Do you like the tablet in the center of the dash, and no gauge cluster in front of the steering wheel? I don't think i would like having to look to the right to see my speed and other info.
Man I love Model S road trips and when Kyle is driving it's just pure perfection. Only thing that comes close are the top speed Taycan videos from Germany. Next time you're in Munich maybe there will be a small meetup?
Nice job, Kyle. I’m glad you got a road trip in the Plaid before it was wrecked. I felt sick to my stomach when I watched the video of the disaster….. you certainly kept your cool better than I would have.
Especially because it was so dumb. If it was a normal accident that would be fine. But man, track mode in a plaid on a public road with 100% to the rear wheels… that’s just stupid! Glad they’re okay though.
Just commenting after your video today about your plans for the future -- new channels, new focus on less expensive battery electric vehicles, and so on. And I just want to add that "we still like the original Out of Spec Motoring stuff, too!" I first found Out of Spec Motoring back when you were starting your Tesla road trips, and I've been hanging around, ever since. And while plenty of these have been Kyle / Kyle and Alyssa / Kyle and Alyssa and the dogs, I've truly enjoyed other folks, like Alyssa and Liv (and Alice), Kyle and Lexie, and Jordan and Emad. So, yes, we always want our Out of Spec Motoring, but it doesn't always have to be Kyle all the time. Also, if you ever want to make "The Scenic Version" of any of these -- adding in a few extra minutes that fell on the cutting room floor, I think that would be just fine. I have always enjoyed the music and the scenery. And the food. Thanks, and keep on Motoring!
Put the CCS adapter on the charger handle before plugging it into the vehicle. This ensures the locking pin actually locks the adapter to the handle. Arc flash is the hazard here.
Hmm there shouldn't be any arcs while connection is not fully made. At first it's only communication thorough the data lines and after that come the energy. Am I wrong?
@@skorpion1298 You are correct. The hazard is that, if the adapter is not locked properly, the connecter could come loose while charging. This is the moment an arc could occur.
Really enjoyed this trip with the plaid, it’s such a beast. Road tripping with other ev’s somehow seems primitive and sketchy, but tesla just does it right. Thanks for sharing Kyle
I watch these videos full on without any fast forwarding. Gives me so much satisfaction. Only minor complain is, pls make more n more videos :) Thanks so much for these videos.
😂 LOVED watching you blast past that weaving FedEx truck! I do everything I can to not stay beside those trucks. In traffic I’ll wait just behind it in the passing lane until the car in front of me gets a car length ahead of the truck, then I floor it.
One thing for sure, when you are use to charging on V3 on the east coast, and then encounter some of the earlier V2 stations, it can really drag on for what seems like forever. Nice to have the charging, for sure. Just needs to be upgraded.
Agreed. Got soo used to charging on V3’s. Then went from philly to Phoenix and my god could you tell the difference between a V3 and a V2. Not to mention when the V2 was busy.
Kyle! You’re one of the main reasons I bought my model 3. I just saw myself while you were stopped in Baker. Small world, sucks I didn’t notice you. 🙆🏽♂️
So funny Kyle, I totally nerd out like this on charging optimization when I road trip. I usually run ABRP at home to plan my trips then run in parallel while on the road. ABRP used to be more accurate than Tesla but recently are much closer.
you mean tesla is closer to ABRP ? I havent used a supercharger in over 2 years now, but back then ABRP was just pure gold, and on the percent right with how much i was arriving :)
Your cold rag trick has been a must have for my road trips which I learned from you back in 2020 ! I skipped going to SLO this year would have been fun to meet .
Passo Row bells is good ! I bought a tesla CCS adapter from North Korea on e bay have to figure out the Electrified America Acct stuff now.Nice to see you coming down the Questa Grade its great regeneration hill . I’am a CalPoly Grad 1981
Tom Moloughney says plug in the CCS adapter to the CCS cable first then plug the whole thing into the Tesla. I did it that way successfully but it looks like you did it the other way and it works.
From Buttonwillow, too bad you didn’t get routed directly to Santa Margarita via the 58 across the Carisa Plains. Huge solar farm out there and some fun roads. When you picked up Drew, you passed right by the apartment I lived in when I was going to Cal Poly SLO…28 years ago…it looks the same
Hey I drove from San Diego to Denver and stopped in Beaver along the way, awesome supercharger and EA Station! I took some pictures of my car in front of the mountains while I was there.
Much appreciate your charging videos as I haven’t purchased an EV yet but you’ve definitely given me confidence on handling the range issue and when I do pull the trigger it will definitely be a Tesla. Thanks much! 👍
It wasn’t a problem with the charger it was the fact you put the adapter in the car first then the cable in the adapter and that’s not how it works. You need to put the cable in the adapter first! There is a lock on the adapter that engages the cable first!
I have been averaging 237 w/mile in my 2022 MSLR with 19" wheels, but driving only in Chill mode. Very efficient relative to my previous 2015 MS85D. Obviously driving in Sport/Insane mode drops efficiency dramatically.

Re: energy graph: There's a number of unofficial, 3rd party tools that poll the Tesla API for vehicle information. There's a slim chance that the data is still available through the API and can be graphed with tools like Grafana.
There's a recommendation for a speed limit in Germany, called "Richtgeschwindigkeit" (= 130 km/h). Only on a very limited range of German freeways you could drive faster than 130 kilometers per hour. The results are multiple incidents and a large number of drivers who lost their lives on the German "Autobahn" ( = freeway) because of ignoring the recommended speed. Better not to drive faster than 65 miles per hour....
The wheels looks like they come from discount tire or Firestone. Do they give you a longer range? I have A Model Y. I’m looking at getting aftermarket wheels to separate my Tesla from other’s. Thanks
This was a particularly interesting video as we (Donnie the Dog and I) took almost the same exact path 10 days ago from Albuquerque, NM to Davis Ca, just outside Sacramento. Do you carry a spare tire and do you have videos headed to Portland Or? WE leave for Portland in 3 weeks in out model 3 P. I run 18's on the car and, not the factory 20s BTW. Thanks for theses videos and please reply when you can. Thanks, Steve
I've read research that..... changing your steering wheel grip to 20 - 4 on the clock will save your elbows should the airbag deploy...... If your arms are higher there is a strong chance that your elbows will be badly damaged. Enjoying your shows thanks for all your long hours of work.

Fun to watch this. Love SLO, an area I grew up in and around (Pismo Beach, Arroyo Grande, Avila, Morro Bay, Los Osos, etc…). That "no AC" part is the one I would take out😂
Long time viewer here but somehow I just like watching your road trip videos with Tesla only 😁
It looks so easy. Dreaming of some road trips in our Model Y LR when it comes this fall.
The best is the camera on the dash showing the road ahead. Really gives the closest feel of the experience
