This is one of the best episodes ever I have seen. The beauty of jungle, waterfalls, paddy field and mountain well captured, and I can still smell the scent of jungle. What a beautiful forest route!!!!!. Really our Kerala is God's own country. Leave alone our city life. Lovely places enroute to get bamboo rice. I have not seen it. First time through your blog. The instant pottu made out of herbs by Nammi was fantastic. Goose berry preparation was so excellent, really need much patience. Mouth watering. But can't cook bamboo rice as it's not available in Andaman. Excellent blog. Keep it up.

For those who look for translation:
In the beginning, Nami brings a bunch of medicinal plants (Mukkutti = Biophytum sensitivum). She crushes the leaves in her hands to extract the sap. She places a drop of it on her forehead (believed to have many medicinal benefits) and tells her mom to take the remaining sap and use it.
Later, the mother tells the elder relative coming in the boat that she wants to collect some bamboo rice for making a kind of special dessert for Nami (she says Nami often asks for it). The man says that he bamboo rice is only available in the forest and to go with another elder person who is familiar with the inner forest.
In the forest the elder person tells her to be careful walking on the steep slopes. Later the mother asks him whether there will be wild animals and he says there will be animals at night but there is nothing to fear during the day. Later he says the rocks are getting steeper and slippery and asks her to stay there and wait for him. Later he comes back with bamboo rice and some Indian gooseberries and he says he collected all those from the tribal people who lives in the forest. They hurries back home before it is too late.
Later while eating, mother asks Nami if she likes the bamboo-rice dessert. Nami says she likes it a lot and adds that she was craving for it for a long time. Last time when someone brought the home-made bamboo-rice dessert to her class, it was all finished so fast and she could barely got to taste half a spoon of it (and now she is happy).

Very nice, when i was young, I have tasted sweet dish given to me by my Kerala tuition teacher ,I liked it so much I still remember it's taste.and the importance of bamboo seeds told me by my mother in law she used to cook bamboo rice in her early days when draught in her area.
