I have that M12 ratchet and LOVE it. Second tool I've bought after watching one of your videos. The other one was that Dewalt impact, I also have it's big brother, the brushless one.
I know these longer, more detailed videos take up a great deal of your time. I just wanted to make you aware of how much I appreciate your efforts. Videos like this are loaded with so many tips, tricks, and even a few life lessons. Thanks Brian.
Hi Brian. Have you ever seen permatex high tack. You can get it in a brush can or spray can. It's what you should use in that application instead of Right stuff
spray tack not bad but all I do on decent quality gaskets like that is smear a little grease on surface of gasket, keeps it in place and helps bed it in plus keeps surfaces cleaner for time it may come off in future . Never had one leak yet . Have had some really poor paper gaskets with some aftermarket junk when very light smear rtv seems best best though .
My child drove my Volvo 740 with the water pump and cooling fan in the trunk for 6.1 miles. After having it towed home I put it back together with the new pump and drove that car for 9 months before the head gasket gave out....I was kinda impressed.
Added hint.....don't need any further gasket sealant.....use the metal/composite gasket that comes with the new factory (Aisin) unit.....and if YOU ever need to do it again....no issue scraping off goo. Mine didn't leak using only the provided metal gasket on a clean engine mounting surface.
It’s even easier if you just get the water pump that comes with coated metal gasket like the OEM one. They never seem to leak (the gasket) and it’s faster to install and a lot easier if the pump needs to be changed again.
I had a Toyota 22R and the timing chain tensioner wore out (sounded like this one) and the chain wore a hole in the water pump housing and was leaking coolant into oil galley.
That bolt @14:30 I wasted an hour then gave up and looked for a video that shows me how to put the pully cover back on.....I watch this DAH only a right handed person can do this not a lefty like me...got my daughter whom is right handed and she had it in 2 mintues.
Another awesome video man. I think it confirms it's my water pump instead of the injectors on my CTS making the noise. Now if only you lived closer so you could fix it for me HA!
I especially liked your before and after on how it sounded. Showing the solution at the beginning doesn't always give your video the best vibe, but with an indicator of sound, which people are looking forward, was an especially smart play I think today.
Super B, When I have a tight-space water pump, I get studs w/ nuts & lock washers. It's easy to put the studs in while the pulley is off and far easier to align the holes when putting the pulley back on. Thanks, as always, for posting another great vid. How bout introducing your family sometime?
I have to mention that these engines always have alot of air coming out of the top oil fill hole do some reasearch on thesw engines i thot like u mentioned also how ever on these cars that is not piston blow by
It's his comments. And if I may...a lot of times, I really don't need these videos to help with this specific job (even as a mechanic, running into a specific job actually is unlikely), but he always has adds interest for me. And while I could get by without, he always keeps me in tip-top shape with his tips and tricks.
Wow!! My Toyota Starlet does the same noise after just 3000 miles Lucky stil under Warranty Repaired but lost my Trust in Toyota and I drove Toyota Since 1989
Hi Boss, i have 2010 yaris and may car have low idle after 3-5 mins whenever i ON AC, first 800-850 then 670-730, i changed spark plugs, cleaned injectors Throttle body, intake gasket Throttle body gasket, and mass air flow cleaned and no check engine light and every thing done
On a related note: The sliding nut on the alternator was the cause of my week plus of driving with a strange noise. (recently replaced an alternator). Could not figure it out until I got an automotive stethoscope. Best $15CAD ever spent. I did not tighten the 14mm properly (pulling the slide nut in) and it caused the alternator to vibrate and possibly ruined some bearings in the alternator. The only combo that fit the limited space was a 1/4" drive adapter and a small socket. I have ruined 2 of the 1/4" adapters and ultimately welded the socket and said ruined adapter together! Noise is gone!
I have an 2010 Honda CR-V with 110 thousand miles. I want to change the water pump and alternator before they leave me on the side of the road. How many more miles, in your expert opinion, can I push it .?
I'm getting the pump changed on my Yaris today as it's making a racket like in the video. It's done over 140k miles on the original pump. I believe it's the original alternator on there too.
I brace it with a prybar- I know that seems sketch like you're going to bend it, but I've done more than a hundred without bending a single one. From there, I just pop it off by hand. I think the prybar twist method helps break it free as you go around getting the three bolts cracked free.
so you you did this for the seals ? WATERPUMP -> PERMATEX -> GASKET -> PERMATEX -> GASKET -> ENGINE ? why two gaskets ? BTW thanks for the tip on how to align the gasket.
@@briansmobile1 is there only damage done when the waterpump eventually fails? (I.e. overheating) or is driving on a noisy pump bearing like this risking anything else? I've got a family members Yaris in the shop today getting the water pump and belts done as it sounded like this. But I want to learn how it's done so I may one day have to do it to my own ;) thanks for another great vid man.
There's a big difference between my 1.3 litre MK1 Yaris and a family member's 1.0 litre. I can almost stand in the engine bay of the 1 litre and everything is so, so, so accessible. It has the air filter on top of the engine block too, mine is to the right. Best thing is the oil filter on the 1 litre can be accessed and taken off by putting your hand straight through next to the radiator. It's basically designed for ease of use. On my 1.3 I have to get underneath the car and it's a lot easier if I remove mud guards and trim that gets in the way. I'd go for a 1.0 for my next one just because it's so easy to maintain!
my water pump doesn't sound like you're, it sound like a knock, like a finish bearing, I that it was my alternator, I changing it and the soud still remain
Very good job. Although i dont agree with the silicone on the pump. Thats gonna be a pain to remove for the next guy. Let the gasket do its job! Other than that love your videos!
Well you aren’t quite right, I had to completely change the gasket because once the aluminum one breaks even a little bit, it leaks everywhere. Silicone makes it stick to the water pump so you don’t accidentally snap it like I did or install it wrong.

