruise. What do you think about it?
@@loriallen67 We couldn't have gotten it at a better time! Literally the night before the trip! Im pretty sure Patrick responded to you about this somewhere else but ya it has been pretty awesome! What's not to love, right?!
This is a really fun video. It has sort of a Mad, Mad, Mad World vibe to it. As an EV owner for just over a year ('21 Taycan), it is fascinating to learn from the varied strategies. I am pleased to see that my EA challenges have not been the result of anything I'm doing wrong. I hope that EA is watching, there are new EVs in the pipeline that will be competing for the few 350kW chargers.
Great editing them all togather! And just a very usefull series!
This is so cool great group & Challenge love your videos continue doing what you’re doing !!! 🙂👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
This looks soooo much fun! I wish I had my Model Y already and a RUclips channel to do things like this😅
Really fun video but I just keep waiting for Alyssa to hit Kyle. Imagine getting yelled at for doing 29 mph instead of 30
Wow, lots of very specific info! Thanks for the exciting update
Wow! Great video with this road trip race... though I wish you had Ioniq 5 RWD for its longer EPA range for this race... Great stitching of everyone's video and their info along the way! It'd be fun to do this race with my Kia Niro EV, though I'd definitely lose by a long way due to its super slow charging...
I felt like I was part of this trip, we need part 2 asap!!!
I own a 2018 Model 3 LR RWD and still think that is the best road tripping car so far. I can get 250kW of charging and super efficiency on the highway.
If it had heat pump, it would be the ultimate one
The fact that Tesla doesn't sell this car along with a Long Range RWD Model Y is such a shame. The Model 3 RWD is 4.7s 0-60 and you can easily get 225w/mile @85mph. No idea why they discontinued it and I hope they bring them back. The Model Y specifically really needs this trim level to get better range.
@@gregb7353 100% agree. A LR RWD Model Y would be great to help boost the highway range a little.
I was expecting that I skip through the video for the interesting parts. But it is amazing how the whole video is super interesting. I couldn't skip a bit.
perfect video for getting over boring quarantining! very nice vid
This is going to be your most viewed video by far. I see this hitting 1M views easy. Need more content like this with other EV RUclipsrs
this episode was so much fun, can't to see part 2! :)
I was hoping for a video like this ever since I bought a Tesla M3. Surprise to see your starting point is FOCO and even recognize the parking lot you were in. Shout to all EV owners in CO especially going on road trips to Vegas!!!
Loving it! Have you considered having a number on one of the corners of the edit to help us the viewer know which o are is in which place ? Would help while trying to keep up! Either way great video!
Shoutout to Patrick and Liv for representing the Mach-E gang!
Woop Woop! 💙💙💙⚡
Thanks!!! We're not the "racing" type but this was so much fun. Thanks to Kyle for inviting us! - Patrick
I've used Tesla's superchargers at least 200 times and never had a problem once. The worst I've had was sharing A/B stalls since the station was V2.
I live vicariously through these videos. With my 24kwh leaf I can drive for maybe 45 miles on the highway before my battery dies. Poor thing barely survives my commute.
What a great cast of characters playing with a great groups of cars with their eyes on the prize.
Would love to see this test again with an EQS, Lucid Air, updated model S long range, Rivian, and Hummer EV.
To Drew and Alice, ALL THE BEST!
This was a fantastic "race". Loved it, Let's keep doing this. This really reflects the state and health of the infrastructure. It turns out to be luck of the draw on if you can get a full speed charge and how you plan the stops. I would also like to see if the efficiency of these trips improves as more efficient cars come available. This was great fun!
Just subbed. Cant wait for part 2
Wish we lived in the area and could of joined this race with our ID.4! How much fun it would of been!! Yeah!!
I wish they had an ID.4 in the race. My understanding is it should beat the Mach-E but I would have loved to find out.
The ID.4 charges so slow I think it would be an embarrassing last place
@@markrichards9792 Brand new ID.4 charge 56 kWh in 28 min now.
Love this content keep it up! As great as the tacan speed is, that electrify America payment and charging system looks like a joke. Imagine someone who’s unfamiliar with EVs trying to simply charge. They would be trading the car in after that debacle. Really shows how far superior and advanced the Tesla network is. It simply just works and I love mine. Zero supercharging hassles in the last 5 years
Awesome video. Would be interesting to see it run again but everyone driving like ‘normal’ people, without all the attempts to optimise range, and use the built in route planners etc to give a result more akin to what the general public would face and see if the result differs. Can’t wait for part 2! 😆
I enjoyed watching this video as much as you guys enjoyed filming it...
It’s great to see the whole crew here taking on the challenge. Been waiting for this and it does not disappoint!
Just imagine how bad this will get for CCS as more Ioniq 5s, EV6s, Mach-Es and ID 4s hit the road. I test drove the Ioniq 5 and really liked it. May get one and save the Tesla for road trips.
It wont, the Fed is throwing billions at the problem. In a couple of years the J1772 DC network will dwarf Teslas. In fact Tesla is well on its way to get rid of its particular connector. It's already done so in a few EU countries which have required it to do so.
Presumably there will be a mix: more and more cars using these chargers makes the business case for more to be built. And larger charging stations are more efficient in cost per charger. On the other hand it will mean some crowded stations on holidays.
Kyle! Finally got my wife interested in one of your videos and you end it before the finish line! Can’t wait for the conclusion!
Awesome video ! Taycan charging was hilarious 😂
You mean NOT charging? 😉
With the Model 3 still charging at 55 kW power, it should be a piece of cake for the Taycan. This is not just about the cars, but 50% about the drivers...
Where's part 2? The suspense is killing me!
When’s the next episode coming?? Need to watch it!! Very good video
Riveting episode. Need more of this!
That 2022 Model 3 Performance is a great car. I got 247 WH/mi in mine on the way to the track. I ran 11.40 @ 117+ mph for the 1/4 mile and 3.04 0-60 mph. Pretty incredible to get good efficiency and still be fast too.
Very nice, makes me wonder what a plaid model 3 performance would be like. Since the plaid uses the same 3&y motors, just modified with c.f. rotors. Ad 4680s in the structural pack and the single piece castings, track mode&track pack standard, maybe air suspension finally.
That could be a serious monster in its own right. 🤔

@@rudyyyxu probably not. 😐
I'd really like to see them make a performance 2dr coupe to combat the mustang/camaro/400z segment. Base it on the 3 chassis with the castings and structural pack. Use the plaid motors, sell a rwd 350 or so hp model for only 45k with a few options like track pack available.
Put real performance seats in it then offer an awd version with 600+hp for 55k. Wonder how many they would sell. 🤔
