Adding volume to flat hair

  • When recorded this I had no idea anyone would watch it, let alone 1.5m times (as of the editing of this caption). Thank you, for that.
    Here are a few notes about this video.
    This is fine hair but it isn’t THIN hair, it’s very dense, meaning there are a lot of hairs per square inch. His top complaint about his hair is that it doesn’t stand well without putting in some work. This video showcases the work that goes into getting it to stand up. His hair falls flat because it’s fine, sure, but also because it’s very smooth and healthy. This causes the hairs to slide along each other and slip downward easily, to where coarse or frizzy hair can have the opposite problem and become too big because the rough hairs catch on each other. The product used here doesn’t get hard or stiff, it just helps the hairs to stick to each other, which allows the hairs to support each other up for longer. Throughout the day it may fall flat again sooner or later, but on days he wants to keep it up for a very long time he adds hairspray after this process (as mentioned in the video) and on days where it’s less important this is a good way to keep it standing at the root for a few hours. I’ll try to find a model with even finer hair soon and make a more thorough video. Thanks again.

    I have questions.
    1. Are you using heat? Because there are options that you can use cold
    2. What product did you use to add volume
    3 what hair spray are you using

    • @andrewdoeshair
      @andrewdoeshair  4 года назад +19

      high heat and high power to remove moisture, high heat and low power after the hair is dry, to polish it, then cold air at the end to set the style. The product is ADH Dry, I make it, and it can be found at yadhbrand.com but any water based product with low hold and no shine will work. I don't really have A hair spray that I stick with, but lately I've really been enjoying REF's hair sprays and oils.

    This is probably just for fine hair people and people that can't seem to get volume. Cause you said to keep it really simple with product. But I have coarser thick hair that gets a bunch of volume. Whenever I don't apply certain products to my hair. My hair doesn't have that natural smooth texture with no frizz and instead seems really dry/limp towards the ends. It also like to clump off towards the ends on the sides. I start off with leave in condtioner light spray to seal in the moisture. Than apply a oil based heat protectant to get a really shiny smooth result from blowout. Rough dry til it's about 100 percent dry. Than smooth out hair with round brush. Than apply light holding molding paste. Not sure if im doing too much. Just it seems like if I don't apply those products my hair looks too dry and texture feels off.

    • @andrewdoeshair
      @andrewdoeshair  Год назад

      I can only guess without seeing your hair in person, but that routine sounds pretty spot on for some of the coarse wiry hair I get in my chair. Cheers to you for putting in the work, I’m sure your hair looks way better now than it did before you learned how to do all that!

    • @GamingwithCasss
      @GamingwithCasss Год назад

      @@andrewdoeshair thanks! Now any tips to make your hair more smooth but still wavy. Maybe it just the angle of my round brush. Also how do people with wavy hair keep their ends from looking split apart or messy. I don't think I have split ends. Might be my hair texture. But my strands look clumped up as opposed to a clean shape and coming to a point. Look up John b or chase stokes. It might that his hair is fine. But I just looks so perfect. Even in non edited pictures when his hair is messy his strands are wavy but are controlled. They aren't flipping up , having flyaways or frizz. They are super tight and elegant. Honestly it might just be that is hair is fine. Cause he looks to not blowout his hair. It's just carefree but still neat at same time. It might be my hair is too short. Maybe once my hair is long my wave will start to come out more and my hair will be easier to smooth. Any ideas

    • @andrewdoeshair
      @andrewdoeshair  4 года назад +8

      That’s usually an issue with the haircut itself, the weight needs to be redistributed. Very specific types of texturizing can also coerce that, but it’ll take a hairdresser who knows what they’re doing to get it right.

  • @farazr2
    @farazr2 5 лет назад +81

    • @andrewdoeshair
      @andrewdoeshair  5 лет назад +13

      They may work, but I don’t ever use anything like that. I like to keep it as simple as possible, something light and sticky before blow dry then something light with hold it they don’t want the style to move any more. When in doubt, visit a professional and get their take on your hair

    I don't use hair dryers. For me, I just get dressed after shower, then lie down on bed with a wet head and place a towel under my neck and hair so the bed won't get soaking wet. I have the AC on and a fan pointing at my hair. I just play games at my phone while waiting for the hair to dry naturally. I spread my hair upwards and make sure the back of the neck touches the towel.
    Once dried, you can get up and comb your hair sideways. The volume stays for hours even all day.
    It takes time but at least I get 10-15 mins nap after shower drying my hair. It also lowers my body heat after shower.

      Don't do this. Your hair is at its much fragile state when it's wet. Learned from experience. That's how you get a lot of frizz. Instead wrap your hair in a turban. Air dry for 12-15 minutes. Apply leave in condtioner. Heat protectant. Than rough dry. Than blow dry with round brush. You will get a very smooth texture without the frizz. Than apply a light holding molding paste/cream and or clay. Done. Takes me like 20 minutes every time I wash my hair.