Why would you be talking, when you have the engine running, and having the mic right next to it?

Thank you!
yes, thank you!
Quite possibly one of the best water pump removal videos on RUclips.
I always look for your version of the repair I need, I do a lot of repairs and prefer to just watch your videos than think for myself. THANKS!!!

Brian you are such a cool guy I'm glad that there are people like you that can help with car repair videos and also have valuable life advice too
I watch a lot car repair videos. This is how it should be done! Good job
Thank you for this video! Helped me in 2021! To diagnose my 1nz-fe echo
I’ll be doin my 302,000 mile Yaris pump soon
Thanks for the detailed demo !!!

This is how you do a How-To!
Got the aisin pump ready to go, just need to get a 10mm wrench.
Thanks bud!
(16:51) "...here's a tip for the advanced portion of the aerobics class..." LMAO good tip!
I love the commentary on your videos Brian. Some of the things you say are hit me as a "AH-HA" moment. That's a good tip on the anti freeze too.
I agree. He was a lot like me in this video. He was "bubbling" over with information, if you can pardon an overheat pun. :)
hi Brian, i really like this and your channel. Great content, pace, funnies and stimulating viewing. Well done young man. Kindest regards. Joe.
Thanks Joe!
Just spent a month repair tour on my son's 97 Cherokee. Now the other 08 Yaris needs some love.
This was a very helpful video.
Thank you very much!
Thank you Brian, your time is appreciated. It seems to be harder to stay in the moment in today's world, thank you again
I did an 08 Yaris water pump this year for a customer, easy job, but they do seam a tad failure prone.
It’s even easier if you just get the water pump that comes with coated metal gasket like the OEM one. They never seem to leak (the gasket) and it’s faster to install and a lot easier if the pump needs to be changed again.
Nicely done, thanks.
I definitely am subscribing. The bits of philosophy are appreciated too.

Whoever designed that Milwaukee too is a genius
Thanks for this, it is the way to replace the water pump.
did you use a toyota water pump the first time around, or aftermarket? And are you torqueing to spec is the electric ratchet set to a certain torque?
Good job with the vid. Let me guess the new paramotor is bigger and more powerful?
very useful- well done- best production values I've seen for this sort of subject, and all served with a dash of philosophy

What brand pump do you recommend for the Yaris?

no loctite in the pully holes ? water oump bolts ? just asking.
great info and great job brian
Thanks Gerald!
cool tools are a great motivator...just itching for something to need replaced!!
Wow man nice video!! I’m gonna do the same on my wife’s Yaris never found a good one ☝️ like this 👍👍

This video is very informative and thorough; thanks for your attention to detail!
How did u start the annyoing impossible to get to bottom bolt any tricks ? The bottom water pump bolt

Was that old bearing wobbly at all or just bearing very dry in water pump

Briansmobile1, Do you remember how many miles the old water pump had on it?
I bought the factory waterpump and it came with a metal gasket, in the box it says to not use gasket maker with there gasket? Any thoughts?
Don't need any further goop........Replaced mine with the factory metal gasket only....and all is OK.
Thank you for the video great job
Thanks great video and very informative thanks for making it and putting it on RUclips
Your like the bob Ross of automotive repair lol I mean that as a compliment
Thanks Tyrone! I love Bob Ross!
Interesting that you used fpig instead of the metal gasket toyota provides

How did you get the pulley off? Prybar?
Also I like to put anti-seeze on the pulley teeth so it doesn't rust onto the pump...

this helped me thank you

I can’t break loose those three pulley bolts with a regular 10mm wrench.
Put a pipe, or a closed end wrench/spanner on the open end of the 10mm for more leverage. Make sure you are turning the correct direction.
did u buy water pump on ebay or parts store?
Parts store
Excellent
Thank you!
Thanks guy
Yaris!
Can you still drive it sounding like this? ?
Generally no. Not without sustaining further damage to other parts of the engine.

Wiggle test sounds like the Cobra test cousin lol. I wiggle shit till I find the problem lol
Bob Ross was the man!
You should turn the car back on.to confirm that there is no noise
someone really likes ice cream.
Lol the cobra lmao!!!
